5061  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Alt coins are in red again ?? on: January 31, 2018, 08:43:32 AM
There is the news of the Tether/Bitfinex subpoena... although bizarrely Tether seems to be largely unaffected.

There have been a few big drops in the last couple of weeks, for various reasons. However the market is showing (and has been showing) a lot of resilience around the $500 billion mark, so hopefully we won't drop below that.
5062  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Difference between putting money in and taking money out? on: January 30, 2018, 12:45:41 PM
I have a hypothetical question, triggered by the thread quoted below.

Would your answer to the question 'If you had $1 million, how much would you put into crypto?' be the same as your answer to the question 'If you had made $1 million from crypto, how much would you keep in crypto rather than cashing out?'. For simplicity disregarding any existing crypto holdings, and any existing 'real world' bank balances and assets. We are assuming that this $1 million is everything that you have. Also disregarding taxes and other complications.

If your answers are different, then why are they different? Logically they should be the same (shouldn't they?).
For me, I think the amount I would put in (the first question) is less than the amount I would keep in (the second question). I think I know why, but would like to hear other people's thoughts. Smiley

Where and how would you invest 1m dollars? What coins will you buy? Or will Huh you just put them in Bank? Huh Wink

Where and how would you invest 1m dollars? What coins will you buy? Or will Huh you just put them in Bank? Huh Wink

This is much more interesting than the 'I have $x to invest in crypto - which coins?' questions, as it asks how much we would be willing to gamble on crypto.
For me, I'd pay off existing debts (mortgage etc), then invest probably $500k in crypto and use the rest for other less speculative investments, probably property.

I have a related question of my own, but I don't want to hijack the thread so I might start my own thread Smiley
5064  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum or Bitcoin? on: January 30, 2018, 09:42:35 AM
which one is preferable for you guys?

1. Ethereum
2. Bitcoin

Its hard to invest in Bitcoin. So what's the future of ethereum?

Why not both? It is always a good idea to keep some bitcoin. For one thing, it is convenient for trading to have some in reserve. Also if you hold bitcoin this gives you an incentive to keep up with bitcoin news, which obviously can affect the whole market. It is also less volatile than most coins.
Ethereum is great as well, smart contracts are going to be very important in the future.

Both are likely to grow over the next few years, so keep both (plus other alts as you see fit).
5065  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Financial freedom, is it possible in 1-2 years? on: January 29, 2018, 10:46:50 AM
For trading, it is good to set a clear exit point, and stick to it. Greed often means you will not sell if a coin is rising, and not buy if it is falling - you think it could still rise/fall further. This is how you miss an exit point.
Always know why a coin is moving in a certain way. This will also help you to plan your exit point from the trade. The worst thing you can do is to jump onto a coin because of FOMO, with no idea why its price is moving. This is how you can be left a bagholder and it is how you can fall victim to pump and dump groups.

The best two things I think you can do are firstly, learn from your mistakes, and secondly keep yourself informed as to why prices are moving in a certain way. If you can master these two, then all that you really need after this is a bit of experience.
Good luck out there!
5066  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Should I Buy or Sell now? on: January 26, 2018, 12:34:54 PM
Dear members
I have some coins: BTC, LTC, NEO, DBC. I am now wondering with this dumping market.
What should I do now? hold, buy more or sell?
Pls give me an advice  : Shocked Shocked Shocked

Definitely do not sell now.
Coins may be falling, but they keep bouncing back above the level set last week with the South Korea FUD. There is a strong support level now, and I think we are just waiting for the next bull market.
If you were going to sell, the time has long gone for that - now is time for those who sold to buy back in.
As for me, I held my coins, and I am certainly not thinking of selling at the moment.
5067  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Hodl bitcoin or split it in many altcoins ??? on: January 26, 2018, 12:23:25 PM
Hello there right now I am holding exactly 1 bitcoin....what should i do with that... should I hold only in bitcoin or should I split some of it into other coins... if yes then which ones and how much

I would say split it - proportions and which coins are up to you. Listen to advice, but then research everything yourself to make an informed decision.
Bitcoin offers high probability of increasing, with low risk. For higher returns, go for lower cap coins - but risk increases here too.
Personally I would put some into good smart contract coins ETH, NEM/XEM, NEO, maybe Cardano (although I think Cardano is overpriced at the moment).
Then put a smaller amount into more risky stuff, take your pick from amongst the top 100 or so.
I would say to avoid very low cap coins as these are often pump and dump.
5068  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: effect of unsold coins of ICO in burn on: January 25, 2018, 01:39:32 PM
I think in general burning is good, but there can be unintended effects.
Say a coin has 20% to devs and 80% is to be sold at ICO.
If only 30% of that 80% is sold and the rest burnt, then we have 20% to devs, 30% sold at ICO, 50% burnt.
After the burning takes place, this means that the tokens are in effect distributed 40% to devs, 60% sold.
So in this case burning has a strange effect.
5069  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: So which blockchain is the best? on: January 25, 2018, 10:07:56 AM
There's Bitcoin classic, Solidcoin, IXcoin, Namecoin, any coin you can think of. Which one is the most likely to gain widespread acceptance and which has the best distribution system and difficulty scaling?

I don't think you can compare them when they have different purposes. The nature of each blockchain has a lot to do with the nature of each coin. You can only really compare those that are direct competitors with one another.
5070  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What coins do you like besides Ethereum? on: January 25, 2018, 09:52:37 AM
I will choose a coin after a while. The coin is too much now. Which coin do you like? Please tell me some reasons. I will thank you very much.

The trade-off is between risk and reward. Higher cap coins are in general more likely to have steady growth, and lower cap is where you tend to find the x100 coins but also coins that fail.

So depending on your risk level, I would say NEO or Cardano as good high cap options, Walton or 0x as medium, and Aragon as lower cap.
I could give reasons why, but this can be counterproductive - you always need to rely on your own research.
5071  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: SOUTH KOREA BACK IN THE GAME? 24.2% isn't too bad on: January 24, 2018, 11:17:22 AM
Am i reading this correctly and why not posted here before?

Or not as clear as it seems?

https://cointelegraph.com/news/s-korea-to-tax-crypto-exchanges-242-percent-in-line-with-existing-tax-policy

i guess now anon accounts are banned the individual will be taxed as income or cgt

looks like they are back in the game anyway

china next?

better than a blanket ban right ... or not?

Is this not a good thing i see many see it as a negative announcement?

It's about what I expected, I think it is good news - news about countries 'banning' crypto is generally just an indication that they want it regulated, they are scare stories that cause prices to plummet. I think that regulation is inevitable and a lot of countries will follow South Korea's lead. What will happen with privacy coins and how this might work on a global level is anyone's guess.
5072  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Where to sell ETH? on: January 24, 2018, 10:49:20 AM
Coinbase seems not a good choice because lots people complained it's EXPENSIVE and not unstable. any other good choice? thank you.

It depends really. Coinbase does charge a lot, but it is by far the most convenient. It depends how much you are trading for fiat, and how often you plan to do it.
5073  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: highest amount you earned from bounty ??? on: January 23, 2018, 10:38:10 AM
Probably about $1500 is the most from a single bounty - it is difficult to judge because the amounts change all the time with exchange prices. Airdrops I have not had much from, with a few exceptions such as eBTC.
5074  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Market correction on: January 23, 2018, 09:56:29 AM
Would there be a big correction happening in the near future, to shake out those weak coins Huh

The short answer is nobody knows - everyone is just working on guesswork, it's just that some people make better and more informed guesses than others.
I think we are seeing relative stability at the moment, this will probably persist for a while and then back to bull market. At least I hope!
5075  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 2018's Top 5 Alt Coins? on: January 23, 2018, 09:02:33 AM
NEM, NEO, Walton, VeChain, 0x
There are loads of others to choose from, I think 2018 will be a great year. But for me those 5 are the ones I am watching closely - particularly Walton and VeChain.
5076  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I all in,how about U?! on: January 23, 2018, 08:44:33 AM
Each to his own, I suppose - but I would not go all-in on a single coin. Good luck to those that have!
Personally I am more cautious and never put more than about 10% maximum into a single lower cap coin.
5077  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What is the most possible Ethereum competitor? on: January 22, 2018, 09:29:14 AM
Guys! Let's list the most possible competitors of Ethereum.

Long-term it's probably Cardano. I still can't believe that this is a top 5 coin already - it is so early in development. I have a small amount, but would like to have more.
However I would not give up on Ethereum - this is still the number one in its class, and is likely to remain so at least in the medium term.
5078  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: KYC of bounty hunters on: January 22, 2018, 08:56:51 AM
Bounty programs are asking bounty hunters to do KYC before they are paid for work done . What do you think of this development.

I think there is not much we can do about it. Part of the cause is increasing pressure for regulation and part of it is due to some people claiming multiple times under different usernames.
5079  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: HODL! on: January 19, 2018, 02:23:40 PM
I agree that we are still early. If you think you are late, that's because you are just late compared with the people who are already involved in cryptocoins. You are early compared to all the people who will become involved later.
5080  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will binance and OKEX exchange close? on: January 19, 2018, 01:42:34 PM
It seems that China intends to further crack down on the cryptocurrency market, while binance and OKEX are both Chinese exchanges, and the founders are all Chinese. I am very concerned about whether the exchange will be closed. Huh

I wouldn't be concerned about Binance, I think it will be fine. But some smaller exchanges might suffer with government crackdowns.
Always a good idea to not keep your crypto on the exchanges though as we're all aware that there can be problems. Have everything in private wallets, and only keep what you need for trading on the exchanges.
