5081  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Armory: Call for Crowdfunding the Future of Bitcoin on the Desktop! on: February 20, 2012, 05:06:14 PM
I totally agree most of my hatred for it is out of lack of understanding. I see the good that comes from it, but I count the good as "dumb luck". Business is about making money regardless of what happens. I don't rely on donations to publish the magazine for example, I do so based on a very calculated effort of costs, fees, public interest, and I constantly move for more adoption and interest wherever possible. This might not apply to a software application like Armory, but it actually might too. I won't pretend to know, but I will ask the question-- anything other than crowdfunding on the menu?

Matt,

I think the misunderstanding comes from a perception that somehow Armory is "Done."  I will make all kinds of plugins and extras for it, Android apps, whatever, but only when it's actually done.  That includes:
  • Getting it to run on systems with less than 4GB of RAM
  • Running it without the Satoshi client in the background
  • Being able to make Windows, Linux and OSX binaries, installable like an actual program
  • Complete multi-signature interface with everything I've already listed (multi-sig, two-factor-auth, buyer-seller-escrow)
  • JSON-RPC interface
  • etc

There's a good reason it is "alpha," and many more months of work to get it to a final release with everything I think it should have.  Perhaps, at that time, I will contact you for advice/help on how to monetize future efforts.  But until then, I don't want corrupt it with ads, obligate myself to some big core donors, or stifle momentum to work on business-specific add-ons, just because I could use a few bucks now.  I want it to have everything imaginable, and also be free.  That sounds like a good crowdfunding platform Smiley

Understood and the best of luck to you man. We're all routing for you!

Good day to you too, waiting for more offers Smiley

Ho, ho, ho. His super secret business plan is finally revealed!!! His is going to open his business, arrogantly tell all comers to go stuff themselves and then wait for the customers to come to him.

[facepalm] Why didn't I think of a brilliant idea like that?

Okay I'll bite. 100BTC. What are your "rules" and "steps" for me to proceed?

OP is teetering on the thin line between ignorant soon-to-be-bankrupted-business owner and outright scammer.

Anyone care to bet which side he falls on, or alternatively bet on him violently flopping between the two?

If you can explain me what did you meant by that and why did you decide to buy it? if you think i'm scammer then why are you buying it at all?

You aren't going to sell me bitcoins because you don't like what I said? Are you insane?

Tell me how to buy, thanks.

Are you able to go first? answer this question first, then we can proceed into other steps. i'm getting paid with reversable money and i'll be paying you with noreversable money so kinda clearly that I expect you to go first.

Then i will require phone call from you + replying to my email from your paypal address, additional to that i'll expect you to wait till morning of next working day before I send you your bitcoins so I can be sure that you havent stolen paypal or using stolen credit card.

For now that's it,if I feel something about you i'll take another steps but you seem legit so I think I can take a risk Wink

dareq.

Are you interested or you were just wasting my time?

Jesus christ you're an asshole. I'm out shopping and on my iPhone. You're the one wasting my time apparently.

Need I say more?

I think he's just being "careful" and underestimating how careful Joshua of AccessCoin.com was as well (who had an elaborate and elegant system of facebook profile researching etc before allowing a sale) by thinking he "can't" be scammed.

I wish him luck with his unprofitable and extremely high risk venture.

I am just a HUGE hater of crowdfunding

It's easy to hate what you don't understand. The business mentality doesn't understand sharing, helping others, donations, generosity, kindness or being socially responsible.

I totally agree most of my hatred for it is out of lack of understanding. I see the good that comes from it, but I count the good as "dumb luck". Business is about making money regardless of what happens. EDIT: It's not going to happen, but what if MtGox paid him $100 a day to have MtGox trading options embedded (optional of course) into the client. For people who don't use MtGox, it would help them to learn about MtGox (good for MtGox), for those who do use MtGox it would simplify their process of buying bitcoins etc, and for those who are not too fond of MtGox *cough*me*cough* it would be easily ignored as it's just a feature. This is a highly exaggerated example for so early in the game, but it's not an impossible one.

How can climate change be controlled by science?

You don't watch enough cartoons. Don't you know that before Bitcoin, when people asked "how" all you had to say was "Science!". It replaced its long lived predecessor "Jesus".
5085  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Armory: Call for Crowdfunding the Future of Bitcoin on the Desktop! on: February 20, 2012, 08:24:37 AM
Alan, let me tone down the pretentious dick breath and try this again..

As a hero in the making, have you ever explored honest and honorable means to monetize other than just donations?

You still come across as pretentious to me. I have sent you pre-production payment for your magazine and you asking for that is no more (or less) "honest and honorable" than what Alan is doing - well, yours is maybe a little less honorable Smiley

Alan does not seem to be misleading in any way. Please leave him alone and just don't contribute if you don't appreciate what he is doing. I, for one, am glad that he is keeping it all open source.

Receiving fees for a tangeable item is not honorable? Lawl.

Anyway, I love Armory and hope it completely replaces all uses of the normal client and I love anything that plans on incorporating OT. Where my attitude comes from is not related to this project or OP at all-- it's that I am bias against e-begging. Call it one-dimensional (as my pro-crowdfunding marketing director Mihai Alisoe calls it) but I really think he can be making much more and bringing in more resources through other monetary means than crowdfunding alone. If he's already researching other ways, then I'll gladly find a way to remove my foot from my mouth.

@OP: I really want to do something for you with the magazine  that can help you, but I haven't had time to think up something awesome and mutually beneficial. Any ideas guys?

P.S. I know its hard to tell with me sometimes but calling him a hero wasn't sarcasm. I love this project more than I can describe in words, I am just a HUGE hater of crowdfunding for software-only initiatives. Crowdsourcing on the other hand...
5086  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Map Makers Admit Mistake in Showing Ice Cap Loss in Greenland on: February 20, 2012, 07:51:18 AM
To sum things up, pollution is horrible and highly avoidable. Climate change can be more or less controlled by science, but the mini seasons and long seasons will be naturally hot and naturally cold, eventually freezing us all to death or burning us all up. Such is the galactic alignment we inherited. There are way better arguments for clean energy than trumped up, widely speculated claims.

5089  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Summary Thread on: February 20, 2012, 06:18:47 AM
I just posted a call for help crowdfunding for Armory Bitcoin client.

I am the developer of Armory, which has recently been released as alpha.  It has all sorts of great stuff like deterministic wallets, multiple wallets, watching-only wallets, permanent paper backups, key importing/sweeping, usermodes, and a complete offline-wallet interface for keeping private keys offline while still managing funds online.  It took me 8 months to get this far, but I need some funds to keep going.  I have plans to implement a full multi-signature tx interface, buyer-seller escrow interface, and two-factor authentication via smartphone without a third-party.

Please check out the thread above, or go straight to the crowdfunding campaign website and donate!

I actually read your crowdfunding thread and found it to be disappointing. I am a huge fan of Armory, but I am totally against crowdfunding as a businessman. Might I recommend you work with people who know how to monetize the product + your skills instead of e-begging? Ever thought about ad supported? Subsidizing efforts? Providing plugins for fees? Selling licenses for tech support? There are tons of ways to make money other than just asking for free money and I wouldn't even mind helping you get there through the DCAO.

Bottom line, without providing a detailed list of what is going to be done, people don't like giving money away, especially for something that's already done more or less. If you must do crowdfunding, trying a more focused approach like $100 interval goals to unlock certain features in the least.

Future millionaire and current jobless teenager swears billions in self-potential with only requirements for startup being a limo, a webhost, and a million dollar mansion. Sounds legit! Shut up and take my money!

This forum is full of both activism and atlavism. The former relies on people who don't get laid enough barking down your throats about things that may or may not even affect you personally, and the latter stimulates a make believe economy with make-believe efforts into make believe products. I wish we could get more realists on this forum and people who know how to get shit done. Less talk, more action! SIEG HEIL!

5094  Other / Off-topic / Re: Paypal weakness found on: February 20, 2012, 05:46:13 AM
@OP: Paypal is both scammable directly and capable of scamming you directly. I have been robbed of $10k by Paypal on one occasion and I have robbed $4k from Paypal on another. Unfortunately, people don't learn this until much too late.

When you create an account with Paypal, you agree that whatever they do is fine. When you give them your credit card number, again, you're agreeing that whatever they use it for is fine. Same goes for your bank account information. If you initiate a purchase with insufficient funds in your account, it automatically tries to take that money from either the bank or credit card. The main problem with this is that even if you cancel the purchase a split second later, that ACH is still going through regardless. Want to know the best part of it all? If you have insufficient funds in your account, they'll retry up to 2 times more meaning they will triple overdraft your accounts and still hold you at a negative balance in your Paypal account for fees incurred by them.

Paypal should be sued. Oh wait, they were! Numerous times! And keep losing! Check out more horror stories like yours at paypalsucks.com

Is Dareq worth the energy, Matthew?

Aren't you still banned by Theymos?
5096  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: PayPal for BTC Exchanger on: February 20, 2012, 05:24:40 AM
I bet I know what OP's "big secret" is.

  • You send Paypal money to dareq
  • Dareq instructs you to file a claim on it and then cancel that claim
  • Once cancelled, claims can never be reinstated for the same transaction
  • Dareq sends the bitcoins

This does actually work per Paypal's TOS as far as securing against any paypal fund reversals in the future (more or less), but that doesn't stop payments from being reversed by accounts where the buyer is using a stolen credit card. If the card is stolen, the seller is taking all the risk. If the card is legit, the buyer is taking all of the risk.

Irregardless, once Paypal finds out that the OP is selling currencies through Paypal which is against their TOS, the slightest account hiccup or anonymous tip to them that garnishes a look into what he's selling will end up in full account lockdown just like Mr Coins and every other big-mouthed overly cocky jerkwad newbie who thought they knew more about Paypal than people who run financial services.

OP is teetering on the thin line between ignorant soon-to-be-bankrupted-business owner and outright scammer.

Anyone care to bet which side he falls on, or alternatively bet on him violently flopping between the two?

Wasn't the site ran from Italy?

Correct me, but arenīt the makers of bitscalper from Germany?

Completely mixed up. He claims to be Italian but hosted through KalyHost in Germany.

Another newb thinks he has the secret recipe for Paypal to Bitcoin. Now taking bets on how many days till he is bankrupt.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=64530

The last time someone came to the forums cocky about how they had it all figured out, I told them exactly why it wouldn't work and exactly how they'd lose their money. Not only was I absolutely correct about it, they never even came back and apologized for being such douchebags. Now we get to see history repeat itself, but this time instead of Mr Coins, it's dareq.

Hello guys!

I'm new member on this forum but you can be sure i'll make big contribution to your (well, soon I can call it our's) community because I'll be offering BTC exchange for PayPal ! Yes, you read right, i'll be accepting PayPal for BTC payments. It may seem weird but that's true, I have my own method of securing money on PayPal even if I get "scammed" and chargebacked by someone,I have my own way of dealing with it Smiley

Let's hope his way of dealing with it isn't suicide.

For those who aren't interested, please ignore this thread and excuse me for wasting your interwebs.

Forum threads are intended to incite discussions, but some of the most interesting threads are the summary threads about discussions. Not everyone has time to delve into pages and pages of ridiculous trolling and self-promotional posts by wannabe libertards and 12 year old captains of industry, so I thought we needed a place to sum up what's going on on these forums daily.

Feel free to discuss lightly but understand that this is more of a redirect thread to other threads than anything else. Think of it as a headline thread.

I'll start the ball rolling.
