5081  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: STOLEN BITCOINS - $ 10.5 BITCOINS - WILL OFFER REWARD on: June 30, 2014, 04:55:42 PM
Sorry man, but no one is ever going to be brought to justice. As a rule of thumb never ever use an online wallet for more than a small amount. The risks involved are substantial, and you will want to transfer any balance bought on an exchange immediately to a wallet that is 100% under your control.
If you are using a non Linux operating system then you will also need strong virus/malware/rootkit protection. Additionally I would do all visits to the exchange via TOR browser. Remember your not protecting a face book account here, this is real money.
5082  Other / Politics & Society / Re: USA is getting adversely affected by Immigrants on: June 30, 2014, 04:47:23 PM
usa was founded as a second europe without kings not a third world melting pot

non european immigration practically didn't exist until the law changed to allow it in 1965

non european immigrants and their descendents are overrepresented in school drop out rates illegitimacy welfare claims crime and any negative socioeconomic indicator you care to look at
Uh, the USA was stolen from the people who were already here. Many of whom are the Mexicans you now think should not be here. Why don't you volunteer to go home? You are just an immigrant freeloader here to take native American jobs and resources.
5083  Other / Off-topic / Re: Why do people deny the climate change? on: June 26, 2014, 06:01:03 PM
This, it's not to deny climate change, it's to deny it's caused by humans, industrial activity. I've seen some good reasons why it may not be our fault but just Earth doing what it does.

Do you want to deny these facts?

1. The Carbon-di-Oxide levels in the atmosphere has risen by more than 50% during the last 50 years.
2. Gases like Carbon-di-Oxide and Methane causes the green house effect, which rises the surface temperature of the earth.
3. Every year, some 31 billion tonnes of Carbon-di-Oxide is released in to the atmosphere, as a result of the human activity.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_carbon_dioxide_emissions

Even if this is true, how do you propose solving this climate issue?

Kill 90% of the human population?
Not enough. That is still close to a billion humans. I think we need to get rid of about 99%+. Of course, I'm not volunteering.
This also would not stop the warming for a long time, however. And once we cross the line that releases permafrost methane or carbon out-gassing in the ocean, then there is nothing we can do.

Raise your hand if you're tired of that fat kid talking like a tough guy. I bet a few hands would go up in the DPRK also. In fact if you ever wanted to send him a birthday card this would be a good time. I doubt moon face has many left.
5085  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Magic the Gathering Trading Portal with Bitcoins or Altcoins? on: June 25, 2014, 05:56:03 PM
You may have liked MTGOX. Which started as Magic The Gathering Online Exchange.

But you would not have liked how things ended there.   Undecided
5086  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: My buddy is getting a divorce. Can the court seize half of his bitcoins? on: June 25, 2014, 04:54:52 PM
You could gamble it all away, but you still owe the money. That is because it is not your money, it is your ex-wife's money.
What if you were to gamble it away when the marriage was falling apart beyond repair but divorce had not been brought up yet?
I'm not a lawyer, but my understanding is that dissipation would then be the issue. (as mentioned above). It would be quite a risk and not very sensible. You would go from giving half of your coins away to giving them all away and still having a bill to pay.

5090  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Has anything ever outperformed bitcoin returns? on: June 24, 2014, 03:40:56 PM
With most investments I would be happy with a 10% ROI. I can't think of anything that approaches bitcoin.
5091  Other / Politics & Society / Re: US police departments are increasingly militarised, finds report on: June 24, 2014, 02:09:48 PM
I find this disturbing. My father was a cop and he was also concerned about the militarization of the police. He would rant about how irrelevant military experience was. About how his gun was his least useful tool.
What about your pen, your people skills, or your radio? These are the tools a cop uses every day. If your a lucky cop, you'll never have to use your gun.

Hi all.
Who likes high end 1911s?

User "Jagged Peak" is selling a collection of very nice 1911s. Brands include Colt, Wilson combat, NightHawk, Les Baer, and Dan Wesson! These beautiful guns are not cheap, but they are available for bitcoin.

5095  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: We Need an exchange with security and guarantee of no loss as traders. on: June 23, 2014, 03:02:51 PM
Hi @cryptolaw666,

I am certainly for more accountability at exchanges, but that will not protect you from losses. There are losers and winners in any free market. That is why rule #1 in any investing is to not invest any more than you can afford to totally lose. That should be especially heeded in the case of an extremely risky vehicle like bitcoin.

There is no way to totally mitigate the risk of loss. It is not something that the exchange can help you with either. If the price dropped, for example, how could they cover the losses? They don't have the money. Most exchanges get a cut for facilitating the exchange or withdrawal. If the price were to fall and I lost value, then the value is gone and no one can replace it.
Investing IS gambling. That's really all it is, and your 401K is just a bet about the future health of the stock market. You would not gamble with your rent money, right? That is why you should not "invest" in bitcoin with needed money either. Of course you could just use bitcoin as a currency, like it was designed. In that case you don't have to worry about all this.
5096  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-06-20] PayPals Bitcoin Integration Coming ‘Very Soon’(ish) ;o) on: June 20, 2014, 08:07:02 PM
Its great that this puts bitcoin more in the mainstream, but... my questions are:

Will there still be a vig to pay when using bitcoin with paypal?

Won't paypal still have the ability to freeze anyone's account arbitrarily as they are notoriously known to do? I know I would be livid if they did that to me if I had bitcoins in my account.

I'll never use paypal, but yeah, this is good. {no sarcasm}
Good questions. For example what if they let you hold a balance in bitcoin but you must use their wallet and not withdraw? Then they could freeze your funds.
No thanks.
5097  Economy / Speculation / Re: What if there is no bubble coming.. on: June 20, 2014, 07:56:12 PM
there is no hope and the price will drop harder, $500 is coming and $4xx and $3xx won't be long, the bitcoin bubble bursted, ...

How come nonsense is always written in red or all caps?
5098  Economy / Economics / Re: The United States has finally recovered the jobs lost during the Great Recession on: June 20, 2014, 07:44:37 PM
It's not really an Obama thing. Because the economic factors are way bigger than the presidency  I don't give him blame or cred. And I don't think we have recovered from anything. In fact where did we get this silly idea that economies must "recover".

The jobs that came back are low wage, dead end jobs. Now if we mean the economy as thought of by the wealthy then yes, not only have we recovered, these are the best economic times in all of American history. Never has a billionaire had such a good chance of becoming a multi-billionaire. And the profits of large companies are higher than ever in history.

For the extremely wealthy, the economy is beyond good, it's almost perfect. There are a few more unions to kill and voices to crush. But soon the slavery act of 2019 will free us all from the tyranny of having to make our own choices about money.

5100  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Iraq's second largest city, Mosul, captured by Islamic State of Iraq and Syria on: June 20, 2014, 07:20:55 PM
We should remind ourselves that there was never a time we were going to win this war. That self delusional nonsense was only for the most gullible soccer moms and neo-con flag waivers.
I remember when GWB announced a "crusade" in the middle east. I was like "Holly shit, did he just say that?" Such a statement showed me that he knew nothing about the region. But I assumed that his CIA advisers would steer him back to planet Earth.  Sadly, Dick Cheney's office went after anyone who spoke truth to power and promoted those who said "yes sir!".
Their claim that in six months the war would be over and we would be welcomed with roses was... well a bit off.
So settle in folks. We will be fighting this war for the rest of your life. In the mid-east, in Europe, and in America.

"Wars begin when you will, but they do not end when you please."
-Niccolò Machiavelli
