5101  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ukraine 'to Crackdown on Separatist Bitcoin Accounts' on: March 23, 2015, 11:41:28 AM
Ukraine will surely lose this battle... Grin
They may be able to block a few of the accounts but the vast majority will escape undetected.
Just more wishful thinking from these egomaniac countries.

There's no battle. As bryant.coleman wrote, the rebels switched to Russian ruble and do not depend on Ukrainian banks.

The only ones who will probably get hit are Ukrainian (non-separatist) bitcoin users:

Quote
In the meantime, Reddit users have fuelled speculation that Ukranian exchange website BTCTrade.com.ua may be inaccessible to domestic Internet users.

Confirmation, which has been loosely translated, came via Twitter: "We are under suspicion by Privatbank. We apologise for temporarily suspending payouts in Hryvnia."

A member from the Bitcoin Brazilian Community is climbing Everest and, if he succeeds, will put a Bitcoin flag almost on the top of the Earth's highest mountain. The current news is that Allex Ferreira (the mentioned member of BR community) will arrive to the Everest Base Camp in about 4 days, where he should put the Bitcoin flag (at an altitude of ~5,000 meters).

Here is one picture: https://i.imgur.com/323Iadd.jpg

If it succeeds, Bitcoin will be (really) nearest to the Moon. Go Allex! Go Bitcoin!

I'm not very excited by the idea. They already have serious problem with all the rubbish left behind by the climbers (not to mention over 200 dead bodies).

If succeeded, the flag won't be even at the top, and, to be honest, it's not the prettiest of flags:

It would be great to get some media attention on that.

"Police stole 8-years-old's piggy bank" - catchy headline.

Seriously, it must have been traumatic experience for the girl.

I'm happy to contribute:

Waiting on my "investment tab" to be opened. Can't wait to take a look at this exclusive feature

Great thing about investment is that there's 'risk level' option, ranging from 0.5xkelly to 10xkelly. Familiarise yourself with it first, and don't go x5 or x10 unless you know how it works.
5106  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Gemini.com Exchange - Sign up for early access on their website on: March 21, 2015, 10:06:42 PM
There have actually been a large number of shill accounts going around saying they just used various scam exchanges, or recommending scam exchanges, or otherwise advertising scam exchanges, or that they will use a scam exchange instead of dealing with someone in the currency exchange section.

They have generally be newbie accounts, although I would not doubt that the OP is a shill for Gemini.com and that there will eventually be scam reports about them

Gemini.com is Winklevoss twins project (an addition to their ETF plans). There was a wide media coverage about that. It's suppose to be fully regulated etc, so don't think running away with the money (aka 'getting hacked') is an option for them.

Bitcoin's value has stabilised over the last 24 hours following several days of plummeting prices, prompted by the disappearance of the biggest dark web marketplace earlier this week.

Bitreserve maps bitcoin transactions

Online payment platform Bitreserve has launched a microsite featuring a real-time visualisation of how its users store their funds.

Change Money plots the currency that people hold their funds in various locations around the world, revealing that around 65% of users store them in bitcoin.

5108  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: [BIT-X] Signature Campaign - Discussion on: March 21, 2015, 09:13:00 PM
Honestly, I can't understand why would any participant prefer monthly payments.

It's always better to have access to your funds sooner than later. If you don't like weekly payments then... just don't withdraw weekly, let the funds cumulate on your bit-x account for a month (or longer).

I do understand marco's and bit-x point of view:

Quote
- BIT-X gets a full month of advertising instead of a week (if a user changes their signature after only a week, all posts in that week become useless to BIT-X, a month gives more time for those posts to be seen)

Fair enough. If it comes with increased payments, I can live with that.

Generally I think campaign is working pretty fine. I would reconsider reopening some of the boards. For example, I'd allow local boards, but with set limit of posts in such boards (say no more than 10-20/month).

Rather than disqualifying all altcoin boards, I'd allow "Marketplace (Altcoins)" and possibly "Altcoin Discussion" as these could be valuable for bit-x (who also accept 1 altcoin - Litecoin). Or maybe just disallow "Announcements (Altcoins)" as it's most spammy. Or, as above, just set a limit of posts in those boards per month?
5109  Economy / Goods / Re: Cigarette for Sale ~ 100% Duty Free Sales. on: March 21, 2015, 08:46:07 PM
Hello fellas i'm selling 5 packets of Cigarette for 0.05750 bitcoin which is Approximately $15 as at the time i wrote this Post.

I'll be shipping it to anywhere in the U.K for a fee of $5...

Drop your Comments or PM me for a Deal.

What's the brand of the cigs? If it's for UK, why do you state price and shipping in USD not GBP?

Are you willing to do escrow since you're newbie with no trust score?

Price seems reasonable, but (depending on the brand) it may be more expensive than dutyfree.io (they have free shipping) and they're more trusted.

I submitted my email, but I'm guessing it will be for US customers only (at least at the start).

The website is still unavailable for me.
Is it a maintenance issue or is the site being DDOS?

Don't know whether they had some downtime earlier, but site is loading fine for me now.
5112  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: [BIT-X] Signature Campaign - Discussion on: March 21, 2015, 12:57:01 PM

I think this is really a nice Idea, Create a thread in "Games and rounds" that Those Who will report a Spamy post of those member who are wearning Bit-x Sig will receive BTC for doing that.

Nah, this way every signature wearer will be reported. Simple logic: report everyone and maybe you'll get paid for 1 or 2 of them.

...You should also encourage users to report posters to you directly like stinglewood does.

Isn't it better for everyone to report spammers directly to mods (using 'report to moderator' button)? Seems more effective and simple.

If you're a spammer and you're banned from campaign, you could just enroll to other one. But if you're banned from forum for 2 weeks, then you not only don't get paid for current period, but you're also losing potential earnings for the next 2 weeks.

Is The World Ready For Bitcoin To Go Mainstream?

Quote
Bitcoin is changing the way people pay for things and the larger economy overall. Although bitcoin remains mysterious and confusing to most people, there are signs nearly every day that bitcoin is gaining more and more legitimacy, not only in technology circles but also amongst the mainstream.

Bitcoin was pegged in a report by Goldman Sachs as having the potential to reshape the financial industry, in large part due to the way the currency decentralized the movement of money. If that’s not enough, just recently one New Hampshire legislator introduced a bill that could lead to the state accepting bitcoins for taxes and fees.

How does he know which bitcoin accounts are being used by the separatists? Maybe he meant to say bitcoin wallets at an exchange or something.

If he meant exchanges, then blocking separatists' bank accounts would do the trick.

Truth is he probably have a very limited idea on how Bitcoin works and all his knowledge comes from reading headlines in newspapers. I'm guessing he just threw in word 'Bitcoin' to make him look like he's up to date with current trends and technology etc.

The Ukraine government are just CIA's puppets, so they don't even try to look smart and do any research before making public statements. On the other side you have separatists controlled by Russia. It's not fun to live in Ukraine right now.
5116  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Another Fed Jumps Over The Bitcoin Fence on: March 20, 2015, 08:00:24 PM

Why is this Bitcoin firm always choosing guys from the government to work for them.

Ripple Labs is not a Bitcoin firm.

They choose such people for the prestige and connections. But I don't think all those 'celebrity hires' will do them any good in the long term.

Hi guys I am new to bitcoin and I have seen videos on how to mine to help me get started but even though I followed all the directions my slush account says that my workers are offline and that I am not generating bitcoins I am having trouble fixing this I am using guiminer can someone help?

Hi.

First of all, you may want to move this thread (see lower left corner) to mining support board:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=40.0

You'd also need to include more details, what hardware do you use for mining? What software (ie cgminer)?

You should know that mining is generally not profitable atm, so you'll be mining at loss.

Nalyvaychenko noted:

"The financing of terrorism in the territory of Ukraine is carried out not only by the cash coming from Russia, but also through attempts to make money through electronic systems [...] we will work to block cards and bitcoin accounts being used by the separatists."

What is bitcoin account? Where can I get one?

Sounds like just another strange statement from Ukrainian security service and I sense Mr Nalyvaychenko doesn't have a clue what he's talking about.
5119  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Dutyfree.io - Buy cheap cigarettes with Bitcoin on: March 20, 2015, 03:29:20 PM
Two days since the first pack arrived and no sign of the second  Huh

If both have been sent the same time, it's likely that that the missing one has been intercepted by the Customs. If that's the case, you'll probably receive some sort of notification/letter from them (but that can take a while).
5120  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Who likes saving up to 35% on Amazon? I DO! on: March 19, 2015, 09:51:55 PM

I know, I have spoken to the company, they know that I haven't scammed them, but if and when they report it they will go after both me and the buyer, they will have to.  Apparently as they are an Amazon marketplace company, any refunds are done automatically.  I actually didn't know about the situation until I got a letter asking me to sign to confirm non-receipt of the item.  I immediately contacted them to tell them that I had received it.

You can argue the semantics of who has been scammed with me, I would just say that the stress of dealing with it and the threats of legal action, along with the complete lack of support from Purse.io here, are not worth the discount available. For what it's worth, the item cost 140€, so I saved 35€.  If push comes to shove, I will probably pay the 140€ to the company to avoid court. Like I say, it's not worth it.

They don't have a case. For fuck sake, don't pay them anything. You did nothing wrong.

There's plenty of shady companies trying to play on peoples fear of courts. There's nothing to fear. No company will start legal action for 140€. They just trying to trick you to get the money back (sensing you're scared etc). The other guy is probably non-responsive so they know they won't get any money from him.

In some jurisdictions you could actually sue them for what they're trying to do.

Again, they did the refund. If it was automatic, they agreed to Amazon terms.

I honestly don't know what kind of support purse.io could provide you in this case.

Anyone can threat you with court for any reason, it doesn't cost anything.

And why do you people are so afraid of courts? It's not like you have to hire a lawyer for a simple cases. Going to court doesn't mean you're criminal, it could simply mean that 2 parties have a dispute and are not willing or unable to resolve it between themselves.
