5102  Other / Beginners & Help / New ransomware hits Italy via fake Covid-19 map on: May 27, 2020, 12:31:53 PM
A new ransomware name [F]Unicorn has been spreading in Italy by tricking its victim into downloading a fake contact tracing app. They have done it using by taking advantage of the Italian Pharmacist Federation (FOFI) to look like it came from a trusted and reliable source.

Quote
Users are lured with an email in Italian informing that a beta release of Immuni for PC is available to fight the spread of COVID-19. From the text of the message, the targets are pharmacies, universities, doctors, and other entities fighting the new coronavirus contagion.

The attacker also cloned the FOFI website and registered a domain name similar to the original. However, they used “fofl.it,“ with a lowercase ”L“ as the last character that is easily confused with the lowercase ‘i’ used in the legitimate domain name.

So when you download and execute the malicious apps, it will shows a fake dashboard from Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University. The malware then looks for the following file types in your system.

So once your system is encrypted, the cyber criminals will ask you to pay EUR 300 in three days and to be paid in BTC.

It's good that no one has deposited in that address so far.

Base on the report, usually this malware targets those who are in the front line of the fights against the virus, but I'm sure they can modify the code to target everyone by having an email campaign.

5103  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to Spend Bitcoin? on: May 27, 2020, 11:14:51 AM
HODL is the name of the game at the moment. You can spend it for random crap, but BTC is for the long rund and not for the quick buck .
Could be, but there are bitcoin enthusiast who want to test it's use case as a mode of payment. So you can't blame them for using their precious bitcoin. Here are some good companies retailers accepting BTC as payment.

https://www.buybitcoinworldwide.com/who-accepts-bitcoin/

Endless debate as to whether we should spend our bitcoin. Really up to the individuals preference and I'm sure that those who are using it should not regret their decision.
5104  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Those that hate risks! on: May 27, 2020, 09:51:42 AM
You should not think of going into trading if you hate to lose money. I have read some comments both here and on social media on how much has made and lose. Trading is all about losing and making money, if you are afraid of one then avoid it completely.
That is why we say that crypto trading is not suited for everyone, specially those who can't take the 'losing' part. If part of the gamble, if you don't understand how the system works and don't have a plan B or plan C, then better quit early to not lose more money.

I have been trading stock and forex for more than 9 years now and of a truth it takes fearless mind to do so. You want to succeed in trade then you need to remove fear out of the way. Fear make you to lose money and opportunity.
I also have some experience in stock trading, so I know when to take the risk and I don't fear losing. Its part and parcel, no risk, no reward. Those opportunity are there to be taken by those who are losing to go.
5105  Economy / Speculation / Re: BitcoinPizzaDay 2025 on: May 27, 2020, 09:22:32 AM
So think twice before using your Bitcoin when you order today.
Laszlo Hanyecz bought the pizza that time wanted to proved that you can buy pizza or at least a physical goods. It's one of the use case of bitcoin back then, and if not for him, we wouldn't see bitcoin taking off for the next 10 years.

But the whole narrative changes, people now thinks bitcoin as store of value, an asset and form of investment. But bitcoin can still be use as medium, I've been using it to pay some of may basic bills up to this time so it won't change a thing for me.

5107  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [Warning]: Double your bitcoin in Nitrogen Sports on: May 26, 2020, 07:57:09 AM
Hey all, thanks to everyone for reporting this. We have this blog post as a warning to our users to be wary of using unofficial apps, extensions, and others claiming to be from Nitrogen Sports.

Moreover, there is no official extension or apps from Nitrogen Sports.

-Kevin, Nitrogen Sports rep.
Hey Kevin, no worries, I guess I just wanted to help the community by given them a fair warning.

@Avirunes - thanks for you suggestions, I've written [Guide]: Reporting harmful and abusive Firefox add-on.
5108  Other / Beginners & Help / [Guide]: Reporting harmful and abusive Firefox add-on on: May 26, 2020, 05:04:40 AM
Couple of days ago, I reported [Warning]: Double your bitcoin in Nitrogen Sports.

And for this scam to work, they will ask you to install a Firefox add-on.

I've written a guide below in order for crypto enthusiast to report harmful and malicious add-on if they see someone promoting (specially newbie) in this community. This is not widespread though, usually  cyber criminals are using google chrome extension. But we will never know, perhaps they will exploit Firefox add-on later. Maybe one of the reason is that add-on might be security intensive for them. Anyways, please see the guide:

1. Go directly to the add-on link, in our this case:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/nitrogensports-promotions/

2. Below on the right side you will see Report this add-on for abuse, click it.

3. Click It damaged my computer or compromised by data. Then click Next.

4. Write the reasons why you this is harmful and malicious and violating Firefox policies on add-on. After you are done, click Submit.

5. Then you will see a confirmation that your report has been submitted.

What's next?

It will go on for a review, and it deem by Firefox that this add-on has violated their policies it will obviously be taken down and will be on Add-ons that cause stability or security issues are put on a blocklist.

Another way is to search the name of the add-on:

1. Go here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/themes/

2. Then type the name of the add-on on the search text box.

And then follow the procedures 2-4 above.

Edit: Another red flag that this add-on is really malicious is by looking at the Permission:

5109  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [ BOXING ]: Fury vs Wilder III in Las Vegas on 18th July 2020 !!! on: May 26, 2020, 03:54:44 AM
I think the ball should be in the court of Wilder to perform and recapture his belt. He is the one who are going to adjust. Fury will still do the same, execute the same strategy, heavier and bigger, used his boxing skills, etc.
This is the funniest response i saw till now, in the second fight Fury changed his fighting style completely and Wilder does not know anything else other than waiting for the knockout punch and landing one. Are you telling me that Wilder will learn boxing while he is at the end of his career Tongue.
You said Fury adjusted, then why can't Wilder do the same, simple adjustment like more head movement, angles so that Fury will have a hard time hitting him in the face. Yes, maybe he will be having a hard time to re-adjust his fighting style. This is like a chess game, and one key for Wilder to win and be unpredictable.

Perhaps he was eager for a trilogy because he knows he did something wrong in the second fight, so we will see. If he losses in the same fashion and we didn't see any adjusted then say goodbye to his career.
5110  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [ BOXING ]: Fury vs Wilder III in Las Vegas on 18th July 2020 !!! on: May 25, 2020, 04:01:17 PM
Fury did an interview with Sky Sports on on the 22nd and in it he was asked about future fights, and in it he alluded that if he loses he'll be fighting Wilder again before anyone else and could keep going on and on, so it looks like he will have the rematch clause: https://youtu.be/MgGgUFRy5N4?t=212

If he does lose and they have a rematch they should just sign a deal that it's the last fight with no rematches as it could get ridiculous. I don't think they should go past a trilogy but I guess if Fury does lose then he will want the rematch.

So it's compelling for Fury to really finished this match in fashion so that we won't see a 4th and 5th fight. He needs to perform even better in this trilogy so that there will be no doubts as to who really is the greatest in this generation. And this is what fans wanted to see and still going to watch even if the price is ridiculous because of the pandemic.
I think the ball should be in the court of Wilder to perform and recapture his belt. He is the one who are going to adjust. Fury will still do the same, execute the same strategy, heavier and bigger, used his boxing skills, etc.

Rematch clause is there for a reason, to make more money for them. Definitely, boxing fans wanted to see more action between the two so if there will be a fourth fight, expect it to sell and bring fans to the arena.
5111  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Stop calling it DICE. on: May 25, 2020, 03:14:38 PM
I am amazed why it is called DICE gambling when it has nothing to with dice. RNG picks a number and thats all where is the dice in that. Normally  you have to choose in between 10000 numbers not like dice which has only six sides. Apart from that there is no visual animation corresponding to dice throw still there is picture of dice and it says ROLL, and I say LOL.
With the advent of online games, I think the people behind did look for a game that is simply and that everyone can understand. So probably they take advantage and uses "dice" as a model and with a twist, choose a number in between 10000 numbers.

You can also look at this dice variations, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Farkle
5112  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Slots are better than Dice. on: May 24, 2020, 02:29:51 AM
Depends on individual preferences, but if you are going to look at the math behind and the chance then it's going to be complicated and I don't think that gamblers are willing to look at it. In the long run you can get busted easily regardless of how much capital you have and how much x% you are targeting.

So you are neither right or wrong, others might have some strategy when they play dice but sooner or later house edge will catch up.
5113  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why would anyone want to use a paper wallet with raw private key? on: May 24, 2020, 02:03:52 AM

5114  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2020 NBA Season on: May 24, 2020, 01:35:29 AM

Deron Williams versus Chris Paul was one of the most epic talks of their early years, and you wouldn't believe it now but back in those days there was a ton of people who thought Deron Williams was much better player only because he was stronger and taller so he could go inside against other point guards whereas Chris Paul was smaller and weaker so he would be seen as the worse one between the two.

Deron was a better player than CP3 in their first 3 season against each other, and of course Deron has a better stats than CP3 while the Jazz are up 8-2 against the Jazz in that season.
https://bleacherreport.com/articles/72602-why-deron-williams-is-better-than-chris-paul

Though, in the long run Deron has gradually lost his game specially when he got to Brooklyn where there are a lot of good players like Garnet, Pierce, and Johnson.
He suddenly became overrated, because when he was still in Utah, Sloan has made him almost the best point guard in the league during that time.
I don't know what happened to him, maybe he had injury or what, but CP3 just proved him he's better than Deron in the long run.
Deron during his prime has one of the sickest cross-overs and yes I would say that early on he was the better player and yes he has the best time of his career with the Utah Jazz. But the problem is that his 'head' gets bigger wanted more freedom and then that's how the beef with Sloan started. And there where rumors that he forces Sloan to quit, and then Williams goes to the Nets. And it started the downfall of Deron. Rest is history.

But prior to Jerry Sloan passing, they have patch things up: https://www.nba.com/jazz/williams-sloan-put-past-where-it-belongs

Its seems post has deleted and your Archived version isn't working as well. For if anyone want to take a look on Archived version LoyceV club would help, here is Archived link: http://loyce.club/archive/posts/5448/54484941.html ,
Thanks, I don't know what happened why it is not archived properly.

I used to use archive.* in the past, but it is not working on my end that's why I uses web.archive.

We shouldn't install any addon if we don't have knowledge about what we are going to install. It would harm us even it would keep role to hack our device. Besides that, sound like scammy to me. Offer something like double your bitcoin within short of time is obvious scam. It's more better to stay away from such as offer. Likely moderators deleted scammer's thread due malicious links.
I agree that we shouldn't install any third party add-on specially coming from a newbie account. But we can't discount the fact that many are blindly trusting anyone specially if they see that they can supposedly double their bitcoins.

@sujonali1819 - thanks, I will update the OP with those links.

That's one annoying ransomware, but unfortunately the article didn't mention how to prevent it or whether Windows update/anti-virus already can detect it.

I think this ransomware is fairly new and evolving and that is has the capability to disarm those AV.
They even admit that it is the first time that they have seen this kind of attack vector. So maybe AV companies are looking for solution right now.

One fastest solution is to have a decryptor, but not sure how long will it take to make one for this specific ransomware.

Ragnar Locker ransomware deploys virtual machine to dodge security

There is a new ransomware using Oracle's VirtualBox (old version) to conceal their presence on infected machines inside a Windows XP Virtual Machine. Sounds complicated right? That's why this malware are targeting specifics like corporation and government, but I'm sure the next iteration will go full blast and will try to infect as many machines they can find.

Quote
The adversaries behind Ragnar Locker have been known to steal data from targeted networks prior to launching ransomware, to encourage victims to pay. In April, the actors behind Ragnar Locker attacked the network of Energias de Portugal (EDP) and claimed to have stolen 10 terabytes of sensitive company data, demanding a payment of 1,580 Bitcoin (approximately $11 million US) and threatening to release the data if the ransom was not paid.

So instead of running the malware to the machine itself, it will first downloads and installs Oracle VirtualBox. Then set it up to work with files stored outside, copied to the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\VirtualAppliances.. Next is to boot up the VM, then run it, script executes a command to delete the targeted PC’s volume shadow copies, so victims cannot restore older unencrypted versions of their files. And because it is running on VM, anti-virus can't detect it.

Quote
The following steps can be identified in the root cause analysis (RCA) logs:

Microsoft Installer (msiexec.exe) executes
MSI package is downloaded
bat is executed: cmd.exe /c “C:\Program Files (x86)\VirtualAppliances\install.bat”
Attempts to terminate Anti-Virus process: taskkill /IM SavService.exe /F
Attempts to stop Anti-Virus service and other processes: sc stop mysql
Mounts accessible networks share to available drive letters: mountvol E: \\?\Volume{174f8ec6-d584-11e9-8afa-806e6f6e6963}\
Starts VirtualBox in headless mode: C:\Program Files (x86)\VirtualAppliances\app64\VBoxHeadless.exe” –startvm micro -v off
Deletes shadow copies: vssadmin delete shadows /all /quiet
