5141  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Don't let those spelling mistakes & poor grammar turn your post into a shitpost. on: January 26, 2019, 04:05:42 PM
There are a lot of crypto related words that come up as spelling errors on my browser.  Even crypto has an incorrect spelling marker underneath it.
Bitcointalk also comes up as a spelling error... those are the kind of words alongside so many crypto related jargons that you just ignore or add to your dictionary

I don't like Grammarly - even the name jars with me. Also, it's primarily American, and that is a colloquial subset of English.
Well, everyone certainly has there own preferences and dislikes, but if you like writing in British English, there is an Option for that too
5142  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Don't let those spelling mistakes & poor grammar turn you post into a shitpost. on: January 26, 2019, 03:57:13 PM
Well, It isn't a must to write (speak english) like the queen of England but as far your readers can understand what you're saying then you're good.
I didn't say one has to write like the Queen. Am just pointing out how one can improve on their posts without much hustle. It's an alternatively and it's not rallying any other person's project here.
Hope you understand.

Some of the users here make good articles but one of the biggest let downs is the spelling mistakes and grammar which end up ruining an excellent article.
They can't be blamed because just like me, English is not their native language.

However, I did try to reduce on the challenge of grammar and spelling mistakes using an addon know as Grammarly. This addon is available on Firefox, Chrome, and Safari. Other Firefox and chromium based browser like Brave, Tor e.t.c should be able to install this addon without any challenge.
Even while using a free version of this addon, one can be able to make a very big difference in the posts one makes.

How to Install Grammarly.

  • You can get it on your browser by visiting the official link: https://grammarly.com on a supported browser. You will be able to view a button to download it as shown below

Note: Avoid downloading directly from google searches or browser extension stores without carefully looking at the site to determine if it's the genuine link. This can save you from downloading fake web browser extensions that could compromise your security

  • After downloading the extension, a green round button with a rounded arrow inside it should be visible in the extension bar, Click on it and sign up for a free account
    when you sign up, you will be able to;
    - Save your work and access it from any other computer
    - Save your personal dictionary
    - Choose the preferred sites you would love Grammarly to access

How to use Grammarly

  • Once you have signed up and set it up, you can now start your post writing or commenting using the browser. As you write, green underlines will appear below each word that has a spelling error or a number of words that have grammatical issues and a green circle or sometimes just a dot will appear at the bottom right side of the text box showing the number of errors you have made so far.

    You can either correct each mistake by hovering your mouse over the underlined area, Grammary will pop up a word or punctuation suggestion which you can click on and it gets instantly corrected

or you can just click on the green circle or dot to make all the corrections. An expanded window will appear. Click on the " ^ " symbol to see a detailed suggestion and click on the " x " symbol to ignore.

That is it,  with this you should be able to improve your article/post quality. It may not be 100% but it will be much better. Maybe 80% to 90% better quality than your initial article/post quality.
There is also a premium version but I think the free version should be enough unless one really wants to go further and pay for the premium.

Disclaimer:This is not any sort of advert for the Grammarly add-on. this post is just intended for educational purposes on how forum members can improve on their written english
5144  Other / Meta / Re: This is a completely different title on: January 26, 2019, 01:38:46 PM
It's a feature. Without it, there would be no point of showing a title for each post.

Each post gets it's own title, and that doesn't change when the topic title is changed.
And if you quote such a post (try it!), your post copies that title instead of the topic title.

Oh great, thanks for the clarification. Clearly understood.

If you reply now your subject will same if you don't bother to edit.

When OP post reserve that time topic title was Open so it will never change even you change main post title.

That wasn't edited.

Summary is, when you will reply a thread your subject will same as current subject of OP. If OP edit subject it will not change your subject. But you can change only manually if you want.
Thanx for the explanation.

Now locking the topic.

5145  Other / Meta / Thread showing different subjects after editing. on: January 26, 2019, 01:18:54 PM
I couldn't help but notice this;

Topic as shown in OP

Topic as show in replying posts

As you can see, the topic was obviously edited from [OPEN] to [CFNP] but in the thread, the post's subject still remains as [OPEN] which is quite confusing.
- Is this something that should be corrected or it just a forum feature used by users to know what the subject was before it was edited?
- If it is a title/subject history feature, then why don't we just have a view edit history button or link next to the dotted timestamp or Just make the edit history linkable to the dotted timestamp if the post has been edited?
5146  Other / Meta / Re: Account banned on: January 26, 2019, 11:03:08 AM
I did not create a new account, when you look at the dates both accounts were created you will notice that they are not recent

It doesn't matter on what date you created it, so long as you are permanently banned from the forum... You are banned as a person. Any of the accounts you use here are considered not welcome.
Any attempt to use any other account in the forum to continue posting in other boards after getting banned is what we call ban evasion.
5147  Other / Meta / Re: Annoying copper membership PM and signature view on inbox. on: January 26, 2019, 10:57:36 AM
Another thing is showing signature on inbox. It it really important to show user signature on PM? Few user never joined or use any signature campaign. If we PM them with signature definitely they will fell annoy. Because PM is for personal discussion, it's not public discussion.

Is it possible diable view signature on inbox ?

I don't see any issue with signature in the PM. That still is a way of advertising in the forum, so long as someone does not spam your PM. You still see them on almost every post in the forum... don't you?
So why does it become a big issue in PM?
5148  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: i want to buy 30 BTC, whats the best way ? on: January 23, 2019, 07:19:40 AM
name a website that accepts swift wires and sells bitcoin, and doesn't have long identity verification process
If you don't want  that long identity hustle, the Localbitcoins should be good. Also buying it in bits rather than at once would also be a good option
5149  Other / Meta / Re: HELP ME GET MY ACCOUNT BACK [The return of IBGigglin] on: January 22, 2019, 09:06:16 AM
It's possible to recover it even without a staked address so long as you have an old email address linked to the account. I also did manage to recover mine without any staked address. The only difference is I did lock mine and you didn't lock yours, but I would still suggest you email them with the details. Make sure to be precise.

You can try and follow the steps I did to recover mine Hacked accounts recovery team is doing great, Don't just give up yet!
Goodluck!

5151  Other / Meta / Re: Stop staking your bitcoin address. That is not enough to recover your account. on: January 20, 2019, 01:16:40 PM
I just recovered my account a couple of days ago without even a staked address. All I had was the email I used to register it. To be honest I think the account recovery team is fair enough.
If you don't have access to the original Email address used for registering then you have lost the account too.

Hopefully this can also help curb account sales in some way

What I would love to be added on the registration process is the confirmation link sent to the email address you used for registration so that we also get to verify the email address because sometimes when one is registering, one could make a typo in the email address area and without that link sent to the inbox, one would not know that the email they used was wrongly spelt.

5152  Other / Meta / Re: Hacked accounts recovery team is doing great, Don't just give up yet! on: January 19, 2019, 05:14:53 PM
Did you find out what the hacker used it for? Did he use the forum at all while you didn't have access to it? Are there any personal information that he could have found out about you or people you know from the PMs for example? If so, make sure you protect yourself and inform anyone those who might or might not have been approached by the hacker.

I locked it out using the link that was sent to my email so the hacker did stand the chance of using the account or selling it. Luckily there was no sensitive information in my PMs  Wink
5153  Other / Meta / Re: Should trust be moderated? (Poll) on: January 19, 2019, 03:06:32 PM
This could put a lot more work on the Mods.
I would really like the trust system to be moderated though with the help of the community. it's one of the most important aspects of the forum since a number of trades are carried out here too.

A ''report to moderator'' button beside each trust summary comment would ease the work of the mods to either delete it if it's very inappropriate or even get the user banned if it's extreme.

Am really sick of seeing stupid abusive trust feedbacks with no reference
5154  Other / Meta / Hacked accounts recovery team is doing great, Don't just give up yet! on: January 19, 2019, 01:56:54 PM
After about 6 months on the sidelines, The bitcointalk accounts recovery team finally managed to help me recover my hacked account. I would really love to commend the team for the great job done  Smiley

When my account got hacked sometime in July last year alongside a number of other victims. I really had no hope that I would ever be recovered since I did not have the much-needed evidence which is a PGP or Bitcoin signature to prove the ownership of my account. All I had was the Email which I used for opening up the account which had since then been changed during the hacker and the Ether address that S/he didn't bother changing knowing that I would be useless.

Seeing even Hero and Legendary accounts that were waiting to be unblocked for a dozen months in vain and yet they had provided the signed messages for proof of ownership even made me feel more hopeless about my mission to recover my account.

However, when I saw this newly modified topic by Theymos Recovering hacked/lost accounts , I tried my luck.
I follow every instruction and some days later, my account was recovered.

Account recoveries are actually working and moving at a faster pace. Those who have signed Messages have a very high chance of getting their accounts recovered. All they have to do is to;
Quote
Email recoveries...@bitcointalk.org, ideally from the account's email address. Include your username and a brief description of the details of how/when the account was hacked. A signature will likely be required

The proof of ownership message can be similar to this

Quote
-----BEGIN BITCOIN SIGNED MESSAGE-----
My account <account> has been hacked/lost. Please reset the email to <email>. The current date is <date>.
-----BEGIN SIGNATURE-----
<insert address here>
<insert signature here>
-----END BITCOIN SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Here is the unedited post where I posted that address: ...

For those with no staked Bitcoin address or no bitcoin address associated with your account, Do not lose hope;

1. The first step is to try and send an email to recoveries...@bitcointalk.org, precisely describing when and how the account got hacked and not forgetting to include the account username. If possible you can also include screenshots showing emails you received when your password and email were changed.

2. After that, all you have to do is wait to be contacted by the team, Do not try to act impatient by sending so many emails
You will receive an email after some days with a unique link and please do exactly as told ( i received mine after roughly 12 days)

3. Once you are done with that successfully you will receive another email within hours confirming that your account has been queued for recovery

Quote
That's perfect. Thank you for the info.

The account has been queued for recovery using its old email address (this one). The recovery will be done automatically in 7 days.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get back to us.

4. Within the stated period as in the last email, you will receive another message informing you about the completion of manual recovery, should be something like this;

Quote
The email address of your account has now been updated, and the account is unlocked. You should now use the forgotten password option to reset your password. If you receive any errors regarding activation, restart your browser. If your account had been compromised, make sure you use a DIFFERENT password this time.

Regards,
The Bitcoin Forum Team

5. Resetting your password appropriately should be the last step towards gaining back ownership of your account.

Security is very important, Never take it so lightly... I learned a very big lesson through this hack. My mistake was using the same weak password for every website I would sign up for, Luckily my Gmail had 2FA, or else It would have been compromised too.
The hacker also tried to log into my Mega and Dropbox cloud storage accounts with the hope of probably gaining access to my private keys and any useful info, but again, luck was on my side... He was blocked from gaining access due to suspicious activity. All I received where email alerts.
I have since been so security conscious and paranoid.

I hope this helps someone out there who has no clue of how to recover his account or who his/her completely lost hope on recovering his/her account.

It gets worse when you use Tor browser... very tiring and annoying
I know that forum security is essential but some of us also value privacy... so something has to be done about this.

5157  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 524 timeout error everytime i try to search on he forum on: January 18, 2019, 04:28:11 PM
I encounter the same problem to after searching the first time. I think temporary solution should be you avoid in the search textbox shown on every page of the forum. Instead make of the main search page by clicking on the "search" link in top left corner, after "home" and "help" or this link https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=search you'd also get better search options on the page.
I did use the alternative search link too but still faced the same problem.
5158  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 524 timeout error everytime i try to search on he forum on: January 18, 2019, 04:18:52 PM
(Might also be a cause of slow Internet Connection)
Internet connection speed is okay... could be something else causing it.
I dunno whether using VPN also causes this error but lemme check it out

Edit: Disconnecting VPN yields no positive result
5159  Other / Beginners & Help / 524 timeout error every time i try to search through the forum on: January 18, 2019, 04:00:38 PM
When I try to search for something from the main search button of the forum, this keeps popping up

Does anyone know why it happens?
5160  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The cost of Copper Membership will raise considerably on: January 18, 2019, 08:49:18 AM
The evil fees (small fee which enables posting for those registered in blacklisted/banned IPs) will also increase in price.

Why would they increase the fees for unblocking banned IPs? it's not like anyone as a new registrant committed any foul. This will be so hard on the new genuine registrants who probably don't now what happened.

My account got hacked sometime in July last year so with no hope of recovering it, i tried opening up a new account only to receive a message that i could not post because i have to pay some fee to unblock the evil ip thingy... Seriously who does that to innocent or genuine new registrants?
I gave up, however low the fee was, i didn't even bother paying it. Had my account not been recovered, i wouldn't be here now. imagine how many others have avoid their new accounts because of that.

The culprits also know what they doing and will get new IP addresses and continue abusing the forum once the other ones are blacklisted. Something else has to be done to avoid losing out on new users with no bad intention but not just increasing the fee.
