We are still in the pre-announce stage but the design and location are taking shape.

We are shooting for a cost of around $5 million

Have you asked for a professional estimate of the cost of that project?

Building costs for a low rise office building (excluding furniture) in central US are about 150 $ per ft2 of floor area.  The central building in your project apparently has 3 floors, each with at least 100 x 100 ft2, i.e. some 30'000 ft2 total.  if it were built on land it would cost at least 4.5 M$.  Now consider how much more expensive it is to build something on a hurricane-swept platform at sea, far from any industrial port.

But OK, you may be aiming to build only one 5'000 ft2 platform, without the superstructure.  Even so, you may be underestimating the cost by an order of magnitude.

You may consider buying a second-hand outfit to begin with:

http://www.seasteading.org/2011/11/for-sale-well-maintained-20-room-platform-sale-panoramic-sea-views-and-a-heli/

EDIT: On the other hand, people who can afford an antigravity flying yacht can surely afford an apartment on a sea platform.  Cheesy

One of the partners is a developer who has done similar projects and is very active in the seasteading community. He has been working with the designer to come up with something within the goal.

We are not looking at US prices and labor costs. The initial floating platform costs were low but I am sure we will likely see many more costs when the Bahama government comes into the picture.

This looks interesting! More info on this?

We are still in the pre-announce stage but the design and location are taking shape.

We are shooting for a cost of around $5 million offering 50,000 shares of $100 each. The initial businesses on the platform will be part of the company and boat slips will be paid to the company with the profits going to the shareholders.

I sent a card to the CEO of my company thanking for all of his hard work which keeps me employed.

It's all about thanking the workers today.
Don't forget to thank the shareholders for putting up the capital invested in the business and giving you all a job.

Definitely, it takes a lot of work to keep track of the market and buy at the right time and risk to keep me employed.

And the American voter who votes for more taxes to give government more power so they can pay for the military which keeps me employed. Thanks for taxing the rich American voter!

Good labour relations are key to any well functioning capitalist society.

Is what the communists tell the people before they take over and terrorize a nation.
Have you looked into buying a used cruiseliner for your project?

Do you have a solution for jurisdiction issues?

The pilot project will likely be built in the Bahamas with permission from the Bahamas government. At this phase we are looking at a hybrid seastead to be built on columns in shallow water which floating platforms and boats can attach to.

More of a marina as a launching point.

One of the partners is working with the Bahama government, introducing it as a research project.

A used cruiseliner was what Project Blueseed tried. They also tried to do fund it via donations, we will be selling shares and be getting revenue from the marina businesses.

Will it be within in Bahamas territory?

What are the restrictions regarding jurisdiction then?

Have you considered dredging a sand bank in international waters?

How about buying/taking Sealand?

Sorry for all the questions, but even for a social liberalist this is quite fascinating.

The main location we are looking at is Cay Sal Bank just south of the Keys, north of Cuba within Bahamas territory.

More than likely the restrictions will be the same as living in the Bahamas. Our initial step is creating a viable business and creating a launching platform for seasteads as opposed to actually being a seastead so it is not about politics during this phase.

There are no sand banks in international waters. The best I have found during my search has been a sea mount that is 100 meters deep.

I doubt we could get much investment capital for Sealand. People want something in a warm climate.

More people need to start using bitwage.co to convert all or part of their paychecks to bitcoins.

We need a viable replacement for brawker.com. Possibly via OpenBazaar?

tldr version?

Bitcoin's problem is fiat. And people don't care because they want higher fiat prices.

I care about women in space.

Can they breath? The pressure? How did they get there?

5171  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Money Laundering? Has it gone too far? on: April 30, 2015, 03:56:24 PM
can anyone guide me why there are different rules in different countries about money laundring?

Different differentiations of power between the people and their governments.

Some people have been able to keep their government power in check. Others have lost control thanks to high taxes.

I am not sure that another jump like the rise to $1200 is in the cards.

The huge jumps in the past were based on the idea that we were going to reach critical mass.

I think we have reached it and the adoption rate is steady. We have had so much good news this past year that I can't see anything that would rally people to believe that the price will be several times higher than its current price.

Though I can see a price discovery point when the mining reward halves.

I have seen a large thrust in the US to get rid of any amount of being a man that they can find.

Every sitcom shows the man as a dope who just needs to get out of the way while the woman handles things.

The idea that a new industry can be dominated by capable men goes counter to the storyline and needs to be squashed.

I am so glad that it is a big world and not all women are American.

Collectivism. That's all it is.

It is about taking away the idea that we are individuals, but instead that we belong to some sort of "group". It serves the author's agenda to make people think of themselves as a collective. As long as they can put themselves into a high position among the collective by creating articles that bash those outside of the collective. Same thing is done with race, sexual preference, wealth, etc.

So the bear/bull fight comes down to whether we are hovering around the $220s or whether we are hovering around the $230s.

Quite the battle.

Calm down people.
This is hardly a reason to get too excited.
Not yet any way.

A midget gif is a valid response to a $10 jump.

It is a valid response to just about anything actually...

Basically if you're going to claim to do "serious data analysis" at least point out the reliability of the raw data and give proper credit to the creator of the charts.

Modern scientists do not use raw data, they use editorialised data that supports their conclusion.

Just look at the global warming myth.
5179  Economy / Speculation / Re: Stay away from bitcoin ! on: April 29, 2015, 10:38:11 AM
So how else am I supposed to convert my US dollar paycheck to pay for things here in Europe where I can get 10% in additional value when converting bitcoins to euros?

Should I just stick with the bank where they charge me a 3% conversion fee and $40 wire transfer fee?

Just because someone is being called names?
5180  Economy / Speculation / Re: They want to buy 5000 BTC for 350$ each! on: April 29, 2015, 10:32:37 AM

I don't get it, why would they offer 50% more than market value? and why wouldn't the market react to it?

Because it's a market that exists in its own little world. There's no parallel with the exchanges.

The shares that are for sale on there have been frozen for 12 months for some type of regulatory reason.

The people bidding on there are either too sensible, or not permitted to buy from any of the exchanges none of which are regulated or offer any protection or backup.

Finance professionals are not going to wire money to some Chinese person's personal bank account and hope the exchange doesn't go up in smoke before they get some coins.

There are also large institutions in play that cannot invest outside of that little world. This is their window into the Bitcoin world.
