time is already the currency.

think about it.

peoples sweat and work is what creates their wage, as they are paid at X per hour..
people trust fiat because its backed by the X per hour minimum wage, the basic fundamental lowest value of fiat that people know that a bank note is valued at.($10 bank note is worth 1hour 20 minutes minimal labour)

[snip]

what about the central banker who can print fiat at will?

also the interest you get from your banksavings is mainly related to base rate of the central banks

"If the bitcoin blockchain were a horse, ordinary hub-and-spoke payment channel proposals would be proposing to replace that horse with a truck; the Lightning guys are proposing to replace that horse with a rocket ship."  -- Peter Todd

Requires some more work and a soft fork to implement. The future looks bright Smiley

A leading candidate for testing the soft-fork on a sidechain perhaps.

Merge-mined sidechains require a fork too!  Cheesy

I guess a federated sidechain could do it.

wouldn't it be the easiest way to just create a bitcoin clone with it as proof of concept?

sidechains seems too much in the future

There are Time Banks in a lot of countries, it's essentially a voluntary network, it's pretty cool.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time-based_currency

this idea seems to be really neat for digital working, first time i heard about that concept and already fascinated

Quote
Some criticisms of time banking have focused on the time dollar's inadequacies as a form of currency and as a market information mechanism. Frank Fisher of MIT predicted in the 80s that such a currency "would lead to the kind of distortion of market forces which had crippled Russia's economy."[42] It is precisely the non-commercial, not-for-profit, noncontractual, and non-monetary value of time dollars which exempts them from taxation in the United States; were they to be used as a substitute for money, they would simply be another form of exchange.

Dr. Gill Seyfang's study of the Gorbals Time Bank—one of the few studies of time banking done by the academic community—listed several other non-theoretical problems with time banking. The first is the difficulty of communicating to potential members exactly what makes time banking different, or "getting people to understand the difference between Time Banking and traditional volunteering."[43] She also notes that there is no guarantee that every person's needs will be provided for by a Time Bank by dint of the fact that the supply of certain skills may be lacking in a community.[44]

One of the most stringent criticisms of Time Banking is its organizational sustainability. While some member-run Time Banks with relatively low overhead costs do exist,[38] others pay a staff to keep the organization running. This can be quite expensive for smaller organizations and without a long-term source of funding, they may fold.[45][46]

seems governments cant tax time-based currency? it will never work  Sad

Nothing ironic about it, The Guardian was one of the news outlets involved in the initial publication of the Snowden leaks...

Are you really defending the actions of this guy? He worked for the NSA and sold their intel to the media / Russia instead of changing the way the NSA is gathering information as an employee...

it happened by chance that i watched "Snowpiercer" (2013) yesterday.

reading through all these reports, seeing the atrocities which human beings are capable of again and again; it is hard to understand that it could be real, it was like i was watching a movie all over again.

just that the movie is called reality and their is no ending to it.
5188  Other / Politics & Society / US War Crimes on: March 25, 2015, 10:57:34 PM
I just read about the war crimes of "Tiger Force" which made me nearly puke in front of my pc.

how the fuck comes that these people never got prosecuted and are still living freely today?
how can it be that your fucked up government covers crimes against humanity and you people vote for them again and again?

the evidence is overwhelming and undisputed, i will just link you the sources and let you think about it yourself

This is the original report in 2003 released by reporters of the "Toledo Blade", Michael D. Sallah, Mitch Weiss, and Joe Mahr who won the Pulitzer Prize of investigative journalism for it:

The fact is that the testimony on war crimes presented by Vietnam Veterans Against the War in Detroit, Michigan, was read into the Congressional Record, spurred Congressional hearings into the conduct of the war in Vietnam, and echoed the conclusions of Brigadier General Telford Taylor, who prosecuted Nazi war criminals after World War II, that in Vietnam "we failed ourselves to learn the lessons we undertook to teach at Nuremberg, and that failure is today's American tragedy" (Nuremberg and Vietnam, 1970)
[...]
The Toledo Blade report on John Kerry and war crimes concluded: "Just one day after the end of the Winter Soldier Hearings, on a Kentucky army base, a sergeant told Army investigators about a rumor of a member of an elite paratrooper unit who had beheaded a Vietnamese baby four years earlier. That statement would launch the longest war crimes investigation of the Vietnam War, substantiate the longest-known series of atrocities by a battle unit in Vietnam, and lead to a case that would be concealed from the public for 36 years."

Well israel doesnt have to tell the world of their nuclear weapons because they are no members of the "Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons" (NPT).
Of all members of the United Nations only four didnt sign the treaty: India, Israel, Pakistan and South Sudan.

5190  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Scotland to ban smoking in cars with children on: March 25, 2015, 06:03:09 PM
Scotland is to ban smoking in cars with children, bringing it into line with forthcoming legislation in England and Wales to protect young people from secondhand smoke.

The Scottish government announced it would back the smoking prohibition (children in motor vehicles) (Scotland) bill, which has been put forward by the Liberal Democrat MSP Jim Hume.

The bill, which is hoped will receive royal assent before the next Holyrood elections in May 2016, covers all cars, although Hume acknowledged that as it progresses discussion may take place about exempting convertibles, when they have the roof fully down, to bring it into line with English laws.

“This legislation will ensure that we can put a stop to the 60,000 journeys being made in Scotland each week where children are being exposed to dangerous secondhand smoke,” he said.

Are they serious? Where is the freedom of choice to do whatever you want (but in the respect of the other people)? Can you say your opinion here? Thanks.

i bolded what i think is important for a possible answer.
we know for sure that smoking/cigarette smoke is bad for human beings especially for children.
the problem is now parents that smoke usually dont think about that and it becomes natural for the child to see and inhale smoke.

in essence if someone would ask you to stop smoking beside him/her you should stop but it just dont happen in reality.
i think this bill is really about the protection of children.

i think main problem in these nations are of economical and political reasons.
they also had civil wars that are not long back in history.

but nevertheless it is a good idea and the (additional) infrastructure needed for it is pretty cheap nowadays.

OP was just a troll.

He  neither have 1000 £ nor a wife with relatives in namibia.

There are solutions but he only bothered to point out what would not work.

How do you know that? Do you have some proofs or are your thought only a normal supposition? I also don't think he didn't (or will not) send money to Namibia.

its called logic and is quite obvious.

OP only points out options that doesnt work and ignores solution that are working and are cheaper.

No need to be a rocket scientist to see that.

OK, So I just sent £1000 of Bitcoin to a friend who is in Northern Namibia (just above South Africa).

He received the funds via an app on his phone - Mycelium..

The problem is we have no idea what to do now. Ideally he needs to transfer the btc to his local currency (NAD) or spend the bitcoin locally but noone there accepts bitcoin. How can we convert this money to something he can actually spend?

Thanks in advance.

I think that he should sell BTC and buy USD and then sell USD for NAD

you're late...
that was only an experiment. you should read everything before posting Wink

You should do the same Wink

5198  Other / Off-topic / Re: Weed or Alcohol? on: March 24, 2015, 06:29:31 PM
Weed is a lot less dangerous and less habit forming.

Smiley
Both are equally dangerous.

That's not true at all.

No-one has ever died from being "too high", yet many people have died from alcohol poisoning.

By decriminalizing weed the dangers associated with criminal elements disappears as well. When it comes to organized crime, you are just as likely to get hurt or killed if you are dealing with baby food as you are dealing with pot.

Marijuana has been demonized (for approx. the last 80 years) by the establishment (and friends) in order to suppress its medicinal (and textile) value in favor of other less abundant, therefore more controllable and profitable ones. Prior to this era, the medical community was enamored by it and preferred it over other medicines in use today, namely aspirin.

The moment this thing hits the streets, I can already imagine people being high all the time, too high to being productive, too high to run cities, too high to drive. This will blow up in people's faces.

People will tell you to just try it, it's no longer illegal, you take a whiff and your money will be going to getting that whiff again.

this statement couldnt be more false. look at the netherlands!

also alot of nations are already starting to legalize it for medical use and it wont take long until they follow the netherlands
