they can open a 51 attack any time they want.

I would agree with you if 'they' was a single entity, rather than the most populous country on the face of the earth -- or even a half-dozen decision makers running a half-dozen pools, which each aggregate the hashpower of multitudinous hashers, all in competition with each other over solving the next block.

But as it stands, there is no singular 'they', so no 51% attack.
5182  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: NOT Upgrading to SegWit who's with me?! on: December 30, 2016, 03:44:07 AM
Just read through the recent article on the Bitcoin Classic (Segwit vs. Flexible Transactions)
I'd love to. Can you provide a link?
Apologies for the late response. This time of the year there is a lot of work to be done in several aspects.

Understood. No apologies necessary.

Here's the article: https://bitcoinclassic.com/devel/FlexTrans-vs-SegWit.html . Keep in mind that it has been updated at least once to correct some obvious mistakes that it had.

Has it changed so much that your rebuttal points no linger have anything to do with the paper's content? I see nothing therein about Garzik, nor are your two quotes to be found anywhere therein.

Perhaps you meant to link elsewhere?
5183  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am pretty confident we are the new wealthy elite, gentlemen. on: December 29, 2016, 08:12:42 PM
Well, experts say that the bubbles happens only once.

You are obviously putting excessive trust in the wrong 'experts'. Bitcoin has _already_ experienced several bubbles. You can't meaningfully apply lessons learned from the stock market to Bitcoin - cryptocurrencies are an entirely new asset class. Their existence -- and consequently their behaviors -- are entirely without precedent.

Buy the dip now and get ready to take off to a whole new level ?
Technically imo we headed below 400.. but maybe big buyers present.. soon as euphoria is over id like to see alts rise with bitcoin thats when i know it will be the big one...

Disclosure i have over 20 yrs experience trading equities and forex. You get a feel for swings and movements.

Yeah... you get the feeling that you want to denigrate bitcoin because you want to pump your stupid-ass alt in the wrong thread..

get your ass over to the alts section with other pump and dump distractors
Anyone that knows me will tell you ive been saying it for a while now.. no.worries mate... thought a xmas gift giving would cheer.ya up...maybe one day you will also be in a position to give.back.... perhaps not with that attitude

JJG's got a valid point. The mods have so far let you slide with your altcoin pumping in this Bitcoin thread. I'm sure they'll delete it when they notice. So thanks for the xmas present. Now vamoose back to the dank corner of this site where altpumpage is on-topic.

And happy holidays to you too.

Mainstream media are hyping Bitcoin as a store of value

Cool! Links?

On 28th December, China’s Premier Li Keqiang signed the Initiative of  China’s Information Technology Application, which is part of the 13th Five-Year-Plan for Social and Economic Development of China. Blockchain technology has been officially listed in the initiative. The five-year-plan is the most import national strategic guideline for China’s social and economic development. The 13th Five-Year-Plan sets the tone for China’s development for the period from 2016-2020.

5187  Bitcoin / Meetups / Re: announcement: the international "when-bitcoin-reaches 1000,- $ party" on: December 29, 2016, 02:55:12 AM
If btc can stay over $1,000 for six months into 2017 I think it is.

From the OP:

timing/trigger
our current plan is to play it this way: everything should get armed and ready to rumble within the next coming weeks and months. as soon bitcoin reaches 1000 $ and stays there for 30 days in a row (bitstamp $ 24 h average) this will be our trigger. since everything has been set up during the waiting period, after ignition triggers we will only need 6 -8 additonal weeks to actually unleash this monster.

Except 600watt and crew sunk a bunch of time effort and money into planning this the first time around, and had to abort at great expense. I think it is up to some other interested party to take up the mantle and run with it.

5189  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Roger Ver wants faster block times, Segwit & LightingNetwork on: December 28, 2016, 06:30:00 AM
in order to raise the blocksize we first need to adopt segwit to do it properly

Naked assertion unsupported by evidence. Show your work.

then we would have LN working properly

No. The SegWit Omnibus Changeset is a not-quite-necessary, yet still insufficient criteria as a precursor to LN.
5190  Economy / Speculation / Re: when do you think this rise is going to slow down/stop? on: December 28, 2016, 06:20:32 AM
when Bitcoin crushed the gold price.

The only sensible way to compare BTC price and XAU price is by market cap. At today's gold price, that would be about a half-million federal reserve notes per BTC.

Somehow, I don't think this is what you meant. But equating the unit price of completely arbitrary quantities of two radically different instruments is meaningless.
5191  Economy / Speculation / Re: when do you think this rise is going to slow down/stop? on: December 28, 2016, 06:16:51 AM
The price rice will stop after the huge mega panic FOMO buy-in spike.

didn't the FOMO already happen with the $100+ rise in a couple of days which happeneded recently?

No. Nobody except hardened bitcoiners noticed this rise. There is a lag -- especially during holiday -- for the news to propagate to major markets. Two weeks, then FOMO.
5192  Economy / Speculation / Re: RALLY!!! on: December 28, 2016, 06:14:12 AM
$928 on BitStamp! Just like the good old days!

What is this vile yet feeble sorcery? You are attempting to hex us with the foul visage of the one known as 'shavers'?

Begone, dank creature - your magic has no power here.

Oh.... waitaminnit....

Get new wife plz... and buy exotic island on a lake that is on the top of a mountain that is on top of a lake... Cheesy

Who's that? Looks like Peter Garrett? I don't get the relevance.

Naaah - I'm keeping her.
5194  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 28, 2016, 04:45:46 AM
I'm reading all these posts to my wife and explaining what's happening. Guess what? She's shows no interest as usual just like the general public.

I suppose she is sick of listening to it all from me for the past few years.

My wife's reply: "It's all monopoly money to me".

I want to keep it all quiet but I can't help it. It's either I tell her all about it or she'll think I am having an affair the amount I check my phone. The battery doesn't last long during pumps.

Oh, she knows. So far, she's been happy to let me HODL. Let's just say we are both guardedly optimistic about our retirement years.

Problem is, she'll act all indifferent and "it's only monopoly money" until a surprise divorce comes. Then she'll want her cut of the $$$ millions.

Disclose accordingly...

Naah - We've been through thick & thin for decades. I trust her implicitly. Besides, the only way she gets the keys is if I'm dead.

I'm prepared to purchase more of bitcoins for $800, but not for more than that.

Best of luck - you may end up crying with a big pile of stinky fiat in your hand as the price moons.

I'm not so sure about having the gold in an ETF TBH, though it has been giving good returns. Just a bit worried about their solvency long term. Just seems better than holding physical gold, for various reasons.

I hope you are already aware that there is nowhere near enough actual gold in the world to redeem each unit of 'paper gold'.

Some want unlimited blocks

Who are these people? Can you point to any? Is it possible your 'extensive research' somehow missed what the 'Unlimited' in 'Bitcoin Unlimited' actually means?
