I managed to find the source code of some Indium v1.0.1, here: https://git.mine2.live/Indium/IndiumAnd I have sucessfully "git-clone" of this repo, and sucessfully compiled this on Ubuntu WSL, on Windows 10 Pro. Binaries is working too, but Miner.exe, and ./Miner not working on Windows and Linux too. This miners allow to generate the blocks, and confirm the transasactions, even in LAN, but miner's reward do not credited to the specified address. Maybe someone can find the differences between this source code, and the source code of previous versions (I have this backuped too). Also, maybe someone can fix the miners. The blockchain of Indium v1.0.1 have backward compatibility with Indium v1.0.0, so all coins of previous miners and holders, was been saved (except the coins, "mined" with Miner.exe or ./Miner, this coins are lost.) I don't buy coins. I buy businesses and assets in their many forms, of which coins are not one of them. Property, gemstones, precious metals etc.
The term 'DEAD" has been adopted by the millions when a coins chain is sitting still and NO ONE has the gall to restart it. I know, I have one of those coins we are resurrecting. RESURRECTING, which means 'bring back from the dead'. So please don't start with me on semantics.

So all good in any case. I do believe you are on the right track though, but convincing developers to do this without any 'real' exchange of effort for payment will be a hard sell. I know - I have been doing this for over 9 years now.

What does "restart" mean? Blockchain was created to prevent double spending. Any restart of the mining process means a fork in the chain, which means the cancellation of transactions, the disappearance of coins that were mined at a short fork in the chain, and the possibility of double spending of old coins, at these both forks. This is unacceptable, because it contradicts the very idea of blockchain, as a technology to eliminate double spending. Thus, in order to maintain the coin, it is necessary to continue the generally accepted and canonical blockchain of the mainnet, and not to do any restart of mining. Otherwise, it's a initialization of the scams. If the blockchain of a coin has stopped, it does not mean that the coin is dead. This means that no one wants to transfer coins and generate blocks to confirm their transactions. In any case, it can be done locally, and the coin can work locally anywhere on the planet, after connecting only two peers, and after generating several blocks. And no one will see the movement of the blockchain, despite the fact that this movement is. When a coin is removed from pools and exchanges, and the addnode lists are removed, this makes the blockchain-moving unobservable. Thus, it seems to me that your definition of "DEAD" is not correct. You are talking about receiving some kind of help, and that you did not receive this help. What kind of help do you want to get, did you ask for it? To raise the coin, need to create nodes, publish addnode-lists, sync nodes, and do mining the coin, to confirm the transactions of transfer this coins. |

I understand all that you have mentioned ... I am no newbie here mate  I am just not interested in the slightest in 'buying' anything that comes with the encumberment of a dead coin. I have a few of those that we are revamping and reviivng now to integrate into our own Master Coin (codeNamed CoinX currently). What Ihave been interested in is how to help here. That is all. I would not pay 100BTC for the likes of GEERT in a million years, regardless of 'profit'. I (and my Company) have NEVER been in interested in 'profit' as it negates the mere existence of Crypto by focusing on that one part. I assure you I am not interested in buying anything to do with GEERT, especially at 100BTC unless it is to add more property to our portfolio we have been currently building here at CWI.
I merely asked because there is a possibility I would have looked at helping here since our developers are building a template for OUR coins, and could easily be adapted to GEERT (or any coin for that matter).
This is a coin that (like many) have been abandoned and are in no shape to be resurrected unless the community get behind it. You seem to be one of very few that want to see this coin developed, and unfortunately that is not enough for developers to invest countless hours redeveloping this code as well as fixing any future issues.
There may be some value later IF there are developers to take it on, but honestly, it will take a lot to get this running again. Which is unfortunate, because the state of the coin is disastrous at the moment.
What do you think is the best way to move forward with a coin whose blockchain has not moved for over a year?

Moving the blockchain when no one wants to mine is a problem.
I think, on 1 core CPU, using miner with sCrypt-algorithm, or using the console-command setgenerate true genproclimit there is possible to do mining next few blocks, to confirm the transactions. This is possible, after connect just two peers, and I can raise the node, if needed. This is the main property of decentralized main networks of the all coins. Just connect two peers, do mining, and confirm the transactions, and coin is alive again. If noone do not want to do mining, and mining difficulty is so high, then, there is possible to rent hash-power, on miningrigrentals.com, just to confirm transactions. Or use USB sCrypt-ASICS... As variant, there is possible to using merged-mining with litecoins/dogecoins, etc... But in this case, mining difficulty can growing up so much. Anyway, even in this case, anyone can rewind the blockchain, up to block with lower mining difficulty, and continue to do mining from this block, and do mining the longer chain, to override the chain, that have a shorter blockchain-height. In this case, of course, you will have to negotiate and pay compensation for redefining the chain. By this ways, GEERTCOIN can be alive, transactions can be confirmed, and mainnet can working for a long time. Yes, I know many coins on the sCrypt algorithm can be listed on various pools and exchanges, without any backward compatibility issues. They are easy to connect and also easy to disconnect. The latter phenomenon is the main problem of GeertCoin. It was simply removed from all exchanges and pools, and trading was stopped. In order to implement Proof-Of-Stake, there is enougth to copy and paste the code from already existing coins, that is open source. It's not countless hours, but it can only be done by a qualified programmer who can compile a new wallet. And I can pay GEERTCOIN for him. Therefore, an endless Proof-Of-Stake with 0% block-reward could solve this problem, just because, mining need to confirm transactions, and according Proof-Of-Stake consensus, who own the coins, they can confirm their transactions, themself, by generating new blocks in blockchain. And to prevent double spending, in the absence of synchronization, and without active connections, anyone can simply download the file with the current blockchain, and sign it with a hash - the recipient's private key, and post the link of this file, here, for example. NameCoin have the mining difficulty and network-hashrate almost as Bitcoin, and cost $0.57. It seems, like real price, economically justified price for bitcoin is ~$1-2, because of this. It should be noted that Namecoin is "merge mined" with Bitcoin. This means the Bitcoin miners secure the Namecoin network and use no more electricity or work than they would just mining Bitcoin alone. Hope that helps... Namecoin is still a great buy though IMO. If namecoin mining is profitable for miners, and if miners prefer to do mining NameCoin better than just buy this, this means miners so poor, to do not let themself to buy NMC, and because of this, keeping hashrate of bitcoin is not so hard, using just a corresponding investments, like in already exists in this NMC, or that ETH. |
