521  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Stupid reasons for getting banned on BTC-E!!! what's yours? on: February 28, 2014, 12:22:52 PM
They banned me in August 2013 for 100,000 minutes I think it was ("You has been banned!") for discussing the problems I had withdrawing BTC. It was delayed for 2 days and support was no help so I warned others.

Ok I'll put that down as reason number 3.

The mods are unpaid because some people value kudos and perceived authority more than money.

This sounds like an opinion but if you have evidence of this I'd love to see it. The impression I have is that they are too lazy and do not consider the troll box an important part of the exchange. Worse, the people they have put in charge of looking after the chat room ban people who voice their concerns about the site.

But hey I'm back and despite everything it's the only place to trade. No, I don't take Cryptsy seriously.

Sounds like madness to me. At least Big Vern seems interested in actively developing and improving his site. The US$ is overrated anyway, if I had to pick an exchange I'd much rather trade on Cryptsy.

Although their owners are anonymous and this is a major misgiving I have about them, I'm there for better or worse.

I hope you will reconsider your own arguments Smiley but best of luck where ever you decide to trade

522  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: bitcoinity.org/markets - live bitcoin price charts on: February 28, 2014, 09:33:31 AM
There was some discussion today that started around here: http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/1yj5b5/unverified_pastebin_gmaxwell_irc_log_mtgox_was/cfkze3p and here's some more explanation: https://iwilcox.me.uk/v/nofrac

TL;DR exchanges can prove that:

  • they own specific amount of bitcoins
  • and that your bitcoins on their exchange are included in this amount

But they are not doing this yet. I'd like to do something towards changing this.

I'll give a shout out on Bitcoinity to the first exchange that implements it, and it will be displayed for a week under the page title (where sponsors are displayed). Another 3 weeks are going to the first exchange that implements it with volume over 1k BTC over the last 30 days. Exchange must include BTC/USD pair and it's not relevant whether it's currently listed on Bitcoinity or not (although it must provide full API - list of latest trades and orderbook).

I'm considering sorting exchanges not only by volume, but first including those that provide such proof if the idea works out.

edit: to clarify, it does not have to use this specific implementation, as long as the one that it uses works as a proof

I used to think btc-e was a serious exchange. EMPTY GOX went from serious business to laughing stock because of poor communication and bad management. I see the writing on the wall at btc-e, since their PR consists of unpaid mods that are banning people they don't like for reasons that make no sense, It's time to find an exchange that takes their communication seriously.

If btc-e takes this offer seriously, I'd consider staying, but at this time I've already pulled 90% of my funds out of that exchange and am in the process of pulling the rest of it.

If you've been the victim of a ban that made no sense, then you might sympathize with me.

523  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Stupid reasons for getting banned on BTC-E!!! what's yours? on: February 27, 2014, 01:21:05 AM
I've seen people banned for mentioning Doge lol

Yes I've also been banned for mentioning DOGEcoin, I would have been surprised if this was not on the list very quickly, it's fitting that it's second.

Why does it matter if you are banned?  You just make another account.  No harm/no foul.

Interesting point of view, personally I don't think poor communication will be solved by me making new accounts. Once I have my coins out of there I'll feel a lot safer. Add to that the new rule they made some time ago for a minimum balance to chat, I don't know what it is but I guess I'm going to find out Smiley
524  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Stupid reasons for getting banned on BTC-E!!! what's yours? on: February 26, 2014, 02:40:22 PM
Tolerance is one of the hallmarks of the crypto community
It would be sad if that became a casualty of mass adoption

Yes, I remember the days when we used to be able to tolerate flame wars in the troll box, and pull faces at each other... sadly the numbers of people on there did make that impossible. I can understand banning troll faces and dick pictures... the reasons started of sensible enough, then they just got progressively more and more stupid.

A scary reminder of EMPTY GOX :O
525  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Stupid reasons for getting banned on BTC-E!!! what's yours? on: February 26, 2014, 02:28:21 PM
You continued to press on despite repeated warnings from the mods.

Nice one you rebel

See you in 998 Days

Haha, thanks Smiley I am trying very hard not to mention the unmentionable, and not to "discuss the actions of moderators". It's quite a difficult combination when the moderators themselves have become the trolls. It seems they think they can force us to respect them, they will learn that respect is earned when the banhammers are taken away from them and they have to go back out into the real world.

I won't be back in 998 days though, my money will all well and trully be out by then unless i see some miraculous change, the btc-e troll box that I used to love has longs since been lost in a sea of "yes" men and "do-gooders" who can't see past the end of their noses.

I suspect that in 998 days btc-e will be out of business unless they work on a new business model, the way they currently store the coins will become obsolete as we learn new and better ways of doing business. Sadly btc-e is not interested in being part of the discussion.

527  Economy / Service Discussion / Stupid reasons for getting banned on BTC-E!!! what's yours? on: February 26, 2014, 01:18:23 PM
The Stupid reasons for getting banned on BTC-E have gotten so ridiculous that I decided to start this thread and see if as a community we could expose the mods for their poor judgement and bad behavior.

Please share any stupid reason that you feel you were banned for and explain why you think it's illogical, bad behavior or just poor judgement. (dates are good too but not required)

I will start by saying,

I just got banned for talking about MtGox. I mean apparently everyone else was talking about it and I was just unlucky, but I'm not in the troll box 24/7, I actually have a life outside of the troll box.

That being said, the bans don't mean much to me, I started pulling my money out when they started banning people for talking about competing and unlisted currencies. Any exchange that stifles informative discussion about new technology and then bans people for talking about one of the biggest events in cryptocurrency history has lost any sense of legitimacy.

So, What did you get banned for?

edit, ok so to get an actually number i'll try to add each of your reasons at the top by editing here and listing each of them separately, all coins will count as a separate reason so if you were banned for mentioning a particular coin it will be listed as one reason.

btc-e mods ban people for talking about:

1. EMPTY GOX, MT Gox, Mount Gox etc on the 26th of February when it was the biggest event in cryptocurrency news
2. DOGEcoin. Well this is no surprise. I'd try to list a date but it seems every man and his DOGE has been banned for this one
3. Problems withdrawing BTC, April 2013, 100000 minute ban

Edit 3/3/2014

Well Today I've removed ALL my coins from btc-e. I knew poor communication was a reflection of poor management at Mt Gox 2 years ago, and sadly btc-e has gotten to the point where the communication of those representing btc-e has gotten to the most ridiculous levels.

Today I witnessed double standards of the most outrages proportions. A moderator that bans people for swearing says. "my anus hurts" and then continues to blatantly abuse his privilege of being able to avoid the time restriction placed on everyone else to spam the room with his bored suggestion that he ban himself because he's so bored. I don't know how they've managed to reduce the discussion to a moderators and ass lickers love fest in just over 12 months but the incompetence on a communication front for the exchange is staggering.

I removed all my bitcoins except 0.1 thinking that would be enough so that I could still chat there. (I did plan to say goodbye.) When I tried to say goodbye I got a message saying I needed $47 to chat... well I could have converted the last 0.1 bitcoins to $57 but i just thought bugger it. I would have trusted them with 0.1btc... at least it might have been worth something when I come back in 3 years... but I don't really expect btc-e to be there anyway...

Thanks for the coins btc-e, the last too years has been fun. When you introduce a ./disablemods feature I may be back. Bye and good luck y'all (this was to be my goodbye message, this will have to do)
528  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: btc-e chatroom politics on: February 13, 2014, 10:10:00 AM
The trollbox is really entertaining. Makes trading a lot more fun. Also it is a good source of recent news. Not all conversations are fully 100% retarded.

I can't see ANY recent news that is relevant anymore. Every time someone tries to talk about some new crypto, (which I consider news) they get banned. I mean, we can't even ask, "so what algo is DOGE?" without getting banned... I mean, how can anyone support that kind of  banning of legitimate crypto discussion while allowing people to talk about effing their gay buddies?

I don't think I've seen ANY recent news there since the whole troll box was begging for XPM... we got it too... but now you try begging for a new currency and you just get banned, so no one is going to talk about the latest and greatest on btc-e, it's all down hill from here I'm afraid.
529  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: btc-e chatroom politics on: February 05, 2014, 08:13:06 PM
Since they banned people for mentioning DOGe, I rarely speak there. It is stupid and unprofessional to ban. It happens when kids get too much power.

Thanks, it's nice to know someone else sees it as unprofessional

531  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Colossuscoin has vanished from Cryptsy? on: February 04, 2014, 01:19:30 PM
more than likely a problem with there wallet syncing... it should come back up
532  Economy / Service Discussion / btc-e chatroom politics on: February 04, 2014, 06:05:26 AM
I want to share with others why the btc-e chatroom has gone from being my go to place for news about new crypto coins and technology to being a paranoid freak show with "mods" who arbitrarily ban people for chatting about coins not listed on their exchange, but still talk about other coins themselves and can't see the hypocrisy. (or think we are too dum to notice)

I found out about XPM before it was listed on btc-e, the mods didn't like having everyone begging for it to be listed but at least there where no bans back then, eventually it was listed!!!

If your going to ban topics, wouldn't it make more sense to ban people for discussing religion? or politics? but then again, what if they are all connected and it really doesn't make sense to ban anything. Even swearing is arbitrary isn't it? Jesus/ChristCoin or Liberal/LaborCoin could be banned, but that's not going to stop a true Crypto

Anyway, for the purpose of educating myself and the community on what others think in this regard, I've organized a small poll for those interested in sharing their opinion.

personally I have banned for a week by a mod who continually shows that the power to ban people has gone to his head, he sounded like he was threatening me (he assured me he wasn't but it's too late now). I feel a lot lest trust in this site, I am afraid if they can arbitrarily ban people from speaking then what's to stop them from arbitrarily stopping people from trading?

I've been a long time customer of btc-e, but I just don't trust them anymore.

Feel free to share your own opinions about the mods in this thread, but lets try to keep it civil.

edit.

As I watch the discussion I've been taking some notes,

Things you can say on btc-e that won't get you banned

syphilis

stop playing with your dicks boys

i made all this fuqing money

checking my pinus now.....ahhh I have syphilis

"ponzi scheme"

Things you will be banned for mentioning,

DGC, PTS, DOGE, Crypsty is better, BTE

Why can't we talk about coins not listed here?

one of the worst trading systems i have ever seen xd

the charts here suck

when will you improve the stats here?

I'll try to add things as we go... feel free to add your own experiences Smiley
533  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PRE-ANN][MAX] MaxCoin on: January 29, 2014, 04:05:11 PM
Since you mined the Genesis Block live on the air, what proof do we have that you or even Max Keiser are not pre-mining the shit out of MaxCoin this moment?  Do you have a block explorer online so that we can keep an eye on the blockchain and make sure you are actually honest?  This launch is not transparent. You are behaving in a shady and un-trustworthy fashion. And your glaring arrogance and failure to address this community in a humble and forthright manner leads me to believe that you can in no way be trusted.

The Keiser report 'live' launch failed... Did anyone notice the major boo boo during the 'Live' 'Maxcoin' Launch?

After the big build up announcing they were going to launch the coin live on air and record the actual moment that the MAXCOIN genesis block was created... the camera man zoomed in over the shoulder of the guy who was at the controls to catch the computer screen in close-up (see screen grab below)... and instead of the genesis block being created the Message on screen clearly stated:

So the Genesis Block was never actually created on the show... so no pre-mining is currently being done as suggested above... these guys are trying their best to create a level playing field for everyone... but has the botnet issue been addressed yet?

Obviously neither of these people bothered to read the OP lol
534  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PRE-ANN][MAX] MaxCoin on: January 29, 2014, 03:56:39 PM

At block 200 the Kimoto Gravity Well implementation will take over the retargeting. You can read more about KGW and it's benefits against pool hopping issues (such as coins stuck in high difficulty) here.

This link doesn't work? can you fix it please? I'm rather keen to learn more about this coin. It sounds very interesting, I will watch with interest and have a go at mining. Thanks
535  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [**OMG**] Welfare Coin [**stupid eye catching spam title CLICK ME! BEST TOPIC!*] on: January 24, 2014, 01:12:33 PM
The nice thing about freedom is that you can allow people to implement ideas you think are stupid and let them fall or rise on their merits. I expect "welfare" coin would fail miserably but I would be interested to see you try it. I wouldn't expect it to work (I wouldn't really want it to work either, to me it's just like a postmine instead of a premine, of course some premine coins have proven successful so you just never know.)

I wish you luck and will watch with interest.
536  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] profit switching auto-exchanging pool - middlecoin.com on: January 23, 2014, 12:29:25 PM
Hi h2odysee, love your pool.

I'm currently have my miner pointed at middlecoin.com but I would like to participate in the Beta and see if connecting to the asia.middlecoin.com server is any faster. (I'm in Australia) My problem is I don't know how to add a "fall over" server?

This is my current .bad file, can you help me to correct it so it points the the beta asian server first and falls over to the normal one? thanks.

cgminer --scrypt -o http://middlecoin.com:3333 -u 1OfMyManyBTCAddresses -p x

Thanks in advance to anyone who finds the time to help out Smiley hope my question is helpful for someone else too
537  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Mining Rig for the newbie on: December 24, 2013, 04:46:02 PM
I think it's hard to go past cloud mining here

https://cex.io/r/1/viscera/0/  (My referal link for cex.io, let me know if you use my referral link and I'll be sure to find some appropriate way to thank you)

The cost is similar but the set up time is NIL and the returns are similar to having your own machine + the resale value is better than traditional "Hardware". Although my resale value could go down, there's even a small chance my resale could be similar to my buy price depending on my time frame.

I've seen some people giving horror stories about cloud mining at cex.io (using the referral link is appreciated thanks) so I would clarify that I think you need to have a minimum GHS of at least around 50 to be sure it's going to pay off, smaller amounts may be eaten up by the maintenance costs (electricity etc)

I will disclose the obvious, I will get paid for referrals if you sign up, I can honestly say I would recommend them anyway. They've been around for a while now too, developing a good track record.

538  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: BTC-e.com $US codes for cash amounts from $1000 Perth Only on: December 10, 2013, 01:06:53 PM
whats satoshi dear?

A "Satoshi" is the smallest denomination of BTC. The amount may not seem significant to some but to those who respect the sentiment it is just meant a show of gratitude.

Of course depending on the circumstances and the size of the referral I may be able to give more. If BTC is still new to you you may not have many contacts or be in a position to help. Thanks for your question though and good luck in your future.
539  Economy / Currency exchange / BTC-e.com $US codes for cash amounts from $1000 Perth Only on: December 10, 2013, 09:25:04 AM
I'm willing to exchange BTC-e codes for $US dollar amounts between $1000 and $5000. May trade for Gold or Australian Dollars. Perth only. PM me for more details or to arrange an exchange.

Please feel free to share this around and I might be able to reward you with a few satoshi's if you responsible for a successful referral.

Thanks for reading.
540  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: URGENT!!! Bitcoin 0.8.5 NOT SYNCRONISING!!! on: November 24, 2013, 07:11:00 AM
I'm now 36 hours behind and still no signs of catching up despite having connections to 8 peers

well, it's better to be connected to one peer when downloading the blockchain

since many peers either have limited upstream & some are just BS (like the 129.132 set)

Ah that's interesting, should I delete some peers then? how would I do that?

I'm now 37 hours behind and still at block 270914. I've tried restarting my computer, also I've now got it downloaded on another computer succesfully so it's obviously something to do with this one computer, can I use my back up keys to add the funds to a different wallet?

Would the bitcoin QT conflict with any other wallet programs? I've got LTC, FTC, XPM and PPC all on the same computer?

Thanks
