Hi everyone (waves) missing you all!  LOL

I've currently got a small buy order for DRK on Prelude. Has anyone used the USD/DRK or USD/BTC features yet? I was considering using it to buy but I'm a little unsure if it's available yet.

I tried logging in, but it didn't work, then tried changing my password, and it still didn't work.  They could find my email, to send change password message, but tried it twice and I couldn't log on.  I made my account when they first announced, but I just can't get back in Sad

I have a question for Evan / whoever: Does running a masternode consume the available pool of pre-generated 100 addresses, necessitating regular backups of the masternode's wallet?

I am not sure where I read it, but I remember Evan saying no, it does not.

The founder of Litecoin confirms that switching away from Scrypt to avoid ASICs is the best option, but it comes with risks.

He posted this today on reddit

You're reading that wrong.
He's stating dogecoin switching away is the best outcome for litecoin.

He is very concerned about ASICs centralizing Litecoin and leading to 51% attacks. There are many Bitcoin people who don't like Litecoin and would love to see it dead.

There are many bitcoin people who don't like any coin, any competition.  But I ask you, would there be improvements like there has been if there was no competition?  Would we have better coins than Litecoin and Bitcoin if it weren't for alts.  Those two are still simple, no real innovation in a long time - over the hill - coins.

When you have something, you don't want competition but competition is the healthiest thing in the world.  So too bad.

That goes for Darkcoin as well.  You do get a lot of perks for being the first, but if you don't keep up/and ahead of the competition, you die.  That's why the developer is so important.  Evan is amazing and he won't be stopping with privacy, there is so much more planned, and he has a "we can do it" attitude and has proved he can indeed do it!

Hi,

I downloaded the latest wallet but it doesn't sync, anybody could help me?

Are there nodes availables?

Thx

Yes nodes are available.
DNS seed and static ip seed.

What is your os ?

Removing peers.dat might be help.

Windows 8.1 x64

I removed peers.dat but still not syncs.

Anyone could give me some nodes?

1. which version of the wallet do you have?  Beta or regular?
2  Either way, if you didn't "just" download, it might be a slightly older version, which wouldn't sync.  If you get the one that should be linked right now, it should work.  Also, use only addnode= in config, no connect= because that's been causing trouble.

BTW, fix didn't get a new version number

do i need a seperate computer for a masternode or i could use my work desktop?

Remember, you're going to have 1000 coins sitting there, you want it secure.

There sure are an increasing number of GWs nowadays. I've been seeing NGW and just now saw VGW. lol Evan started a trend with DGW.

Are they using Evan's code and giving it another name?  Is that kosher?

My darkcoin-qt wallet is stuck on a block 3 days ago and is refusing to update past there. I have tried deleting the blockchain and re-downloading it but it didn't work. I believe I have the latest wallet 0.9.1.2

Please re-download the wallet, there has been an update, though the version number wasn't changed (I think)

btw. I don`t even think if he comes back to see if there is the response on his question...

He does.

But the community has chained him to his keyboard and given strict instructions to finish DarkSend.

He is so focused on making you rich that even his family has filed a missing persons report.

anyone here heard about the instamine of 2m darkcoin ? i didn't understand it well, if some of the dev of this coin could explain this stupid story
i am holding about 10k dark and i hope this story isn't true ....

The 2 million I think you are referring to was a misunderstanding. The dev proposed that what if hypothetically, at some point in the future, there would be a 2 million DRK block mined to his wallet, which he would then distribute to people. Then someone who apparently couldn't read English properly, thought that the dev wrote that he already had (pre)mined 2 million, and started spreading his interpretation as the truth. The proposition was quickly rejected by the community btw.

No no, I mean yes, mistake last weekend asking if people would be happy if we did an airdrop, but it wasn't thought out, and kind of put out there when Evan came up for air (probably deep underwater coding, 'cause Monday was a big beta release with lots of updates)  Then all hell broke loose and Evan killed that thought when he realized it was a bad idea.

But the instamine is true.  There was a mistake in the code that was repaired within a day or so but nobody realized until a block explorer was made, how bad a leak it was.  At that point, it was about a week into mining, and there was no going back.  Turns out, IMO, that it was a good thing.  Big holders have sold off their coin, which made for even better distribution to future users of this coin, as people who don't mine were able to buy Darkcoin cheaply even to this day.  Face it, after the instamine was discovered, nobody wanted to hold on to the coin, they thought it was dead!  But Evan's innovations and constant support for us and the coin kept interest going, then it started to become apparent that he really knew what he was doing, and one-two-three improvements were made so quickly!  Well, first the X-11 algorithm, which turned out to run so cool, then KGW had some loop holes, so Evan wrote a different way to protect against large fluctuations in mining difficulty, from scratch, in less than a day, if I remember correctly.  It was better and he called it Dark Gravity Wave, which was really how it worked, like a wave, smoothing out the bumps.  And finally, he came through, quite quickly, with the anonymity feature he named DarkSend.

He is an amazing thinker and coder.  Last week, when he had that epic conversation with Anonymint, coming up with new ideas and ways to make DarkSend better, he implemented the foundation of the whole thing over the weekend and Monday, we had a new DarkSend!  This guy's not just amazingly good, he is a DO'ER.  Seriously, one in a million.

He's also an honest and I think rather simple person from what I've seen.  Likes to engage the community to a fault, and who else out there puts their name out there for their coin?  I don't think he ever even thought about using a pseudonym.  Probably never occurred to him.

So yes there were hiccups, but those hiccups have turned into assets (great distribution) and the coin is chugging along really well because it's frankly, the best coin out there.  Far better than Bitcoin, however it could never have happened without Bitcoin.  Bitcoin is the Father/Grandfather of all coins.  But soon, Darkcoin will be the coin on everyone's lips  Cheesy  Wink

who is the dev ? Who is behind Darkcoin ?

Evan Duffield and Sauron.
This is one of the very few coins with the face and talent behind it:

https://medium.com/on-banking/a923facddc3c

Plenty more information on Darkcointalk.

Unfortunately no one heard from Sauron for a while.

Is Sauron the guy who started a coin called darkcoin?  When we changed the name, we discovered someone already started a thread for a coined named the same, but the thread went dormant.  Actually, the coin never launched, so we reached out to that community and asked if they would like to join us, they said yes, and that's how things got a little confusing with people finding some of the specifications of the original coin and then reading the specifications of this coin, thinking we changed from something like 1 or 4 billion coins? to 22 million.  But we were happy that being friendly enabled us to use the name without any conflicts Smiley

Yah, I'm slowing down as well, don't have as much time and with the holidays next week, I'll have even less!  Good thing, too, because otherwise that market would get me down!

But I have faith we're at the very beginning of something great, but that it will take a while to really take off.

what?

LOL, guess I'm too tired to make sense!  LOL

I sent a couple of wallets, 3 actually so I could fill an order, to my other wallets to try out darksend and I noticed 26.XXXX was suddenly in the unconfirmed spot, removed from my balance.  It kind of freaked me out, but then I realized that it must have something to do with the 3 darksends I did.  3+fees = 26.XXX .  But then I wondered if that meant we could darksend up to 29 coins or something now?

Yah, the market has really crashed, so did the stock market I heard.  When bitcoin are down so low, so is darkcoin as we only trade with and are measured in bitcoin.  But this is a volatile business.  It will be years before cryptos settle down.

Wow, quiet day on the board, eh?

DarkSend Beta v6.3 - v.0.10.3.3 (same)
- Updated required protocol version to kick the old masternodes off the network

Great. That's 2 x 6.2 and 2 x 6.3 shots of Tequila tonight to mark progress.

Chaps and Mrs Robinson, posts might get a little ugly later  Grin

Oh yes, I've discovered much sympathy with Mrs. Robinson as I got older, LOL, and Harold's mom in Harold and Maud.  LOL.  Actually, I think she's kind of cool!  LOL

But my tastes are truly in slightly older men now.  Slightly because much older than that and they're all in wheelchairs, LOL.

But what do you mean it's going to get ugly?

r/DRKcoin Faucet not working?  I thought it was empty, sent a coin and asked others to please deposit, and the deposits do not show up.  Has it been compromised?

Are the deposits showing ok on the block explorer?

no Sad

I mean the transaction is there, but it says "not yet redeemed".

Also, the faucet isn't functioning, it's been saying "It seems the internet goblins are messing with us, please refresh!" since I made my deposit a few hours ago.  Maybe it's just stuck, can anyone fix this?

I think it's already there. You just need to enable the "coin control (experts only)" option for the QT GUI or alternatively use "raw transactions" (works for both GUI and rpc daemon).

---

By the way... Is there a particular reason why my earlier questions about masternode operations got practically zero responses while the topic moved on? Roll Eyes

I believe that when you retrieve a private key in a wallet, it becomes one with the wallet, and it can get all messed up if you tried to reuse that private key again.  I could be wrong about that, but I happened to ask that very question tonight in the Darkcointalk forum.  Hopefully someone will know the answer.  But I made test paper wallets and retrieved them into my wallet, and I don't see how that can be separated again.  It was as if the paper wallet and my computer wallet were merged.

can I be running a regular darkcoind node and a master node at the same time, or will I be, if I run a Master node?

Only one.

With some trick, running a regular darkcoind node and a master node at the same time is possible.
(change data directory, change port, change rpcport)

Maybe it'll be something available in the future?
