I wanted to ask, what would merge mining accomplish?  Would it require a joint agreement with the Dogecoin Dev / community?

As long as DOGE miners would be willing to get free PND (I mean, who doesn't?) while mining DOGE, it would accomplish a greater security for our network, as well as PND miners getting free DOGE.

Would it require a joint agreement with the Dogecoin Dev / community?

I'm not too sure about the details yet but I don't think it would require one.

522  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: The Official PandaCoin thread - Second chapter [PND | Scrypt | KGW | 0% PREMINE | Multipool] on: April 17, 2014, 11:37:23 AM
After PND becomes PoS, can we still mine it directly using GPU?

Should we decide on switching to PoS it will only be minable indirectly through the multipool.

There's another proposal of merged mining with DOGE instead of switching to PoS as well.
523  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: The Official PandaCoin thread - Second chapter [PND | Scrypt | KGW | 0% PREMINE | Multipool] on: April 16, 2014, 10:44:42 PM
Isn't there a pandacoin already?

There are two others, both of which are unmaintained.
524  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [POLL] Should PandaCoin (PND) add PoS? on: April 16, 2014, 02:18:14 PM
why are people changing the rules in the middle of the game ?

Nothing has been changed yet. This thread exists to determine the opinion of the people currently involved with the coin. You know, those who are planning beyond the quick buck that most miners on this board are trying to make.

Honestly you guys see the PoS hype train and think that going pure PoS will save your coins.

Presenting an option doesn't mean it's a definite solution.

Next thing you know, you guys will make the PoS pay out 100% per year, but not before loading up on PND.

pretty sleezy if you ask me.

Clearly you're not aware about the current state of this coin or what it stands for.

Please refrain from posting senseless assumptions without doing your research first.
525  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][POOL] Profit switching pool for PND and DOGE - multi.pandapool.info on: April 16, 2014, 09:07:27 AM
Any interest in adding another friendly buy coin Zeitcoin, many would love to mine ZEIT again too by bringing in some good MHS?
The Zeitcoin team is trying to set something up, but this might be a win win if something could be arranged.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=487814

Supporting any random coin somehow defeats the purpose of a multipool. Right now we'll only support PND and DOGE.

anyone got a payout from http://multi.pandapool.info?

been mining for days, stats are being shown for shares but just zero coins.....

The payouts are fine. You might want to post your address so we can attempt on solving the issue.

Since implementing PoS would be technically possible after all I've created a poll that seeks some discussion around it which is found at https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=572462.

More detailed information will be added tomorrow. If you know what this is about you should do your vote now.
527  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: The Official PandaCoin thread - Second chapter [PND | Scrypt | KGW | 0% PREMINE | Multipool] on: April 16, 2014, 12:59:44 AM
How do I know which is working? Every pool says 0 gh/s net hashrate...

http://thepool.pw/panda
http://bamboohouse.info
https://pandapool.info

are working, while the last two have most of the hashrate. I do however recommend using the multipool which is located at http://multi.pandapool.info if you would like to contribute to PNDs position on the market.

Thanks to the thepool.pw admin for still keeping up to date.
528  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [POLL] Should PandaCoin (PND) add PoS? on: April 16, 2014, 12:43:33 AM
Voting will close on 29 April. The option that has received most votes will be worked on.

This post is still in draft and will be updated.

Some cons for PoS:
  • Not minable anymore through normal means.
  • Current stakeholders will likely benefit more than others buying in later on.
  • Questionable long-term sustainability depending on the adoption of the coin.

Some pros for PoS:
  • Multipool will be able to raise and support the price naturally, depending on volume on the market.
  • Since it's not necessary to mine through normal means you will benefit from the coin by just running the wallet.
  • Next to no energy consumption is needed to mint coins, compared to traditional proof of work coins making it less of a necessity to dump coin on the market.

Some cons for merged mining:
  • Compared to the current model it doesn't seem like there's any real negative.

Some pros for merged mining:
  • PND and DOGE miners will be able to mine both blockchains at once, essentially meaning free coins apart from the targeted coin.
  • Better security for the PND blockchain should DOGE miners be starting to agree on merged mining.

some pools in the first post are on the wrong blockchain.

I've contacted them about it but it doesn't seem like they are interested in updating their clients.

Edit: Added a disclaimer.

how many pandas are there ?

You can view the total number at http://pandachain.net/chain/PandaCoin/q/totalbc. At the time of writing this post it would be 29.4 billion.

@manfred87

I've never been able to reproduce this issue. All I can recommend is to check whether or not you're having issue on your local network that might hinder the client from syncing.

@jommy99

Instead of pasting a long list of nodes you might want to consider recommending http://bamboohouse.info/pandacoin.conf which is updated every minute.

The UI just got a good refresh. Enjoy.

On a different note and if you're interested in sharing code - check out http://git.bamboohouse.info. I'm offering (private) hosting for free in a Gitlab instance.

http://1dash.net for instance is hosted on there already as well as my project concerning PandaCoin.

Interesting coin if POS happens. Could easily ride on blackcoin's successful formula of strong community + multipool + POS. Will be pointing my rig the multipool for now!

You already have the multipool and strong community as a foundation (4chan, resulting in being the only survivor and winner out of the pandas). Reaching out to the South East Asian and having POS will make this coin stand out nicely from the upcoming wave of POS+Multipool Blackcoin wannabees.

Any updates on POS integration and possibly having some sort of scrypt ASIC protection (N-scrypt/x11/Scrypt Jane)?

Thanks.

The only update I can give regarding PoS would either sucess or fail of the integration and obviously I will everyone know once it's completely off the table.

Personally I see having scrypt as a treat as none of the algorithms you mentioned offer total ASIC protection in the long run. People are used to it so to speak. Then again, I'd like to debate on that depending on how the progress on PoS will be going.

+1 for community involvement. See my edited post - I can see the roadmap on how this coin could be awesome in the future. There's currently a market gap for a 'asian-dogecoin-with-asic-protection-plus-blackcoin-functionality' coin. There's bound to be tons of coins wanting to ride off blackcoin's success, but PND has the inherent qualities to stand out from that new crowd.

Looking forward to your updates about the coin. Fair points on ASIC protection.

Will be considered. The asian aspect anyway.
