Other reasons why increased adoption does not necessarily mean increased price: - Fractional-reserve banking. If you believe that Bitcoin is immune to fractional-reserve banking, you are being naive.
- Bitcoins, and other crypto-currencies and crypto-assets are much more efficient to transfer. For the same amount of economic activity, many fewer bitcoins are needed. The demand as a result of increased adoption would not be as high as you think. Especially with the huge overhang of hoarding that we have now.
could you elaborate on fractional reserve banking for me please?

Seriously bro the standard fee is nothing, why do you want to send money with 0 fee?
I don't. I was just looking for some education. Thank you to all who responded to this post.

It was quite an underwhelming article really. Nothing new just a bit of exposure for both the bank and bitcoin.

Was this the chap that was on the bbc trying to promote bitcoin to the old grey haired chap that didnt agree with him?

Have btc-e returned them to the gambling site?

I have thrown some money in to BTCJAM. I see it as high risk. I was looking for something else to do with my bitcoins and thought why not. I spread out a pretty paltry sum over 8 loans. If I get zero back then it isn't the end of the world.
If the borrowers are scammers I wouldn't expect much the way in assistance from BTCJAM, but perhaps I will get the opportunity to report on my experience in a few months.

5-10 years for reaching a mere 690? this must be a joke, if by that time bitcoin is still at 690, then something went utterly wrong, and bitcoin is done, none can save it anymore
It is entirely possible for Bitcoin to become widely adopted while the price to remains where it is now or even falls. Do you think? I look at it in the sense that if it becomes widely adopted then it's demand would obviously sky rocket and naturally the exchange price would rise. I would be quite surprised if it's popularity increased and its current value remained the same.

Very rightly said and I still feel that bitcoin can never replace fiat as there are many things which you cannot buy by using bitcoin like grocery stuff and it would take a very long time when the grocerries and the small shops starts accepting bitcoin as a mode of payment and I dont think in near future that bitcoin can replace fiat.
So do you think bitcoin can never replace fiat, or that it will take a very long time to replace fiat?

If you set your wallet to pay zero transaction fee what happens? Is there more than one possibility.
It makes sense that no transaction fee means that you get no priority, but will the transaction always be processed eventually? If yes, what is the maximum time frame? If no, is there a maximum time limit before it bounces back? Could it be stuck in limbo for months?

That said, more important than the amount of inflation is the amount of adoption. If enough people adopt, potentially tens or hundreds of billions can be poured in, a mere 300 million is just a drop in the bucket.
yep, totally.

it seems like the OP doesn't understand the situation, but none of the posters understood the OP.
He's simply trying to say that the price will increase after the halving or maybe the next halving. When inflation of coins will be very little, perhaps even negative inflation because of lost coins.
perhaps i misunderstood but it seems to me the OP was saying that the price may rise but it will inevitably always fall.

It sounds like an awful lot but how many gbp or usd get created each year? Or for other investments like gold or property, how many of these are created or mined each year? The difference with bitcoin is we know the ceiling and it is pretty scarce.
|
|
|
It could reach that value. It is becoming more scarce but i am not sure about the rate of new users adopting bitcoin. Cold storage is still too technical and whilst the trezor sounds good, I am not so sure it will go mainstream. I think it needs to be shrunk down to a size that you can fit in to your wallet. Its a bit like the cell phones of the 80s for now, but a great breakthrough non the less. If tescos and its foreign equivalants would integrate such a device in to their club cards then mass adoption will follow for sure. Its all very plausible to me. Time will tell. I predict 2016 for $16666.66/BTC. Forever the optimist ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif)

The last two winters have been quite mild in comparison to previous years where i am. I fail to see the problem and if indeed there is a problem i dont understand it in order to fix it. So i will take the easy option and ration my energy use.

I like it. It dwarfs the previous bubbles just like the other 2 bubbles have done before it. How many boom and busts do you forsee? Several, until we are a world currency. How far you are sure about the above chart and what backs it ? I think it is purely speculation. Looks predictable though doesn't it?

When or if bitcoin becomes world currency, I suppose.... there wont be any more boom and busts. People will then turn their grievances to the early adopters while they work 40 hours a week at tesco for 0.00025 bitcoins a month. I love the people that work at tesco. Where would we be without them? I'm dreaming aren't I? The Queen will announce a 'Royal Coin' before the end of her reign and make it mandatory for all businesses to trade in that and everyone will go, "oh! ok then."

When I heard about the internet the first time, I thought this will be kind of a world revolution and it turned out to be true.
How old was you when you first heard about the internet? I was a kid when the internet was new and didn't think much besides, "this is pretty cool". Revolution never entered my mind. Old enough enough to fiddle with a TI99, at the time it was released. Another revolution to me btw. Is it all you hoped it would be and more?
