521  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / USECOIN TAKEOVER/RELAUNCH on: August 26, 2014, 03:05:15 PM
Hello Usecoin Investor and future Investors

you all must be aware of the Usecoin dev's (Shameonyou) actions that lead to the end of use coin. Many have lost alot of money investing in Usecoin. I also being one of them. I was fortunate not to lose much. Our team have been working on launching a coin for some time and were planning to launch soon. we have decided it would be better to takeover usecoin as it has the specs required for our ambitious plan.

why Usecoin?
The reason for it being use coin is firstly it is listed on two exchanges. by taking over the coin we would already have saved time by getting our coin launched and saved funds to get on a exchange.

secondly although Usecoin has gained PR from the developer's negative actions it is known so we have head start rather than launching our new coin.

Our plan

first plan is to do a complete makeover. most importantly we will be changing the name of the coin to remove the tainted Usecoin. we cannot discuss our plans as of yet but they are better and much more advanced than Usecoin. i would even say we have features that have not yet been implemented by any other coin.

if you do not wish for us to takeover Usecoin we will go ahead and launch a new one. if we have the support of our community we can give a few details before you can decide what you would like us to do.

We are looking forward to hearing your thoughts for our plan

The above thread has a list of all the active signature campaigns and is very helpful.

525  Economy / Services / Re: Pocket Rockets Casino | Signature Advertising Campaign |Featuring Weekly Payouts on: August 11, 2014, 09:42:46 PM
I just got back home. Doing payouts right now.

Please note: The campaign ends today. Everybody will be paid accordingly up to today.
Sadly there is currently no way to justify running it for another period.

Thanks to all participants!
Special thanks to the few people that actually argued reasonably when they had a question and not just trolled. You know who you are. Appreciated!

Many of you have visited us on the site itself, played some poker or did some dicing. If you want to support us you are free to continue using the signatures of course!

This really is too bad.

When should we expect payment to be made?
526  Economy / Economics / Re: Mining USD? on: August 09, 2014, 04:52:31 PM
Is this topic related to the troll army draft in the service forum?

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=695428.0

Only central banks can "mine" dollars, unless you want to practice a federal crime that can give you 10 years in jail

Let us say the creator of an altcoin deposited a stash of dollars, from which miners would be gradually rewarded.
Works similar to 'mining' of USD.
The created of the altcoins would have no reason to do this. And the miners would need to trust that the creator would actually payout the dollars.

The closest thing to mining dollars would be to mine bitcoin or some other alt and convert your mined coins into dollars.
527  Economy / Economics / Re: Does China exactly ban bitcoin? on: August 09, 2014, 04:50:31 PM
Stopping all their banking institution from offering services to bitcoin exchange and broker is essentially same as a "soft" ban.

This is essentially what China has done to bitcoin. It would he nearly impossible to ban bitcoin trade because of TOR and because BTC nodes are coming online and going offline all the time and it would be nearly impossible to keep an up to date list of them all.
528  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Who decides the total number of coins? on: August 09, 2014, 04:48:18 PM
So as everyone keeps coming up with these new coins and new algorithms, how do they decide how many total coins to offer? I know LTC is exactly 4X as many BTC. Can anyone shed any light on this, or is it completely random and up to each individual coin maker? What are the possible positive and negative impacts on a somewhat random, finiate amount of coins?

It's completely arbitrary. Choose whatever you like as long as there is a clear and static cap.

was arbitratry for bitcoin also? i remember 21M come up from a math equation or some other calculation
It is the amount that is programmed into the protocol of the coin. It is essentially an arbitrary number that is known to everyone in advance before they start mining or trading so market participants can have some idea as to the value of each coin.
529  Economy / Economics / Re: Deflationary national currency, pros and cons on: August 09, 2014, 04:45:48 PM
I support neither inflation or deflation, because both have harmful effects. Both redistribute wealth and lead to market distortion. A stable currency is preferable in my book.
Although this is true, it is much easier to keep inflation to be moderate and keep it moderate then it is to keep deflation to be moderate. It is also much easier to slow down inflation then it is to slow down deflation.
530  Economy / Economics / Re: Quantitative Easing on: August 09, 2014, 04:43:26 PM
QE is the financial version of Iraq: you can't stop the occupation, for what you created is a monster.
I don't think this is true. QE was designed to attempt to prop up the economy. Once the economy is able to grow at a strong enough pace on its own then QE will no longer be necessary. Now getting the balance sheet of the fed back down to more normal levels is a much different story.
531  Economy / Economics / Re: How profitable are exchanges? on: August 09, 2014, 04:39:50 PM
Altcoin exchanges are very very profitable for the people running it, because after 4-8 months, they get "hacked" and shut down. No questions asked :p
I don't think this so much has to do with the profitability of the exchanges but rather the amount of coins stored on these types of exchanges. I think a lot of people like to trade altcoins in a "day trading" fashion and as a result keep their coins on the exchanges. This results there being more coins on the exchange then there really should be.
532  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Retail adoption hurts bitcoin price it doesn't help it and here's why on: August 09, 2014, 04:33:59 PM
The point it that Bitcoin is being adopted by big players, I think anyway.  I think people are thinking in the short term price of Bitcoin too much.  What matters is Bitcion gains trust of the average person and if they see big companies testing the waters it's worth dips in the price.  They say all press is good press and I think that is a suitable way of looking at the retail adoption at this time.
This is right on. When large companies start to accept bitcoin, it will give bitcoin a better image and will start to be associated with bad things like illegal activity less. As more people see bitcoin in a positive light and that there are many ways you can use bitcoin, more people will use it and the price will rise over time.
I think the association that bitcoin has with illegal activity is hampering its price. I agree that big, legit merchants accepting bitcoin for payment will, over time, take away this association, thus causing the price to rise.
533  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: 0.2 FEE!!!! ? am i missing something? on: August 09, 2014, 04:30:58 PM
If there's one criticism I have of blockchain.info it's that you have to manually input the fee so I can see how this could happen. It should be autofilled with the suggested amount based on what transaction you're attempting to send.
The problem with this is that most transactions will eventually get confirmed within 24 hours even without a fee. If you are sending what most would consider to be dust and/or Blockchain spam then no it probably won't but if you are sending a tx that is actually involved in commerce the it probably will. Commerce Tx usually have exactly two outputs (one for the the person you are sending to and one chance address).

Some transactions will also not get confirmed in the next block that is found even with the recommend TX fee. If you were to use a larger fee then the chances the TX will be confirmed in the very next block are much larger.
534  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Custom Porn and Bitcoin Story on: August 09, 2014, 04:18:57 PM
I found it very interesting that the author of the article in the OP was willing to pay 20 and 40% to a third party to receive payment. From what I can tell the third party was providing very little service above collecting payment.
535  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Safer Cold Storage: Trezor vs. Armory ?? on: August 09, 2014, 04:14:34 PM
I would recommend Trezor for people who haven't a particular experience with bitcoins and cryptos in general, it's a perfect gift for friends or parents if you want to introduce them in the virtual currencies.
I don't think people just getting into crypto currencies should be dealing with enough bitcoin so they need cold storage until they get more comfortable with it. I think cold storage in General is very advanced and someone just getting into bitcoin has a greater chance of messing something up when dealing with cold storage - mainly not paying close enough attention to detail and sending coins to an incorrect address to destroying the private keys to an address that they need to keep.
536  Other / Politics & Society / Re: ISIS Captures Iraq's Largest Christian Town on: August 08, 2014, 02:53:27 AM
President Obama is Muslim and he does not support Israel. I don't think he has anything to do with the ISIS directly however his early withdrawal from Iraq certainly contributed to this happening.

Obama has announced that he may authorize air strikes however I doubt he will actually go through with them as he has let others cross "red lines" many time with no consequence.
537  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Snowden granted 3-yr residence permit - lawyer on: August 08, 2014, 01:48:30 AM
IMO, Snowden might be feeling happy about it. But if I am not wrong, he originally planned to go to Ecuador and seek asylum there. Not a viable plan right now, it seems at this point of time.
He can probably eventually make it there. He is likely living off bitcoin donations now, he lawyer is probably working for free.

The long term residency will also likely allow him to leave Russia without the plane carrying him being stopped in international airspace as he can leave somewhat in the middle of his residency. He would probably also not make it public that he has left Russia.
538  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Breaking: Obama considering airstrikes in Iraq on: August 08, 2014, 01:29:36 AM
Bad tactic. If Obama is serious about countering the ISIS, then he should give high grade advanced weaponry to the Kurdish Peshmerga troops who are fighting the ISIS in Northern Iraq.
This would not be smart. This is asking for it to end up in the hands of terrorists. I think Obama should never of pulled out of Iraq as they simply did not have the security to do so yet.

The US is going to eventually have to commit troops to Iraq m
539  Other / Politics & Society / Re: CNN national poll: Rand Paul 13%, Bush 13%, Ryan 12%, Huckabee 10%, Christie 9% on: August 08, 2014, 01:12:19 AM
my problem with hilary is that she's the same sold same old.. she brokered that secretary of state to pretty much push the U.S. imperialistic agenda forward. i don't think her campaign message would be anything similar to "hope and change," because it's obvious she'll do shit the same way as the US has done before.
The thing is the MSM which consists of all stations from Abc/Nbc/Cbs/Cnn/Msnbc will all glorify whoever the Democrat is. Many of the boobs only get their news from the big 3 Abc/Nbc/Cbs because they're the free stations that everyone gets. True lefties and righties prefer their Msnbc/Cnn and Fox but the extremely low info voters get there's from the former and those stations typically don't give coverage to the likes of a libertarian unless they're too big to ignore. And even then, it's slanted heavily toward the statist flavor.
This is true regarding the ideologies of the stations but I think enough of the population has access to cable that most can watch all the MSM stations. I think that liberals have a huge media advantage in any election and this causes them to get more of the vote then the ideology of the country would suggest.
540  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Electronic display paper wallets on: August 07, 2014, 12:44:25 AM
Then it's basically a digital wallet right?

No, it wouldn't allow for transactions. It would not have any internet connection or means of communication.
They would have only a chip, solar cell, and display.
the wallet does not ever "allow" or not allow transactions. It is the fact that you control a private key that has unspent outputs that allows you to make a transaction.
