Please refrain from legal action just a little while longer. There are too many drawbacks to legal action at the moment, we should only use it as a last resort. I still trust Zhoutong, and as long as he's still giving meaningful updates that it's going the right way, it's best to wait.

Legal action:
-Will destroy the company
-Cost quite a bit, giving us less
-The stance taken towards BTC is unclear. We're not sure we will ever get any BTC back this way.

Zhoutong please tell Genjix (Or perhaps Genjix is reading this himself) to post _at least_ daily:

-The current ETA to the first payouts
-Number or percentage of accurate claims

We want to see progress being made, and numbers will tell us just that. It shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes each day, but could potentially save you thousands or perhaps even tens of thousands dollars of legal costs. Stop being incompetent and start acting!

I don't even know myself. I only know that I'm still an employee.

hmmm... guys... why would you trust a company that resorts to child labor?

Is it safe to assume that Zhou Tong did not have an account at Mt Gox?

~Bruno~

Ehhhh, as far as I know Zhoutong ages as well. And as far as I know he's already 18 years old.

You introducing a system that imposes a form of taint does nothing to prevent theft but does make using Bitcoin a hassle for those who are innocent.

Therefore I do not support this and will vigorously reject any movement towards this initiative and any like it.

Couldn't have said it better.
524  Economy / Speculation / Re: resistance at $5.3 deteriorating on: June 04, 2012, 03:19:07 PM
was that a sell or just the manipulator pulling of the wall?
it's time, the real investors take up the upward pressure and not let themselves being manipulated

It was a 13k sell into the smaller bidwall. The huge bidwall got pulled.

Edit: And the askwall got a lot smaller.
525  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Largest block to date on: June 04, 2012, 01:19:39 PM
I see no reason why the network won't be able to handle the transactions. But the hardware required will be more and more consequent...

The network should be fine, but I'm increasingly worried
about the satoshi client and the fact that it needs the whole
blockchain locally.

Agreed. There's a thread addressing this exact issue. Although I don't understand exactly how it works, it seems like a very good solution.

Thanks for all the help guys! Mail has been sent. Hopefully this will speedup the process of returning my funds. Smiley
527  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [Payout Updates] Bitcoinica site is taken offline for security investigation on: May 31, 2012, 10:16:12 PM

How did you get that? Cheesy Thanks!

Edit: Sign & Encrypt, or just Encrypt? Just encrypting should be good, right?

Genjix, is it okay if I use your public PGP key to encrypt the data before sending it to verify@bitcoinica.com?
And if so, what public key would you like me to use? Thanks.

Hey, this is my valid key: CCF588E3. The other one is old and I need to revoke it. Make sure you mention it's encrypted for me.

Also avoid sending things to my personal email if you want to keep it secure. That email is used on public terminals and is not secure - it's a personal email. Otherwise if you don't mind then you can CC me, but make sure it does actually get sent to verify@bitcoinica.com

Hmmm, how do I encrypt my file using that key? I'm using the following PGP GUI:
http://gpg4win.org

Never worked with PGP before, so this is all new to me. It's asking me to use a certificate, but I want to use your key instead. How can I make the program accept a key rather than a certificate?

I have sent additional information; but GPG encrypted (you should have explicitly supplied a key for that purpose) to genjix's public key, 634FEC67.

Could genjix confirm that that is a reasonable key to encrypt to?  If not, please supply another.

Given how insecure email is, I really don't want to be broadcasting unencrypted personal information all around the Internet.

Great idea, and I agree! We need a public statement on how to send verification details. Genjix, could you please comment on this?
531  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [Payout Updates] Bitcoinica site is taken offline for security investigation on: May 31, 2012, 01:04:25 PM
I've just made a document with as many mails from and to Bitcoinica I still had, combined with proof of residency and my ID.
Can you please confirm I should send those documents to verify@bitcoinica.com?
I'd like my data to be handled with great care.

Thank you very much in advance.

I can provide anything you want: Mails, ID, deposit numbers, withdrawal numbers.
Just please help me out. The wait is killing me.
533  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [Payout Updates] Bitcoinica site is taken offline for security investigation on: May 28, 2012, 07:48:57 PM
You don't have to pay back everything at once. If you are fairly certain of a lower range of what could have been in everybody's accounts, pay that out ASAP, and figure out the more fine-grained details later.

It sucks having loads of BTC sitting there, doing nothing Sad

Subbed

Are these really necessary? Half of this topic is made of "sub" messages. AFAIK you can use "notify" link above the first post and below the last to subscribe without replying.

Clicking notify makes the forum send you mails when there are new replies. Most people don't want to have the forum software clutter their mailboxes. So yes, until the forum software allows you to enable notifies without sending out mails, a quick "sub" message is the easiest way to subscribe to a thread.

Since people are allowed to speak now, and it seems like customer funds will be repaid (Thank god!), there's one more question left:

-Are there any backups left?: Is the database intact?

I'll quote this here, as people might miss it on the previous page.

537  Economy / Speculation / Re: Prediction: Stable price and no huge random price swings with no Bitcoinica on: May 23, 2012, 07:05:44 PM
If anything, the shorting Bitcoinica offered was probably good for the economy, because it kept price rises in check.

+1 Bitcoinica gave the market the tools to make bets in all directions and through game theory eventually the only possible outcome is a relatively stable price. Not to worry thought because if no one else it looks like kronos will soon fill the void left by Bitcoinca.

Yes, and Bitcoinica wasn't just a stabilizing factor on the market. It finally gave people something to hedge with. It's absolutely crucial that that is possible. Without it, people and companies dealing in a lot of BTC are exposing themselves to price swing risks. And without Bitcoinica, those swings are going to be bigger than they have been the last couple of months. Of course, for a business, such risks are simply unacceptable.

So much for wide acceptance of Bitcoin. *sigh*
538  Economy / Speculation / Re: Prediction: Stable price and no huge random price swings with no Bitcoinica on: May 23, 2012, 06:32:19 PM
Have you noticed the lack of huge dips now that Bitcoinica is out of commission?

Like it has been stable for the last ~3 months? Yes, I have.
Did you notice to huge bubble to 32, and then back down to 7 before Bitcoinica ever entered the market? Yes, I have.

If anyone was/is going to take legal action, they aren't going to make threats about it in a forum. They will let their attorneys do the talking for them to the appropriate entity responsible. Usually that is anyone remotely connected to it. The lawyers sue everybody and let the judge weed out who is appropriate.

We might even get new case law: § 31.33.7 Bitcoinica sub(a) interesting trading platforms. Smiley

I'm not making threats. I'm merely saying those documents, if real, could be very valuable for the people that want to take legal action.

Seems to me that that is a threat in of its self. i.e. Take care of me or I'll release what I have.

Otherwise: You would just post them and let the chips fall where they may.

Yes, I agree. But it wasn't me saying I had any documents. I was asking the guy who said he did (shad0wbitz) to release them if it's real what he's saying.
