So I just tried something on a whim, I added the Maple Syrup to a cup of the Maple Tea. ITS AMAZING!  Grin
I'm going to have to do that with some of my "regular" tea. Sounds good.
522  Economy / Goods / Re: Bitcoin Checks on: May 12, 2012, 12:00:22 AM
How do you have firstbits printed on the bills before funding them?  That isn't possible.  You can't just guess what your firstbits will be. You have to get the address in the blockchain first.

When the address is used it will appear in the block chain, I currently use 6 characters to avoid any mismatches, if this proves to be a problem I will switch to 7.

However if someone else funds an address with same prefix before your customer funds his then the check will have the wrong firstbit.

But they will also have an unfunded check, also the reason for 6 characters.
To be safe, I'd just send a satoshi to each of the check addresses to get them into the blockchain and have valid firstbits.  I think it's a good idea to have the firstbits on the check, but better to be safe than sorry!  You can use sendmany for each batch to minimize fees.  It wouldn't cost more than a few cents total, definitely worth it IMO if you want to have a product that seems completely legitimate!  Otherwise, you'll keep being asked the same question over and over about the firstbits.  Wink
Yeah. This would work and guarantee that you don't ever have an incorrect firstbits.

Oh. Well then I don't think you will find any other ideas/help there lol

I saw a picture somewhere of a couple BFLs hooked up to a Mac Mini.  I think it was in the FPGA picture thread, but I can't find it right now.

Well thats super long and I didn't read all of it.  Some of it is clearly false though.  Women have the same voting rights as men in every country? Really? Lebanon has stricter requirements for women and Saudi Arabia still doesn't let women vote after saying that they would be able to for a few years.  Of course 2 countries, doesn't completely destroy his argument, but it shows his bias.

The article was written for and concern with Western audiences not Middle Eastern.

There is also nothing wrong with biases.

Quote
Even today, out of 200 sovereign states, there are exactly zero that have a different class of voting rights to men and women.  Any claim that women were being denied rights than men were given in even 0.1% of historical instances, falls flat.
I don't see how this statement only applies to the west. He also has comparisons to the middle east with population growth.  Not that I see how it's relevant.

And I agree that biases aren't bad, but they should definitely be noted.

Quote
Lefto-'feminists' will be outbred and replaced very quickly, and rural American conservatives will be the only resiliently youthful population among all the world's white ethnicities.
Also, this is laughable.  Where did all of the "lefto-feminists" come from in the first place then?  Why does how your parents are raised have to correlate directly to how you will act or behave?  We wouldn't have gay people anymore if they could be "outbred."  I see feminism (which this author has grossly oversimplified) as the same.

Only rural America can guide the rest of the nation into a more peaceful transition.
It's rural America that voted in the warmongers that got us into the idiotic "war on terror."  I don't understand how these same people and their views on women's rights are going to bring us to a peaceful transition...
529  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Mitt Romney(president) and Ron Paul (vp) on: May 10, 2012, 08:06:44 AM
Instead of talking about wasting your vote, how 'bout the waste of gas to drive to a voting booth? US presidents have the support of ~25-30% of the nation (~50-60% vote for president, winner usually has ~50-55% of the vote). If they counted de facto US residents instead of "legal" residents, I'd assume the majority of US residents don't vote for president, and with how similar the two viable candidates are and how easily laws can be ignored, why should they bother? 10-20m illegal aliens sure don't take the law seriously. The estimated 119m US citizens who've used illegal drugs don't care. The ~140m citizens who don't vote don't even care enough to drive to the voting booth. Fuggedaboudit.

Whether voting for a third-party candidate shows any more disillusionment than just not voting is debatable to everyone but the media talking-heads who've devoted their lives to taking government seriously and reporting on it.
Not following idiotic and unenforceable drug laws and not voting for the president should not be lumped together IMO.

And if your argument is that tons of people don't vote, so you shouldn't vote doesn't make much sense to me.  If most of the populace doesn't vote, and then I do vote, then my vote is worth MORE not LESS.

SSN, EIN, TIN are generated by the same computer system, the numbers do not overlap. If I open a business and get an EIN (no need to be a corporation, though corporations are people) and then present it to those asking for an SSN there is no way for them to know it is not an SSN. And as for TIN's anyone can ask for those, they hand them out like candy. Not to worry though, the National ID Card will change all of that greyness and screw us all equally.

Now that DeathAndTaxes has relinquished his prized avatar, are we going to have to bear seeing a Seasonic avatar?  Tongue
So you used an EIN or a TIN instead of a SSN to open your bank account? You haven't actually said.

531  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: iPhone IOS Bitcoin wallet is here! (From Blockchain.info) on: May 09, 2012, 05:51:37 PM
I was able to sign a transaction with 44 inputs on my 4S.  I didn't time it, but I did notice my phone go to sleep while it was signing.  When I unlocked the phone, it looked like it had been signing it fine in the background.

Thanks again for the great wallet!
532  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Vanitygen: Vanity bitcoin address generator [v0.17] on: May 09, 2012, 12:13:18 AM
I noticed that someone wanted case-sensitive vanity address searching. My vanity address applet now (v0.2) has such an option. It's really slow, as I'm just experimenting. Here's the bitcointalk topic.

(Notice that I specifically reference Vanitygen as a much more capable generator, so I'm not trying to steal any thunder from this mighty thread. Please leave any feedback regarding my applet on the other thread.)
case sensitive is slower than case insensitive? That sounds backwards.  Do you just mean that case sensitive has a higher difficulty? Or do you mean the app is just slow in general?
533  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So I was checking my referral logs ... on: May 08, 2012, 10:27:30 PM
Speaking of evangelism, has anyone gathered a collection of tips on how it should and shouldn't be done? That might be very useful. I did a quick search, but I couldn't find much more than "tell them how awesome it is and include a link to weusecoins".

See https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Public_relations

That's a great page.  I hadn't seen it before.

Reading the other forum's topics made me sad.  These girls are fearful of Bitcoin for the exact reasons why it is awesome -- no government, no centralization, open source, virtually no trust.  Sad
534  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Mitt Romney(president) and Ron Paul (vp) on: May 08, 2012, 09:57:15 PM
Try to imagine you would have voted for Gore or Nader and chose Nader because you are a sweet and idealistic person.  You got Bush, your worst nightmare, because you wasted your vote.  Bush only won by a few thousand votes and Nader got over 100k votes.
This exact problem is why I like STV

536  Economy / Securities / Re: (TyGrr) TyGrr Tech on: May 08, 2012, 06:25:13 PM
I have a question: Where does the company mine (pool, solo)?
In the contract you say that we are shareholders and that the company mines the coins, pays for electricity and the rest is profit. From the profit you take 5% and the rest goes 50:50 as savings and dividends.
But in reality you talk in your reports about difficulty and the number of mined coins is always the number of coins seems to be always perfect 100% PPS. I would expect the number of mined coins to fluctuate and generally be more than 100% PPS as you can mine at GPUMAX (like JLP does).
Or do you mine at GPUMAX and you keep much more then 5%?

The farm has been operating at about 5 to 7G range for about 3 months. We have two main boards being replaced and almost always one or more rig down. Since I do not have time to devote to keeping it going as best as I should I pay out the 100% PPS anyway. And for the last month I have also been paying you about 250% what you should be getting due to my math mistakes. (I kept paying you guys my 60% share of the dividends)

Yeah that all comes out of my pocket. However we do mine at GPUmax and eclipse mining when we are operational.

I'm very open to paying out a percent of what we actually mine but dividends will free fall:)
So how long can you sustain paying out of your own pocket?

I don't complaining about being paid more than expected, but I would like to know how profitable the company actually is.  Reading this last post especially, it sounds like it is not profitable.  When do you expect to actually start making close to 100% PPS.
537  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Need some feedback on a potential reloadable prepaid VISA program on: May 08, 2012, 05:41:26 AM
It looks like a 3 dollar monthly fee is pretty common for prepaid cards so I guess I am okay with it.

This looks easier than the other solutions of bitcoin -> gox or moneypak -> dwolla -> prepaid card
538  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I want to purchase my first bitcoins anonymously. on: May 07, 2012, 10:04:34 PM
Grab a MoneyPak, get on to Tor, set up Tor SASL, goto #bitcoin-otc on freenode IRC, make your offer. Wait until someone responds, provide MP to a trusted trader there, receive BTC.  This will probably be the cheapest and safest routes for you to maintain anonymity.
I thought that you couldn't connect to freenode via tor until you register with nickserv.  Which means you need to connect without tor once to register.  So the admins could tell your IP from your registration if they wanted to, right?
That is correct! But what if the OP registered at Walmart in a different town?
That would work.  Unless big brother is watching you through all those CCTVs Tongue

The problem is now our "simple" instructions for "fast, easy, and anonymous" require driving to another town and using a public computer Sad
539  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: [ANNOUNCE] Electrum - a new thin client on: May 07, 2012, 10:02:52 PM
Today, I've had a (tiny, for testing) transaction take more than 4 hours to get its 1st confirmation.
Then the 2nd confirmation came about 10 minutes afterwards, as usual.
Could the initial delay be due to the fact that the fee I paid was just 0.0001 ?
That's exactly correct.  Only the first confirmation can be delayed because of insufficient fees.
540  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Need some feedback on a potential reloadable prepaid VISA program on: May 07, 2012, 09:49:07 PM
ArrumExchange offers Withdraw2card and they state they can load funds onto any debit/credit card including prepaid cards. Can you do this also?

I think a re-loadable card would be really nice for Bitcoin until we can actually use smart phones/cards for payments.

I do dislike monthly fees though.
See above.
You can make payments now, no need for any re-loadable cards.
What is stopping me from sending Bitcoins for payment to the Cable company right now? Answer: The limitation is not smart phones/cards.

The solutions the Bitcoin economy needs are increasing the merchant and service provider acceptance. The ones who will benefit the most by adopting Bitcoin payments are the small businesses; News Stands, Coffee Shops, Hair Salons/Barber, Restaurants and Eateries, Smoke Shops, Fleamarket Sellers, etc. When you go to get your morning coffee before work and you see they accept Bitcoins, nothing could be more powerful to initiate change. Cashing out of Bitcoins to make a payment is an expensive and complicated solution.
We are saying the same thing, but just to make you happy I'll make my statement a little clearer.

I think a re-loadable card would be really nice for Bitcoin until merchants start to accept coins directly from our smart phones/cards/whatever mobile payment method is available.

Most stores are already part of the Visa or Mastercard networks and less tech savvy people will be much more comfortable with a piece of plastic that works exactly the same as the piece of plastic they already carry in their wallet.
