521  Economy / Securities / Re: Motion Raised! Starting a new FPGA mining farm/contract! Cognitive on [GLBSE] on: September 13, 2012, 10:30:54 PM
Currently Cognitive has suffered from a dump, wiping out all accurately priced bids. Cognitive is currently paying out sub-par dividends because we are still awaiting our new ASIC hardware from BFL. We already own 7 SC single upgrades and are waiting for BFL's go-ahead to ship back our FPGA Singles in return for the ASICs. This will put us ahead of all the current bonds and companies who aren't upgrading by far, in terms of dividends and share price Smiley

Is the electricity costs paid by the shares you kept in the IPO?  How many hours on average do you estimate you work managing this mining?

you know, if you asked him, he would tell you exactly what he does, he told me.

Obsi, what exactly do you do?  You are always the top of my dividend chart.

Also, GPUMAX technologies LLC is a registered company in Texas.

524  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: BurtW [SCAMMER TAG] on: September 11, 2012, 07:49:52 PM
BurtW totally deserves the scammer take.

multiple PPT bonds, put "Pirate is not a Ponzi" in his signature while knowing damn well it's a scam in the hopes of tricking the low-hanging fruit into shipping more BTC.

he continues to troll the scam-victims with this shameful shill thread created right before the Pirate collapse:  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=97094.msg1178786#msg1178786

profited small while helping the largest BTC scammer in history profit $5M+ and doing so while knowing what he was doing the whole time.  Extremely deserved scammer tag.

You should make it a poll to see if other agree.

Jeffry Picower made more off of Madoff's ponzi than anyone, including Madoff.  After his death in 2009, the US Federal government went after his estates assets and got a settlement for $7.2 billion.

525  Economy / Securities / Re: Would there be any interest in a GLBSE stock that invested in the US stock on: September 11, 2012, 05:11:10 AM
I think this idea has a lot of potential to bring some much needed diversity to glbse.

The only problem I see is this rather unappetizing possibility.
1. Convert IPO BTC -> $
2. All assets are now in $.
3. BTC gains against $.
4. Cannot convert assets from $ -> BTC for even IPO price

Of course, the opposite can entirely happen.  What do you think about this?

Maybe read up on foreign exchange risk.
526  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Response on: September 10, 2012, 05:56:40 PM
Seems like deja-vu.  I remember a few months back that MNW wrote some apology about trolling so much and he was going to stop.
527  Other / Meta / Re: Crime investigation on: September 10, 2012, 07:10:03 AM
it would be interesting if there's a bitcoin police service in bitcoin. lol

There is, its called "bitcoin police"

you guys need to lurk more...

Man, if the bitcoin police actually solved this case, brought pirate to justice, and returned all the coins.. they would be applauded as heros for aeons.

...return the coins?  I never heard of anyone giving buried treasure back to the pirate's victims.
528  Economy / Securities / Re: [ANN] [soon on GLBSE] Project Battalion: Genesis, BTNG on: September 08, 2012, 06:10:57 AM

The business plan is fairly straightforward:
1. Reach the alpha milestone (one mission fully playable),
2. Build community around Alpha
3. Setup website to accept sales (already done),
4. Expand single player storyline, and multiplayer experience.
5. Polish it,
6. Get it into the hands of games journalists/previewers.
7. Build bigger community around Beta
8. Polish it some more, build better game related website
9. Get it on steam, and possibly other digital stores
10. Get it into the hands of journalists and reviewers
11. Release it
12. Hi-five self if it breaks 100k sales within the first 3 months.
13. Make a monthly payment to GLBSE shares based on previous month's income.

530  Economy / Securities / Re: [GLBSE] MtGox Volatility Trading Bot [GMVT-BOT] on: September 08, 2012, 12:34:11 AM
Just to let you know, the motion to issue additional 700 shares has passed:

% to pass motion: 60
Voted Yea:563
Voted Nay:79

But I still don't have those additional shares in my account. I have opened support ticket on GLBSE and it is assigned to Nefario right now. Hopefully, it will be resolved soon. I will put an ask at 0.1 afterwards. Some of those shares (around 200) I plan to buy myself if they won't be sold.
Any word on the new shares? Are they still held up by Nefario?

Yep. Still no response from Nefario on that support ticket.

Did you click on "issue more security" in your asset portfolio page?
531  Economy / Securities / Re: [GLBSE] CPA on: September 07, 2012, 09:17:04 PM

Yup that was me. It was a round table, yes -- but I got to be King Arthur.

...

Yes, we had policies like that. I am not sure but I think I invited you to join -- or at least I probably should have. I can't remember if I did and you turned me down, or if I didn't ask. But it would have been nice of you to join Smiley

...

No it does not do damage to my own reputation when other people are incapable of living up to their contracts and promises.

I did not join because I don't do partnerships.  Not saying that it is not a bad investment but I like to have control over my investments.  I give free advise and ideas though so feel free to email me if you want.

As for people that give you criticism, advise, or are incapable of living up to their promises; it can affect your reputation in the manner that you respond to them.  There is a fine line between protecting your reputation and losing the reputation you already have by the way you react.

If it is someone is saying you are a scammer, reply that everyone is entitled to their own opinion and we can all choose to do business with anyone else we choose in this free market.

532  Economy / Securities / Re: [GLBSE] CPA on: September 07, 2012, 07:45:59 PM
I have never been a shareholder of CPA, so I retracted as I figured he would receive plenty of flak from his actual shareholders.

I am not a shareholder (yet). I think Usagi is blazing a new frontier here, bitcoins need a way to insure against losses but since this has never been done before it is understandable that the risks are hard to measure. We now know the premiums for insuring deposits in HYIPs should be much higher. Perhaps a more conservative and diversified portfolio of investments would be good, you just need to find somebody trustworthy you can lend the coins to, like me  Grin

Also, I would suggest to not to do so many different things, NYAN, YARR, CPA, etc, too many projects.  Stick to one thing or delegate your investments from the float out to someone else and give that person a percent of the profits.
533  Economy / Securities / Re: [GLBSE] CPA on: September 07, 2012, 07:37:46 PM

And one more thing. Another big, big effort I made in order to build trust within the community was to host a round table discussion group which during it's time had some of the biggest names around on it. We discussed operations, I laid out plans, and I basically gave everyone a share of the power CPA had. It was a great idea. But one by one the people on it left because they were unwilling to put their name behind CPA. Over and over again I was told that I couldn't be trusted and people didn't want to associate with me or CPA because they thought maybe they would get sued or something. WTF? Yeah right.

....

One man alone can't do this. I needed to trust the people around me but they all pretty much bailed or (essentially) ripped me off one way or another. What a disappointment.

I would suggest that a group of people throwing around ideas is a good thing, but that does not mean you have to give up control to these people.  There needs to be one person that calls the shots and that makes the final decisions.  If you want people to help you then that is OK, but I think you need to re-evaluate how you organize your business.  If you need help then give the person willing to help a percentage of the profits.

Having people to advise is fine, but the final decisions have to stop with you.  Look at Bitcoinica, no one knew who was in charge and it all fell apart.  No one is going to put their name behind something that they do not have 100% control of.

Also, who cares what other people feel about you.  Do your work, insure some things, show you are reliable, handle your customers and workers well, and then you will have a good reputation.  If someone  has a problem then try to find a solution to make that person happy.  If that person is unreasonable, then refund them their money and decline any future business with that person.  There is no need to have accusations thrown back and forth between two parties, it does damage to your reputation.
534  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why are bitcoin exchange operators so inept? on: September 07, 2012, 02:51:40 AM
Who to hire to audit an unregulated virtual security exchange?  More importantly, what insurance company is going to insure bitcoins in an unregulated virtual security exchange?

That's a good question and I'm not one to answer it because I am not in the security business nor am I in the insurance business. Someone running these exchanges needs to figure out who can audit and insure them though, because I for one will never keep significant sums of BTC in an unaudited, uninsured account. I doubt I am the only one in this camp.

People say that MtGox must be so secure now because they have already been hacked, and to that I reply: how the hell do you know? There is no publicly available security audit data of MtGox's servers (as far as I know). And not only that, there isn't any auditing of the account balances. For all we know they are operating on fractional reserve. User beware!

Even with exchanges that say they are audited, I am very skeptical.  Unless that 3rd party operator puts their reputation and money on the line, then I would suggest that their auditing is full of crap.
535  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why are bitcoin exchange operators so inept? on: September 07, 2012, 01:34:35 AM
It's an economic problem. A startup company wants to reduce costs as much as they can. In the case of Bitcoin exchanges, that means forgoing security audits, insurance and bonding in order to get something out now. The users don't notice security problems because these involve back end processes that they never directly engage with. In any event, these startups are paying the price for cutting corners handling other people's money. And the users are paying the price for leaving significant sums of money in an account that has no auditing and no insurance.

Good points, but is seems like some losses occur due to sheer stupidty, for example not having good backup routines for offsite storage, having the majority of coins in cold storage and so on.

Besides, it's hard for users to know whether the 'hack' is because there's actually a break in, or if it's a rogue operator.

That's why you need auditing and insurance. Stupidity happens, that's a fact. But if you have audits to protect against stupidity in the first place and then insurance to pay out if stupidity still occurs, then that solves the problem (for the most part).

In this case, if Bitfloor had a respectable auditor, probably one of the first questions they would ask is: 'where all the Bitcoins are stored?'. If the reply was 'on this unencrypted hard drive over here...' then the auditor catches that problem right away. No process is 100% foolproof, but these exchanges can do a hell of a lot better than what they are doing now which is just skimping on costs and duping customers into making large deposits on their unaudited, uninsured platforms.

Who to hire to audit an unregulated virtual security exchange?  More importantly, what insurance company is going to insure bitcoins in an unregulated virtual security exchange?
536  Other / Meta / Re: [POLL] should the "securities," "lending," etc. sub-fora be moved to a new site? on: September 05, 2012, 08:22:09 PM
There's alternative way to achieve the desired seperation - instead of moving the business subforums leave them here and move tech support and development forums to bitcoin.org

537  Other / Meta / Re: Long-term Offers Ponzi warning on: September 05, 2012, 08:17:41 PM
Securities, for one.

Maybe create a "Bonds" subcategory to Securities and apply the warning only there?

I'd prefer to see it applied to Securities as a whole.  If we're going to add another sub-category, I'd prefer it to be HYIPs and for the Lending and Securities forums to be heavily moderated for a while so that people don't just promote their HYIPs in forums where there's no warning and don't have an incentive to mis-label their schemes.

God, more subforums.  There are enough subforums already.  The reason why there are so many pirate discussion topics is because there are so many different subforums.

High Yield Investment Programs = Ponzi, so just call it a Ponzi.  Or better yet, stop nursing those that can't take care of themselves.

If they attack our infrastructure we attack theirs.  If they take down GLBSE we take down NYSE and NASDAQ.  We can make battle cries that will really be heard around the world.

Déjà vu. I've heard these words said by a guy who organized September 11 attacks...

Wow, I did not know you knew OBL and he used bitcoin, or could see ironic jokes.
540  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Ebook publisher on: September 05, 2012, 01:58:42 AM
This is the initial forum to talk about my idea to open an ebook publisher based on bitocins. Still just an idea, let's see what this will be

You should do some surveys on these forums to see what kind of books people have bought in the past 6 months.
