521  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How many people have YOU convinced to start mining with GPUs? on: May 14, 2011, 05:43:43 AM
They are real , in fact fully automatic mil versions have better accuracy because have lower recoil than standard Ak-74s. Civil versions are semis, convert only if you wanna be a part in some local conflict ...

From wikipedia: The AK-47 is a selective-fire, gas-operated 7.62×39mm assault rifle, first developed in the Soviet Union by Mikhail Kalashnikov. It is officially known as Avtomat Kalashnikova. It is also known as a Kalashnikov, an "AK", or, in Russian slang, Kalash.

The rifle you linked is a real firearm, but it is not a real AK-47. It is a semi-auto AK type rifle, and a very nice one at that. But, when I posted about $15,000 AKs, I was speaking about the real thing.
522  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How many people have YOU convinced to start mining with GPUs? on: May 13, 2011, 08:00:28 PM
thats semi-only  Wink

Yeah, that's the law ... Usually you can try to convert it.

Yeah, I was talking about real AKs not AK type semi-auto rifles. As I said, you need to do the paperwork, pay the ATF, and allow them to enter your home any time they wish, and then you can have your fun switch.

Converting it is a bad, bad, bad idea unless you are fond of prison food.
523  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Does anyone know the best GFX card for mining @ $250 or under? on: May 13, 2011, 07:53:37 PM
Thanks for the advice! One more question: which model of the 5870's are better? Im look at HIS (which I heard was the best from someones opinion), XFX, or visiontek?

I would buy the cheapest reference 5870 I could find.
524  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Does anyone know the best GFX card for mining @ $250 or under? on: May 13, 2011, 07:52:15 PM
A unlocked 6950 would be the best. Or a used 5870 if you can find one.

Go for a 5870 new, if not then a used one. Make sure your using a custom fan, not STOCK.

edit: 2x 80mm (or bigger) fans minimum would be good... 3 would be better

Every single one of my 5870s with custom fans run hotter than the ones with reference fans.
525  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will this CA law be a boon for BTC? on: May 13, 2011, 04:05:55 PM
I want a government that is kept honest by a well-informed enpowered population that demands quality for it's tax-money, a government restricted to spending its taxes on public goods and subsidizing the value of non-commodified human existance.

I'm no communist or socialist or anarchist (I'm social democrat) but I am against being ruled by private dynasties and corporations of various kinds lording it over politically unconcious and unempowered populations that vehemently oppose their own interests.

Why do you give examples favorable to your preferences?

Why are people well-informed and empowered when demanding quality for it's tax money, yet they are politically unconscious and "unempowered" when being ruled by private dynasties and corporations?

You assume the best case scenario in arguing for government and assume the worst case scenario in arguing against it.

(Of course you also make the assumption that private dynasties and corporations will even be able to "rule" without a government giving them the power to do so.)

As creighto said, "Have you ever stopped to consider, what if my premises are wrong?"

Real AKs in my land cost 15,000 USD plus a stamp from the ATF that says they can walk around in your bedroom any time they wish.
527  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Water or air cooling? on: May 13, 2011, 03:19:15 AM
hmm, i guess, its just ive heard of some people getting their cards 80-100c and im a bit worried about lifespan etc...

528  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Stop building mining rigs people!!!!! on: May 13, 2011, 03:18:38 AM

529  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How many people have YOU convinced to start mining with GPUs? on: May 13, 2011, 03:16:50 AM
Convincing people it's not illegal? Smoke a joint with them first to ease their fears. If it's a relative, drink a bottle of quality vodka before the joint.
530  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Why is our hashing power declining? on: May 13, 2011, 03:15:16 AM
Why did it go up in the first place?
531  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Water or air cooling? on: May 13, 2011, 03:13:08 AM
Water cooling is a waste of money for mining.
532  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BTC Guild - 0% Fee Mining Pool (Long polling, JSON API) on: May 13, 2011, 03:03:53 AM
So, do you have an ETA for implementing stopped worker emails? This is still the deciding factor for me.
533  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: AMD Catalyst 11.5 Discussion on: May 12, 2011, 05:35:03 AM

534  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Crossfire mining? on: May 12, 2011, 05:30:10 AM
Guys, how to get rid of that "ATI Crossfire could not be enabled" message after Windows boot up?

Install Linux.  Wink

Or don't install Catalyst Control Center...

Welcome back Atlas Smiley

Where've you been?

Lurking, my friend. More consumption, less posting.

Knowledge speaks, wisdom listens.
536  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: AMD Catalyst 11.5 Discussion on: May 12, 2011, 01:26:25 AM
Ahh gee... I have to stop my miners? Damn...
537  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BitCoin and money laundering on: May 12, 2011, 01:25:05 AM
Exactly what do you mean by money laundering?

Turning naughty money into sweet money. If that makes any sense at all!

People have a hard time differentiating between the tool, the crime, and the criminal.
538  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What are you going to do, when (if) bitcoin hit $1000/BTC? on: May 12, 2011, 01:23:18 AM
Spend all my BTC figuring out who in their right mind would buy BTC at $1000/BTC

It's only $1 for 0.001 btc.

It's all about perspective! Good observation.
539  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Cooperative mining (180Ghash/s) on: May 11, 2011, 11:21:01 PM
I have moved 90% of my miners back to Slush since the outage(I have some CPUs in deepbit atm).

Tycho should not be at or near 50% total hash rate for the good of the system.

You complain about network health in the same post that you mention mining for the very pool that you think is a cause for concern...
540  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: New attack vector: Mess with electricity costs to destabilize the BTC Economy? on: May 11, 2011, 11:06:22 PM
Two ways I think the government might attack bitcoin.

Straight up make it illegal. This will be mostly ineffective, but might land some poor souls in jail for nothing.

Demonize it in the media. Make you look like a criminal for using bitcoin.

If they decide it's a threat to status quo, they will probably do both.

Neither or these things will stop people from using bitcoin. I can imagine new three letter agencies popping up to fight the currency of druglords, terrorists, and child predators.

DMS - Department of Monetary Security
CTD - Currency Trafficking Division
DMSEDWWSOE - Department to Make Sure Everyone Does What We Say Or Else  Grin

Hi, I work for the DMS, specifically the CTD, and we've been authorized by the DMSEDWWSOE to confiscate all of your belongings and hold you indefinitely while we conduct further investigations. You have the right to piss your pants.

How do we fight it. Make sure bitcoin is a household name and used by billions ASAP.  Cheesy

Wee fun post.
