I think the profitability calculation for CGB is incorrect.  The reward for CGB is now only 2.5 / block.  Wheretomine.com reports only about half the profitability as the pool.

unknown's share continue to increase.  some hidden mining entity?

Is auto-switch working?  It's mining NVC while LTC is the most profitable right now.

526  Economy / Speculation / Re: The ultimate bitcoin taboo topic on: September 02, 2013, 03:37:34 PM
In the beginning of 'recorded history', most material wealth and power are concentrated in the hands of kings and rulers.  Social mobility through  non-violent means is a relatively recent phenomenon.  It's just an inevitable phase in an any developing domain - founders / early-adapters have some degree of advantage over others.  Eventually, things will work itself out.  Or you are a big supporter of freicoin?
527  Economy / Securities / Re: [BitFunder] Asset Exchange Marketplace + Rewritable Options Trading on: September 02, 2013, 12:59:02 AM
Please note that Ukyo is very unreliable, irresponsible and incompet person.
He makes real troubles for G.ASICMINE-PT holders and DeaDTerra's transfer process:

I have been trying to get a hold of Ukyo for weeks now.
I call him almost every day, I contact him on skype, contact him on IRC etc.
The reason why I have not paid out the dividend is due to a flaw in the system which he must correct before I can pay the dividend.
The reason why the transfer is not complete is due to that he must transfer the asset onto his name and account before I can transfer the shares or I risk breaking the contract.

Please do not send angry PMs to me, there is nothing I can do.
These issues must be solved by the owner and operator of BitFunder, Ukyo!
So please contact him about the issues and not me.
When he has solved the flaw in the system, I will pay the dividend (I already have the BTC ready).
When he has transferred the asset onto his account, then I can transfer the shares and we can start doing imports/exports again.

//DeaDTerra

Just to make this official..

No matter how long it will take to figure out this "mess" with FriedCat (simply can't understand how such mistakes can appear. May be FriedCat simply fight against PT type of shares?) I get up in the queue:

Code:
request 3:42 PM 13.August.2013 - Withdraw *** G.ASICMINER-PT shares to ****aunL2LB7v3KKmVtK5WbWbEZGVy****.

I only hope that this will not be queue like on MtGox -
"never ending or beginning
On an ever been real."
like in "The Windmills of Your Mind" Cheesy
...
Sorry that was wrong request. Here is correct one.
Code:
request 3:42 PM 13.August.2013 - Withdraw ALL G.ASICMINER-PT shares from bitfunder.com "Vezunchik" account to btct.co "Vezunchik" account if possible. If not - to ****aunL2LB7v3KKmVtK5WbWbEZGVy****.

How about withdrawal request? It was two weeks ago...

Aha, and withdrawals? It's too long just for organization difficulties... 17 days!

Again 17 days!

Is is so difficult? You take shares and BTC without any questions and when anyone wants shares back - "transition is taking longer than expected"... Is it fraud or incompetence to manage this business?

Please complete my withdraw request. This delay is unacceptable!

i need this week dividends to buy more shares
pay us  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

i need this week dividends to buy more shares
pay us  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Agreed.  If the dividends were paid on time, I could have afforded 2 shares during the recent panic sales rather than just one.

I'm a little pissed at that.

I understand that both parties involved in the transfer are probably trying to do the right thing, but that is just me guessing since we haven't heard anything from either of them in a while.

What's going on guys?

_theJestre

If you are going to make business you should find time on it. Is so difficult? It looks like full incompetence. 19 days withdraw delay! Makes difficulties for dividends payout. Can't solve problems with friedcat list. And so on...
This person can't be trust, especially when we speak about PT type of asserts!
I can confirm that I now have access to the email account.
I will be generating a new wallet and address and notifying FC today.

-Ukyo

trust from Vezunchik:
Code:
He holds 262 ASICMINER-PT shares bought for ~ @3.75 BTC = 982 BTC from [3:42 PM 13.August.2013] - for 17 days. It also course (3.575-2.75)*262=307.85 BTC loss because this shares were designed as payment in time fixed deal. That deal was paid in BTC. What about shares - he still refuses to withdraw them. (Delete)

DeaDTerra isn't all that good, dividend is always late, look at his SDice passthrough, he didn't even close it properly on the BTCT side.

Can't login to bitfunder, anyone else experiencing issue?
528  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Is Bitfinex technically usury & illegal? on: September 01, 2013, 07:03:16 AM
A lot of things with bitcoin is in legal grey area.  Mining is legal but exchanging it for fiat would require license (according to the FINCEN interpretation).  Are mining pools legal then?  There are so many questions.  Coinlenders, is it legal?  If not, are we in trouble for putting up the link in our signature?

Bitfinex, if you are uncomfortable and think they are potentially illegal, at risk or regulatory shutdown - having your money seized, or even worse, personal criminal / civil liability, then i would refrain from using their platform.  Otherwise, it's a great platform to put your money to work and earning high interest.

Bitfinex is in HK, which inherit most of UK laws, and usury laws were repealed in UK in 19th century.  Their bank account is in China, so good luck with enforcing US laws.
529  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-08-30 Bitcoin: Society's Boon or Bane? on: August 31, 2013, 02:41:27 AM
Consider how western society is primarily based on adversarial system (look at the justice system), democracy is suppose to be citizen voting for those who represent their own self-interest best and capitalism is based on the premise of competition, stating how bitcoin is based on mistrust will doom it is complete BS.
530  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: August 30, 2013, 06:12:23 PM
With the price of shares of AM so closely tied to the btc/fiat rate, it is becoming difficult to calculate the correct ROI, and to determine if it is in fact positive.

At $90 per bitcoin, AM shares averaged around 4.5 each. 4.5 * 90 = $405.

At $120 per bitcoin, AM shares averaged around 3.3 each. 3.3 * 120 = $396.

At $130 per bitcoin, AM shares average around 2.9 each. 2.9 * 130 = $377.

Today:

At $140 per bitcoin, AM shares average around 2.5 each. 2.5 * 140 = $350.

This apparent loss of fiat purchasing power as the price of btc increases may be replaced by the dividends. They are only a few dollars at best per week, but  there are multiple dividends per price period so the accumulation of dividends might offset most of it. Of course, there are other factors such as other IPO, breaking news, FUD, etc. But a clear pattern is establishing itself. Could it be possible that, just like buying an asic (in most cases anymore), you are better off just sitting on your BTC than you are in investing? Help me out here and show me what I am missing.

The bitcoin / AM share price correlation theory again - which I highly doubt.  I think share prices slump because of the low dividend and apparent low share of network hash power.  Even if bitcoin is $45, would you be willing to pay 4.5 BTC for a share that pays out only 0.012 BTC / week?  NO.  Let alone the 9 BTC price base on your theory.

I've noticed a decline in wagered per day volume. I also remember you mentioning that part of the increase in commissions would be spent towards advertising. Have you done any advertising? Are we still losing volume even after advertising?

We've not done any advertising yet.  I feel like it's not worth doing until I've improved the look of the site, and made it easier for new players to get started, or I think visitors would take one look and leave again.

I'm interested to know where you think it would be best to advertise by the way.

reddit tell me they don't advertise gambling sites
google apparently need gambling sites to be licensed in each country their ads are shown in
bitcointalk is relatively expensive with BFL bidding the price of ads right up each week

Gambling volume is negatively correlated to BTCUSD prices, just look at SD's prior performance.

Judging by the price cut, we'll see at least 10x faster blades.

Operation: "Offloading"

Generation 2 confirmed, commencing...

Sources?  Or just speculation?
534  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Is Bitfinex technically usury & illegal? on: August 28, 2013, 03:17:52 AM
I'm not sure usury about lending out USD.  But assuming BTC is treated like security / commodity, I don't think there's a cap on the rate charged.  Interest rate charged can exceed 50% annualized when shorting hard-to-borrow stock.

When will we get the dividend?
536  Economy / Speculation / Re: Date for 12.5 BTC per Block - autmn 2015 on: August 22, 2013, 01:30:33 PM
Let's have some data:
Reward halving occurs every 210,000 blocks.
Currently we are at block 253,606

So we have 210,000 - 43,606 = 166,394 blocks left until the reward halving.

Without any difficulty change:
166,394 at 6 per hour = 1155 days (20.10.2016)

With 15% growth every adjustment = 1155 * 0.85 = 981 days (29.04.2016)

With 25% growth every adjustment = 1155 * 0.75 = 866 days (05.01.2016)

So...uhm how did you calculate to get 2015?

he may assume diff goes up by 50% every adjustment.

http://gigaom.com/2013/08/19/feds-seized-2-9m-in-bitcoin-funds-from-mt-gox-court-docs-show/

"The federal government sent a strong signal to Bitcoin traders earlier this year when the U.S. Department of Homeland Security seized an account belonging to Mt. Gox, the most popular exchange for people to buy and sell the crypto-currency. It was unclear at the time just how much currency the government confiscated.

But a new filing in Baltimore federal court (embedded below) shows the feds seized $2,915,507.40 held in an account controlled by Dwolla, a third-party payment platform similar to PayPal. The funds belonged to Mutum Sigillum LLC, a U.S. subsidiary of Tokyo-based Mt. Gox."

There are 14 million on the bid side, a seizure of 2.9 billion should not leave gox insolvent.

wait till the CRA comes for an audit.
539  Economy / Speculation / Re: What's going on with Cavirtex? 89 CAD per BTC? on: August 17, 2013, 10:50:29 AM
The price on Cavirtex is high and low at the same time, (try buying 30 000$ worth)

Arbitrage anyone ?

With the current orderbook there is ~448$ in bitcoin to be made from moving 15 000$ around (160btc).

1. By the time the money get there the opportunity may be lost.

2. You take the risk the wire transfer get stuck or having your bank account shut down.

3. You increase the risk of having Canada Revenue Agency make some random audit onto you.

4. You pay fees both ways on the exchanges and you pay the fees of a wire transfer. Buying 160b = 2.4B in fees on cavirtex.   selling 155B on bitstamp = ~0.65b Total 2.4+0.65b + 40$ = ~345$.  You now only have ~103$ to gain.

Would you risk #1 2 and 3 for ~100$ ?

Cavirtex's owner would be the one benefiting the most (directly and indirectly) from doing this arbitrage but he doesn't, even with 1.5% less in fees to pay.

Conclusion : Lowering the fees from 3% to 1.5% didn't do much to increase liquidity. Unless Cavirtex owner start doing arbitrage himself he should use the maker-taker approach to attract liquidity providers. http://www.marketswiki.com/mwiki/Maker-taker

well said!

http://bitcoin-analytics.com/

on this site there is the option to see the all USD consolidated order book: go to depth and select allUSD (just for info. I do not have any relationship with this website)

My point is that, to assess the entire bitcoin price direction using order depth, it may be best to look at the entire consolidated order book.

I think this is still skewed somewhat as mtgox has most of the $ / BTC from years of operations which allow them to have a big order book - especially from the USD side.  A more telling picture would be the order book of mtgox vs all others excl. mtgox.  Pretty sure you see huge asks but lower amount of bids (relative) on the other exchanges.

While other exchanges still follow gox price to some extent, in general, the gap in absolute $ and percentage term seems to be expanding.
