Bitcoin will hit $50 this month week.
Probably before I wake up in the morning.

5205  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: VPN Providers (That Accept Bitcoin) on: March 06, 2013, 03:02:15 AM
AirVPN + Tor is perfect.

1. They accept Bitcoins.
2. They use standard OpenVPN software instead of something proprietary or otherwise inferior.
3. They let you map incoming ports.
4. You can connect to them via Tor. This means two things:
 a) It's not possible for them to know where you're connecting from even if they are forced via court order to secretly start keeping logs.
 b) You can still use sites that block Tor exit nodes.

I think that's more specific than you intended. I read it as $999990-$1000010.  Tongue
I know, but I think most people can figure it out.

Was there an insanely huge buy I missed (I'm not watching the charts activley) or is it really just a case of no sellers/sellers caught flat footed?
http://bitcoincharts.com/charts/mtgoxUSD#rg1ztgSzm1g10zm2g25zvzcv
Not insanely huge, but significant.

I agree that 20 years from now one Bitcoin will either be worth $1x10^6 +/-$1x10^1 or worth nothing.
5209  Economy / Speculation / Re: I just don't get it. on: March 06, 2013, 01:15:57 AM
The changes needed to make Bitcoin scale aren't conceptually difficult. The only problem is that for some reason people are opposed to allowing Bitcoin to succeed.
5210  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: March 06, 2013, 12:38:21 AM
The fact that many people seem to have sold at least a bit (myself included) combined with the fact that we're still at $40 should make you think.
Do you watch the fastcash4bitcoins thread? How many times per week does Tangible Cryptography run out of dollars due to high demand?

In spite of all that selling pressure the price is still going up.

That rhythmic 3.5 minute pop song seems more likely to be a "one-hit wonder" than the next ____________ with a long and illustrious music career.
The man has already had a long and illustrious music career.

I would suggest taking out as much of a loan in all categories as you can get, selling all of your possessions, assets, etc. Then buying BTC and filing for bankruptcy. They can't take your Bitcoins, and they will have nothing else to take. Then restart your life with your billions in Bitcoins.
Bankruptcy doesn't clear all categories of loans. You'd have to restart your life in another country, and at that point there's no point mucking around with bankruptcy.

Coinlabs deal could launch this thing further than anyone anticipated. Now there are less coins than before, with demand from longterm users and the continued growth in the userbase.
What's interesting to me is how Coinlab is based out of Silicon Valley and how they mentioned institutional investors.

A lot of public sector pension funds are massively underfunded because of stupid assumptions about stock market growth and are desperate for yield. What if CALPERS wants to hold some bitcoins?

This is what Excel predicts:

5216  Economy / Speculation / Re: Unlikely Bitcoin price will ever surpass $5,000 on: March 05, 2013, 02:14:48 PM
I think there is no reason why they could not co-exist.
In general people only use national currencies because government have thus far been successful at blocking alternatives. If they fail to stop Bitcoin nobody is going to want to be the last person holding government-issued paper.
5217  Economy / Speculation / Re: Unlikely Bitcoin price will ever surpass $5,000 on: March 05, 2013, 02:07:41 PM
Any higher than $100,000,000,000 would mean Bitcoin is being used as a national currency which seems unlikely.
Either Bitcoin fails or national currencies fail.
5218  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: US and Canadian users no longer allowed to use MtGox directly? on: March 05, 2013, 01:29:55 PM
Quote
A venture capitalist backed Bitcoin company wants to make it safe for U.S. and Canadian investors to do large block trades of Bitcoins and keep them ultra-secure from loss. Coinlab has worked for a year to sign an exclusive long term deal with Bitcoin exchange Mt.Gox. The Silicon Valley-based company will take over exchange transactions for all U.S. and Canada clients meaning your money will get moved to a U.S. bank and Coinlab will now be the clearing pool for all peer-to-peer transaction on the Mt.Gox exchange. The safeguards they have set up is a move to drive more U.S. volume in Bitcoins along with paving a way for institutional investors and high net-worth individuals to buy and hold large amounts of the digital currency.
CALPERS?
5219  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Campaign for XBT. A new ISO Currency Code is required for Bitcoin on: March 05, 2013, 01:25:06 PM
I hear you - but it won't happen. BTC belongs to Bhutan. They have a minor currency unit beginning "C" so they are probably already using BTC internally in some of their systems!
Give the exchange rate another few days and the Bitcoin Foundation can just buy Bhutan. Problem solved.
