5201  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Navajo Cryptocurrency – Decentralized Anonymity Through Double Encryption on: March 24, 2015, 05:25:16 PM
HI,

we are currently running 10 server in different locations (different provider in different countries) to keep the subchain network up and running. Every NMG and CSG is able to do it's part on it's own and is randomly chosen in the single send process. so when one is down another takes it's part. We especially took care to always have redundant service to keep it alive in case of hardware failure or attack.

regards
shahim

Hi,
do you mean the navajo company with we?
that is a prime example of centralization. it doesn't matter if the navajo company is running 1 or 10 server.
i.e. every cloudservice is centralized even though they run thousands of servers in different locations of the earth.

you guys have to make it open source and somehow that everyone can participate as NMG and/or CSG, else navajo will be just a coin mixer.

Cryptocard

‘The anon card is ALMOST there. Cut us some slack on that one, if you follow our service you probably noticed that we keep our promises. ETA is a week or two.’

The idea behind the anon card is simple: ‘You send BTC, you get fiat to your card and can withdraw it at an ATM. We want to make the transfers instant. Maybe at the beginning it will take around several hours, but in some time when a user sends his coins he will be getting money to his card immediately.’

This is a very exciting project, and a critical part of the SuperNET/anon ecosystem. Card payment processing profits will go towards dividends for the Coinomat asset. ‘We plan to launch a merchant API right after the card is launched. There will be a separate project; the plug-in has already been coded.’

Users will be able to order cards from Coinomat.com, although the ability may also be integrated in the SuperNET GUI. ‘I think we will reduce the fees as much as possible for SuperNET users. They are bound to one account in a bank, and each card is not tied to its own account. So you don't have a new bank account if you have this card. The card will cost $40.’

Crypto to Visa/Master fees are reduced.
It costs $5 + 3% for all the cryptos now. Transfer takes two business days. The limits are increased up to $10,000 weekly.

5206  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Decentralized and Autonomous? on: March 23, 2015, 10:29:38 AM
btw. What was the ooutcome of your discussion? Mind to share?

My opinion remained the same: It's infeasible to create a full autonomous entity, the creator has to predict all possible situations or create an AI.

I see what you mean, but i think it depends on the working area/goal of the DAC/DAO.
Depending on what it does there could be only very limited possibilities of what can happen.
You could then use a bottom-up design to merge alot of "small" DAC/DAO to a big one without setting a new complexity record or atleast saving some?

well the solution to never becoming the victim again is not to become the perpetrator.

i think every sane person knows that there exist no one state solution to the israel-palistina question.

5209  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ok So I Just Sent £1000 of BTC to a Friend in Northern Namibia.. Now What? on: March 23, 2015, 09:38:59 AM
As some of you guessed I didn't really send £1000 worth of bitcoin to Namibia but what I wanted to do was discuss and highlight the difficulties of using the currency in places where it would be most beneficial.
I am married into a Namibian family. My wife likes to send funds to her parents in Namibia every couple of months. She has been doing this for the last 9 years.

Currently they use one of her bankcards and she has given them her PIN. She uses a UK bank account specifically for the purpose.
So, when she decides she wants to send money she transfers money from regular account to the account her parents have a card for and just does a regular bank transfer. This works fine however she probably shouldn't have given her card and PIN to someone else.

Most people are not in a position to do this.

Prior to doing it this way or if their are some issues with the account she would use Western Union.

I showed her how simple is is to send btc if you have Mycelium installed on your phone. But we were discussing what you would do with it.

At this point LocalBitcoins is proberbly out of the question, The nearest big town is a two hour drive away. Travel to Cape Town involves a flight.
PayPal.. I don't know. I had a bad experience with it related to bitcoin previously.

I guess bitcoin just isn't ready for these communities yet.
OK, So I just sent £1000 of Bitcoin to a friend who is in Northern Namibia (just above South Africa).

He received the funds via an app on his phone - Mycelium..

The problem is we have no idea what to do now. Ideally he needs to transfer the btc to his local currency (NAD) or spend the bitcoin locally but noone there accepts bitcoin. How can we convert this money to something he can actually spend?

Thanks in advance.

 Roll Eyes

My hope for humanity is dying little by little everyday...

what you can do is getting a credit card that you can load with btc or sell btc online/offline for fiat in SA

And he will be able to get one of these credit cards will he.
He doesn't have a proper address,  just a Po box.
Also, he doesn't, Have a Pc, just a phone so can't scan documents unless he goes to an Internet Cafe.
I doubt he even has a passport.

Just for the theory.
Yes your imaginery friend could get himself one with just a photo or soon/already anon prepaid cc's - no id check - that he can load with btc or you could do it and send him.
not a great danger of theft too because you can send a fresh card and load after he received it.
Imho way safer then what your wife is doing right now.

5212  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Bittrex Trading App - marketers needed on: March 22, 2015, 10:41:44 PM
Closed source Trading App with the potential to give you wrong in/output and also the problem of exploits and maleware for a financial stand point this idea is a joke.

The app uses bittrex api keys, the withdraw permission is not required, so there is no way it could steal your funds - even if it wanted to.
The trust you have to have in this app is a lot less than you need for any other entity you leave your funds at, like any exchange, any ICO operation, any escrow, any gambling site, any..... and so on.

Wrong input/wrong output is probably aimed at orders and trading history shown by the app? Well, you can easily verify that this is not the case by simply using an API key with only "Read info" permission.

Regarding malware and exploits, how is this any different from any other app you install from the app store?

You dont except it is open source or yourself reviewed the source ^^

Do you guys plan to make the app for other OS?

5214  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 22, 2015, 01:12:57 AM
I don't know what you mean by "pegged".

i mean the way you evaluate what wealth is. you explain it as the sum of your properties/possessions.
so my interpretation of wealth pegged to real products shouldnt be far off or did i misunderstood you?

To a first approximation, if the dollar lost 90% of its value tomorrow, the US would not become significantly poorer.  Everybody woudl still own the same homes and cars and tamagochis, the same bridges and roads would still be there,  barbers and doctors would still serve as many patients as before.  By hypothesis, all prices would go up 10 times, and thus all salaries and fees would have to do the same.  (In the countries with hyperinflation, most people manageto survive somehow).

i agree that all properties in fact dont change in value and everyone with real estate etc will be on the better side.
but the problem starts when you are using the currency itself especially in foreign trading/importing international goods.
everything becomes 10x more expensive. ergo you are losing your wealth. (most people living on earth manage to survive somehow)

Such a massive devaluation would have plenty of secondary bad effects, for sure.  There would be all sorts of financial disasters due to contracts with fixed payments in the future, dollars held by or owed to foreign parties, etc.. People would need to carry and use a lot more banknotes when paying in cash.  The devaluation presumably would be due to massive emission of new currency by the government, which would result in wealth being taken from citizens, as a form of global tax on money holdings and unindexed credits.  It is these secondary effects that make high inflation and hyperinflation so bad.

But it is precisely because of the possibility of inflation, money printing, and wild excursions in currency exchange rates that one should ignore the money when evaluating a nation's wealth, and focus only on actual things and services.

Of course, central banks and economists who are interested in the money itself, rather than real wealth, will have a different approach.

of course it would make alot of sense, but the world just doesnt work like this.
governments and their money policies just scream for it just in different volumes.
what you perceive as wealth can be taken from you any moment - not sure if you can call that real wealth

i dont think your explanation of wealth pegged to real products works.

(hyper)inflation of national currencys which in the aftermath destroyed whole nations show the opposite.
