5241  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Precautionary Advice Needed on: October 18, 2016, 02:59:02 PM
Where would i be able to find the armorycpplog.txt file?

I want to completely wipe armory 0.93 on my mac and install 0.94
But it my mac says its unable to wipe the program since armorycpplog.txt is open.
Check that you don't have a text editor with the file open. IIRC Macs don't actually close the program when you click the x so it might still be open.
5242  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Moving bitcoins from one wallet to another Bitcoin Core on: October 18, 2016, 12:51:13 PM
You should enable pruning. This will delete the vast majority of the historical blockchain and free up a lot of space for you. Just add this line to the bitcoin.conf file:
Code:
prune=550
5243  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Verifying Bitcoin Core on: October 18, 2016, 03:44:37 AM
does this update require resyncing the blockchain?
No. It can and will use any previously downloaded data and your previously used wallets as it did before.
5244  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Sent bitcoin to wrong address and currently 0 confirmations on: October 18, 2016, 03:44:02 AM
The address is completely and absolutely invalid. If the transaction even exists, then the address will not be the one he thinks it is.
Not necessarily. Since only the checksum was affected, it's likely the wallet decoded the public key hash correctly (in which case the transaction is valid and sent the coins to correct address despite the typo), but without checking the checksum at all. Other sorts of typos will not be so fortuitous, and are very likely to lose money. The wallet is not just broken, it's criminally incompetent and the developers should be beaten with rusty chains.
No, not only the checksum is affected. The entire pubkeyhash is completely different without that character. Try it yourself with https://gobittest.appspot.com/Address
5245  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Sent bitcoin to wrong address and currently 0 confirmations on: October 18, 2016, 01:10:51 AM
The odds of the address missing a character passing the validation checksum check are pretty small. What wallet are you using? Can you provide the addresses?

Does the transaction show up anywhere else? What were the fees?

See e.g. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1026.0
I could not check the address 1D3kVrgh71gCFaQerj2eZUboSPeQdwTUQ in some block explorer but according to this explorer
http://blockr.io/address/info/1D3kVrgh71gCFaQerj2eZUboSPeQdwTUQ
There still no transaction made or receiving transaction.. i think it can be still reverse once if its not receive any confirmation..
Can you provide the address if where the bitcoin from?
The address is completely and absolutely invalid. If the transaction even exists, then the address will not be the one he thinks it is.

What is the txid of the transaction?
5246  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Sent bitcoin to wrong address and currently 0 confirmations on: October 18, 2016, 12:44:02 AM
Hey guys,
So i mistakenly sent my bitcoins to a wrong address.

Lets say the intended address is: 1D3kVrgh71gCFaQerj2eZUboSPeQdwTUQH

I missed out the H at the end and send it to: 1D3kVrgh71gCFaQerj2eZUboSPeQdwTUQ

My wallet currently says 0 confirmations after 4 hours.. is there anything i can do?

Thanks in advance!
Your wallet is broken. It should not allow you to send to the address with a character missing because that is not a valid address. It is invalid, the transaction is invalid, which is why the transaction is not confirmed.

What wallet are you using?
5247  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Precautionary Advice Needed on: October 17, 2016, 03:14:51 PM
Will copying the "Bitcoin" folder (which is massive) cause the actual original file to become corrupted? I am treating the blockchain data like fragile glass. It took way too long to download and yes i spent most of the time looking at it. I cannot risk it to become corrupted when i run armory.
It should not cause it to become corrupted. Just make sure that both Bitcoin Core and Armory are not running and that you don't have an antivirus that is scanning that data.

And secondly, can i just paste the copied file in the documents directory without making my system melt.

PS. Im using a fairly new mac (desktop).
Should be able to.
5248  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Parent transaction confirmed and added fee also but txn unconfirmed on: October 17, 2016, 03:13:56 PM
Your fee is not enough. You are paying ~26 satoshis/byte. The current recommended fee is 100 satoshis/byte according to http://bitcoinfees.21.co/
5249  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Can quantum computers kill Bitcoin? on: October 17, 2016, 12:23:46 PM
It means that the PoW will change from being practically optimization free,
as currently the case with near-optimal ASICs, to becoming extremely optimization prone,
with huge advantages available only to the most advanced and well-funded organizations
(like your favorite 3-letter agency).

That is, mining power will go from fairly decentralized to absolutely centralized.

A post-quantum bitcoin will need to move away from Hashcash to some asymmetric PoW.
Simply increasing the key space of the hash to say, 512 bits, would provide us the same security as 256 bits does today. Hashcash would not be dead, we would just need to have larger key spaces.

I don't think that the QC mining will increase the difficulty and let the blocks stay the same size. Because QC for now are reaaaaaaally rare and that's means that only few can afford to use them and few + bitcoin node are already a problem, so I don't think it will be accepted the worsening of the situation.
The difficulty and the block size have nothing to do with each other. Do not conflate the issues.
5250  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: old wallet not working anymore on: October 17, 2016, 05:26:13 AM
Did you check the file permissions? It should be under the "security" tab of the properties dialog. You need to make sure that your user account can write to that file.
5251  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Bitcoin Tipping Addresses - New Bitcoin Addresses for every donation on: October 16, 2016, 09:39:17 PM
I like how you used the "tip me" button at the bottom of the page Smiley

Let's say I am using a wallet that doesn't have support for bitcoin links or my browser does not support external protocol requests. Is there still a way to get the bitcoin address?
If you look at the link, it has a ?redirect on the end of it. If you remove that and then go to the link, the page will just show you the address.
5252  Other / Meta / Re: Sending P.M to yourself ? on: October 16, 2016, 08:00:26 PM
It's just like being able to email yourself. It's useful for saving things that you might need (like a stock response). I have also found this useful for doing some testing with BBCode but without having to make a thread.
5253  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Don't relay blocks from ViaBTC & Bitcoin.com ? on: October 16, 2016, 07:55:13 PM
But if two blocks are mined almost at the same time (by two different pools), then in my understanding the one is going to be accepted which propagates faster across the network.  Or is this BS  Grin?
The one that is accepted is the one that other miners build on top of. The propagation does matter, but if no miner builds on top of the block, then even if it has propagated very well, the block can still be orphaned.

In theory you could do this. You would have to modify the block verification logic to check for ViaBTC's addresses or their "signature" in the coinbase script. Then you could reject the block as invalid and thus prevent your node from relaying the block.
5254  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: old wallet not working anymore on: October 16, 2016, 07:49:03 PM
It's failing to add a key to your wallet. Check your permissions on that wallet.dat file and make sure that your user can both read and write to it.

Also check that you have enough disk space and that the drive isn't full.
5255  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: old wallet not working anymore on: October 16, 2016, 06:20:56 PM
Thank you very much for you answer, but the same is happening again.
It loads several weeks of blockchain.
Then again error.

 Huh
Try again but with -salvagewallet instead.

Can you also post the entire debug.log?
5256  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Precautionary Advice Needed on: October 16, 2016, 04:52:44 PM
Ok, it appears im all set. One last question.

Which version of Armory will best work with Bitcoin Core 0.13.0 ?

PS. Bitcoin 0.13.0 is the version which i have spent 4 days downloading and it is the latest version, so please please please say it will work with Armory.
PS. Im using a mac.
Use the latest versions (0.94.1 and Core 0.13.0). They work.
5257  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory Problem - Possibly lost some Bitcoins on: October 16, 2016, 04:17:28 PM
OK i cant seem to find 0.94 armory anywhere. On the armory site, it only goes up to version 0.93.

5258  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: old wallet not working anymore on: October 16, 2016, 03:56:51 PM
Start Bitcoin Core with the -upgradewallet option. See https://achow101.com/2016/07/Bitcoin-Core-Troubleshooting#option-startup for help with that.
5259  Other / Meta / Re: How can i recover my account on: October 16, 2016, 03:26:30 PM
There is no date on your ban; you are permanently banned. Any accounts that you use to post or PM will also be banned (with the exception of this ban appeal thread). You will not be unbanned.

If it is possible i would like to hear moderator's word on my main account, please. Do i have any chance getting it back, please ? I still cannot understand why there was no warning like 7-day ban for the account with higher rank than Newbie. Acc id is 226722.
Thanks and sorry for breaking rules of BTC.
PM spam is very different from normal spam. It is handled by the admins, not mods.
5260  Bitcoin / Project Development / [Site closed] Bitcoin Tipping Addresses-New Bitcoin Addresses for every donation on: October 16, 2016, 02:34:14 PM
I have decided to close down the website. The project and this thread remains open for whoever wishes to run their own site.

Today I am announcing another project of mine.

Bitcoin Tipping Addresses lets you enter in a BIP 32 Extended Public Key or a list of addresses and it will give you some code that you can embed on any website, forum, github, or Reddit. This code will always show the next address in the list that has not received any Bitcoin. It lets you not need to reuse addresses for receiving donations.

The website is https://bittipaddress.com

How It Works

You simply enter a BIP 32 Extended Public key or a list of addresses that you want to use. Then you get code that you can embed on any website, forum, github, or reddit. This code links back to the server which will either display the correct address or provide a redirect to the Bitcoin URI of the latest empty address.

You can also change the addresses afterwards if necessary. You will receive an ID and a password which will allow you to edit the parameters of your unit.

Embedded code

There are three codes that you can embed. Here are examples of the three. Currently only HTML will show the actual address. The BBCode and Reddit ones will only show a link to a Bitcoin URI which will open the wallet for the user.

HTML (websites and most Markdowns):
Code:
<iframe src="http://bittipaddress.com/bittipaddr/addressfor/da7ir8dl" style="border:none;" scrolling="no"></iframe>

BBCode (forums):
Code:
[url=http://bittipaddress.com/bittipaddr/addressfor/da7ir8dl?redirect]Tip Me![/url]
Tip Me!

Reddit:
Code:
[Tip Me!](http://bittipaddress.com/bittipaddr/addressfor/da7ir8dl?redirect)

Source Code

This project is open source and available at https://github.com/achow101/bittipaddr. The project is written in Java and uses the Google Web Toolkit, BitcoinJ, Amazon Web Services' DynamoDB, and BlockcCypher's API.
