5341  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Risk assesment of hardware-based exploits on the network on: March 07, 2022, 01:52:54 PM
Unfortunately today processor is dominated by Intel, AMD and ARM, so there's nothing much regular user could do. While open source alternative such as RISC-V exist, it's not very competitive in terms of price and performance. The only good news is Bitcoin Core already support RISC-V architecture and few linux distro have guide to run itself on RISC-V.
Nvidia was recently hacked and it was interesting to hear request from hackers.
They asked Nvidia to release their code and everything else with FOSS license for all operating systems Linux, Mac and WiNd0ws, or they will release all schematics, blueprints, code, etc in public.
Nvidia refused to do what they asked, so I think we can expect to see cheap asian knock-offs soon, that are going to be much cheaper than original Nvidia.
RISC-V AI Chips are open source but they are working with Intel on some projects, so you know how the money flow goes Wink
5342  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Writing down seed phrase: printer ink or pen ink ? on: March 07, 2022, 01:40:41 PM
I remember Trezor offered a backup method that requires 'x out of y' backup sheets with a variable x or y based on your needs.  I can not remember the name of this method however, although I do think the name was something similar to 'Schnorr'.  Maybe someone with more knowledge can help me with the confirmation that this method is safer and less vulnerable than a 3 out of 3 sheets setup?
This is called Shamir Secret Sharing scheme and it is used by Trezor Model T, Keystone hardware wallets and I think Airgap wallet is using something similar.
I consider this to be poor man alternative to multisig setup, and this is not safer in any way compared to multisig, with one big flaw single point of failure.
You can see comparison for this two methods with more details in my topic Multisig VS Shamir Secret Sharing.

5343  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: The role of crypto exchanges in this war after removing the Russia from Swift on: March 07, 2022, 01:11:46 PM
All this shitty situation is going perfectly in favor of China who are still remaining weirdly quiet, but they have several alternative options for SWIFT.
They even have system called UnionPay that can be used as alternative for MasterCard and Visa, and they have agreement cooperation with big countries like India and Russia.
I don't think they will switch to using crypto exchanges for several reasons, one of them is not having full control over them, except if they are used only for trading centralized government garbage coins.
I wouldn't trust any centralized exchange and it's always better to have coins on your own wallet that you can control.
5344  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: www.bitcou.com ??? on: March 07, 2022, 01:01:50 PM
No valid SSL certificate and 0 Trustpilot reviews. Makes me sceptic a little bit.
Anyone can confirm this or tell me that I am wrong?
I am not sure if this website is a scam but it does look sketchy, and it's not that hard to get free SSL certificate in 2022.
There are no updates from their social media accounts for months or more and they seem to be focused more on German language market gift cards.
It's not worth a risk unless you want to do some testing and lose money in process.
5345  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Why I wouldn't buy Ledger Nano S ever again? on: March 06, 2022, 10:13:54 PM
If only one word became unreadable (which I doubt), then could try to enter both variants of words into the passphrase. One of them would definitely fit. In this case, I would start with word "climb".
I also think the hidden word was climb... now I feel like I am in ledger tv quiz.
This was not the problem with only one word... display is fried and unusable (common issue for ledger nono S) so all words are missing some parts, but some of them are easier to read than others.
Whatever hardware wallet you own it would be a good idea to have one back-up wallet (maybe even from different manufacturer), just in case you need to send your coins quickly.
5346  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor - seed extraction on: March 06, 2022, 10:07:44 PM
It would be easy to change it, but of course installing custom build firmware removes seed.
Some hardware wallets have option for revealing seed words on display, I think it's Coldcard wallet and maybe some others, but you first need to know or hack PIN code.
I don't know how this works and I don't have the skills to examine and try what you want, and I doubt many people on earth can do what you want.
I know Kraken team was also doing testing like this, along with ledger donjon and other unknown people.
5347  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: How do you differentiate two same hardware wallets? on: March 06, 2022, 10:01:04 PM
Rule number one for all crypto dummies out there is NEVER use the same pin or password multiple times, and it seems that I have to repeat this all the time.
I know some people who in 2022 still use only one password for all websites and their accounts, just because it's easy to remember  Roll Eyes
If I tell them to use different passwords and password managers, they say it's hard, but people like this get hacked so easy all the time.
5348  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum sent transaction lost on: March 06, 2022, 09:56:20 PM
The I have not received the bitcoin and the transaction info says it's confirmed 400+ times.
It shows transaction ID & output.
Nothing is lost in Electrum, and you didn't say where exactly you saw this 400 times confirmed transaction.
It would help if you post your transaction or post screenshots, nobody here is prophet to see what happened in your case.

Is there any way to see to which wallet/websites I have sent my crypto? I have another wallet, kraken and aanother website I usually use but none of these have received crypto. What do I do?
Kraken is not a wallet, this is centralized exchange and you have no control over coins there.
Same things with all other exchanges, websites and non-custodial wallets.
You have addresses in Electrum wallet and you can tag them to identify where exactly you sent coins, or from what source you receive them.
5349  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: cannot restore wallet from seed on: March 06, 2022, 09:51:01 PM
When I restore wallet with my seed I get 0 bitcoins on it. I'm trying to find out what is wrong but I don't understand few things.
I can see that address starting with 15TR still has some coins and only one transaction from 2017, so your issue could be one of several things.
Either you didn't wait until wallet is synced or you used different seed words that are not generating same address.

how can I confirm that restored wallet is the correct one that received transaction on the link above?
Anyone, including me, can confirm that with any blockchain explorer from transaction link you posted.
What address you used and how you generated it is totally different question and only you can answer this.

is the seed case sensitive? my noted seed has got 12 words all lowercase only one word I have written down is with first letter capital. Does it matter? When I'm recovering wallet in electrum it does let me to restore wallet when I change letter to capital or lowercase but if I change the letter to different one it does not allow me to continue. Seems like it is case insensitive?
What wallet you exactly used for generating seed words?
Most seed words are lowercase, including most used BIP39, except if people are using some custom words that only complicates thing and I don't recommend doing that.
I don't think this is the problem in your case.

if I get my wallet restored correctly, how do I verify that someone hasn't got hold of my wallet and didn't transfer bitcoin out of my wallet? If the restored wallet is the one I expect would I see the transaction history in electrum with all transfers in and out?
If coins are still on your address (check with blockchair or other explorer) that probably means that nobody stole them from you.
Don't complicate things by asking so many questions, and first answer what was asked from you.
5350  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Cryptocurrency is too small for Russia - Binance CEO on: March 06, 2022, 09:31:14 PM
Never trust anything that CZ is saying, he is like chameleon and changes his story every day, so I won't be surprised if he comes in few weeks with announcement of blocking all accounts from Russia.
From news I was reading they are going to start working with Chinese banking system with their own credit cards, and they are totally separate from swift and mastercard/visa.
Nobody is talking about banning China because they can't, and CZ is from that same country.

Preporuka da pogledate The Tinder Swindler.

5352  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: If I create new account (on HW wallet), will I generate a new seed pharse ? on: March 05, 2022, 10:38:23 PM
I would like to ask, if I create "new account" on hardware wallet, does it means that I generate also new seed for this new account (and all currenties which account contains) or I have only one seed pharse for whole
Trezor is using same seed words when you create new accounts, and you can also add multiple passphrases as a soil for creating new hidden accounts for improving security.
You can always reset and wipe your Trezor device and generate (or import) new seed words with new accounts, just keep backup words safe on paper or metal plates.
Not that I think they have some limitation for creating up to ten accounts for each cryptocurrency in your wallet.
They recently added custom backgrounds so you can make difference between accounts much easier.

5353  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor - seed extraction on: March 05, 2022, 10:26:19 PM
Is there any "legal" way to retrieve (again) the seed, after Initial Backup process has finished?
If you already have backup words written on paper just use that.
It would be stupid for anyone to trust only their hardware device as only source for keeping seed phrase, especially without pasphrase.

I am aware of some "hacking" ways, brute-forcing PIN etc., is there any way how to do it with Suite? Or any other kung-fu way, even with firmware modification, but purely programmatically?
Be serious please... or ask Kingin or other developers who hacked Trezor before.
Trezor fixed previous bugs so it would be much harder to repeat something like that again.
This is not a trivial task and certainly can't be performed by weekend forum warrior hacker.

5354  Other / Archival / Re: Complex password is the key to security on: March 05, 2022, 10:01:38 PM
Having strong password is very important, but it's best not to use same password multiple times on different websites, and you would be surprised how many people are doing that.
I would not try to remember many complex passwords, except maybe one master passwords and all other passwords should be saved in KeePass or some other open source password manager.
I think that passphrases are easier to remember and they can be very strong, considering that random is not always truly random when you are generating password.
5355  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: "Bitcoin" vs "bitcoin" | Do we know the difference? on: March 05, 2022, 09:07:01 PM
I don't think there is much difference how you write word Bitcoin, starting with capital letter or even in all caps, it's one and the same thing.
Original Bitcoin logo is always written in lowercase same as units, but in English language even days are started with capital letter so I see why not use that for Bitcoin also Wink
5356  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Why I wouldn't buy Ledger Nano S ever again? on: March 04, 2022, 09:43:23 PM
Good question asked by one guy from ledger reddit channel regarding broken ledger nano S screen, something that is happening much more often than you may think.
If something like this happened to your device it's making it almost unusable and only thing you could do is buying new display replacement.
Anyway, do you think word #14 in this case is climb or clump (both of them can be found in bip39 word list)?

5357  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano X & S - Dogecoin Account Issue - Error Unexpected '<' - No Fix on: March 04, 2022, 08:21:46 PM
Does Ledger Wallet is still usefull and safe if we can not manage our accounts anymore with it?
I keep saying that ledger wallets are dog shit, especially if you are using them for any shitcoins that all have different derivation paths and they could be incompatible.
They had problem with some coin apps in past, or update could make impossible to sign transaction, and there is no fix for that except waiting for devs to update.
Your coins should be safe if you store backup words in safe place, and I guess you could always try importing them in other wallets.
You could try to reset and uninstall than install everything as a last step, if you didn't do that already.

Is there better harware wallet at this time?
There are much better hardware wallets, that are open source, but I am not sure how many of them are supporting shitcoins like Dogecoin.
I am sure that Trezor One and Trezor Model T support coin you want, but I would suggest adding passphrase to make your account more secure.
Good thing about Trezor is that there is no separate app for each coin and that usually means less issues.
5358  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Foundation Passport (FE) hardware wallet review and walkthrough on: March 04, 2022, 08:08:34 PM
Let's see what else they can tell us about them next week; fortunately you can cancel the preorders at any time..
I see many people commenting how they like the new design and I guess it's always going to be something like that when someone is creating redesigned device.
Best thing would be to have smaller group of testers who would provide feedback before main release, that way most of the issues would be avoided.
I think that crypto crowdsourced projects are totally different from normal tech industry, but on positive side look what ledger did with many millions they collected, they created worst X crap ever.
Let's wait few more days to see more information and better image previews.
5359  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Accepting Bitcoin donation anonymously on: March 04, 2022, 07:56:03 PM
using a non kyc custodial service on telegram (I know there are a few reputable ones in operation since years. They really work and never heard of a scam there!).
I would never suggest anyone to use any telegram service or groups if they want to use something non-custodial and non-kyc.
Telegram account is directly connected with your phone number and IP address location, and they don't have any encryption in chats or in groups, so everything is public and stored on their servers.
Some say that secret chat has some encryption, but this is questionable, can't be verified and it's only available on mobile devices.

Other than Localcryptos and other similar p2p trading website, there is also decentralized exchange called Bisq, but I am not sure if there is liquidity for specific region.
You can always start your own trade and call people to join with adding more liquidity, and this is one of the best ways for trading.
Your keys, your coins and fiat currency method of your choice.
5360  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How to avoid re-downloading full blockchain node? on: March 04, 2022, 03:34:47 PM
Here why does it request the full chain download again? is there anyway to avoid blockchain re-download when switching between two machines?
I don't know what kind of drive you are using with USB connection, but if it's regular USB stick drive this is not a good option for keeping all bitcoin blockchain.
Unless you are using some external SSD drive or USB SSD stick that has much higher speed than regular usb drives, something like  Sandisk Extreme pro or similar.
Even regular HDD mechanical drives are much faster than most USB drives and they can work for bitcoin blockchain.
Easy option would be to use some hardware wallet to avoid all this hustle.
