5341  Other / Meta / Re: Do we need merit sources for low ranks? on: February 15, 2020, 07:25:46 PM
Merit sources specifically for lower-ranked members:  mediocre idea.
Merit sources stepping up meriting lower-ranked members:  great idea.

I definitely try to favor the lower ranks when spreading merits around, but if I had the task of only giving merits to Jr. Members for example, I'd have a really, really tough time doing it--and I probably wouldn't be alone unless there was some relaxing of standards.  That would go against the spirit and intent of the merit system and personally I wouldn't do it.

I think what we need is a better sense of who's going undermerited and which members need merits to rank up.  I think LoyceV has a thread going, and I've taken a couple of members under my wing (so to speak), but I wish there was a better way for me to be directed to good posts that need merits.  There probably isn't a better way, unfortunately.

Edit:  Ah, Coin-1 has a thread that's helpful that I forgot about.  It just got bumped and thus helped me remember it.
5342  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mail Bombing in exchange of Bitcoin on: February 15, 2020, 07:01:07 PM
PS: I'm gonna delete this if it was off-topic
Definitely not off-topic and I'm glad you made this thread since I wouldn't have found out about this otherwise.

What is this guy thinking?  I get why he's asking for bitcoin, as it's anonymous and he probably thinks the cops or government are just going to send it to his wallet and he can disappear with his digital riches--but there's no way the authorities would ever go for such a deal.  They never have, never will.  If they did, there would be no stopping anybody from pulling the same bullshit.

The only thing accomplished here is to give bitcoin a black eye, because I'm sure there are some news sites/shows/whatever that are playing up that angle of the story.  It's not even relevant what form of payment this dick is asking for; the unwashed, unthinking, uncritical masses will have yet more proof of how evil bitcoin is.  Ugh.
5343  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to Earn Bitcoin in 2020 on: February 15, 2020, 06:03:49 PM
To be frank, I don't really like this non-original article.
Um, yeah....it's the same information you could have gotten in 2016, 2015, and actually as far back as signature campaigns go.  Nothing new here.  This thread probably belongs in the B&H section.  The forum used to be flooded with "how I earnz BTC?" threads for quite a while, but I haven't seen many of them lately since I have the B&H section on ignore.

Anyway, everything here is valid but all the info is unoriginal and can easily be searched for on the forum.
5344  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BTC ATM's installation and business model, any advice? on: February 15, 2020, 03:13:34 PM
Good luck, OP.  It sounds like you're ambitious and that's good.

I don't know anything about running a bitcoin ATM, but my advice to you is to make sure your machine is working and perhaps try to get it in a visible area.  As I've written in other threads, there's one in my town but it's in the back of a liquor store and when I went to go use it, it kept giving me an error--and the store employees sounded like that wasn't the first time something went wrong with it.

It was very frustrating and that kind of crap will turn people off of using an ATM.  I think pretty much everything else is outside of your control if you're buying a machine from a manufacturer because I'm sure you won't be able to modify the software or go against the laws of your government as far as KYC stuff goes.

Again, best of luck to you and I hope you get one going.  I'd love to hear some followup if you do.
5345  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Sending Bitcoin safely through snail mail? on: February 15, 2020, 12:55:25 AM
Depends on which country you're in, because there are some whose mail services are anything but secure.

And in any country, sending bitcoin on an SD card or a seed phrase in poem form or whatever isn't completely safe unless you can encrypt the seed such that nobody could crack it.  I'm not a computer geek, but I think that's entirely possible and if so, the most you'd lose is a storage device--I'd assume you'd have access to the private keys yourself?

5346  Economy / Reputation / Re: Spineless cowards making posts on: February 15, 2020, 12:46:32 AM
I don't blame them for using an alt to make that post.
I get Yahoo62278's point, though I also understand why Justice_ used an alt account to complain about not getting paid--if he did it from his main account, he likely thinks he's running the risk of being blacklisted.

On the other hand, it's a ridiculous complaint to begin with since Hhampuz bears absolutely zero responsibility to pay campaign participants if the campaign wallet hasn't been topped up by the owners.  Frankly, I wouldn't worry about an alt account being used here and I'd just address his concerns on their merit.  Justice_ is obviously pissed off and it looks like he has a right to be--but he's directing his ire in the wrong direction; it should be aimed at blender.io and not Hhampuz.

The situation has been resolved. What is the problem?
Ah. Then I'd probably just let this rest, although Justice_ was being a bit of a jackoff by getting steamed at Hhampuz.  Yahoo62278 is just feeling the need to defend Hhampuz, that's my guess as to what's going on here.
5347  Economy / Reputation / Re: daddy issue or schooling? on: February 14, 2020, 11:17:40 PM
that was because she was cuckolding you and sucking on my penis every friday you fucko!
Yeah, knowing her I wouldn't doubt it--though she'd have had a long plane ride on Thursdays I think.  I never found any suspicious substances on her face or anything like that, but I have been duped by women many times before.

And boy, TMAN.  You might really have some big dong daddy issues after all.  Maybe you can find a psychotherapist who accepts bitcoin?  If you do, I'll be happy to jump on the couch with you.  lol
5348  Other / Meta / Re: Banned ! You are idiots = Is multi account forbidden?! on: February 14, 2020, 11:10:12 PM
your other accounts will now be tagged.
Eh, how do we know he really owns those accounts?  This could be a sly little revenge scheme here, though I really don't know what to make of it.

If he really does own accounts that are several years old and is just now asking a question like this, my guess is that he bought those older accounts.  Wouldn't surprise me in the least, nor that he got at least one of them banned.  But I'd be careful tagging the accounts he listed in the OP, because who knows if he controls them.
5349  Economy / Reputation / Re: Exclusion reason of Royse777 on: February 14, 2020, 10:57:19 PM
I didn't follow that BestChange thread and don't really know what the drama there is about, though I did take a peek and saw that they're not using an escrow--but in any case my opinion is this:  DT members rotate through and there's been a lot of change as far as what the list looks like, and no member is going to exhibit perfect characteristics of what it should mean to be on DT.

So even if Royse777 changed some of his feedback and excluded a member for personal reasons, so what?  We've seen DT members do that before, many times.  DT members have been known to engage in vendettas and all sorts of other crap--but as long as their judgement is usually very good, and bad judgement isn't a pattern I don't see what the problem is.  So I think Royse777 is totally fine on DT unless someone can point me to an egregious error that he made, but I don't think there is one.

I have just had a message off forum that explains Royse777 actions, it seems he has been a cunt all his life, from pre school to school <snip>
If you feel like it, can you drop me a PM with some info on why he might not be a good fit for DT (or post it here)?  It's hard to glean the facts with all the vitriol flying about.
5350  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Craig W. only claims to be Satoshi, because he knows the real Satoshi is dead? on: February 14, 2020, 10:06:28 PM
To me Craig is an opportunist. He saw an opening and just barged in.
I don't really follow the whole "who's Satoshi?" drama, but what you say could well be true.  OP's point from 2 years ago is that CW is only an opportunist because he knows Satoshi is dead or otherwise isn't coming back (I think that's his point, anyway).  I hadn't thought of that, and it's an interesting proposition.

Though I'm at best mildly curious as to who Satoshi is, it would be really interesting if his identity were finally made known--and I have a feeling it will be eventually.
5351  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is Bitcoin about to see a strong upward move - Analyst on: February 14, 2020, 09:37:04 PM
So the author of this article thinks that the market is basically a war? Grin If there was really a battle between buyers and sellers, then nobody would buy and sell and the market will be dead.
Lol.  The quality of this analysis might have something to do with this:

Source: Reddit article

Anyway, I'd say this is probably old news at this point because bitcoin seems to be on the runway just waiting to take off--and there's already been a "strong upward move".  The only question I have is how high it's going to go and how long it'll continue.  The best time to have been buying bitcoin was when it was crashing below $7k, but I'd also say that now wouldn't be a bad time either--you just might not make as much profit, but you'll still make a profit anyway.
5352  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: A good book to learn how to trade. on: February 14, 2020, 09:27:40 PM
This has been a topic of quite a few threads since I've been a member here, and you might want to search for "books" in Bitcoin Discussion and/or Trading Discussion, because I've seen lots of recommendations.

I've always suggested Reminiscences of a Stock Operator by Edwin Lefèvre--even though the book is really old and is about stock and commodity trading, it's a very interesting and entertaining read.  Jesse Livermore was doing TA well before computers existed, and he was pretty successful at it (except for the times when he went bankrupt....and committed suicide).

On a related note, I started reading Digital Gold by Nathaniel Popper.  It doesn't have anything to do with trading, but it's all about bitcoin and so far I'm really enjoying it.

One of the biggest mistakes you are doing is comparing bitcoin trading with stock trading. They are not the same. They don't exhibit the same behavior at all.
I disagree with that, and I'd also suggest that any similarities depend on which stock you're talking about.  The behavior may not be identical, but if you're using TA you could probably apply it to both markets (and I think it's useless in both as well).
5353  Economy / Reputation / Re: daddy issue or schooling? on: February 14, 2020, 07:50:02 PM
I had a good friend from college who used to greet me with "what's up, fuckface?" whenever I would see him.  I actually had a girlfriend who would say much the same thing, too, but that's another story.  Some people use profanity as terms of endearment, some use it as a defense mechanism.  I don't know what TMAN uses profanity for, but personally I find it amusing--but I can certainly see how it's not everyone's cup of tea.

But yeah, if what TMAN writes in his/her posts bothers you, just use that excellent ignore button and it'll all go away.  You'd be missing out on some real gems, though.
5354  Economy / Reputation / Re: Vod's Change on: February 14, 2020, 08:57:23 AM
I find any kind of dishonesty to be untrustworthy.
Eh, I don't necessarily go along with that because I've dealt with enough people to know that everyone lies at some point, including law enforcement people, politicians, and lots more.  If I only trusted people who were never dishonest there's no way I'd be able to trust anyone.  It's just not that black and white and if you try to make it that way, you'll just end up frustrated and discontented--which sounds like it sums up your feelings with respect to bitcointalk as of late.

Glad you didn't leave, Vod.  I've always had respect for you and your high level of integrity.  None of us are perfect of course, but you've been busting real and potential scams since well before I arrived here and have done a great job, and I know I'm not the only one who thinks that.

I'm amazed at the level of free speech here and how he mostly does not get involved.
That's one of the best aspects of the forum IMO.  You don't find this kind of freedom on many other forums.

Also, I sure as hell wouldn't blame you if you took a break from scam busting or ditched it altogether.  You did it for longer than most human beings would.

Edit:

Oh shit, I totally missed the part where Vod said he had a stroke--I'm so sorry to hear that, but I'm glad it wasn't fatal.  Take care of yourself, Vod.  Don't worry about the scam busting one bit.  We can pick up the slack, though nobody here can fill your shoes.
5355  Economy / Reputation / Re: Was VOD's account hacked? or has he had some kind of stress related breakdown?? on: February 14, 2020, 08:22:07 AM
Meanwhile,  I suggest strongly VOD is retired from DT.
You're on ignore but I had to peek, and the above snippet is your real motivation behind this thread, not to help Vod or anyone else.  Nor are you fooling anybody by typing all this madness from a brand new account.  We all know who you are, and you've fulfilled my prediction that your posts would become long, rambling screeds within days.

Just go away like you said you were going to.  Nobody needs this crap, especially not with all the oxytocin-induced lovey-doveyness that's been spreading around the forum like it was the 1960s all over again.  Your crap sticks out like a sore bum by comparison.
5356  Economy / Exchanges / Re: 2020 Crypto debit cards situation on: February 14, 2020, 05:55:34 AM
I have nothing great to contribute to this thread, as I've never used a bitcoin debit card and don't care to--however, I recall DaveF mentioning that he often uses one and I think he said it's through Xapo (yeah, remember them?).  I also seem to remember him saying it's only available in the US, but I don't know the details.

This thread is interesting reading for me anyway because of things like this:
I am currently using VISA Bitcoin debit card from Coinbase.

I think it's great that Coinbase has something like that, because they're probably the most popular exchange for the average person just getting into bitcoin and looking to buy some through a good exchange.  And the reason I think it's good is that it makes it so much easier for bitcoin newbies to spend their coins if they want to, which might well increase adoption in the long run.  Anyway, much like bitcoin ATMs which I don't seem to ever use, I hope to see more btc debit cards in the future.  Cool stuff.
5357  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Tony Hawk foundation accepting Bitcoin! on: February 14, 2020, 04:24:49 AM
Shouldn't really be a surprise now to be honest. Tony Hawk has been pretty open for a while now that he's holding bitcoin.
It's a surprise to me since I don't follow what he's been up to since the 1980s (lol).  Not kidding, though.  I didn't realize he was in to bitcoin and that's pretty cool to find out.  I was not a skater as a kid but I certainly knew who he was 30+ years ago and have mucho respect for him, as he's one of the most straight-laced skateboarders ever and is a pretty good role model for kids.

He's also crazy wealthy as far as I know and has been for a long time.  I'm curious to know how much crypto he owns, though I don't suspect I'll find that fact out unless someone knows and can tell us.
5358  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Anypay’s CEO Says Bitcoin is Worthless For Payment; Disables BTC Payment on: February 14, 2020, 02:33:24 AM
I haven't even heard of this payment processor, does this mean he is a shill?
I haven't heard of them either, and if that frohawk'ed fruit is the spokesperson for a company then I think I just woke up on the wrong side of the Bizarro World bed.  Is that a payment system for Grindr hookups or something?

Anywho, if you're a company that thinks accepting bitcoin is untenable or that bitcoin is worthless as a payment method, you're not doing something right because there are 1) corporations that have accepted bitcoin for years, and 2) payment processors that make it happen.  I think this guy needs a lesson about quite a few things, but I'll leave it at that.
5359  Economy / Currency exchange / [H] $50-$75 PayPal [N] btc at preev 1:1 on: February 14, 2020, 02:24:23 AM
As stated in the title, I need $50 to $75 worth of BTC at preev 1:1. We can use whatever preev is at, at the time we finalize the deal.

I will not send first unless you have significant green trust or if I've done business with you before.

This will be a neutral feedback transaction.

Send me a PM if you're willing to help me out, as I might miss seeing this thread if you post here.

Local rule:  Please do not post here unless you're interested in doing this deal.  PayPal is very risky because of the chance of chargebacks, but I have never done this and won't ever.  Also, I won't deal with anyone under Full Member unless they're willing to send first.

Edit:  Deal done with notserp.  Locking thread now.
5360  Other / Meta / Re: A reply of yours, quoted below, was deleted by a Bitcoin Forum moderator. on: February 14, 2020, 01:04:13 AM
- username of a moderator who made the deletion (for an easier contact),
This probably isn't a good idea, since it would undoubtedly cause a flooding of moderators' inboxes with requests for the same information and/or bitching about post deletion(s).

It really wouldn't be a horrible idea if you at least got a reason why your post was deleted in the PM you get sent.  I'm not sure why that seems to be such a big deal, but apparently it is because this has been suggested before, multiple times, and yet nothing ever comes of it.  And it isn't like people think it's a stupid idea and it gets shot down.  I also don't think it would probably take a lot of work to implement (though I'm far from certain about that).

On the other hand, when I get posts deleted and get a PM from the forum I'm usually aware of the reason--it's either being off-topic or straight up trolling someone.  Thus you won't find me complaining about it.  But an informative post like the one OP showed?  Yeah, those probably shouldn't get deleted without a good reason.
