5361  Other / Meta / Re: Feature request: Split Quote button on: May 15, 2022, 09:15:56 AM
We are supposed to use the button to split quotes, so there should be a closing quote tag at the end already.
But there isn't one in LoyceV's example. One quote tag is closed, he opens a new one, but where is the closing one? Besides, multiple quotes require multiple closing quote tags. What am I missing here? Embarrassed
5362  Other / Archival / Re: Gambling Campaigns on: May 15, 2022, 09:10:59 AM
But because crypto companies that are just starting will prefer to pay their campaign participants in their own Altcoin, they can not list their campaign in the service section since this section is reserved for companies paying in bitcoin only...
Have you ever considered the following: All these altcoins and shitcoins that are created are all being advertised as the best thing you will ever come across in your life. But then you have bounty campaigns and signature campaigns where they are giving away tons of it. If it was that good, and those tokens were so much better than crappy old Bitcoin, wouldn't you want to keep most of them for yourself and "trick" the gullible investors and campaign participants into accepting Bitcoin? Paying them in worthless coins, and gladly taking their Bitcoin shows the real intentions.
5363  Other / Meta / Re: Feature request: Split Quote button on: May 15, 2022, 08:53:20 AM
What is the ultimate goal? Do you want a button that puts one paragraph in quotes, and then creates new quote tags where you can enter a different text? I might have been dropped on my head as a baby, so I am not sure I understand the request properly, bear with me.

But shouldn't it be

Code:
[/quote]

[quote] [/quote]
instead of
Code:
[/quote]

[quote]

5364  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Using my ledger Wallet fine on electrum-4.1.5-portable. Do I need newer version? on: May 15, 2022, 08:27:47 AM
Whenever I needed to verify Electrum, I used this guide > https://bitcoinelectrum.com/how-to-verify-your-electrum-download/.
The process is slightly different now because the signature files contain 3 signature of 3 different developers. In the past, they only contained the one from ThomasV.

I couldn't find the key via the fingerprint as explained in the article, but you can download and import the individual keys from the links on Electrum's download page. The final results look a bit different than what they did in the past but the software will tell you if the verification was successful or not.
5365  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Foundation Passport (FE) hardware wallet review and walkthrough on: May 15, 2022, 07:56:44 AM
There are a few potential attacks if it were possible to remove the PIN, one of the most trivial to understand being the supply chain attack. Someone could resell a used unit as new by resetting the device and resealing everything. They could buy the device, flash a modified (insecure) firmware, remove the PIN and sell it to a victim. As far as I know, you need to set it up once (thus also seting a PIN) to flash a custom firmware.
How does a non-technical person verify that it's a genuine Foundation Passport hardware wallet with a genuine firmware? You mentioned supply chain attacks, and since I only have experience with Ledger, I know that a fake Ledger device can't connect to official Ledger servers. So if someone in the supply chain replaced the HW with a fake one or made modifications to it, I wouldn't be able to use it with the official software. How does it work with Foundation's HW?
5366  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Nano Ledger S Receiving Address Question on: May 15, 2022, 07:32:10 AM
That's not how it works. If you generate a new receiving address in Ledger Live and fund it with Bitcoin, the next time you try generating one in the same Bitcoin account, the software will display a new one. But for that to happen, the previous one needs to have received coins. If you just generate an address and never send Bitcoin to it, the next time you click on the button to get a new receiving address, Ledger Live will display the same one.

If you want to check if that particular address has ever received any coins, just enter it into a blockchain explorer.
If you want to use different receiving addresses, or more than one because LL can only generate one at a time per Bitcoin account, just connect your Nano with Electrum, go to the addresses tab, and pick from one of the 20 unused receiving addresses displayed at the top.
5367  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano S Plus on: May 15, 2022, 07:19:04 AM
It's only assembled in the US, so it's the honest and right thing to do to write 'assembled' and not 'made'.
I agree with you, but does it solve the underlying problem?

Let us assume that China is manufacturing backdoored components that are part of hardware wallets, and 99% of all hardware parts are delivered from China. You now have hardware wallet vendors who claim two different things. One group says made in <insert country> and the other says assembled in <insert country>. The way they explain the manufacturing process doesn't change the fact they are using backdoored Chinese hardware (let's still assume they are backdoored). If the end-users loss their money to a backdoor, it makes no difference what the website and the wallets' official documentation claimed.
5368  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: 🔥Seedkeeper🔥 Hardware device to safely store your seed on: May 15, 2022, 06:51:50 AM
Is available for storing besides BIP39 seed such as Electrum seed?
I don't see why not. I doubt the Seedkeeper checks the validity of the seeds, and it really shouldn't. Especially those you import yourself. Look at it as a paper wallet where you can write down anything you want. If you write the words down correctly, you are good. If not, you might lose your coins if you didn't make a simple mistake that can be solved by bruteforcing.
5369  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: What Do Centralized Exchanges Consider as Taint? on: May 15, 2022, 06:42:44 AM
Waiting x amount of time between transactions does nothing to fool blockchain analysis, neither does simply hopping between addresses. They can still see exactly where your coins came from in both cases. Whether or not enough time or enough hops are enough for an exchange to decide certain tainted coins are no longer tainted is anybody's guess, but given the entire thing is so arbitrary then you can't guarantee it in any way.
What if they are not your coins anymore? You withdraw your coins from a casino to your private wallet. That's step #1. In step #2, you exchange those coins (or one part of the withdrawn coins) for some other asset and send it to a wallet address provided by the buyer. The exchange wouldn't know that the coins have changed hands here. I assume blockchain analysis companies wouldn't either. Even better if there was a step #3 where the coins move from private wallet to private wallet of the other user before being deposited into an exchange.
5370  Economy / Gambling / Re: RATING of TOP 10 E-SPORTS SPORTSBOOKS on: May 15, 2022, 06:30:14 AM
It's funny how you explain that the reputation of the platform is important in determining its overall ranking among other things. Another factor you consider is the number of unresolved scam accusations and complaints of players against that particular brand. But then you put 1xBit on the list of 20 of the best crypto bookies around. Maybe if they reach 1 million complaints and scam accusations you will consider not advertising them on your website. But we are not quite there yet.
5371  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Warning! on: May 14, 2022, 12:07:48 PM
Avoid these websites for now, if you want to use Coingecko to check prices, make use of mobile devices until the problem is rectified.
I think that it has already been fixed by Coingecko. They released a statement on Twitter advising users to still be careful but also stating that the ad script has been disabled (https://twitter.com/coingecko/status/1525238360847134720).

There is absolutely no reason for a site like CoinGecko to request that you log in or connect to any wallet to browse the site. Anyone who thinks clearly should know that. It would be like Bitcointalk asking for your seed while logging in to your forum account.
5372  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Crypto trading has caused more depression in 2021/2022 on: May 14, 2022, 10:55:17 AM
There are several reasons for that: wrong investment strategies, no risk assessment, investing too much or all your capital, investing in dubious altcoins you know very little about but someone said they will become the next Bitcoin, etc. There is no such thing as a safe bet and there are no sure things in investments and speculative asset classes. Understand the risks and the possibilities that you can lose all of it.

People never learn and when they are in over their head, unfortunately they take the suicide route. But that's just the beginning of new problems and pain for their families.
5373  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Guide] Factors to consider before joining paid signature campaigns. on: May 14, 2022, 10:34:01 AM
<Snip>
I wouldn't say that the signature campaign was a distraction that prevented you from learning. How much did you post weekly before you joined a signature campaign? If we are talking about 5-6 posts, it's your frequency of posting that's a problem for most campaigns, not the fact that you are wearing a paid signature. If your average before joining the campaign was 30-35, but it dropped to 10 when you started wearing your signature, it's obvious you started doing something wrong.

Whatever your style of posting was that led you to be accepted in a campaign, it was good enough. If it wasn't, the campaign manager would have selected someone else. All you had to do was maintain that quality and frequency of posting, and even better, improve it. Maybe campaigns with fixed weekly quotas aren't your thing. Perhaps you would have done better if you were paid per post with no weekly minimums. But there aren't that many of those around.
5374  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano S Plus on: May 14, 2022, 10:21:41 AM
Ledger is Made in China and Assembled in France, nothing wrong with that, just be transparent about it.
Posting this here although it's not related to Ledger but to Coldcard. It can still serve the purpose of proving how companies claim one thing, lie, and/or deliberately don't show the whole picture.

So, the new Coldcard Mk4 is out and this is what the manufacturer says about it. "Made in Canada". I actually don't know if it is or isn't, but I doubt the hardware components are made in Canada. We already had that discussion when Ledger claimed something similarly. Just below that, there is a sentence that says, "Lovingly soldered in Toronto, Canada". Soldered and made in are two different concepts. The question is, where do they get their hardware components from that are then soldered onto the board in Toronto? Also from Canada or maybe China or some other country?

Jesi li provjeravao odakle dolaze hardverske komponente za novi Coldcard? Ako si obratio pažnju na stranicu gdje predstavljaju novi uređaj, piše "Made in Canada" a ispod toga "soldered in Toronto." Dakle lemljenje i postavljanje komponenti na mainboard se radi u Kanadi. Uređaj se ne proizvodi u Kanadi jer komponente vjerovatno dolaze s druge lokacije. Možda iz tebi drage Kine. Wink

5376  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Sending and Receiving Address and Anonymity Question on: May 14, 2022, 09:02:29 AM
So when i install the ltc app, is it okay if i just call it ltc account for now?
Call it whatever you want as long as you know what you will be using it for.

Could i change the name of that account later on?
Yes.

Then i would receive small amount of ltc from gambling site, and then send that 5 dollars to the mystery person?
Yes, that's how I explained it in the previous post.

So let say later on i buy say 500 ltc.  Then i create a brand new second ltc account and call it long term ltc bag.  But when you generate a receiving address for that amount, you would then choose that account right?
Yes, you generate an address in the new account that will be used for your long-term storage.

So later on if you want to buy more ltc for long term storage, you would still be generating a new address each time right and not reuse addresses?  But it would be for the second ltc account?
Yes, you can just generate a new receiving address in your "long-term storage" account or even create a 3rd account that will be your "second long-term storage LTC account" if you want to be absolutely certain that you won't connect addresses A and B in the "first long-term storage" account. If you bought 5000 LTC one time and 5000 LTC a second time, those two parties don't have to know that you own both inputs.

But say i want say another 50 dollars worth of ltc and want to withdraw that from gambling site to the small ltc payments account.  Would still go to receive and click on that account right and then it would generate a new ltc address... even though its going to that same small ltc payments account?
Yes, just generate a new receiving address in the account you created for those small LTC deposits.

So when you are going to send 5 dollars to that person, you need to use coin control to do it right?  But can't you just go to send and choose ltc and then click on that small ltc payment account and then the ltc you send would be coming out from there?
If you have only funded that account with one $50 LTC deposit, it's obvious that's all you have. You can't select a second input if it's not there. If you want to send something, the funds for the new transaction have to come from that previous $50 deposit. Coin control helps you when you have multiple inputs of $5, $10, $15, $25, $50 worth of LTC, for example. With coin control, you decide which of those inputs you want to spend.
5377  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: API for acquiring and converting to BTC? on: May 14, 2022, 08:42:59 AM
Ok so what I want to do is every month schedule the sending of 500 euros worth of BTC from my current account to my private wallet (Im using Ledger). How could I achieve this?
The thing is, it's dangerous to give automated "helpers" like bots and APIs the permissions to access and work with your money. Can you trust it to not have any bugs or intentional vulnerabilities that would allow its creators to edit the receiving addresses and amounts being bought/sent? Probably not.

Also, with Cashapp, do you need to then manually move it to a private wallet?
I have never used the app, so I don't know. My assumption is that the coins will be deposited in an address that's part of your app. But maybe you can enter a custom address, which in your case would be one that's part of your Ledger. Someone who knows more about Cash.app could give you a better answer.

Additionally, most 'legit' / not-yet-hacked exchanges have frozen some users' balances, closed their accounts, restricted access or blocked trading of some currency pairs, leaving users waiting for months to be able to get to their money.
Don't forget the often-occurring wallet maintenance issues. You mentioned a good example with Dogecoin. Wallets can be in "maintenance mode" for weeks and months before you can access your coins again. Interestingly, it occurs when there are huge pumps or significant drops in value. Once the issue is fixed, it's too late to take advantage of the situation in case you wanted to buy something cheaper or sell it at a high.

So can I assume that for experienced Bitcoiners, Bisq and other peer-to-peer exchanges are their way of acquiring BTC? Not Binance, Coinbase etc?
Not necessarily the experienced ones, but certainly those concerned about their privacy. Often, it goes hand in hand, and those who have been around for a while are also concerned about remaining anonymous. That's something you can't do on CEXs where you are often asked to verify your identity and answer questions about your business activities or origins of your money. Saying, that's none of your business doesn't work. Hence, we have completely decentralized P2P exchanges where no questions are asked.
5378  Other / Meta / Re: Proposal: Adding grey underline in every links on: May 14, 2022, 08:20:24 AM
If yes, that means one can be wearing signature of a company and still be promoting his personal signature through hiding links.
Maybe. But don't forget that signature space is limited. Chances are that most of that character space is already lost because of the sig you are wearing, so you won't be able to do much with what remains. One way around it is if a Hero/Legendary would wear a sig for a Member/Full Member, which leaves him with enough room to include other things in his signature space.

Good campaign managers surely check if there are additional lines and entries in the signature that shouldn't be there. It's against the rules to have that.
Here is just one example:

7. Adding additional lines into your signatures is not allowed.

5379  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: wintomato.com - SCAM (confiscated withdrawal, awful support) on: May 14, 2022, 08:09:05 AM
Thanks for your reply, I personally missed this typic, because we are engaged in site performance upgrade staff and when I spotted the issue was too late...
I informed you about the existence of this scam accusation against your casino on 7 February. You were on the forum that day because I saw you online.

@wintomato
I can see that you were online just a few minutes ago. Can you address the claims made by the user above me who opened a scam accusation against your site? The link is in his post.
You rejected his first withdrawal claiming he abused the site, but then you approved the second withdrawal. If abuse and misuse happened, why would you allow a player who broke the rules to withdraw the coins? And finally, after the third withdrawal attempt, you confiscated hi balance because of faucet abuse.

If he did abuse the system, can you show proof that support those claims, and explain to the community what Pandora Faucet Farming is and what the user did?

A week later, I posted in your ANN thread again mentioning the scam accusation and asking if you can share your side of the story:
A second call to wintomato to take a look at the scam accusation thread that WaitrounDent created and share your side of the story (if there is one). Being silent makes you look bad. If WaitrounDent is a faucet abuser or you have reasons to believe he has broken certain terms, tell the community what he did wrong and what rules he didn't respect. At the moment, you are the ones who scammed the mentioned user for a petty $20.

but the user who reported us never came back here...
He doesn't have to. He most probably just registered to inform the community and make the scam accusation thread. He isn't the first one to do something like that and he won't be the last one.

he was part of bot farmer group and his account was banned the amount has never been confiscated and he could withdraw most winnings ...
If that's true, you have to prove it. Just saying it doesn't make it true. Post some proof to convince the community he is a faucet abuser. I think that's the only way to remove your negative trust rating.
5380  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: 5Dimes blocked me after asking if TerraLuna is a good investment on: May 14, 2022, 07:54:04 AM
A support staff banning your from the casino's chat is not a scam. Your feelings and opinions that Max might be an Indian who is a scammer waiting for you to deposit money so he can confiscate them is also not a scam. The only thing that happened here is that you got banned from accessing the chat by someone who has the power to do so. Maybe he didn't have to do it, but you also didn't have to go off-topic and talk about Luna or Terra.

5Dimes did not scam you, case closed.
