Image is clear as day, however I have one small concern, since all those vents are intake , and by placing that gear this way you are blocking nearly half of the intake, this positioning does give the exhaust side a much better room , but also by limiting the intake space they boards can run hotter, have you actually measured temps in different positioning?
5364  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will US drop interest rate affect Crypto market in future? on: September 30, 2019, 04:10:23 AM
As far as I know people are more likely going to sell their crypto for them to be able to actually spend money on basic day to day needs.

Usually investors have more money invested than what they can spend on food and daily needs, but during  financial crisis there are mainly two types of people doing two different things

Group A : Selling their commodities to save their business ( They need dollars)
Group B : Buying commodities to save their investments

So depending how bad the crises are, anything can happen, but during the first phase of financial crises, you should expect lack of dollar liquidation and a ton of commodities liquidations (Gold,Silve and probably BTC) will go down in price , central banks will need to react and attempt to save the world economy by printing more money like they always do (they call it quantitative easing to make you feel better about it ) , at that point of time people will be buying everything they get their hands on, and BTC won't be any different.
5365  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I'm a web designer & developer. How to get a job? on: September 30, 2019, 03:21:13 AM
Make an account on Fiverr, Upwork, Freelancer,

His line of work is very inflated, unless he is a professional in Python especially in robotics programming , or some thing that is relatively new like solidity programming then competing with other workers from "less fortune countries" is going to be nearly impossible, I don't want to mention countries so that I don't offend anyone but some people do these online tasks for peanuts, if you are in a well devolved country you might make more money working in a fast food restaurant than working as a freelancer in IT related fields.

My advice for you is that you should be a head of the curve, with all due respect all the skills you mentioned are not impressive anymore, don't expect to earn a ton of money with that set of skills, learn blockchain related programming language such as C++, Vyper and/or Solidity ,these have higher demand than the majoiry of other IT related skills, and they should have a larger market share in the future, out of the three languages I suggested Solidity will be the easiest for you since you are familiar with JavaScript.
5366  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Is mining gear efficiency a strong reason for difficulty increment? on: September 30, 2019, 01:57:51 AM
That is because you are looking at the mining as a mining setup.
It is not it is a tool to create a 1300000 million solar array. In NJ , USA I get to use 300,000 in mining gear to create a solar array worth 4x the price of the mining gear. Which is rolled into the price of the array and gets tax credits because it was what created the power demand in that site.

I hear you phill, but this can only be profitable in a very large scale as far as I can see it, also , is there any reason why this solar array plan wouldn't work with less efficient gears given the fact the mining profit is not key here? is NJ the only state that has such laws?

the chart will have an overall negative bias because gear has been getting more and more efficient.

The whole point of this topic is to prove that mining gear's efficiency is not the main reason for difficulty increment , and the numbers I presented should be  good enough to support that claim.

It's true that charts can't tell you what the profitability per TH is going to be next month, but they sure as hell can tell you that next year is going to be worse than the previous one, charts are not random drawings, they are merely real numbers extracted from real data, it's clear as day that profitability will keep declining despite any other future events.

5368  Economy / Speculation / Re: The king is about to wake up. on: September 30, 2019, 01:02:14 AM
Not trying to scare anyone, but the chart looks terrible

I do not see bitcoin anywhere but 6k after this break out and the 5SMA crossing the 20SMA on the weekly, to me I see two scenarios as of now.

1-Drop to 6k and consolidate there for a while before going to ATH
2-Enter a bear market for another year or so , re-test 3k make  a double bottom and then start another bull cycle.

These two scenarios are invalidated if the price does close again above 20SMA on the weekly.

another more concerning view can be found on the monthly chart, the monthly candle will close today and these three black crows are very scary

As far as day trading is concerned, it's now safer to short the market , a retrace to the 20SMA and 5SMA area (9300$-9600$) on the weekly chart will be a good chance to short/sell bitcoin , until the chart tells us otherwise.

Stay calm, don't panic just follow the chart.
5369  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Is mining gear efficiency a strong reason for difficulty increment? on: September 30, 2019, 12:15:01 AM
I understand the numbers, but there are two major problems in your analysis

The first one is that this only applies to large scale mining only, what about the rest of the small / mid size miners?

The second issues is that, the text quoted below is pure speculation which is unlikely to come true

4ph earns 614 usd a day.  or 224,256 a year.   in 2 years  you have  448,000 back.

By looking again at the profitably chart, there is 0% chance you are going to net  448,000$ in two years, below is a chart showing the past 2 years profitability in a simple moving average of 30 days

chart > https://bitinfocharts.com/comparison/mining_profitability-btc-sma30.html#log&2y

when you place the arrow at any point, the number you see the average of the previous 30 days ( to avoid day to day variances)

1st-Sep 2017 - 30th-Sep 2018:
average (take from 1st day of each month) : 1.1$

Sep 2018 - Sep 2019:
average (take from 1st day of each month) : 0.22$

Sep 2019- Sep 2020 :
average (take from 1st day of each month) : ??

Sep 2020- Sep 2021 :
average (take from 1st day of each month) : ??

is it safe to assume that we are going to lose 50% every year?

so

4ph earns 614 usd a day.  or 224,256 a year.   in 2 years  you have  448,000 back.

becomes this ?

4ph  224,256  112,128$ first year, second year 56,064$  in 2 years  :  448,000 = 168,192$

However during that period , bitcoin price went from 4000$ to 8000$ , so 300,000$ invested in bitcoin now might very well be 600,000.

of course all these numbers are pure speculation, but that charts don't lie, profitability has way more chances of going down than up.

Nice ascii artwork, but I don't seem to understand how is it possible to position the miner this way, if the description in the image below is accurate

source: https://www.eastshore.xyz/tutorial-antminer-r4-bitcoin-miner-16nm-quiet-asic-miner/

I found a few brand new R4s in China, they go for about 270$ each , I might get me 1 or 2 of them to set-up at home for the winter since they are really quite, so I get to use the free limited power at home to earn some extra BTC and keep the house warm, I never had any of those gears before and I am eager to test them, also I would like to know if they are really quite enough to sit in the next room.

but i dont what to look for?

This is what to look for

Code:
main.c:9626: retry check chain[6]: asicNum = 63

Chain 6 has 63 asics, so all good.

Code:
main.c:9626: retry check chain[7]: asicNum = 0
driver-bitmain.c:1825: set_reset_hashboard = 0x00000080
driver-bitmain.c:1825: set_reset_hashboard = 0x00000080
driver-bitmain.c:1825: set_reset_hashboard = 0x00000000

chain 7 however is showing 0 , this does not mean all chips on J7 are dead, it usually mean 1 chip is dead and that is good enough to kill the board, a lose cable or any of the other reasons that have been already mentioned may cause this issue, so try to troubleshoot it , but be prepared for the worst and the most likely scenario which is a dead hash board.
5371  Local / منصات التبادل / Re: تجربتي الجيدة في منصة Bybit on: September 29, 2019, 09:23:10 PM

5373  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Is mining gear efficiency a strong reason for difficulty increment? on: September 29, 2019, 04:20:40 PM
ok so now we agree that efficiency is not the most important factor as far as difficulty is concerned,  after all 100% improvement over the course of 4 years and millions of dollars spend on research is not impressive to say the least.

there is always pressure to the 4-7 cent earning range.

That is the main point, in fact as time passes the pressure gets down to those  with cheaper power, at one point only those with 0-2 cent might really actually make money , I am not talking about making profit on daily bases, I am talking about making more profit that simply hodling btc or keeping your money at bank for 0.25% interest rate or whatever that is where you live.

people have this misconception of profitably not changing a lot because price moves difficulty, thus any investment at any given time will yield the same profit in average, which is not the case at all.

let's zoom-out and have a look at these 3 charts that represent data of  nearly 9 years starting July 2010 and ending today.

1- Price

2-Difficulty

3-Mining Profitability

Theoretically,Mining Profitability should stay flat, or at worst case scenario, should decrease slowly given that the cost of buying 1TH is decreasing as well.

in fact here is a funny story, mining profitability now is nearly exactly the same as it was back in Jan 2019 when price was hanging at about 3k , with most efficient gears are due to ship later this year , it is safe to assume that the majority of extra 50E addition in hashrate since then, did not come only from the new efficient gears, so what happened?

My take on this that people with cheap power (2 cents or so )as phill explained are still filling in those mining farms with old gears such as S9 or even T9, in fact a T9 that goes for as cheap as a 100$ makes almost 30$ a month at 2 cents kw so there is really no reason why they wouldn't be adding more of those.

So where do the 4-7 cents per kw miners stand in all this mess? a T9 at 4 cents makes only 7.5$ a month and loses at 5 cents , S9 does not look much better, so ultimately the 4-7 cents people have no option but to pay premium for a gear that is only double efficient.

now let's examine the situation and see how it goes for buying say S17 pro today for 3500$ ( the most efficient gear), and based on the profitability chart it's pretty obvious that we are only going down, despite the spikes here and there the average trend is down, we are at 18 cents per th today, the numbers say we are going much lower, but let's assume we stay flat for the sake of it.

S17 pro makes 5.54$ per day at 5 cents  that is 166$ per month , so you are looking at 21 months to ROI and hey , that is probably the BEST scenario you are going to have, and you are actually paying 0.45 bitcoin for that gear , it's almost nearly impossible to mine that much before either the miner dies or becomes unprofitable and you sell it for 200-300$ to those guys who have 2 cents per kwh.

I am kinda mixing a few topics at once, but it's really all related, since people who pay more for power count totally on efficiency, efficiency does not move nearly 1/10 as fast as difficulty does, I just don't see the logic here, can somebody who paid a fortune for these gears and has 5-7 cent per kwh rate explain the logic behind their move?

Adios,

5375  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Is mining gear efficiency a strong reason for difficulty increment? on: September 29, 2019, 04:39:57 AM
I was checking mining difficulty and saw it hanging at about 12.75t , which is a 100% increment from the 6.5t mark last May, Bitcoin price was trading at 4600$ then and now it's at 8200$ so that is also nearly double as well, although technically , price moves way faster the difficulty (in both directions), by going through the different subjects on the forum and else where, and reading what people have to say about it , i think that most people think that new gen miners are the main cause for this non-stop difficulty spikes.

That makes sense, but I have a huge problem with the way the numbers match, if we go back in time and check this very date May 31, 2016, which was the release date for Antminer S9.

At that time we had :

Bitcoin price             = 436$
Difficulty                  = 0.2t
Best Gear efficiency  = 85w/th
Price per TH             =150$
Profit per TH            =1.2$ / day
1000$ investment     =280$ return per month

Currently we have :

Bitcoin price             = 8200$      >  18x UP
Difficulty                  = 12.74t      >  63x UP
Best Gear efficiency  = 45w/th     >  2x   UP
Price per TH             =55$           > 3x   Down
Profit per TH            =0.18$ /day > 6x Down
1000$ investment    =90$ return per month

The strange thing about these numbers that since May 2016 (4 years) mining efficiency has only doubled from S9 to the most effiecnt gear of today S17e/S17pro etc., while diff is 63 times higher,  I don't see how mining efficiency matters here ! anyone cares to explain ??

in total ,mining now is 3 times less profitable than it was 4 years ago despite the fact that efficiency has only doubled once, this indicates that people are willing to earn peanuts from mining, and with these numbers in hand it is safe to assume that probably the majority of miners will end up losing money in the long run if they kept buying gears at high prices.

What do you think the minimum profit per th are we ever going to get to?

NO BTC ARE EVER SENT TO US, WE CAN ACCESS THE CLIENTS' BITMEX ACCOUNTS VIA PUBLIC API KEY WITH ONLY TRADING PRIVILEGES

If we were to ignore the 5 btc loan request then that is true, you can't withdrawal your client's funds on bitmex, but you can make it disappear in a few bad trades, so technically thier BTC is at risk, it does not matter if you withdrawal it or lose it.

You could very well be legit and not willing to get rich by risking people's money but unfortunately most bot's creator are scammers who go by the rule " if the bot wins, i win, if the bot loses, who cares ?" - so you should not be surprised that people will tag for you this, think of ICOs, there are probably plenty of legit once out there, but what are the chances?

Your reputation and rank matter too, you are not even in a position to trade 50$ worth of btc without escrow, let alone 5 btc loan.

I am not trying to be mean, I just don't want you to feel bad, nothing personal here, we just learned from experience that promises like yours are usually never kept , and people have lost millions of dollars trusting random people with random trading bots, we are only trying to protect the newbies by being extra conservative, some innocent users could be victims to that, but that is life !.

thanks for this!! I was searching all over - I kept finding sets where only 2 wires fed into the 6pin

Usually searching for these keywords on alibaba/aliexpress will give you better word suggestions, sellers on those sites include as much description as possible in the tittle, and then when you find the product, copy paste the product name in Amazon and bingo !

do they remove easily? I have never had to swap these out in the past and I hope I never have to in the future.

Should be an easy take, you need a few tools those, because those are not plug and play, they need soldering , if you don't have the tools take it to anyone who fixes mobile phones or type of electronics, they should be able to do it in 5 mins.

if you want to do it yourself, i found a guide for you >https://steemit.com/antminer/@qctechno/miner-repair-replace-your-pcie-power-connector-on-antminer-s9-r4-d3-s7  in this guide he also includes a link where you can buy the connectors might be cheaper and faster to deliever than those from Ali express so make sure you check that out too.

I did test the PSU - it tested fine on 110v and on 220v - I just put a meter right where I removed the old wire harness.

That is how you should test it anyway, so good news, you got yourself a 90% working miner, another 20-30$ at most and your miner should be functioning perfectly, this puts you on 1 month to ROI but that still is an excellent deal.

Yes you can get the connectors @ Amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005T8SQ9K/

I didn't see that "lot of 6" , price isn't bad at all, go for it, nice catch Dave.

You got yourself a 2 weeks to ROI miner, that is impressive.

For the PSU 6*pin cables you can buy this product on Amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B07QSF198K

You also need to change those connectors on the hash board they look bad and they might damage the hash board or the PSU connectors,  I couldn't find any on Amazon, but here is a link on

aliexpress > https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32985270707.html

And before you buy the PSU wires, make sure you test it, the PSU might be dead and there would be no point in changing the cables on it.

I treat people with as much respect and politeness as they give me,

I stated my opinion regarding the subject in hand, you quoted my post and started a discussion, I politely engaged in the discussion, and then the first thing you wrote was :

None of your rambling matters

I treated you with respect, and based on your alleged way of treating people you should have been respectful to me, I think the only time you to talk nicely to someone is if they agree to your thoughts, if they disagree, it gives you the right to show your disrespectful attitude.

as you join this little mob to cast aspersions to raise your own profile.

What mob that is ? you mean the gang?   hate to tell you that i have not been accepted yet, going to apply again next week , I have better chances now after I "cast aspersions" , I might need to cycle a few more merit and then I am good to go. Roll Eyes

I have been raising these issues for years because unlike you I was around long enough to have helped build this community

Rambling, Nagging and whining do not help build any community, speaking of how you "helped build the community"  , 90% of your posts are either in Politics & Society (useless for the forum ) and Market place ( You selling your stuff and that does not do anything to the community, in fact the community is doing you a great favor by providing you a great platform to trade) and the rest of your posts are either in Meta or Reputation (Obviously crying and whining about trust system/merit/mods ,,etc)

I hate to break it to you, but you are really just an average forum user, that is not bad per se, you just need to reconcile with yourself and move on.

Adios,
