5361  Economy / Economics / Re: Master card, Paypal, America express suspending services to Russians on: March 12, 2022, 11:20:03 AM
I don't think it makes sense to open a new thread, but it seems that some Chinese companies don't feel like doing business with Russia at a time when at least 80% of all countries in the world have turned their backs on it. I don't know if this is just an exception, but it sends a clear message to Moscow that China will not turn its back on the other side when it comes to aggression against an independent country.

A China-led development bank has suspended all business with Russia and Belarus, a possible sign of the limits of Beijing’s support for Moscow as it faces sanctions and censure over its war in Ukraine. “Under these circumstances, and in the best interests of the Bank, Management has decided that all activities relating to Russia and Belarus are on hold and under review,” the Beijing-based institution said in a statement on Thursday. “Our hearts go out to all who are suffering,” the bank said.

The fact that you are envious and deceitful, I already understood. You can't prove it again.

Do you think I envy you? Well I wouldn’t trade for your position for all the Bitcoin of this world. I didn’t build my profile on mass plagiarism and dozens of threads bragging about my accomplishments to prove something.

I looked at your trust and immediately everything fell into place, dkbit98 absolutely accurately described you:

Quote
Making false claims with words I never said. Should grow thicker skin.
Quote
Mentally unstable fake public defender

Now we come to the point where you have to take other people's words to describe me? In doing so, you do not take the other side of the story as a result of these feedback. If you want to, then I will give one feedback that describes you in the best possible way.

nullius   2020-12-08   Reference   Deceitful, remorseless plagiarist. Used Google Translate to translate an article from Russian to English, prefaced a condensed version thereof with the claim, “In this article *I* would like to touch upon...”, buried a link to the original Russian article in the middle of a small-text list of links at the bottom, and posted that as a topic OP in the English-language forum. Denies that this is plagiarism (!), and attacks *ad hominem* those who accuse him of plagiarism (!!). Dishonest and untrustworthy.

I really don't want to pollute this thread with personal discussions anymore - if someone has a need (I don't have a personal one) to open a new thread about my or someone else's reputation, feel free to do so.
5363  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 30,000 Bitcoin Buy-In on coinbase on: March 12, 2022, 10:39:33 AM
2.357 million? I don't understand. Does it refer to 2.357 million fiat value of those Bitcoins? It's obviously not 2.357 million Bitcoins.

As far as I understand it is the number of Bitcoin on a total of 21 crypto exchanges, but I can not say whether it is the total number of what is available for sale or their total reserve. Either way, given the nearly 19 million BTCs that have been mined so far, it’s no wonder that at least about 10% is on crypto exchanges.

Maybe a year or more ago, an estimate was published that Coinbase alone holds nearly 1 million BTC, so this number is no surprise. As much as we talk about security, the fact is that the vast majority of Bitcoin investors do not know what a private key is and how risky it is to entrust it to someone else for safekeeping.
5364  Economy / Reputation / Re: [Discussion] Bitcointalk Community Awards 🏆 on: March 12, 2022, 10:26:38 AM
I fully understood your point of view, Lucius, as I read your previous posts and I share most of your thoughts.

I am personally glad that there are people on this forum who are not afraid to say what they really think, regardless of the fact that it may concern some who think that they are some kind of gods of the forum and that some special rules apply to them.

I am glad my idea has fans and, as I see, you and icopress are two of them. However, if the contest is kept on Ivory Tower board and if it will have a rule to disqualify any user which would award votes, then there would not be necessarily needed to disable merits in the respective thread. If any merit occurs, the respective user is disqualified and, I think, this will be more harsh for him / her.

Your idea is good because it does not require intervention by the admin, but since there will be those who will not read the rules and will make this fatal mistake (maybe accidentally) and thus be disqualified, it would certainly be better to merits be completely disabled in that thread. Either way, some of it would be desirable to apply.

What is really incomprehensible to me is that someone is pressuring to publish the final results, and does not show even the slightest empathy for a person who is fighting with his family for life in a country attacked by his compatriots. I hope he gets his reward as soon as possible and stops whining in this thread.

I wonder if prizes will be awarded to the winners of the last contest?

This competition has already been going on for more than a month and a half and has not yet been completed. And with the second round, how long do you plan to hold it? For 2-3 months?
5365  Economy / Reputation / Re: [Discussion] Bitcointalk Community Awards 🏆 on: March 11, 2022, 04:40:41 PM
I think that we learned something from these two contests and, probably, from next edition, icopress will make some changes (assuming that he will still keep the contests going -- of course, with administration's support as well).

I also hope that some lessons have been learned from the previous two competitions, in which I unfortunately did not vote for some of the reasons I have already explained in some of the previous posts. Just to clarify that I do not blame @icopress, but individuals who, due to their personal interests, made this competition very questionable.

Another suggestion that I am making is to take the contest to Ivory Tower board, thus ensuring that no members with ranks below Full Member are able to interfere. This way we will avoid a good amount of spam. Indeed, this would mean that members with ranks of Newbies, Jr. Member and Member will not be able to vote, no matter if they have more than 50 votes, but, considering the very low amount of such cases (during actual contest we had less than 5 such users, if I remember well) this would not be a problem.

I fully support this idea, and I would also suggest disabling the merits in this thread in order to prevent competitors from motivating voters in this way.
5366  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 30,000 Bitcoin Buy-In on coinbase on: March 11, 2022, 04:23:33 PM
For ordinary mortals, 30 000 BTC is a hard-to-understand amount, especially if someone focuses on their fiat value - but for the crypto market, that obviously means almost nothing. In the article cited by the OP as a source, one sentence is particularly interesting to me :

It's just a question of how much BTC is available through OTC, but without a doubt it's millions - which means there are far more who want to sell than buy.
5367  Other / Meta / Re: Russia going offline? on: March 11, 2022, 03:59:43 PM
It is quite clear to me that Russia is moving in the direction of more or less isolating itself from the EU, UK, US, and countries it considers hostile - but doesn't a complete internet outage do incalculable damage to their economy, far greater harm than any benefits of such insane isolation?

Not even China has ever gone that far despite its censorship, because that would mean shooting yourself in both knees and eventually playing Russian roulette to swallow a bullet. Nothing can surprise me anymore, this madness is getting bigger day by day...

Today I thought my neighbors were joking about someone attacking our country by a drone or racket flying in from the direction of Ukraine and falling on our capital after flying more than 500 km - but it actually happened, fortunately no one was injured.
5368  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 11, 2022, 03:39:27 PM
In other news, a Russian made, supposedly Ukrainian operated UAV crashed into Zagreb city after crossing >500km NATO territory without anybody noticing:
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/mar/11/ukraine-military-drone-crashes-into-croatian-capital-zagreb

This is a model that was designed maybe even 50 years ago, and it has always been problematic, which has obviously happened now. Some speculate that someone may have programmed Jarun (part of Zagreb) instead of Yarun (Ukraine) and that the drone therefore flew all the way to Zagreb. What is amazing is that no country (Romania, Hungary, Croatia) managed to act it before it fell, which means that missile shields and air defenses are worth almost nothing.

However, some analysts attribute this to the very heated situation in the Balkans, where part of Bosnia and Herzegovina (Republika Srpska) is trying to join the Republic of Serbia, and has the support of Russia. In recent days, an increasing number of international forces have arrived in Bosnia and Herzegovina via Croatia, and the French air force is patrolling over the country. A Balkan barrel of gunpowder could explode at any moment, and it would certainly suit Russia to divert the public's attention from the war in Ukraine.
5369  Economy / Economics / Re: Master card, Paypal, America express suspending services to Russians on: March 11, 2022, 11:39:02 AM
Here is the issue with all these sanctions. Unless China also starts these sanctions then I don’t think the Western countries sanctions will do anything since you can pretty much get anything from China these days.

They make clothes, they make cars, they make electronics, they make food, they make everything pretty much. So unless China also starts to sanction Russia, I think the country will do just fine.

We all know that China has no intention of ever imposing sanctions on Russia, because they are big and strong enough to pursue their policies, and the US and the EU depend on China far more than on Russia. It is also true that almost everything is produced in China today, but little of it is some kind of branded goods that are recognizable globally. When it comes to their goods, I can buy a smartphone or a smartwatch, but everything else is of very questionable quality, not to mention how many products are withdrawn from the market every day because they pose a danger to human health.

Russia is obviously playing on two key cards, one is China and the other is India trying to stay neutral, but as one of the more important US allies, it will have to choose a side. However, I do not think that Russia can preserve its economy and prosper without markets such as the US or the EU - this is a market of over 800 million people who have far more purchasing power than the rest of the world.
5370  Economy / Speculation / Re: Highest in history on: March 11, 2022, 11:18:00 AM
I became friends with an influencer. She is a person who is great at auditing projects but she doesn't charge any money, she works for the people and investors and not for the projects.

I agree that we cannot say that all people who do such work are doing something bad, there are always exceptions. If that person is helping you and others to be successful in their investments and is not yet asking for any compensation, then this is one of those exceptions.

However, all those influencers that I personally had the opportunity to see on YT are not worth anyone's time, let alone investments. If you understand Bitcoin at least at a basic level, no one has to tell you what will happen in 1 or 5 years - look back and you will easily understand in which direction we are going.
5371  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 11, 2022, 11:05:28 AM
... probably best to take blatant war propaganda somewhere else?

As far as I can see the problem is not in the content of the post, but in who posted it, the hypocrisy at its best Lips sealed

~snip~
Somehow we like to think we're different than the Russian people though.  Maybe we think we're more savvy and less naïve; how could they allow themselves to be so easily deceived?  Those Russian bastards shouldn't be out "shopping"!  They should be protesting their government's actions!  Why don't they stop Putin?!

I will not put any links to recent research, but anyone can see how many Russians support their leader - in a country of 150 million people not even 1% protest against the war, as we have already concluded they have completely different priorities.
5372  Economy / Goods / Re: Gold from Africa on: March 10, 2022, 03:45:27 PM
I represent a group of local village gold miners from Dr Congo in Africa. They are asking to sell their gold in exchange for bitcoin,The reason is that some people have been blacklisted by the UN financial system.

If someone is on the UN blacklist, then there must be some reason for it, maybe the problem is in the exploitation of labor, the abuse of children in mining? I have done little research on gold mining in the DRC, and thousands of people seem to be doing it privately, and their health is being damaged, as well as causing considerable damage to the environment.

At what point are we going to admit that the term they feed people called "democracy" has always been nothing more than a carrot dangling in front of people to lull them into submission. The ugly truth is that every single country that has been claiming democracy for decades has been a modern dictatorship.
The messed up part is that, things are only going to get worse.

It has long been clear to me that democracy works to some extent in Switzerland where the government always asks the people what they think about something before a decision is made, not in countries that have elections every 4 or 5 years, sells people the story of how to vote, and then work in the interest of banks, corporations, and their own interests.

Ever since they started using terrorism as the main excuse to terrorize us, through a pandemic that has given them even more power - we need to ask ourselves what’s next? Democracy is a dead letter on paper, there is only an illusion - obey or you will have a bad time in life.
5375  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Inflation is here Why is not Bitcoin Saving Us? on: March 10, 2022, 02:55:18 PM
So the case of Inflation has finally hit the world head on.
Bitcoin was supposed to be the solution to all of this.
How come Bitcoin has not come to save us yet.?

You created a profile almost 5 years ago on the forum and still haven't figured out how Bitcoin could protect you from inflation? At the beginning of 2017 1 BTC was worth barely $1000, today it is worth almost 40 times more, and last year it was worth almost 70 times more. I could bet that in 5 years you will ask the same question when the price of 1 BTC is 5 or 10 times higher than today, but this is a problem you have to solve with yourself.

Seen from my perspective (and that of many other people) the thing works perfectly, of course if we look at it in the long run. Be on the side of the winners who invest in times when the markets are in the red, not those who do it in the middle of a bull run.

Well, they are soldiers, so they'll have to die as long as Putin wants them to.
Being in the army is great, but only in peaceful times...

Or in case you attack someone who is at least ten times weaker than you - shelling hospitals, schools and TV towers is even easier because they don't fight back. Meanwhile, Russian morale is declining, especially when they read that from now on they will be stalked by the world's best sniper.

Interesting.
Could you tell us if you checked Release Notes, did Google mention anything about it?
Or maybe it was one of 'bugfix' patches and now they check if shortcut already exists.
Which browser do you use? If you with a completely new, unused browser, does pop-up appear? I wonder if it is matter of browser or system.

I use Chrome on my smartphone, and I haven't checked what exactly it is because Google very often has updates for its services via Google Play - but that pop-up stopped appearing immediately after updates. I think it's a combination of both, although I didn't make a browser update, there seems to have been a hole in the system through which that pop-up was persistently displayed even though notifications and pop-up ads were blocked.

While millions of Ukrainians are living in the horrors of war and children are dying because they have no food or water, in Russia people really have strange priorities - sanctions are clearly having an effect Roll Eyes https://twitter.com/nexta_tv/status/1501659933162586117

Meanwhile, braveheart Wallace is sending Starstreak anti-air missiles to Ukraine, and as far as I hear Russian pilots have already started peeing into their underwear given what this system can do.

@PawGo, does this mean that the owner has decided to introduce this feature on their site? Since you know what this is about, how can an ordinary user block such things?

Yes, it is managed by site owner/developer.

I am not sure if you may disable it on browser level (maybe some browsers has that feature, I do not know), but after you reject it, it should not appear anymore. But if you use private mode or clear browsing data, maybe it will be proposed again.

It will reappear after 2-3 days, and even if you accept it , and use the app (it works like a shortcut), it will ask you again and again.

Yesterday I made some updates from Google Play related to Google services, and that pop-up immediately disappeared - so for all those who are irritated by the same thing, there is a solution.
5380  Other / Meta / Re: @Theymos @Cyrus Please give me another chance ? [after 3 years] on: March 10, 2022, 11:08:06 AM
He also responded to hilariousetc and said he wasn't part of any bounty campaign when he got banned. If he wasn't wearing a sig, the plagiarism wasn't financially motivated. He has served a 3 year sentence already. Maybe the admins should consider bringing him back. But it's a difficult decision to make because if you bring back one user, dozens of others will request the same.

No one wants to open Pandora's box and set a precedent, although we all know that a number of people got a second chance, but probably not something like this where the OP is looking for something, and honestly doesn't have the support of more members. The question is how many banned people actually visit the forum, and how many would ask for the same thing as the OP - it seems to me that there may be isolated cases, but certainly not dozens of members would appear and ask for pardon.

I think there should be an option that would allow the banned member to return after x years with a permanent ban on signature and avatar.
