5381  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is there a good way to privately buy Bitcoin? on: April 23, 2022, 03:03:17 PM
@thecodebear, instead of looking for a way to buy Bitcoin anonymously, why not use a mixer to achieve the anonymity you seek? Some may not agree that mixing is a good choice, but if you are looking for anonymous buying, then you will most likely have to agree to prices that are at least 5% less favorable than regular prices.

You can check the hodlhodl that would match what you are looking for, the only question is will you find someone who wants stablecoins and what will be the price.
5382  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Wallet Confidence? on: April 23, 2022, 02:45:55 PM
@worldtraveller321, your thread is in the wrong board, and you know very well that we have a board dedicated specifically to hardware wallets since you have already opened several topics there. In one of these threads, you got at least some of the answers that relate to the question you are asking now.

The Ledger Nano S Plus is a new device, but in terms of safety it is very likely similar to its predecessors. The most important thing in the whole story is how you will save your backup and how you will use your device in the sense that you will always check the matching coin address on the screen of the device and the interface of the program you are using.

Follow all instructions and tips, don't do nonsense and share the seed in any way and it should be OK Wink
5383  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Who else got BTC? on: April 23, 2022, 10:42:49 AM
Jokes aside, who else has received this kind of email?

I received a similar e-mail, with the difference that someone gave me as many as 20 BTC, and as far as I remember it was the same website where the claim was to be made. It is probably a Ledger database that generates a good share of crypto spam, recently joined by Trezor with its data leak.

5384  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is the real value of bitcoin today? on: April 23, 2022, 10:23:35 AM
If we are talking exclusively about comparing Bitcoin with fiat in terms of value, then it is completely pointless to try to determine any meaningful value based on any solid facts. Bitcoin will be worth exactly as much as the market determines its value at all times, and that market is very small compared to some other markets such as the gold or stock markets.

As silly as it may seem to some, the real value of Bitcoin is not what it represents in fiat currency, but in what Bitcoin represents from the Genesis block to the present day - and it is the first decentralized cryptocurrency created as an alternative to the existing financial system. The fact is that anyone can transfer some value at any time, without the mediation or approval of any institution or bank to anyone anywhere in the world.

That’s the real value, no matter how much we started moving away from that idea and following what started a few years ago when some big players started promoting Bitcoin exclusively as digital gold.
5385  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How I got Scammed. on: April 23, 2022, 09:57:10 AM
@Hyphen(-), The telegram is a real paradise for scammers, especially because it is possible to erase the entire history of the conversation and the one who is the victim can not prove what happened at all. In the future, stay away from doing business with strangers through social media, no matter how legitimate the opportunity may seem at the time.

I was introduced to the Telegram group by a friend who suggested that if I am interested in purchasing cryptocurrencies through pear to pear...

Are you sure this is a friend? It seems to me more like an online friend looking for victims like you and then directing them into a trap.

We both agreed, and I paid the Admin in Fiat while waiting for my crypto; however, the seller did not send my crypto, and I was removed from the group immediately after making payment.

Have you used a bank transaction or any form of payment where you can report fraud and claim a refund? If you have any evidence be sure to report that group directly through the Telegram.

On Android, you can report a group or channel via the three-dot menu, choosing "Report", and then selecting the reason.
On iOS, press and hold on a message, then select "Report" and the reason.
5386  Other / Meta / Re: Plagiarism unhandled for 10 days? on: April 23, 2022, 09:35:05 AM
It looks like this user is wearing a signature campaign banner.  Why not ask the campaign manager why this user is being paid to degrade the forum?  There are so many trolls here getting paid by campaign managers, I don't understand why everyone blames the users for collecting easy money, or the forum for giving them a platform, but then lets the campaign manager continue doing business as normal when they're literally the ones paying for this plagiarism and degradation of the forum experience.

I have to admit that I am surprised that you who have been on the forum for so long think this way. The goal of plagiarism reports is to permanently remove such users from the forum, not just remove them from one campaign signature only to then become participants in some other campaign. Given the low entry criteria for most signature campaigns, I'm sure the user in question would find a new campaign very easily.

Going after these users is pointless.  There will just be more popping up to do the same thing.  Expecting the forum to constantly clean this up is also a fool's errand, because no matter how many of these users they ban, there will always be more.

This is nothing new that I have not heard from some other old members of this forum, so although I think this is a wrong attitude, let everyone decide whether to ignore the problem or try to be part of its solution. You forget that it is no longer easy to progress in the ranks since the merit system existed, so anyone who tries to create a new account and plagiarize and spam again will not progress far.

User permanently banned.
5387  Other / Meta / Re: Plagiarism unhandled for 10 days? on: April 22, 2022, 02:53:35 PM
I will add for quantity.

I found more than three plagiarism posts, but I thought it made no sense to report more since nothing was happening regarding previous reports. I thought maybe global mods or who already have permaban authority are overwhelmed with reports, but now I see that cases reported a day or two ago have been resolved positively.
5388  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A simple proposal for an environmental-friendly regulation for Bitcoin mining on: April 22, 2022, 02:12:26 PM
But instead of banning or restricting PoW currencies like Bitcoin, there is actually a much more promising alternative: Large-scale miners should have to demonstrate real carbon neutrality.

Didn't a study in the US demonstrate just that a few months ago? Perhaps this study is not good enough for European bureaucrats who are so intelligent as to advocate a ban on Bitcoin mining while at the same time making statements like this:

European regulators have two tools at their disposal to curb Bitcoin’s hunger for electricity. One is to ban EU-wide mining of cryptocurrencies that use proof-of-work. However, the effect would be limited: Since hardly any mining happens in EU countries, this would have „almost no direct effect on the global mining industry – and thus the energy consumption“ of Bitcoin, says Michel Rauchs, who is a researcher at Cambridge University.

From this it is clear that it is not a matter of fighting pollution, but they use this argument to attack Bitcoin on a completely different level, and that is the ban on trading. We may have wondered when China did this, but let's not be surprised if the EU decides to do the same - because European politicians are not too different from their Chinese counterparts.

This picture speaks more than a thousand words, because if someone cares about 220 TWh more than the 50 000 TWh lost every year due to inefficiency, then I can only conclude that not even 100% green Bitcoin would have any effect on their thinking.

5389  Other / Meta / Plagiarism unhandled for 10 days? on: April 22, 2022, 01:40:41 PM
I'm not happy that I have to open a new thread on the topic of plagiarism/paraphrasing, but I would like one of the moderators/admins to explain why for 10 days no one wants to ban the user I reported for as many as three cases of plagiarism? The matter is very clearly presented in each of the reports and there is no doubt that the user in question uses plagiarism in his posts.

5390  Economy / Economics / Re: Food Processing Centers Across US Burning Down As Food Crisis Worsens on: April 22, 2022, 10:44:27 AM
Someone is just trying to create a conspiracy theory around the whole situation by implying that someone is deliberately sabotaging such centers, even though such things have probably happened before even though no one has paid too much attention to them. What is missing in the whole story may be terrorism, perhaps blaming hackers from Iran or North Korea who caused the fires by hacking electrical installations in those warehouses Roll Eyes

Also if food shortages do become a crisis situation, what is everyones plan for mitigating these issues. What is a good plan for coping with food shortages. Will we revert to traditional hunter gatherer societal tactics and engage in more recreational fishing and hunting. With collection of wild growing crops. Can we grow our own harvest using guerilla gardening and other tactics suited to urban settings.

How does everyone feel about this.

Hunting and fishing should not be a problem in the US, at least there are enough weapons and everyone uses them - and fishing is not hard to learn - although mass hunting of wild animals would very likely mean their extinction. Recall that in the past with a much smaller population in the US there has been a complete destruction of some species by excessive killing for meat and fur.

For those who have some land or garden there is always the option to grow their own fruits and vegetables, or to keep chickens, rabbits, and goats. The problem is that people have lost those skills over time, and supermarkets have become the source of everything they need to live. That may change, but it is the decision of each individual and family - although those living in urban areas do not have too many choices when it comes to their own production.
5391  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are new bitcoin users early or late to the party? on: April 22, 2022, 10:10:51 AM
I feel like I'm too late and the btc price is literally just gonna go sideways forever. Or maybe a slow gradual push up. Maybe in 20 years it will be worth half a mil.

If you are now somewhere between 20 and 30 years old, wouldn't it be very good if 1 Bitcoin is worth $500 000 in 20 years? It is more than x10 for every amount you invest today, and for me personally it is more than a good personal pension fund that no bank or government can take away from you.

I dont think we're gonna see anymore gains like people of the 2010s and 13s experienced. and even 2017...|
Will btc ever hit a million? Or hundred million?

It is quite logical that you can no longer get rich by buying 500 BTC for $1 or 100 BTC for $100, but as some others have already written, Bitcoin was not invented to get rich on it - unfortunately, this is just the result of human greed that is ready to destroy all the good that comes it's way.

I kick myself so hard every night going to sleep that I didn't get in earlier. Liek I'll literally have dreams of being in 2013 when I first heard about it and buying some... T_T

Not very popular advice, but if you want some crazy big money when it comes to cryptocurrencies, you will have to try altcoins. It is a very risky and slippery terrain, but if you can figure out how the whole thing works, you may be able to make a big money with a relatively small investment - although the chances are higher that you will lose everything.
5392  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbies Hodle and profit in a Pumps and Dumps market. on: April 22, 2022, 09:56:02 AM
No one mentions taxes, and in most countries where cryptocurrencies are regulated, the income tax is above 10%, although it is mostly at a rate between 20% and even more than 50% (if I'm not mistaken in Japan) for those who profit the most. Of course you can forget the whole tax thing if you have methods to avoid tax control, but for those who use their bank accounts and centralized crypto exchanges, it's only a matter of time before you are invited to explain the origin of the money in your accounts.
5393  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Be patient, don't get discouraged. on: April 21, 2022, 03:06:02 PM
I applaud some old members who still stay around to correct newbies, I know how it feels to meet different generations of newbies who post meaningless things.
I am not upto a year in this space but some posts get me upset, let alone people that has been here more than 5yrs.

Let's say that before it was much worse when it comes to spam, in the period when I was just a beginner from 2015 until the merit system was introduced spam literally killed the forum. Some very popular signature campaigns at the time did not have managers at all, but were managed by bots - imagine what the forum looked like then.

Regardless of the fact that some may disagree, today we are in a much better position, although I think it would be even better if everyone participated in cleaning the forum by using the "report to moderator" button more. Members who do bad things only do them if they feel they are allowed to, which means ignoring the problem is not the solution but only makes it worse.
5394  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "Behind closed doors, EU officials talk about banning Bitcoin" on: April 21, 2022, 02:22:28 PM
It is hard to believe what European bureaucrats are doing at a time when we are threatened not only by inflation but also by hyperinflation, and when in the 21st century wars of conquest and aggression are being waged in Europe. Together with the banking lobby, they are trying to prove that Bitcoin is responsible for climate change that has been going on for at least 100 years.

To make matters even more tragic, they admit that crypto mining in the EU is not even a problem because it is practically only in traces, but will ban Bitcoin because they want to be globally aware and help hungry children in Africa or polar bears at the North Pole.

Quote

This is just another proof that the world is run mostly by idiots (with rare exceptions) who do not understand why Bitcoin uses POW, and praise some other projects that are of course centralized and use POS. If there is truth in this, then the EU will become more and more like China, which has done exactly what they want now.
5395  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: spend twice more Bitcoins while waiting the block to be verified? on: April 21, 2022, 01:50:24 PM
In theory even a confirmed transaction has still the chance to become invalid.

As far as I know, this can only happen in the case of a 51% attack, when the one who would gain majority control over the hash rate could do double-spend transactions and prevent new transactions from being confirmed.

Many services don't accept your transaction even if it has received 1 confirmation and they require more confirmations.

This has already become the standard procedure for all transactions involving large amounts, but it is completely illogical for me that some ask for 3+ confirmation for any amount - especially if it is a physical store/crypto exchange which only unnecessarily prolongs the whole process. I had several personal experiences where I received the first confirmation in less than 1 minute, but then I waited at least another 10+ minutes for two additional confirmations which, considering the amount, were completely unnecessary.
5396  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Which will be a right choice and why? on: April 21, 2022, 01:32:40 PM
If you are given a choice to choose one of this two wallet which one will go for? Trust wallet vs Exodus wallet and please tell me why....

I will just add to everything that others have already written, that the Trust wallet is exclusively available as a mobile crypto wallet, while Exodus is available in both versions (desktop&mobile). From everything I've read so far, I'm inclined to think that mobile crypto wallets are still most at risk, given that the average smartphone user cares very little or nothing about the security of their device.

I think it is quite risky to use any hot wallet as the main method of storage, because such wallets should only serve to store small values of cryptocurrencies that we use on a daily basis.
5397  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Be patient, don't get discouraged. on: April 21, 2022, 10:51:03 AM
I discovered recently that some established members like ignoring newbies that show no sign of being good forum users. If a particular newbie gets ignored by 20 established members and maybe 5 merit sources, there chances of growth is already reduced.

Everyone has the full right to use the features of the forum in the way they want, and this includes options for ignore on a personal level, as well as ignore entire boards. Although I do not go into the personal preferences of forum members, I can understand that some old members are certainly tired of reading meaningless posts over and over again, and do not visit some forum boards at all.

But this forum is not much different from the real world where everyone has to prove themselves day by day in order to progress in life. People who want success in a hurry, who bypass the rules and think that the world revolves exclusively around themselves will always have problems no matter where they are.
5398  Economy / Economics / Re: IMF: War Dims Global Economic Outlook as Inflation Accelerates on: April 21, 2022, 10:23:32 AM
Rusia is also trapped in this.
What some guys that claim Russia can cut gas to freeze Europe to death might find shocking is that Russia still pays transit money to Ukraine to deliver gas to Europe! The perfect clusterfuck, wars and diplomacy were far easier in medieval times!

We really live in a strange world where on the one hand there is a life-and-death struggle, and on the other hand the EU is sending weapons to Ukraine and billions of euros to Russia for gas and oil. We should also not forget that Russia has something else that is traded and that the EU cannot survive, and that is nuclear fuel.

A few days ago, a Russian plane flew over several EU and NATO member states and landed in Hungary with a precious cargo. For those wondering why Hungary continues to maintain good relations with Russia, here is the answer - the nuclear power plant in Paks satisfies at least a third of the country's electricity.

This reminds me of the Serbian aggression on Croatia in 1991, when Serbia had an embargo on oil imports - and the Croatian oil company INA sold oil to the aggressor country, which was later confirmed in his book by one of the then president's closest associates Hrvoje Šarinić.
5399  Economy / Economics / Re: AUSTRALIA Approves first BITCOIN SPOT ETF. on: April 21, 2022, 09:54:56 AM
Rest assured I will be closely monitoring this.
Some sharp-eyed commenters already linked the tightening of the Grayscale discount to the fact that all those ETFs are “adding pressure” to the SEC for a spot ETF in the US, which would be massive, as the US market is estimated to be a couple of orders of magnitude more prominent than the Australian one.

I may be wrong, but it seems to me that the SEC (US) will be the last to relent, and that we could wait at least another 1-2 years for them to finally approve such an ETF. Although it is about 2 years until the next halving, it might be ideal for these two events to coincide, which would certainly cause perhaps the biggest bull run we have seen so far.

It seems that the crypto market has not yet reacted to this news, but that does not surprise me considering that most ordinary investors do not distinguish between physically-based and futures-based ETFs.
5400  Economy / Economics / Re: AUSTRALIA Approves first BITCOIN SPOT ETF. on: April 20, 2022, 03:10:45 PM
Rumours were true after all: two new ETF just got approved in Australia: this time we are talking about true Spot Bitcoin ETF, not just “wrappers”.

Who would have thought that things would develop like this in Australia, which I personally, from everything I could read, did not perceive as a country that is particularly friendly to Bitcoin. From an article in the OP, their SEC made it clear two years ago that it does not approve such ETFs, and now we have approvals for physical-based ETFs that we know are completely different if we consider that funds will have to buy Bitcoin and keep it in custodial cold wallets.

I'm really interested in how much investors will be interested in this service, or they will prefer futures-based ETFs or maybe direct investment in Bitcoin. In any case, it will be interesting to see if this news will have an impact on the price.
