Man that turned out good, but i see you inserted them into the mobo directly over mounting them horizontal in the extender frame...

Well if I mounted them in the extender frame I would need risers, and the extender only holds 2 I think, not sure. If I need risers, I might as well do a riser build and not bother with the Thermaltake frame Wink
542  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: My pet peeve in gpu mining care to guess? on: June 06, 2017, 08:35:28 PM

I would also say the recent surge in profitability of mining has more inexperienced miners building their first rigs with these more finnicky boards.

You just described me lol

I'm building 2 and 3 card rigs in regular gaming cases because I'm brand stinking new, and it's the easiest, and lastly, risers are sold out everywhere and I'm waiting on them to restock Smiley

Don't worry, my first "Mother board not detecting all my cards" thread is en route. Stand by

Are you mounting all your hardware on a wood board only? i was trying to think of ideas to build mining rigs in the future. I was talking to my parents about my mining efforts Sunday over our weekly breakfast meetup.. they told i could put one in the spare bedroom if its not going to be noisy or leave wires dangling all over.. so i was thinking of buying super cheap oversized atx cases to build them in... like my old Haf X case on my old gaming rig has room for like 6 gpus honestly like this one... https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147227&ignorebbr=1 , it can support 2 PSUs and about 5 GPU's easily for under $70

I just bought this case to play with today and I'm actually really liking it:

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811133317&Tpk=N82E16811133317

I really love that case to man, but after looking into that case i read multiple threads of people complaining about the first 2-3 slots being unusable really, because anything outside of maybe a thin extender card could not fit, because it would hit the motherboard.. also many motherboards now have crazy protrusions in the area of the slots.. so a few builds they were only able to use the last 4 slots to clear obstacles on the motherboard.... this is why that case never became popular and kept its value, heck it was a $350 case when it was released...

I guess I lucked out because the cards went in like butter Smiley

OMG WTF... this case was $350?!? No way I would pay that, the only reason I actually picked it up was because it was $99 at the store I went to, I said eh, what the hell, 8 expansion slots. My last 3 motherboards have been sitting on cardboard because I only had 10 cases and didn't want to buy any more since I'm probably going to move to rise builds instead to help out with density

I did come across a guy on a rig porn post that had a really nice affordable setup...i cant seem to find the post to show the pictures, but i still have the links open for the parts he used on one of my chrome browsers..
He bought a 4ftx8ft sheet of plastic wall paneling from home depot $20, which he cut up to build more than one rig from... then using threaded all rod, he drilled holes in the plastic section he cut to size in all 4 corners, ran the threaded rod from the ground up to the level of the GPU's will sit, using washers and nuts the lock the 2 layers of plastic at the level desired, then on the top level he ran a piece of flat bar across 2 threads at the height for them to screw into and built all his mining rigs using this setup.. cost him like $20/rig to build...He went plastic over wood because of fire hazard he mentioned...

plastic board http://www.homedepot.com/p/1-16-in-x-4-ft-x-8-ft-Plastic-Panel-63003/202090190
threaded rod http://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-3-8-in-16-tpi-x-24-in-Zinc-Plated-Threaded-Rod-802167/204274007
flat bare for GPU's http://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-1-2-in-x-36-in-Aluminum-Flat-Bar-800217/204604762

That looks really good O_O

I struggle so much with cable management - I really look up to the people that have such clean rigs - this case has a really good underside to route everything and I'm not using the plexi glass that it came with yet.

So far about 15 hours running and the 2nd GPU is stead at 68c, the other 2 cards are at 61 and 63c so not horrible.

Here are 4 Dual Card computer cases that I just shoved into a window to exhaust the heat without extraction fan

I'm probably adding either a 5th or another Thermaltake 3 card rig, I don't know if my breaker can handle it though... guess I'll find out.

Seems that it stabilized now and went back to correct hashes for last couple of hours (no intervention from my side thus must be sth with pool....).

The "only" thing is lost profit for those 8 hours with issues.

Yeah back to normalish. Hope those 8 hours weren't diverted.

Phil, I didn't have time to read your long ass post, it had way too many link, seriouly... wtf are you think is?

Can I get a TLDR or TDLR or TDLRR or whatever you kids are calling that short'nd vrsn pls.

Oh while I have you, I'm going to go off topic with something you might be able to help me with.

I just got my risers in, I'm going with molex and going to use all 3 molex on 1 cable to power all 6 risers with molex splitters - the problem is I can't get my msi z170 mobo to read all my GPU's
546  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Fourth alt coin thread last three got oversized. on: June 06, 2017, 01:36:01 PM
Having issues w/zpool too - my hashrates were showing like 1/2 what they were supposed to be - seems it is "fixed" now but who knows wtf.

Question I'm not sure but when I try to adjust my virtual memory I can't adjust it more that my physical memory

Hi guys,

quick question about hash rates.

The rig is 4x1070 + 2x1080Ti. On average Clocks +200to250, Memory -502, TDPs 75-80%

I'm mining skien with alexis78, miner shows cca 3975 MH/s while on pool statistic page I'm seeing anyhwere from 1,8-2,7 GH/s (and continue to drop...). It was OK before as it was showing 3,8-4,0 GH/s but cca 3 hours ago started to show wrong shares. Tried to restart the machine nothing helps, still showing to small number. Also my share before was up to 3%, now at 1,8-2,2%.

Any idea what is going on? It's pools statistic having issues - is anybody else seeing this problem?

Just want to be sure that I'm still getting my fair share of coins and that is jsut statistic what is wrong (i.e. cca 3% vs below 2% what is showing now; skien combinied hasrate of pool is showing currently 110 GH/s)

thx

I posted right above you - having the same issues - glad it's not just me!
549  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: What will you do after get ROI with your mining rig? on: June 06, 2017, 07:39:07 AM
I would buy beer and then mine some more.

ROI will never happen because it will just get re-injected into the operation.

Is something wrong with the GUI again? my hash rate is showing up as 1/3'd of what my miner is reporting, 3GH/s only showing up as 1GH; 1GH only showing up as 350MH/s etc etc.

Thanks anyone.
552  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Fourth alt coin thread last three got oversized. on: June 05, 2017, 07:17:52 PM
@philip or anyone really -

wtf is the deal with open box items @ newegg- never ordered open box before but 3 PSU's - 2 mobo's i bought open box - and all 5 items are defective.

won't be buying open box again lol. nice waste of time right there.

I spent like 2 hours messing with a brand new mobo swapping parts 1 at a time just thinking wtf am i doing wrong?! lol... then for some reason a few cables on the open box PSU i was using was out of reach, and cables on a new EVGA were in reach, so I just used those, and bam.... worked like nothing was wrong. I was actually almost going to cry because in my head I was thinking "What if it's the 1080Ti's that are bad...please no, please nooooooooo... not my babies!"

ok off to play some more.

Thanks everyone for this new hobby. it's infuriating ... but fun.
553  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Whats the lifespan of a GPU? on: June 05, 2017, 06:58:32 PM
Avg lifespan if I were to guess would probably be about what the manufacturers warranty gives you - they aren't dummies Wink
554  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 8x GTX 1080 Ti New Build Zcash on: June 05, 2017, 03:40:40 PM
Very nice setup indeed

It's not very obvious, you have two PSU for one rig?

Suggestion... to remove the blankets under the PSU's

@ 0:57 in the vid he says that he's using the EVGA 1600 for the mobo & 5 cards, and the EVGA 1000 for the other cards

what psu you are using to run so many beast like that? a 2k psu or double psu?

See above Smiley

Phil, WTF, check your PM's and your emails. I also text messaged and tried to facetime you. And skyped you. You didn't answer any of them yet. Hurry up!

Tongue

Man I've been back and forth to Best Buy and the local shop all day today, grabbed 3 motherboards, only 1 worked but only slots 1 & 2 GPU's work, slot 3 doesn't work so it's a 2 card rig for now.

The other 2 boards I'm taking back right now. Going to get some more boards to play with and hope they work.

All this really does take up a ton of time. lol

You got me to smile.

I switched off skein and am doing Zec via nicehash.

Runs a bit cooler.

Still does not earn as much as skein.

But I jump to Zec one or two days each week.

Smart - for the past 3 hours Skein earnings are zero - it's basically flatlined, how that is possible I have no idea. Maybe the graph is messed up or something but i don't know how my earnings are going sideways and not up lol.

Guess I'll swap it over to Zec myself.

557  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining + Personal PC setup? on: June 04, 2017, 08:04:56 PM
Hello mining gods,

Just been wetting my feet on this world for several weeks now. My current plan is to set up 5-6 gpu rig that I can also use as my personal computer. Is this a possibility? I have seen very few people demonstrating such set up but I was not sure if this would be efficient. I know GPU mining does not really affect ram, cpu, and sdd power so if I use something like z270 + i5-7500 and use integerated graphic card, wouldnt it be decent personal computer I can use while mining full time?

GIGABYTE Z270P
i5-7500
4-8gb ram
evga g3 1000w PSU
1070 x 5 or 6

Basically my goal is to set up a rig that can be fully efficient as mining rig but also fully functional as personal computer without affecting the performance of mining. Is this quite possible? not a heavy gamer, mostly browsing, streaming. I believe integrated graphics will do fine but occassionally I guess I can take one gpu off from the mining task to play some game? Is this possible? Any advice is appreciated. Also, which 1070 do you guys recommend? I been hearing evga hybrid, evga stock etc etc.

Thanks guys.

Don't have computers with 5 or 6 1070's - All my computers are only 2 1080Ti's for now but same specs pretty much as what you're planning and I have ZERO problems surfing the web and downloading updates configs etc which mining.

When I'm updating them I actually leave it mining until it's time for me to implement the changes. So installing stuff, tweaking, general surfing have no effect that I can notice while it's mining - of course as w/everything YMMV
558  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Which gtx 1080 ti brand is the best? on: June 04, 2017, 04:57:15 AM

That's a typo

Look on newegg you will see the 1708 is the core number not the memory number.

Look the asus strix is a good card.

But it is costly.

I am getting Msi aero's as low as 590 usd so why pay over 779 plus tax at newegg or Amazon.
Cheapest MSI is $699 not sure where you get yours from, i think i will go with 2x EVGA FE , $1400 no taxes is a good deal.

I like Evga  good rma policy  .

agreed and I have 5 EVGA FE. Earlier RMA a 1070 and EVGA processed it very smoothly.

Also let you know Gigabyte provides 4 years warranty for Aorus cards, could be a plus for reselling. And I heard Gigabyte improved its RMA service greatly recently.

I was worried about if one of my cards went down how difficult it would be to get replaced. How long was the turn around, did they offer to do advanced RMA and cross ship the item? I don't like it when they have to wait and then ship, it's best that they ship and you ship at the same time I hate waiting for replacements.

Thanks.

Spent the last like 3 hours on this Biostar Racing z170GT7 but it's a no go.

It has 4 PCIex16 slots but it wasn't working but only on the first slot.

So I tried in slot #2, it didn't detect the card at all.

In slots # 3 and #4 it would just power cycle the board.

Super upsetting, was going to see if I could overheat it with 4 1080Ti's lol
560  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GTX1080ti's: Better Options? on: June 04, 2017, 12:16:36 AM
Miningpoolhub. I just downloaded nemosminer with alexis 78. Same result as my setup from before, will test for stability until morning.
You should clean up with all those ti's coming your way  Smiley

EDIT: replied to your pm btw

yeah he will I am doing very well at 11gh of hash on skein

Phil your last 24hrs look amazing! You're averaging 0.005020135 mBTC/MH/s
