To keep it REALLY simple, you could just take the block reward down to 100 coins per block.  That will add enough age to the coin where you don't need to add a halvening or have more coins be created after the cap is hit as it'll take much longer to hit the cap and then we'll be established enough to rely on miner fees alone.
This is an excellent idea.  I have avoided Piggy so far because of the block reward setup.  If you do this, I would invest.

I will start a vote on this, if the community agrees we will do it.

Member MyFarm sent this "100 coins per block is still 72,000 coins per day and 26,280,000 coins per year.  That's a LOT, but MUCH better than what we have now.  As you are now, you're really NOT aimed to kids because there is no way you'll get a $.01 per coin valuation.  No kid is going to play with $.00003223 per coin valuation.  But with 100 coins per block, we can get a valuation of $.01 per coin in my opinion which kids DO understand.", and I think he´s right, that's just my position though, let's see what the community thinks.

Pretty bad idea imo as it benefits current piggycoin holders way too much.

What do you suggest? A bigger number than 100?

Keep it the same or implement a decreasing block reward. Premine was 21 million coins. This corresponds to 5250 blocks which is already quite a large number. By lowering the block reward to 100 it'll increase to 210000 blocks. Will pretty much lose all credibility of the coin if this goes through imo.

I was trying to avoid a decreasing block reward, what about keeping it the same and discuss it further ahead?
As the voting page shows, people want a block reward decrease.  If not 100, then 500 which I can live with.  As long as you commit to giving most of those premine coins to kids and developing apps to support that, then we're in business and this coin can do a LOT of good.  If you keep everything the same, I guarantee this coin will go nowhere.

Even maybe 500 is too small, we need new miners to be incentived to mine

Should block rewards be reduced? Please vote.

EDIT: deleted topic.

If you choose the last option please specify.

We are changing if there's an agreement.

100 piggies/block - 80 years until they are all mined

500 piggies/block - 16 years until they are all mined

Obviously you know my vote Smiley

If this coin is going to be aimed towards kids which I think is AWESOME and what makes it unique, then we have to strive for a $.01 valuation per coin because that's what kids will understand.  If a teacher sees that the kids have to deal with .0000421354 valuation per coin, I just don't think it's going to happen.

Reducing the block reward keeps things simple yet allows there to still be tons of coin yet be rare enough that I feel we can get a $.01 valuation.

If we DO fork, please be sure to fork at a future block so the pools and exchanges can implement the new code.  I've seen a couple coins break because the dev put the fork only a few minutes ahead.  Heheh.

Lol, if we do fork we have to do it days after the decision, I want everyone updated and informed about this.

I've jumped onboard this coin.  I like the idea of a coin aimed towards kids.

Question for the dev though:

1.  What happens when the 2 billion coins are mined out?  If there isn't reward halving, do blocks suddenly just stop giving coins?

2.  I'd suggest a fork with some strong reward halving SOON and then at the last halving, let each block still have some number of coins so there is some incentive to mine much like dogecoin.

Hey, as I stated before the coin is like this in the sake of simplicity. So its easier to understand and comprehend by outsiders. What if we add rewards after the last block, so miners keep the network alive and we can still keep it simple?

Hey! We are doing what we can to add services. A new website is being built (with an area for parents/educators) and the educative faucet is being built as well (that will be our first game), android wallet is in project.

On a separate topic: This decision was made to keep the coin "simple", simple to explain and simple to comprehend but if the community wants to revisiting the decision I don't have any problem with that.

I apologise if my post came across a little harsh Smiley

There are lots of good aspects of this coin, but if it hurries its way up the exchange ladder before a relevant service surround is built then it may be destined for the 1 satoshi scrapheap, which would be a shame. The focus should be kept on building value into the coin through its main differentiator (target audience = kids): services where kids can earn, exchange with friends, and spend pigs. Exchanges follow value. So it's good to hear a relevant service surround is being built.

My vote would be to introduce block reward reductions, keeping the total number of coins the same and not having an abrupt stop to rewards. Examining the impacts of reward reductions could even be an important education point too - at least for the older kids.

We'll have to discuss this further to see if the community agrees but as I said before we will do it if there's a consensus.

First of all we need separated websites, one for the kids (more fun) and one for the parents (more technical), it would be nice if we also created videos explaining piggycoin (one for the kids and one for the parents). then we have to partner up with websites kids use so piggy can be treated as a reward and so we get known by the people we are targeting. In the meantime a piggy store will be created do kids can spend their coins, this piggy store will have merchandise and it will be a place where people can sell for piggy.

Partnering with the right kid website will really propel the coin into the media...

Also the idea about having a 'piggystore' something simple and easy for kids like just fun/cheap toys & stuff where they can spend their piggycoins would be a huge hit.

From the OP:
-Video & website for parents explaining how piggy coins can be used to educate their kids on the value of saving

I just really wish the coin had some sort of POS, so the kids could learn about saving and earning interest

We are working hard right now on the piggystore and website, updates soon.

Getting on another exchange is good. But following the usual ladder of exchange listings shouldn't be a priority for this coin. It is targeted at a particular group of people (or two: children and their parents/teachers/guardians), and it will succeed or fail depending on what services are available for those people and how well it is marketed to them. The potential is huge, although the odds of achieving anything of that potential are certainly stacked against it. Unfortunately this is not an area where I can add much value.

On a separate topic: I don't understand the reason for abruptly stopping block rewards entirely at a certain height rather than have them halve at periodic intervals. Unless the coin takes off in a huge way (and we should assume it won't), there will be little incentive to secure the network. How does the community feel about revisiting that decision?

exchange plz

yeah! an exchange would be awesome. I would love to be listed on coinmarket.io, I just sent them a tweet!
That's something the community can help with though! Write tweets, write on irc's, talk to exchange owners!

Posted From bitcointalk.org Android App

Stay away from coinmarket.io for the time being.  They have been down for weeks now, at least 2.  Try cryptorush.in, they seem to be favorable to new coins

I talked to cryptorush's dev, he said we need to be way higher in the voting page.

Glad we have some interest in this direction. I think just simply getting a site up and functioning would be such a major step for PR. (regardless of how much traffic it may or may not initially have) If we had a game/rewards site to attract people to visit- I guarantee we would get some unbelievable PR and drive a lot of interest! That in turn would bring more miners and more investors. I can see the headline now "Piggycoin: The Bitcoin for Kids!" Also love the idea of incorporating schools and parents- there should be info on the site so that teachers and classes could use Piggy as rewards for reading a certain number of books per month, good conduct, finishing homework, etc. The ideas are limitless.

Talking to a website dev right now, he says the new sites can be up and running soon. I will ask him to make a "for teachers/educators" section.

Hey guys!

I really love to see all this community evolvement, it's what will make us stand out in the long term.
I have some ideas on this project's future, I will make you a timeline of how I think things should advance (things aren't defined yet and ALL suggestions will be considered and discussed.

This are the things I had in mind atm. While all of this happens I'm sure we will be added to mite exchanges and coin market cap, like some people were asking.

EDIT: I really like VTC's idea btw.

Great, the exchange you listed on CRYPTOEX seems to be a total scam.  It looks like I am going to lose 2 LTC that I deposited there to try to purchase your coins.  Fantastic...
Anything you can do please?

Hey man. Thanks for the heads up, I added a warning in the announcement.
I see they are having some problems with withdrawals, there's not much I can do but I'll try to talk to them, I recommend waiting a bit though, the administrator should eventually say something.
