543  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gap Observer mtgox / bitstamp / btc-e / campbx on: August 15, 2013, 11:45:05 PM
mtgox - bitstamp arbitrage history for last 24h

1) Volume of 10 BTC:
arbitrage opportunity in orderbooks (MKT Price %) - 14.109 %
arbitrage realized in trades (VWAP Traded %) - 14.337%

2) Volume of 10 BTC
arbitrage opportunity in orderbooks (MKT Price %) - 14.451 %
arbitrage realized in trades (VWAP Traded %) - 14.522%

2) Volume of 100 BTC
arbitrage opportunity in orderbooks (MKT Price %) - 14.157 %
arbitrage realized in trades (VWAP Traded %) - 14.523%

Interesting that there are also both 1000 BTC Volume and 10000 BTC Volume arbitrage percent visible.
Although MKT Price arbitrage is less than 12% for 1000 BTC Volume.
And for 10000 BTC Volume it even negative for half of last 24hours.

While realized arbitrage in trades shows significant percent for 1000 and 10000 BTC Volume. As high as 14.025 %.

Interesting...

you can't cashed out from gox - or it takes forever - so this is meaningless

... I do not report/file taxes in America and have heard that is fine. ...

I do not know who has given you this advice, but I strongly suspect it is very wrong and very dangerous. I would go straight to the source. http://www.irs.gov/Individuals/International-Taxpayers/U.S.-Citizens-and-Resident-Aliens-Abroad

As Bitcoin exchanges Bitstamp seems to be the choice for now especially if you are in Europe and can use SEPA. I have not used them myself so I do not have direct experience with them. Here in Canada I use Virtex; however in a somewhat similar and stricter fashion to bitcoin.de one has to be a Canadian citizen resident in Canada to use them. MTGox is currently having a lot of issues with fiat withdrawals, I expect that this will eventually get sorted out especially for currencies other than USD and MTGox will remain a viable and strong business; however there are many on this board that have a very different point of view that is worthy of consideration before risking any funds there.

cavirtex just added a merchant API, I think it'll make the prices there even lower as you have a higher selling demand (I just don't see how most merchants would want to keep BTC instead of fiat).
545  Economy / Securities / Re: Who is BTC Garden scammer? on: August 15, 2013, 04:48:49 AM
Yianding is a policy arbitrager instead of pure scammer. He is clever enough to use the legal loopholes of bitcoin to make profits. Strictly speaking, corwdfunding is completely against present Chinese law. Therefore, he can extort the manager of BTC Garden in the disguise of law defender. This is a really bad start for all Chinese BTC companies because there will be another copycat sooner or later once Yianding succeeds. Now it seems that he wins his final prize because he successfully forced BTC Garden IPO-suspend. This is an unprecedented threaten for bitcoin society because the scammer now endanger the whole bitcoin stock system.

I'm sure SEC is also lurking somewhere

Fortunately, SEC does not have jurisdiction over Chinese citizens or Chinese companies. How can SEC regulate a non-US company with foreign shareholders?

they can seize the domain of the exchanges - I'm pretty sure there are US citizen using BTCT that participated in BTC Garden IPO

there are many challenges facing bitcoins

547  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker - Hardcore on: August 15, 2013, 04:14:52 AM
During the last 3 days about 20k BTC have disappeared from the order book (at least as I write this).
Do you think it's just one major player (possibly a company) buying? Is the withdrawal of funds from Fort Gox via BTC over?
I think it's one major player (probably a company) instigating and maintaining the uptrend to acquire an inventory of bitcoins as cheaply as possible while keeping the price as stable as possible to protect their assets.

I think it's multiple people with big cash balances on Gox losing patience seeing buying as the safest way out, but trying not to spook the market too much as they do so. I would like to see numbers for BTC leaving Ft Gox if they are available. I am pretty sure there is not a crowd banging on the door to give them more USD right now, so it's a one way street.
Massive first mover advantage here ... buy, hold, let BitStamp follow, cash out $10 later. Or $15 as it is now. Or hold for the panic run. Nobody talks of it, but there will be one if they continue to make no progress whatsoever on finding a banking partner to work with.
Confidence in Gox is decreasing and there is only one way out. Could get really crowded ...
Edit: Oops, just got back from the ballpark (Jays beat Bsox in extra innings), had a few beers and posted the quote without a comment (facepalm).

I don't think the MtGox situation has been that big an issue, worldwide, since early July's capitulation. If you look at the pattern of ask-wall busting whale purchases and ensuing bid-walls, they seem to be the work of a single entity. The modus operandi has been consistent through several major ask-wall breakthroughs.

Do you really think someone with the resources to organize such a concerted effort is restricted by some petty exchange difficulties.

It's probably either governmental, corporate or military. It's almost surely not speculators.

gov't buying up all the bitcoins so it can kill it !!!!!  Grin (It became necessary to destroy the town to save it)

indeed - does that include the blades?  If not, it's acceptable.  If it includes the blades, it's a major miss.
551  Economy / Exchanges / Re: MtGox withdrawal delays [Gathering] on: August 12, 2013, 11:36:54 PM
Some believe the fund is frozen in some bank accounts and they just cannot meet the withdraw request as they are insolvent.

If you claim anything else, you are tryin' to sell some bullshit.
Listen to this guy - he's an expert bullshit seller so he knows what he's talking about.

i'd love to see him perform a whole page of discussion with his twin brother Jaroslaw but that's perhaps too hard to pull off.
would be a nice paradoxon though.  Cheesy

his twin brother has disappeared for a while.
553  Economy / Economics / Re: China Central Television (CCTV) give a positive report on bitcoin on: August 12, 2013, 08:51:42 PM
I think the Chinese are into profiteering, the lure of simply turning on a computer and making lots of money is attractive; similarly, making and selling these machines is attractive as well.  I don't think they care too much about the ideals of bitcoin and what not.

Westerners are very skeptical when it comes to bitcoin, finance, money making, technology.  In general, I say Westerners give up 'freedom / liberty' on their money in the form of high taxation, forced savings / pension plans and favor freedom of expression / movements, etc.  Chinese are much more willing to give up traditional liberty for money.

558  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gox, Bitstamp, et al. on: August 12, 2013, 02:38:25 PM
In the current situation, what I really cannot understand (and what frightens me), is why the hell MtGox itself does not arbitrage against e.g. BitStamp? Being MtGox, you can surely skip lengthy queues and move fiat to from MtGox native bank to BitStamp bank .. and voila ..

This $10 difference indicates that this process does not work .. and this is alarming for me.

A lot of people believe mt gox is insolvent - reason being some of their bank accounts is frozen.  If that's the case, the profit of mt gox playing market maker and arbing behind us will not save itself.
559  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gox, Bitstamp, et al. on: August 10, 2013, 09:41:32 PM
If it's possible to arb the thing, the gap will be 'insignificant'.  I recall BTC-E used to be a 10% discount to MtGox, I was arbing it like crazy through OKPay.  The difference eventually is about 4%.  After OKPay, AurumXchange and all those guys disappear, gap increase again.  Barring places where moving currency is potentially difficult because of regulation (China) or expensive because of fees, I don't think the prices will diverge much.

Currently, there are disconnect because of difficulty with most exchanges when dealing with fiat.
560  Economy / Economics / Re: China Central Television (CCTV) give a positive report on bitcoin on: August 10, 2013, 05:16:11 PM
That's not really a positive report.  It talks about the distributed, P2P, without central issuing authority and 'anonymous' nature of bitcoin and supporter view those as a positive which will make it the ultimate currency.  Then it switches tone - in the investment world, few are into bitcoins - Warren Buffet never bought any BTC.  In main street, few understand bitcoins.  Skeptics believe that its the natures listed above that will doom bitcoin as people only used it for speculation or money laundering or buying drugs or doing illegal things without fear of prosecution.  Whether bitcoin will succeed or not has yet to be determined.

In general, you can say it's a 'balance' to slightly 'negative' report.
