Out of curiosity I just checked how long it took our local board to get several child boards, and it seems that more than 2 and a half years passed from the moment marlboroza created Croatian local - new child board request - moderator request back in March 2018 and we got new child boards in December 2020. And still waiting for our local mod.
I remember that. But I think the admins were quite fast to respond in our case when they were PMed with our requests. Was it marlboroza or dkbit98 who contacted them? I forgot. We voted on which child-boards we needed, explained how the local was cluttered the way it was back then, and the mods agreed with us. We didn't even create unnecessary work for the staff by expecting them to move the threads to where they belong. Most of the active local members took the initiative and moved their own topics. Those were interesting days. Smiley
5462  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Firmware Update? on: May 05, 2022, 07:25:55 AM
Update usually fix bug though.
I wanted to say that if you check release notes for your crypto apps or the Ledger Live, and you notice that certain bugs or vulnerabilities that can affect you were fixed, that's a good reason to update your software. Or if you notice that your Ledger device is acting differently. For example, there seems to be some disconnection issues with the HWs currently according to the notes I can see on GitHub. If I were to notice something like that with my device as well, it would be a good idea to update LL if I didn't already do that.
5463  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Italian League Prediction Thread (Serie A) on: May 05, 2022, 07:16:47 AM
Who do you think can take away points from Milan from the remaining teams: Verona, Atalanta or Sassuolo?
I think all three of them are tough nuts to crack, no matter what the league table is showing.

Verona has been delivering excellent results under Igor Tudor who is doing a great job. They are not easy to defeat and could steal a point. An in-form Atalanta can beat any team in the Serie A. Their problem now is a lack of motivation from losing the Champions League places and maybe even the Europa League. Gossens moving to Inter didn't help either. But if Roma and Lazio mess up, Atalanta can still get there. Sassuolo's biggest concern is awful defensive displays, but they are good in attack. Berardi, Raspadori, and Scamacca are all playing great seasons and raking up goals and assists regularly.
5464  Other / Meta / Re: Advertising and shilling on Bitcointalk on: May 05, 2022, 07:03:26 AM
Believe me, or was this just another paid post?  Wink.
The part of my post you quoted doesn't say that if you notice someone shill something, it's definitely paid shilling. It says that it's quite possible that it is. I believe that still to be true. Of course that doesn't apply to all sorts of products, gear, or services. No one would believe that Elon Musk pays you a fortune every month to advertise his Cybertruck on Bitcointalk. That wouldn't make sense. If I purchased an excellent smartphone or a computer I am really happy with and I made those feelings public, it goes without saying that Dell and Samsung aren't paying me for advertising campaigns.

On the other hand, if I started shilling a suspicious crypto wallet, casino, or a relatively unfamiliar/unpopular service or product, there might be some ulterior motives behind all that. So it always depends, what is shilled and who does it.

I asked the same thing some time ago  in Request for Nigeria local board, which is like their main local board request topic (imho, they should focus their efforts in one thread only)
Yeah, they really should. It gets confusing this way when you have multiple threads and you have to go back and forth to check what has already been said. I forgot about the other one and saw that it wasn't mentioned in this one.

Our leader C.Brainboss has been sending PMs to both administrators since last month and has yet to receive a response, so for the time being, we are bumping the thread and pretending it has not reached the eyes of Thymos.
I hope I am wrong for the sake of the Nigerians, but if you haven't received any response after all this time, I am afraid the admins don't consider it that important of an addition. Maybe in the new forum. No reason to give up though.
5466  Other / Meta / Re: Race to 10K Merit club..... on: May 04, 2022, 08:53:31 AM
Sometimes I wonder where @o_e_l_e_o, @LoyceV, @suchmoon , @Ratimov, @DdmrDdmr, @JayJuanGee and @fillippone derives all the energy and zest to make contributions in this forum.
The answer is simple really...

So we have the first winner to this race and undoubtedly he is none other than @o_e_l_e_o who has shattered the record of reaching this mark after @LoyceV and also with most earned merit tag.
o_e_l_e_o should be one of the go-to guys when you want to learn something Bitcoin-related. If there is a thread where the OP needs help and guidance and there is a post by o_e_l_e_o there somewhere, be sure that he has covered every possible angle and provided a detailed explanation. He leaves very little room for anyone else to add something Grin (the bastard). Sometimes you feel a little ashamed how much he knows because you can't keep up with him.
5467  Other / Meta / Re: Help end this phase for Nigerians @Theymos on: May 04, 2022, 08:33:57 AM
Have any of you from the Nigerian local thread PMed theymos or Cyrus to speak with them and see how they feel about your request? They have certainly seen the thread, but you should ask the admins are there plans to create a Nigerian local or not. Ask them what you can do to help and which sub-boards you would like to have.

Milan's 3 remaining fixtures are tougher than those of Inter. And Inter has a more quality squad in my opinion. If they manage to win against Empoli in their next fixture, I think they will turn it around because I see Milan dropping some points. Empoli is a bastard of a team and they have made life difficult for Juventus and Napoli. They play best against the strongest opponents.

I am looking forward to the Derby d'Italia cup final between Juve and Inter in about one week.
5470  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [GUIDE] How to buy a Hardware Wallet the right way on: May 04, 2022, 07:39:00 AM
I thought you actually have to do CEX-style KYC (video camera and ID card), but it's possible that I'm wrong; as I said, I don't have personal experience on this. However, as Pmalek says, with fake information it might work, but very clearly fake information will probably be filtered out automatically.
Unless they added personal document verification into the mix in the last couple of years, it shouldn't be a requirement. It could also depend on the network provider, who knows. It's been a couple of years since I last purchased and activated a EU SIM card.
5471  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Firmware Update? on: May 04, 2022, 07:30:37 AM
There are few certain things in life. One of those things is that Jerry will come back once every few months to ask how often he should update his Ledger apps and the firmware. Update them when a new version is available or don't. Your choice. Read the release notes about what was changed in the new releases and decide for yourself if that is something you need. If bugs and vulnerabilities were fixed, update it.

No questions about passphrases this time?
5472  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Bread Wallet now Coinbase Wallet - Help Needed on: May 04, 2022, 07:15:50 AM
Can someone please provide a safe recipe for migrating from a BRD wallet that includes both BTC and ETH to, let's say, the Coinbase Wallet or some other better noncustodial wallet?
Not sure what you mean with recipe, maybe guide or instructions.

When you created your BRD wallet, you received and hopefully wrote down your seed. That's a BIP39 seed phrase compatible with any other wallet that supports that standard. If you don't want to use Coinbase, you can import it into Electrum, for example. But Electrum only works for Bitcoin.

Only download Electrum from the official website. Verify the signatures to ensure you have the genuine software signed by Electrum developers.
After that, it's time to import your seed. Create a new wallet, give it a name, and select Standard Wallet. Select I already have a seed. In the next step, you need to click on the options and then tick on BIP 39 seed and OK. Enter your seed and click ok. After that the wallet should ask you what type of wallet you are trying to recover. Select legacy if the addresses start with a 1, nested segwit if they begin with a 3, or native segwit if they begin with bc1. There should also be a button to scan standard derivation paths if you can't figure out how to select the correct option yourself.

You can also follow this guide if you want > https://bitcoinelectrum.com/restoring-your-multibithd-wallet-in-electrum/

When it comes to your Ethereum, you can import the same seed from BRD into MetaMask, for example. I don't know the step by step instructions, but it shouldn't be too difficult to figure out by just following the on-screen instructions. You can follow a guide like this one if you want > https://medium.com/publicaio/how-import-a-wallet-to-your-metamask-account-dcaba25e558d.

Be aware that if you do all of the above, you are going to have a seed phrase imported across 3 different hot wallets. If any of them gets hacked, the hacker would gain access to all your coins. I would recommend you to create brand-new wallets with new seed phrases in both Electrum and MetaMask. Once you have imported your wallets, move your coins from the old wallet into the new ones. Consider purchasing a hardware wallet if you hold a significant amount.
5473  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Any vulnerabilities in changing OLED screen of Ledger Nano S? on: May 03, 2022, 07:10:18 PM
Sure, he will lose warranty by doing this, but it's not rocket science to open ledger device, they are even suggesting doing this on their website if customer want to check hardware integrity and that device was not been tampered with.
https://support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/4404382029329-Check-hardware-integrity?support=true
That's true. But there is also an important notice at the bottom in bold letters that doing that voids the warranty. So the user has to weigh up his options and decide what is better. Don't open the device physically and remain in doubt about the hardware, or open it and forget about complaining to Ledger if problems arise down the road.

The warranty is most likely 12 or 24 months, as usual. 24 months seems unlikely to me.
Ledger hardware wallets come with a 2-year warranty. But I remember a case with a member from the forum who got his HW replaced even after the warranty expired. They have also confirmed something similar to me (I posted the screenshot somewhere in this sub) and said that the device would be replaced in some cases even after the warranty expired.

This is getting interesting. How will ledger get out with those buyers who need to replace defective devices under warranty, but they will not be available. Will company send a new HW model, that is the question.
They could offer a discount if you purchased a new device. The new HW minus whatever you paid for your Nano S.
5474  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: in case of death; mandatory bitcoin deathswitch Dead man's switch on: May 03, 2022, 06:52:54 PM
<Snip>
I like this proposal even more than the nLocktime feature. With Andriian's solution, there is no need to re-create the timelocked transaction after a certain period has passed. To invalidate the old one, you would have to spend one of the inputs thereby creating additional transaction costs. Not that big of a deal, but still. Or if you don't want to do that, you can create a timelocked transaction for a decade in advance, but you would be leaving your heirs waiting for a long time to get to the coins.

But with Andriian's method, the sender would only need to create a new timelocked transaction if the receiver tried to broadcast it while the sender is still alive. In other cases, the sender only checks the status. That's good and it doesn't even have to be done that often. If the transaction timelock expires in one year, the sender would only have to check the status one time during that period.

But there are some negatives as well. No wallet uses Andriian's proposal. It only works in a testing environment and on a mobile wallet. If you wanted to use it, both parties would be required to use that one and only wallet. There is no desktop solution yet. Even if it was live on mainnet, it would have to be thoroughly checked and tested for bugs and vulnerabilities before being recommended.

But I hope he succeeds in creating this. It looks really interesting.
5475  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why do someone send bitcoin to those puzzle addresses? on: May 03, 2022, 09:32:13 AM
1. Create a puzzle that no one is able to solve.
2. Fund the underlying address with a little bit of Bitcoin.
3. Deposit more Bitcoin to it as an added incentive.
4. Find sponsors and people willing to fund it further or hope someone will for whatever the reason.
5. After some time, take all the coins and leave.
6. Thank you for the free Bitcoin you sent me.

The end.
5476  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: in case of death; mandatory bitcoin deathswitch Dead man's switch on: May 03, 2022, 09:23:39 AM
My favourite solution is the timelock dead man switch with nLocktime, which is described in this thread. The problem is that the popular wallets don't make it too easy to create this kind of transactions.
Another problem is that you don't know when you are going to die. Let's assume you want to leave your coins to your children. You set up a timelock with nLocktime at a future block around the time you will turn 70. But if you suffer a heart attack and die at 60, your children will have to wait 10 years to get access to the coins. It would be great if timelocked transactions could be edited to broadcast earlier upon showing the needed cryptographic proof. I don't have much knowledge of the subject, maybe they already can.

I don't know if you ever wondered what would happen to all your email addresses and online accounts if you die without leaving your backup passwords to your family members or lawyer.
I have heard of examples where Facebook has given the parents of a missing child access to their Facebook account in order to see if they can retrace their last steps or find some clues from the messages with their friends. In a way, social media accounts are inheritable. I don't see why that couldn't work for email accounts as well.
5477  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [GUIDE] How to buy a Hardware Wallet the right way on: May 03, 2022, 08:40:44 AM
So nothing stopping you entering a bunch of fake information then?
Yeah, you could do that. Worse case scenario is they block your SIM card and you just threw away €20 or something for purchasing it. You have to submit an address and your name among other things. They probably check that data and compare it with entries in some central database. That could create some red flags.

If it's a real address, they might see that a married couple already registered their phones with that address. If it's a fake address that doesn't exist, they might discover that. If you use a real name from someone you find on the Internet, their checks might show that person is already registered and lives somewhere else. If you sign up with Donald Duck from Thanksgiving Street 47/c, they can tell you that address doesn't exist, and ask for additional info and maybe proof of identity and address.

It depends on how thorough their checks are. Maybe they are randomly picking lucky winners whose data will be reviewed in detail, while others are accepted without any major problems.
5478  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [GUIDE] How to buy a Hardware Wallet the right way on: May 03, 2022, 07:51:47 AM
Has anyone of you ever gotten a phone call about a shipment? Because I haven't.
I guess you have never tried ordering something in the Balkans then, have you? Grin Depending on the shipping company, the driver, and your luck, you might have to search for him on your block. Some dudes call you when they are close to check if you are home and if they can deliver to the assigned address. If they are not from your city, don't know how to work the GPS, or something else, they aren't always sure where to find you. So you have to find them. Wink
If you can get a private and prepaid SIM card, just keep one of those around with some old phone you used in the past that you activate when you expect a delivery.

You mean you can't purchase a SIM card without handing over KYC data? Even a prepaid one or one which you simply top up with cash? Am I handing my info over to the cashier in the store? Or I have to upload documents online when I register the SIM? That's ridiculous.
Even the prepaid cards you buy on gas stations or shopping malls require online registration. You don't have to submit any documents though and you aren't giving any info to the cashier. Until you register and fill out the forms, the card remains inactive. In my experience, you can sometimes get the card unblocked relatively quickly, like 10-15 mins after data submission, but it can also take an hour or two. I can only conclude that someone somewhere is checking your entries.
5479  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Any vulnerabilities in changing OLED screen of Ledger Nano S? on: May 03, 2022, 07:21:14 AM
You know they are not manufacturing ledger nono S devices anymore, so they can only send stuff they made before...
That's most probably it. Maybe they had enough Nano S devices in stock when the rebranding happened that they immediately decided not to manufacture new ones.

It's not that big of a difference, but one thing he can do is opening ledger device and checking revision number written on board, and compare it with one on ledger website.
I wouldn't recommend him to do that. He should at least know that opening the hardware wallet results in voiding the warranty. If he breaks something or the device malfunctions while under warranty period, Ledger won't replace it for free if they see that he tampered with it.
5480  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: The default Wasabi Wallet coordinator will start censoring "illegal" UTXOs on: May 03, 2022, 06:58:47 AM
I claimed Samourai is a scam, and explained the reason why: it markets itself as a privacy wallet while it has very bad privacy. People who use it are promised privacy, but they don't get it.
And Wasabi was supposed to be a privacy solution as well, but it has very bad privacy because of your new collaborations with whoever pays more to deanonymize users.

Samourai users are the victims of the Samourai scam.
And Wasabi users are the victims of censorship, Wasabi taint scam, and being offered a partnership with blockchain analysis companies deanonymizing those who seek anonymity. You announcing it or not doesn't change what you and your new business partners are doing.
