5461  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Does a Bitcoin full node need to process transactions after downloading them? on: July 26, 2018, 04:52:36 AM
Could be the data directory, but it's already at height=330623.

You mentioned that you've used a Windows Computer to "download" the blockchain, did you downloaded it from torrent/hosting service or copied from a full synced node?
Because the chance that the source (is outdated) wasn't updated to the latest height is high.
5462  Other / Meta / Re: BCT have gone a little QUIET. on: July 25, 2018, 08:57:05 AM
I have an idea: Lift AntiCen's or his alts' Ban, then the Bitcoin Development and Technical Discussion board will be busy and lively as always. /s
It seems like users are now more active on reporting posts and moderators are now much more active in my observation (their response time to my reports).
And theymos might be planning to add a little incentive to active reporters.
Heroes and Legendaries are paying for a useless title "copper member" to pimp their profiles so, a badge will surely encourage most users to use that button.
Many reasons :

1) Bitcoin related searches and queries have went down. Most important reason.

2) Merit system also helped discourage spammers.
Thanks! If I didn't saw this post I wouldn't have noticed it.
5463  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Which field can blockchain technology be applied? on: July 25, 2018, 05:34:55 AM
The previously discussed new "Automated Election" system.
For example, every party can run their own nodes which can individually validate the election result, POW should be fairly distributed among all the "watchers" and concerned parties.
Interestingly, Ethereum Tokens can be used on Online Games' item ownership.
A player character can be issued with an ETH address and several rare items are tied to a token with a limited number.
However, trading them will require a transaction so it might take some time.
And it (Permissioned Blockchain) could serve as a distributed data storage of any small-sized documents.
5464  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: John Mcafee & Bitfi launch the first 'unhackable' hardware wallet on: July 25, 2018, 03:22:49 AM
wow this is interesting, Im going to keep an eye on this. I only have a ledger right now but am very interested in this "unhackable" wallet.
Did you even read the previous posts? Delete it from your "to buy" list.
It's basically a brainwallet which has a horrible history in terms of security and compared to ledger, Mcafee's endorsed "unhackable" wallet is a joke.
Not sure if you are trolling, but the address that links to "god" had about $100 of Bitcoin transferred through it less than 12 hours ago.  Cheesy
I've seen that too.
Actually, I have an Electrum Wallet named "Collision Tester" which contained the private keys of the most common brainwallet passphrases like Satoshi, free bitcoins, free bitcoin, etc.
But unluckily, I never got the chance to transfer the funds since it's impossible to monitor the wallet 24/7 manually.

Hey, thanks for your reply. Jut one quick question. Actually two. What do you mean when you say quality should be my main priority (something like that the power supply is stable?)? Can you refer good and reliable power supply brand? Maybe from your own experience. Thanks 🙏
Stability? maybe yes, but it's quite hard to tell unless you can get a free sample to test.
But the brand is the best criteria on how to find a good powersupply.

Personally, my not-for-mining rig which has a single comparable GPU and mostly operating 24/7 uses 450W Evga PSU.
Based on your build, this should be sufficient and cheap as well: EVGA 450 B1 except if you're not planning to upgrade in the future.
For a tight budget, that's a good pick.

But do not expect any profit from a single GPU rig, you can start mining JFF & experience.
You can use the rig for something else anyways.
5466  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Change Mobile Phones with Wallets on: July 24, 2018, 07:54:56 AM
would it be better for me to just transfer all coins to my account on an exchange or a desktop wallet, and that way all funds are off my phone?
Yes, that's fine, but do not send it to any exchange except if you're planning to buy another digital currency.
The current recommended transaction fee (based on Electrum's recommendation via mempool) is 10sat/b.
Sending them to another wallet/address isn't going to be expensive unless you have 100+ inputs.
5467  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Win update .... on: July 24, 2018, 07:35:27 AM
I did not turn off the update, I only changed the reg file to drag it allegedly from another server, which does not have an update. After that, I did not have a problem with the update  Cool Cool Cool
Chill, he's talking about m1n1ngP4d4w4n's post regarding GPO (Group Policy Object) which is a feature of Windows (Pro and above).

Why is it "that" hard for others to disable Windows update?
By disabling "Windows Update" in the "Services" then immediately restart the system (using the restart/shutdown button on the start menu, not hardware button), updates should be disabled.
Unless if there's an already downloaded and applied update which will complete itself during the restart process which could turn WinUpdates to "automatic" again.
5468  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Symbol of blockchain on: July 24, 2018, 05:55:32 AM

Super.
And are copyrights free?
That doesn't even related to blockchain technology, it should be more of a storage (boxes) or pages of a book.
Why locks?

Google must have misinterpreted blockchain from lock. Take a look at this: BLOCKCHAIN
And the image depicts a "chain of locks" which can also be called "lockchain".
See what I mean?
5469  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Delete wallet on Android on: July 24, 2018, 05:45:46 AM
For reference in case if someone wants to backup/transfer the wallet files manually,
the wallet files were stored inside the android phone's internal system data folder, not in the internal storage (root access is required)

Found this by using google search:
I just downloaded the electrum wallet on android. And since my smartphone is rooted then I tried to google also but never see an answer on it. So I tried to navigate it on my own and found it on
/data/data/org.electrum.electrum/files/data/wallets then there's "default_wallet" file there. So you need to have a jailbreak/rooted phone to navigate it.
5470  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin fair value is above $10,000 on: July 23, 2018, 11:03:15 AM
I'm so weak, fell for it and I've clicked the the link.

Anyways, the article focuses more on charts and the rumor about CoinBase's hidden actions. (no spoilers)
I've seen a lot of related rumors around here in the speculations board and there aren't much of a difference except of the enthralling format.

Probably this was just posted here to gain more traffic, but who am I to judge, there's nothing wrong with it.
5471  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: In order to improve mining and the max transaction rate of the network... on: July 23, 2018, 09:02:13 AM
Welp, shared ideas from a random member could be a gold mine.
Even the simplest simple-thoughts can be as great as well-processes ideas.

But frankly, most of these (OP) has already been discussed thoroughly.

2. Minimize the block time by keeping the mining difficulty as low as possible without jeopardizing network stability and consensus. This will also help decentralize mining.
This will also destroy the fixed supply property
but maybe, the Author wants to tell us that all of those four (list) to work together to patch the negative effects of implementing just one.
Combine #2 and #3 and there's a possible work around to increase the block time without destroying the fixed supply.
Combining all of them will pose a threat to the seemingly perfect decentralized setup we currently have.

Overall, it's a bad idea.
5472  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [WANTED] In browser mining script so my users can earn Crypto on: July 23, 2018, 04:39:21 AM
Based on your preferred features, you seemed to be against coinhive's terms and conditions.
Or you still haven't heard of coinhive's API?

I've seen some ETN pool websites that offers slightly the same features, but I can't remember the link.
There seems to be a performance issues with in-browser mining aside from slower output like the miner stays "Mining" even after hitting stop/pause button. Something simple enough to fix for a good web developer.

This wasn't much of a help but I hope this gave you an hint on where to search.
5473  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Symbol of blockchain on: July 22, 2018, 02:58:19 PM

LoL, definitely not this one.
That's the logo of blockchain.com

Did you just fetched those logos from google search?
If yes, do not use any of them because it may be protected by copyright law.
You don't want them to take down your blog site, don't you?

There's no official icon of the blockchain technology but it seems like there's someone here in this thread that've shared his personally made icon, if it's okay for him to use it, pick that to be safe.

5475  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 50K+ budget, Suggestions? on: July 22, 2018, 11:32:51 AM
Just stay away from GPU rigs for now, anything that's "on-sale" will be a-thing-of-the-past in a few years.
I'll suggest you to pick ASICS (SHA256^2/Bitcoin) and start mining Bitcoins in a reputable mining pool.
Do not invest in something that was made for any asic-resistant coins and new suspicious coins.

Then expand your hodlings by using those BTC to buy different Altcoins (Make a 20-30 different coins Portfolio).
The tribal step here is to time the "sell" at the right time, some altcoins can get a pump in a matter of months then a sudden dump in just a day.

Those 50k you have can become 500k, just buy eth and forget, check next year or 2020, it might become 2 million usd.
That's one reckless suggestion to someone who's willing to spend $50,000+ on mining rigs.
5476  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: CoinPot Website on: July 22, 2018, 05:51:23 AM

SCAM SCAM SCAM! They don't pay....stop say that is legit or try to withdraw big amount....
Is there any thing you can remember why Coinpot suspended your account? I am curious on what "Click for more Details" will display.
Because in my experience, every withdrawal attempts (even slightly huge raffle winnings) that I've made always gone smoothly straight to my wallet.

And wait, addresses that start with "2" are testnet addresses, right?

So far Coinpot isn't a scam site; but regarding their replies, the management/developers might be slightly over-implementing their security measure.
5477  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: A New Crowdfunding platform on: July 22, 2018, 04:27:48 AM
Why start your own crowdfund platform? Why not ask an existing crowdfund platform if they would be open for your idea on their platform

This sound much like a good idea until when you realize that the biggies can turn you down and still go ahead and integrate your idea into their own platform. This space is decentralized, it almost like a free for all.
A crowfunding that isn't an ICO must be 100% centralized and will require a quite high reputation to be successful.
Let's see how the OP's Team can manage to make a new type of decentralized crowdfunding platform without mimicking the (stocks') IPO.

Asking an existing "Kickstarter" platform is still the best idea that establishing a new one, unless you got a lot of resources for advertising.
5478  Economy / Speculation / Re: What is the main reason to bitcoin moving up!!! on: July 21, 2018, 02:16:37 PM
Demand is exceeding supply for BTC, and almost all countries are willing to use this side to technology and avail its benefits.
Demand is very high for BTC right now compared to the supply, Almost all the countries are adapting to it, so it's natural for the price to increase.
Did you think that your reply that have the same context but written in a different way can pass as a non-copy-pasted reply?
Just look at it, you've just jumbled the words to make it "original".

The latter must be a bot, and there's a chance that first one is a bot too.
Reported ScadgersBTC

@OP That's just history repeating itself.
Believe me, I've seen that last October-December 2017 and at the other "pump schedules" or "hype seasons" of cryptocurrency.
News are the major price booster here, and you're pretty accurate there.
What matters is if those news are correct or just a Whale/P&D media toolkit.
5479  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Win update .... on: July 21, 2018, 10:14:28 AM
The current file doesn't seem to be dangerous but, you can always change the link (not being suspicious here).
Sharing it using google drive isn't the smartest choice because of the usual hack attempts here in bitcointalk,
as you can see, people will always be suspicious on everything.

You should move it to a hosting site where users can review the code before downloading. (Do gitHub accepts .reg files?)
5480  Other / Meta / Re: is it ohk to award merit like this... on: July 21, 2018, 06:19:37 AM
Nope, that's pretty normal.

Ever since the merit system has started, most of our seniors have done something similar thread, but not in the off-topic board.
Most know members like TMAN, actmyname and Joel_Jantsen have their own "merit giveaway" thread and it doesn't seemed to be against the rules, although recently, mods have been moving merit giveaway-related threads to off-topic board since it is... yeah off-topic.
FYI, only merit sources are the ones who are being moderated, unless in some extreme cases.

As far as I know, there has been a couple of "rule breaking" giveaway threads that got busted by DT members, the authors got red-tagged but were not banned.
