Bitmain is unlikely to offer any chips I presume until their U3 is dicontinued.  I feel it died at launch due to batch orders instead of single units but thats due to shipping costs.
Hopefully we hear about some chips by xmas, that would make my day.

They seem to keep the U series alive though.  So most likely one day when U3 is discontinued a U4 will be released.

Now that they released a ant router that controls U3's I think they will eventually have a U4 that plugs into it.  But I still would rather have one from sidehack, so I hope  BM changes mind.
5522  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: October 14, 2015, 05:08:07 PM

Where are you getting that there might be compensation with coupons?  If they followed past and did decent coupons yes it could be a much better compensation then what I thought I read.

I thought I read it was like the amount it would have made on PPS till it ships.  And you don't get paid for time in shipment only till it ships.  I don't see where they left it open for coupons unless I missed a post from BM.

No, they have not "said" they will give coupons out.  Does this mean they will not give them out because they have not said it?  No.

For instance, I told my client 15% less on my service for delaying them a week.  They accepted...  I also gave them a 15% discount on the next week they scheduled from me after completing the first week.  I offered this "after" completing the first week.  I did not tell them this before the first week.

I've been given more compensation than what I was told originally by venders several times in my business dealings in the past.  I'm a contractor for land line telephone companies in the U.S.  I teach their technicians how to use their meter to identify and locate troubles.  I also consult with training departments to help them be more affective.  I've had business dealings with various vendors for my training boards I've designed and built.  Over 200 solder connections in each training board that simulates 19,700 feet of 24 gauge/ Air Core Cable [Not jelly filled].  Jelly filled is .092 uF per mile/.0174 uF per 1000 feet and Air Core is .083 uF per mile/.0157 uF per 1000 feet.  They've been late before and gave me more compensation than what was originally stated.

Will BITMAIN do this?  I don't know.  Only time will tell.  However, I'm NOT going to be rude while waiting on compensation.  Being rude may very well ensure hate and discontent of both parties and reduce the chance of a more profitable compensation.

I've learned through my business dealings, it's just not profitable to draw conclusions and "react" on those conclusions drawn without an actual "conclusion."

EDIT:  I'm about to take a shower and meet my wife downtown for lunch.  So, I will not be able to check back in for a while.

I'm not meaning to be rude if that is how it comes out.  I just am being realistic.   They were asked about compensation and they released a plan.

It is not what many wanted.  But it was 100 percent a business plan.  I feel it is being over optimistic to wait on coupons that I feel most likely are not coming.
5523  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How secure to put seed on phone ? on: October 14, 2015, 04:28:17 PM
I can tell you from now that 99% of the Algerian citizens don't know what Bitcoin is and 99.99% of them don't know the technical side of it which means that 1% only know how to send and receive using online wallets and that's it .
I own this phone for like five years now and I don't really need it or use it all all , I keep it at home and that's it so since you told me it can't get hacked remotely I guess I will use it .
and for what comes to the Paper wallet suggestion I already have one , I just like to store little bit everywhere to make sure no big damages in case something goes wrong .

I think you are not looking at big picture.  The world is connected now days.  It is not just that 1 percent you mentioned.

Your talking about global operations.  Someone from another country could find a hole in phone security launch it... and get your seed off phone and never visit Algeria.  Phones just do not offer the security I would want to store a seed.   It's not a good idea overall.
5524  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: Do I need a Faucet? on: October 14, 2015, 04:25:40 PM
Faucets are ideal for members who do not want to mine or which do not have the resources to mine.
You do not necessarily need faucets but they are good for starting with Bitcoin.
but the last people say faucet just waste my time ?? and it's true im still using freebitco.in

And it is. Do it for the fun or for the curiosity. But even after hours, you will end with just some cents. It probably won't pay the electricity costs of maintaining your computer powered on to do this.

There is no fun or anything to learn typing capatcha's and getting dust in a wallet.  They would be so much better of even buying 5 dollars of BTC if they are wanting to play around with just a little.

The faucet rate is crazy low, and a waste of time.  You could do a much better time learning a service or something else instead of using faucets.
5525  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where can I invest? on: October 14, 2015, 04:23:28 PM
I too had this question many times in mind when i started earning some bitcoins .. i would suggest you not to go to gambling right away ..

You must see for some good alt coins and invest on them and main key is patience. you must wait for a few days ..then only it wil be possible to make some profit.

I would not suggest for anyone at any point to consider gambling investing.  This thread is investing, gambling is just that a gamble.

Also like I like to say these gambling sites have no regulations.  They avoid being hosted in certain countries to avoid being shutdown.  Even if they are honest.   The best case is you lose most of time by only a little.

But the dodging and having no regulation part is what scares me most on gambling sites.  Do not consider this a investment.

Uh... a lot of BTC casinos are officially licensed. I'm not sure why you are trying to insinuate that none of them are. There are multiple that are subject to third-party checks as well (as part of their licensing).

And at the same time a lot of BTC casinos aren't licensed also. What ones can you tell me that comply all the required regulations? And they may comply certain regulations on X country, but not the ones you are playing at. It is all a very grey area, just like everything with Bitcoin since it's still so new.

BitStarz is one of them. And yeah, they're licensed in their own country, but how does that affect you? That's like saying "I won't go to Vegas because they're not licensed to operate in California."

Interesting that some of these are licensed.   I had not ran into this before, I think most are unregulated.  But if there are some that are licensed yes that makes them sound better (even though it still chances are is a loss long term).

How many of these have a legit government's license and have to follow regulations? Also what country are they operating under on license?

if accounts does get locked because of the secret question (still not sure if it's true), then it's kind of the user's fault if their account got locked for doing something that is clearly not recommended.

also I've been wondering... it says "you are banned from using this forum!" there on OP. does that means he really got "banned" for breaking forum rules or did he got "banned" only for security? I hope a mod can answer this.

At this point people should not use security word.  I think ever since hack a while back it has not been secure to consider secret question secure.   (Please correct me I could be wrong but I think time frame fits).

The best thing for people to do is treat password to forum like a paper wallet for a private key.  Store it safely, and don't need to reset password.  That would solve many peoples problems.  And it would take 5 - 10 minutes to do a nice paper wallet type and never have to reset again.

I agree name calling is not going to help, and might as well stay cool and level headed.   But Bitmain took a holiday during a batch before it was done.  Understandable they would want time with family over holiday, yes hard to fault the workers there.

But the compensation they have mentioned is pretty horid.  They waited and released it during a weekend, which I think was done so they did not have to hear be at work during first wave of angry customers.

What do you think they will learn from this?  i mean they learned they can do low compensation, and little communication.   I don't think it was a good learning experience.

I have no idea what was "weighed" in their mind when deciding shipment dates.  It's actually quite possible they did not take the time to do quality control checks the way they should have because of less employees due to low bitcoin price.  They may have "intended" to have a certain number of rigs manufactured and shipped before that holiday but ran into a series of unfortunate events.  Which ended up going all the way to the holiday.

In the future, I believe they will allow extra days for possible "unfortunate events" [That do not fall during a holiday].  As for "... they learned they can do low compensation," I have not seen the compensation yet.  So, I'm not going to comment on the compensation until it is delivered to those who deserve it.  This compensation may also include a $100 coupon for each rig that was ordered.  If one cannot use the coupon, they can sell it.

I realize everyone does not have the same situation.  Some have free power and I can see where the compensation would not be as attractive to them as it would be for others who may pay $0.10 kWH.  Those people would have to decide for themselves if they wish to continue business with BITMAIN in the future.  If they do wish to continue business in the future, it does not help them in the least to be rude.

I personally feel we should be allowed to get the rigs for the same price as batch 3.  Will the compensation with possible coupons be close to that?  Only time will tell.

5528  Economy / Services / Re: Antminer s5+ purchase on: October 14, 2015, 04:11:20 PM
He is wrong the going price for an S5 standard is 300$ with shipping included, that and the location they are in could definitely have moisture in the air and have damaged some of the hardware.

I understand that it looks horrible on the picture I took, but actually the miners are located in the attic, not in the cellar, so there is no excessive moisture there.

Depends where you sell it.  Ebay looks like 350 is doable but there is lots of fees.  On forum it is going to be more along the 300.

Only possible way he get's 500 is if he's in a country with huge vat/import tax (some are 25 precent which is crazy).  In these high vat areas I could see 400+ pretty easy.

Yes, he's in Ukraine where vat/import tax stands at 20 percent as far as I know. He says that he already checked local forums and knows for sure that he can easily sell s5 for 400+, but he's looking for $500. )

In my home country, ENGLAND, they are charging 20% vat on electronic goods. I don't think you have to pay VAT on resail as you already paid it on purchase!

This would be true as it was imported in country and paid the vat.  I think everyone is saying even with a 20 percent vat 500 is a pretty hard goal to get.  They could buy one and pay vat cheaper then that.

You do offer having it already in country which counts for something.  I think price will be ore around 400.  If you get offers of 500 take it and run.  You got a great deal if selling for that.
5529  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: What is now the pps pool with the best rate? on: October 14, 2015, 03:57:49 PM
If you're renting gear, then you can't very well point it right back at NH Smiley.  That leaves you with the other two I mentioned: f2pool and AntPool.

Antpool is cheaper on PPS rate.  But they keep the transmission fees for the devs or something like that.

F2Pool has a bigger fee to do PPS.  But with it you get transmission fees I believe.

So those are the big differences you would really have to do a study of which is best.  I will be honest I'm not sure i think it will be close.
5530  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Is it worth mining? on: October 14, 2015, 03:54:19 PM
Lol mining is worth it if you make a Bitcoin mining virus.
Highly profitable if you infect enough PCs.

Actually this would not be true.  Look at CPU/GPU mining it is very very small money.   You will not get rich off of CPU/GPU.  I know you meant it as a joke... but it would take a massive botnet to do this.  And you are looking at serious jail time (in most countries).

Chances are you will not even get enough for bail if you did this.  Let alone paying a lawyer for when you are caught.  Again horrible idea even as a joke.
5531  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: October 14, 2015, 03:51:46 PM

It may have been nice if we were given the option to get a faster delivery with the 4.6+ miner than wait for the 4.8+ as it looks like some of the batch 2 may get theirs before us in batch 1.

If you think about it, batch 2 IS batch 1.

I agree but batch 2 is @$250 cheaper. It will be hard to justify the higher price for batch 1 which has not shipped yet, even with the .027 compasation.

I understand your reasoning there.  I think I voiced something similar earlier in the thread.  I appreciate your calm attitude while voicing your opinion without name calling.  I think it's wise for all us to remain calm and patient to see what "compensation" is to come.  They might even throw coupons into the mix with the "compensation" for those who had late shipments and/or rigs below specifications.  I'm just going to be patient and allow them the opportunity to make good on their period of unfortunate events.

Could they have been better with communication?  Yes.  Will they learn from this?  Yes, I believe they will.  Only time and patience will tell.

Cheers M8

5532  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Is mining dead ? on: October 14, 2015, 03:44:24 PM
Mining will be profitable again when btc halve on 2016. I hope.  Wink
Cause i hope price will rise.

it's the opposite, there is more chances that mining will be even more dead iof the price of btc will not double at least

how the halvign can even help the miners is beyond me, the reward will be halved not doubled

We are seeing a slow build up on price right now.  It really depends on price of BTC.  If it goes up considerable yes happy days, all miners continue.

But if not most likely miners will be looking for lower powered machines.  I'm sure more and more efficient miners are to come.
5533  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: How good is 10TH/s? on: October 14, 2015, 03:42:13 PM
I would highly recommend you mine in a pool. Even though 10 TH/s is a pretty good hash rate, mining solo is risky and in the amount of time it would probably take you to generate 1 block with that speed, as well as the electricity bills and maintenance which will be required, you are better off mining in a pool (especially with the fact that block halving is coming soon which will make it even harder for you to generate a block).

Mining solo, you may get lucky and score big, but there are no guarantees, whereas if you mine in a pool you are not likely to make as much, but you have a much better chance of at least making a ROI (return on investment)

actually roi should be the same if you invest an amount that as the same value of a block, no matter if you mine in pool or solo, as long as the diff remain very falt

because if you earn, let's say 0.01 a day, it mean that you chance for a block would come after 0.01 x 2500 days

But those are silly and unrealistic if's The Difficulty is rising and will continue to do so, add to the the block halving next Year and for most people with recent hardware unless they have ROI'd before the halving they are unlikely to. If you go solo with 10TH yes you might find a Block Tomorrow or none in your lifetime. You must ensure you take advantage of the Months before the halving and the only way to guarantee that is Mining with a pool.

Rich

Difficulty makes a big difference over a miners life.   Granted it's not double digits every change like it once was.  But the difference of 2 or 5 each week is compounding, and makes a huge difference.

10TH is a pool miner amount.  You can do math and say in X number of day's it should have one, but chances of it happening are slim.
5534  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Antminer S5+ Only One Batch on: October 14, 2015, 03:38:45 PM
S5+ also appears to have been, in part, a prototype for the S7 design.

which it make sense, because as it is right now the s5+ as the same efficiency as its old brother, just more raw power

i would go for s7 any day over it, no point in something that has not the same efficiency, unless you have free bills...

It's actually a little more efficient then the regular S5.  Granted it's nothing like S7.  But there is still a little difference.

I really do like mine.    Has been a great machine.

S5+ also appears to have been, in part, a prototype for the S7 design.

It was this for sure.  And it is a very good design compared to normal S5.  I really like having a full case.

It also was a way to use a lot of chip's.  9 hashing modules of chips they could get rid of them quick.   It is a really good miner in my case I really have enjoyed it.
5536  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: low hashing s5 on: October 14, 2015, 06:59:19 AM
I would try the following guides from zendesk:

https://bitmain.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/204875015-How-to-diagnose-S5-hashing-PCB

Then

https://bitmain.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/203559969-My-S5-hashes-at-about-600GH-S

Can you post a status picture is it seeing both hashing modules on S5?  And what PSU are you using (model and watts)?
5537  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where to get highest free BTC? on: October 14, 2015, 05:58:48 AM
you can get a lot of bitcoins on cashclamber as they give 0.005 every half hour if you are good on playing small games as far as i can see

I guess I don't believe many faucets.  I suspect the worst out of people.  Are there any payment address that shows .005 given out every 30 minutes?

With suspecting the worst I just see how do you know your playing another person or if it's just programmed player.   Either a bot or company could make this hard to get that first prize.   I just would want to see payments to support any faucet claims.
5538  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: thinking about offering miner hosting , plz read -feedback/suggestions/interest on: October 14, 2015, 05:53:48 AM
I think it would be easier if you just calculated a fee structure and then let people decide whether your hosting offer is competitive.
The "trust based" approach is likely to cause disagreements about proper distribution of profits between you and your customers.

However, if you want to avoid running this as an actual business, your approach might work if you find people whose needs match your profile.
Good luck!

Onkel Paul

i could just offer hosting prices 60-65$ a kw ,but i figure offering it as a partnership would be better as the person would pay less for hosting but yet i would still make some btc for my time and work i put in

but i think ur right , if i just offered hosting at the prices i said above there would prolly be a ton of ppl that would gladly pay that price versus what some of the other places get

I think offering a set structure to will be best.  Sharing profit's sounds good but it just is pretty open and hard to do if your hosting a lot of different miners.  Each model would have a different split.  Just get's really really complicated.

It would take a lot of trust upfront.  People would want to see pictures of it making sure it's not a deathtrap for miners.
5539  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience BM1384 Project Development Discussion on: October 14, 2015, 05:48:58 AM
I had some issues with the second node's reset that took me until after lunch to figure out, but when it lit up I immediately did several pelvic thrusts and then ran into the office to excitedly request multiple high fives. Why wouldn't I want to share stuff that exciting with you guys?

I'd consider pushing this thing to 300MHz/66GH and see how much it beat the U3 by at its own hashrate, but the chips aren't heatsinked well enough. We'll have to wait until I have a better setup.

The highlighted is part of why I love your products, and I am a am a fan and buyer of them.   Look at lot of the companies to see what your  sharing they would want NDA and sue the crap out of you for releasing it.

I honestly am not a fan of NDA's.  But it is great how you share dev process with us.   I get to see awesome product development and see it along it's way to market, without signing my life away.

could be the reason bitmain doesn't want to sell anymore chips, "Cant show 'tem peeps how ya make stuff 'n' things!" and since its all 2nd hand stuff, cant NDA it!

but hey, here's some PDF's to show what the pin-out is, and how to talk to it and how to power it, but you cant show them hoe you make a miner with them!

I think their reason is based on dollars.  They have a hot new chip they know they can sell it in a miner in pretty big quantity.

I don't think they care unless you show up with a big stack of money.  Then they might find a way to share.  But I suspect until there is another miner out there BM will not even look at selling chips.  Even then they still might they are kinda hard to read.
