IANAL, but I don't get the problem here. Nefario is not dealing with any country's legally defined currency. How is GLBSE any different than FB games or MMORPGs? It seems to me he is just being hassled by schmucks that don't like games without fairies and epeens. I don't see them shutting down Eve or WoW for all the scams they have. Sure, he may be indicted, but he may also be acquitted, amirite?

At the risk of using a false dilemma I will caveat this argument with the treatment that time will generate one of two possible outcomes. Either mankind will thrive or suffer the evolutionary fate of every species and go extinct.
If you believe in logic and that there are tenable solutions for all problems that are equitable, then there is hope that civility will find the means to solve all problems. If you believe that there will always be problems that have no solutions, then you believe that incivility will always be a tenable solution. Given enough time, we will evolve into unintelligent creatures or reject evolutionary forces and learn to thrive without allowing natural forces to extinguish us.

They are not against self-ownership at all. The political ideology of collectivism to which Zeitgeisters subscribe does indeed deny self-ownership. Your ignorance of this fact is probably due to your lack of familiarity with the philosophical foundations of their ideology. To get to the root of that, go learn about this old guy: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immanuel_KantKant is the founder of the Zeitgeist movement? Interesting. Since the founder of the Zeitgeist movement is still alive that would make him 288 years old. Zeitgeist may share some ideas with Kant, but that is a strawman to say it is based on Kant.

What money isn't associated with a state of some sort?
Bitcoin happened with zero involvement from any State, and we practically proved that there can be a market without State involvement. However some parts of the State will be associated with something Bitcoin related one way or another, there is no way to avoid it completely. The State will want to control anything and everything useful to anyone. The causality is reverse. I'm not sure that the Internet itself (let alone Bitcoin) could exist without a State. Gold exists without a state, so there can be money. There will always be a State of sorts as long as we are civilized, but it is not necessary to use force to cause humans to act civilized.

I've noticed a rash of these Zeitgeist-Neo-Communist kiddies all over the net suddenly taking a stand against self-ownership.
It's like they suddenly realized the concept of self-ownership destroys their paradigm, so they are marching out to promulgate these retarded arguments against it onto forums and comments sections.
They are not against self-ownership at all. They just don't feel it is neccessary for themselves in a world where they can have whatever they need without the baggage of ownership, i.e. storage, moving, licensing, maintenance, insurance, taxes, etc.

Using "they" to denote a single person when you do not want their gender known, such as in an investigation, helps keep the identity of the person and even situation more objective. The one I hate is "significant other."

The network has grown and stabilized, but that is boring to most people. We're in a lull. Where's all that vaporware people said they were working on? Where's the announcements from the alleged venture capitalists? If nothing else, we can look forward to another scam or theft to cause some volatility.

I don't get the name argument. Bitcoin is an experimental currency. If the Bitcoin devs want to start a foundation based on the work they've done, they have that right. I don't know if this has been said, but I would like to see a Cryptocurrency Foundation that develops all aspects of p2p money.

Did you have your miner sending Bitcoin to a wallet with an offsite backup? If not, then it would really be a sad story.

Has anyone seen Ink? It's probably one of the most creative extremely low budget films I've seen. When you judge a low budget film, do you judge it from the context of "Well, it's good considering it has no budget" or do you judge it from the context of "Well, it moves me emotionally or makes me think hard or just plain wows me in one way or another."? By the way, Ink is getting three and a half (out of five) stars at MUBI, and they're a pretty tough crowd. For a digicam no budget movie it had the most creative direction, camera work, and editing I'd seen at any budget. Films like that almost make me want to get back into video... almost. To me, great filmmaking is understood when it's seen. Indeed.

Jeez guys, you wanna start your own no-girls-invited Bitcoin club? Just grab a thesaurus and squat a domain. This is way overblown.
