I think someone should track astana down and rob him and robin hood that shit.
If you feel like flying to somewhere in Australia, you probably could.
5523  Other / Meta / Re: Diablo labels thread in off-topic "inappropriate" for the forum - high five! on: January 13, 2012, 06:21:53 PM
What section was the thread in originally?  I couldn't find a redirect topic in Mining or Pools.
I think its always been there, and the response has since been deleted.

Where is this complaint posted? Some legal filing?

Like I said - pie-in-the-sky - but what made me think about it seriously was this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/260836521449 only $650.
I estimated $2000 for the SHB host card because it wouldn't need to be the top-end model with all the latest stuff.

people should be wary then, and other developers should double check his work in bitcoin if they already havent.
You cant have people with very suspect morals, writing code that deals with money. Anywhere else dealing with anything like bitcoin, he would have had to go through a background check and send his fingerprints to the fed. Most likely he would have failed said background check during the psychological profile.

dude what
If the code is verified and read through by other competent devleopers, it doesn't matter who wrote it initially. For all we know Satoshi himself could be some evil guy, but because the code is open source, it was verified many times over by other developers to be safe and working.

You already started on the backplane project ? Did you buy a backplane already ?
No, I don't have enough capital. But I am still trying to crunch all the numbers and see whether it could be done. Pie-in-the-sky dreaming I guess.
5528  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Enough Power? on: January 13, 2012, 03:11:38 PM
Wow, you're going to have to use radiator surface the size of a football field Smiley
Going with so many pumps, water blocks, all that watercooling stuff... I'm afraid even 20k$ might be a low estimate.
Well my estimates were based on $650 6990s, $110 waterblocks, a $2000 host computing board, a $650 backplane, and six PSUs hopefully being less than $500 each. The unfortunate issue is that the manufacturers of the waterblocks don't publish technical specs such as flow rate at a certain pressure, recommended pressures, etc. so my numbers might be bad estimates.

However, from my calulations, this radiator should be able to dissipate all the heat from 18x 6990s when used between 0 and 1 Bar of pressure, because it is rated at 10 horsepower heat dissipation at that pressure. Yeah I know it is an oil cooler, but there shouldn't be any reason for it not to work with glycol or similar. The heat dissipation table is on the catalog page at this link.

Funnily enough I investigated these platforms with backplanes but nobody tried it and I don't wanna be the first either Grin

In theory it should make a hell of a mining farm !
My hang-up is the watercooling - it would be a very complex endeavor. How to properly size the pumps, radiators, manifolds, etc, and do it in such a way as to fit in a standard datacenter rack. Air cooling would be all but impossible if I wanted to fill all the slots. I estimate costs per unit to be just under $20,000 and use approximately 35-40 amps of power continuously at 240 VAC. So it would be rather expensive to start with, and could take a while to return any sort of investment.

Nvidia Geforce 9400

Its a CUDA based GPU from what I understand, and in GUI Miner it stalls on Connecting when I try to use it.
More inefficient hardware. Basically, you are shortening the life of your components by trying this - you need hardware that can run at significantly higher efficiency in order for it to be worthwhile.
If your hardware is more efficient, it can be run cooler, or even underclocked to extend its useable lifespan, while still providing a decent return.

ATI/AMD hardware is several times more efficient than Nvidia for Bitcoin mining. Be sure to check out the Mining Hardware Comparison on the Bitcoin Wiki.
5531  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [1233 GH/s] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); Pool back in action! on: January 13, 2012, 02:28:39 PM
If you're not going to use them, turn the mining off and leave more for those of us that will use them Smiley

SECONDED IN THE UTMOST ALLOWABLE MANNER

/thanks
It appears that neither of you understand how merged mining works.
Each valid Bitcoin share has the potential to also be a valid Namecoin share, and only needs to be compared against the Namecoin chain - there is no extra mining or such going on.

Although, if he deletes his Namecoin address, his reward will be split among the rest of the users, so that could work I suppose Grin

Although most of us do not agree with many of Luke's positions and actions, it is obvious from inspecting his code that he is a capable coder. If you wish to boycott anything that he has touched, then you can stop using Bitcoin - he has committed several fixes/improvements etc to it.

80 PLUS TITANUIM certification has been released for 220V.
It mandates that the PSU does not waste more than 4% power at 50% load. That's 96% efficiency.
Whoever is able to get their design certified, will have to have cast insane amounts of magic putting that PSU together Smiley
Link: http://www.plugloadsolutions.com/80PlusPowerSupplies.aspx
Wow, such PSUs might be perfect for my 18x 7990 rig, if anyone decides to make them. 18x? Yep - with watercooling, VT-d, and a few virtual machines, it *should* be possible. Take a look at this: http://www.chassis-plans.com/single-board-computer/S6806-backplane.htm

240V is easier to make an efficient PSU out of, but 96% is totally awesome.

Anyone wanna invest? Grin

Sorry friends, but there is nothing to "give-in" about here. What astana did was wrong, and criminal. Shakuru should not suffer one penny worth of loss on any level for this. There is no ethical or legal reason to send the scammer anything, all you do is reload his credit card so he can try it again in some other arena.
As soon as he decides to keep it though, other trolls will jump in and insist that Shakaru is now the scammer. It's kind of a catch-22, and it is a shame that Shakaru has to be in the middle of it.

Hello all. I have been looking at bitcoining for quite a while, and have been using the BitcoinPlus website. However, I finallly decided to get the GUI Miner and mine on my Windows Side of my Mac Mini Late 2009 model.

I currently have the fan reved to 3890 RPM, almost 2x Faster then its original speed, 1500RPM.
I also know that the whole point of the Mac Mini, is to disipate the heat.

My question, is I am planning on running the GUI Miner, for CPU Only *Haven't gotten my GPU to work yet*, while Im at school, so roughly 8 hours. Will I have any problem with my machine as I do this? I've left the Miner on for a couple minutes and its already reporting 161 Degrees F.

Thanks in advance.
CPU mining might get you a few bitcents per week, it really isn't worth it. It will cost you more in electricity then you will get back.
5536  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is stopping Gov't from starting their own blockchain... on: January 13, 2012, 01:52:11 PM
Why? They wouldn't need all that mining overhead mumbo jumbo, they could just keep one central transactions database.
I think this is the premise behind various bitcoin-based DRM schemes that have been proposed, actually.

Check out this post in the popular eCommerce blog "practical eCommerce". I posted a comment explaining that Bitcoin has super low rates and no chargebacks (comment is pending moderation), with links to WeUseCoins, BitPay, and Stack Exchange.

Keep us abreast. Let us know when your comment has passes muster.

Looks like it has. Too bad the links aren't clickable.

Why do I feel you are being purposely vague? You are 'happy' but are also holding out on us.
Something about "not feeding the trolls" probably.

woohooo...now I can finally get my *precious* namecoins..

I sold all my 36 namecoins for 0.02000000 btc at bitparking and on top of their charge of 0.4 per cent, if I want to withdraw they charge 0.01000000 so in fact I will have 0.01000000 btc all in all sent to my bitcoin client. I'm sorry, but -wtf-.

It really isn't worth the bother anymore.
http://btc-e.com is a little bit better, but its still meh.
