I got out of BTC ages ago in 2013, but still have a couple Casascius coins left. My plan is to dump the first one at $100,000, and the second one at $1,000,000, and then my Coinbase balance at $10,000,000. A man can dream, right? I never thought the price would go over $25, and yet here we are. 

I've got one too, but why do you want it? I assume me wiping the tokens off of it won't be an issue for whatever you are doing?

Also, another question in relation to this being a physical item: Can I pass off the value of the BTC1 on each coin for capital gains and then count the remainder of the coin's profit as non taxed hobby income? It seems that the value of the BTC itself is the main issue here, and if there were no BTC involved it would be a much simpler person-to-person transaction of occasional nature that would not normally be taxed.

Example: I bought the coins loaded with BTC1 each back in 2012. The value of BTC1 at that point was about $3.50. Now, if I sell the coin for any amount higher than the market value of ~$3k, could I count the amount over ~$3k as non-taxed hobby income since this isn't any sort of regular business? That would separate out the value of the BTC from the value of the coin itself.

Thanks for the info. Since it's a physical item, this makes me wonder if such a tax applies to the random shit that I occasionally sell on craiglist/ebay, or are these coins being treated specially "because bitcoin"?

I sent it off and will hope for the best. Since their population report shows that they have graded 365 of these coins, I'll consider that proof enough that there should be no issue, I just have to trust that the post office doesn't fuck up.

EDIT: When they first started grading them, they were worth about $10 USD and they probably never figured out that the price went up since then. Also when I emailed them, they said it was only to cover the value of the metal, but even then $100 is kind of high for a brass token.

Thanks for the info. The holo side super nice, the plastic part is totally unblemished although the remaining brass area is similar to the front, i.e. slightly spotty or dull. When I got these things, I paid like BTC3.47 for both with shipping from Mike, in June of 2012. At that time, the MtGox BTC-USD daily closing price was around $6.50 so I kind of tossed them around and left them in a drawer for a while with no special attention.

Guys, I want to submit a couple of 2011 Casascius coins to ANACS for grading, but filling out their form is proving to be a challenge. If I understand this correctly, they will use whatever I write in the "Variety" field without modification as the title on the coin case? If so, what is the correct thing to write there? Should I use the "variety attribution verification and errors" service to make sure that is done correctly, or is it not necessary?

It also says max value $100 - does that mean I am not allowed to put in a value that exceeds $100 in the "Owners Value" field? How is return shipping insured? I don't have a FedEx/UPS account.

These rounds are loaded, but have visible discoloration from the brass tarnishing. Will they still be grade-able or should I not even send them in because of that?
Any suggestions are welcome. This is the first time I've tried doing such a thing as grading coins - total n00b here. Are there any other services that will grade bitcoins? Preferably any with a nice online webform and submission process?

Would you care to support your point with the uptime statistics of your non-linux servers supporting your customers? Oh right - Microsoft can't be arsed to create a server OS whose updates don't require a reboot. Note: I am intentionally ignoring BSD, Solaris, etc since he likely has never heard of them.

I feel your pain, I also administer a couple Windows servers that have to be rebooted monthly for patches, but they are in a lesser capacity that can stand some downtime.

The Linux kernel is nothing short of a work of art, in my own personal opinion. If our site has downtime, it is solely the fault of ourselves (for deploying code with bugs) or our hardware (for failing catastrophically). The Kernel can even survive a total failure of certain hardware parts such as processor and RAM, when in a hardware mirrored configuration. As far as I know, Windows doing so without at least a BSOD to show for it is unheard of.

And furthermore, even Microsoft knows the superiority of Linux and its associated components in a high-availability server environment - they use it themselves! It's a very poor practice to completely absolve oneself of one OS or another, or programming language, or anything else - each has its strengths and weaknesses.

Now I will stop feeding the troll, since I have had my say. Can anyone say "forum sliding tactics"?
