What if,... you're just watching someone on a Casino that suddenly keeps winning for a streak then after that he notice you and gave some money as a tip for his luck. Would you use the money he gave you to try your luck on that game (or any game you like) ? Or just keep the money for yourself for a good cause?

So tell me, what's gonna be...

Obviously, you are in a casino, so definitely I will take the risk and play and hope that I can win.

I have encountered this countless times, someone relatively unknown, give me some money, then I play it, and I would say that the result is 50/50. Sometimes I got lucky and win, and then there are times that I lost relatively quick.
5522  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: December 19, 2019, 04:51:40 AM
I was thinking about the fights we will have this weekend, and Frankie Edgar vs Chan Sung Jung, should be a good one, i think Frankie Edgar will win this one. He deserves this win because with his bad streak he haven't done well this year at all. So, he needs to clear his name and reputation. This fight is a good chance for it.

I'm not sure about that, for me Edgar is already way past his prime. UFC fighters did level up, competitions are very different when he was campaigning before so I wouldn't be surprised if he lost to Jung and his losing streak continues. He doesn't had to clear his name and reputation though, no had done enough throughout his career.

@eaLiTy - not watching Conor vs Floyd II.  Grin

5524  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Kraken sued by ex-employee on: December 19, 2019, 03:39:15 AM
There's no end to the crap an embittered ex employee will pull and they'll be fully conscious of the effect stories like this will have on anything crypto related.

Kraken’s CFO certainly comes off as a shady character. My curiosity has been piqued. The bit about him using the plaintiff's home address for legal and regulatory filings is bizarre. We can't know whether the whistle blowing stuff is true, but Runyon's lawyer can attest to that one.

That's certainly a bit off isn't it? Using employees address? If I'm Runyon then definitely there's some red flag in it already.

The CFO might thought that Runyon will just play all along. Lot's of shady practice was exposed here and perhaps many exchanges are doing the same as well but no one came forward because they either afraid or they are being paid handsomely to somewhat keep quiet.

I guess this case could drag for months before we can finally see who is telling the truth.
5525  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2020 NBA Season on: December 19, 2019, 03:06:45 AM
Lakers and Bucks will going to  start the winning streak again trying to make history for most win.
Yes they have to because their winning streak was stop, Lakers could have a better chance if Davis was able to play, Lebron just can't carry the team alone even against the Pacers. Anyway, they just focus now on maintaining their good record, winning 10 times then loss 1 game is already outstanding.

Pacers won, 105-102, coincidence that the longest winning streak on the NBA was broken just a day apart? Lebron James almost got a triple double with 20 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists.

And now Bucks and Lakers are going to start their winning streak again by facing each other.

The Bucks ended their winning streak yesterday against a Luka-less Mavericks and a day after that, Lakers also ended their winning streak against the Pacers. I don't think that there is a coincidence with it. Maybe they are just destined to lose right now for some reasons Cheesy.

With the match of the Bucks and Lakers, I will still go with the Bucks even though their win streak is over already. What happened to them against the Mavericks is just a choke I think Cheesy.

Lol, I'm just messing you guys with the "coincidence theory".   Grin. Ball is round, everything can happened, so upset is really there for the taking and boy Dallas Mavericks looks it easy to beat the unstoppable Giannis led Bucks.

However, I wouldn't agree that Milwaukee choke against Dallas. Mavericks did play very well and when Bucks are getting closer, they hold on tight, play good defense up until in the last seconds because Giannis was pushing hard or the Bucks are trying to go for overtime.
5526  Economy / Speculation / Re: Two Years Ago, Bitcoin Was Over $19,000 — What Happened? on: December 19, 2019, 02:49:01 AM
It was just a cycle, first bull run, majority of us are not here yet. However, after that everyone wants to jump on the bandwagon so there's a lot of first during 2017.

(1) Japan entered the picture, pushing the price even further
(2) CME and CBoE bitcoin future contracts in December

Those two are really the factors that really push everything in 2017, even it has positive effect on the ICO, airdrops, bounties are profitable. People are making tons of money, so it was really a price discovery process for everyone. Crypto enthusiast are elated and everyone thinks that this is good, but some knows that it won't be sustainable. So they started selling at the peaked and then panic, noobs was trap, but still they didn't know the market well, so they also cash out with a loss. So it's going to be cyclical at less everyone is ready now for the next bull cycle.

5527  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Is KuCoin better than HitBTC for trading altcoins? on: December 18, 2019, 06:34:04 AM
Obviously, based on the experienced of users here, Kucoin is much better. Used both of them in the past, 2017 to early 2018 for HitBTC and early 2018 onwards for Kucoin. I quit HitBTC before I myself would have a headache dealing with them so it's a good move.

So I would say that I have a better experience using Kucoin, although I seldom trade, I still login to my account just to keep it active. HitBTC? I totally forget about them.

@vella85 - so it's really a trap as Pacers won.
5530  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The Strange Network Activity behind Litecoin Active Addresses. on: December 18, 2019, 03:03:20 AM
Could be a simple form of FUD spreading, looking at price maybe its working?
could also just be a simple stress test, people testing scripts, or just someone pissing around for something to do.    Testing attack vectors maybe
with LTC its really cheap to do this, so they can.    IMO, if its a FUD thing, its most intriguing, create drama to cause loss of confidence, and drop price? buy up cheap?
interesting!

Haha, nice theory, who wouldn't love to see the price goes down so that we can buy  cheap LTC because of this bad actors? The FUD is still not out there though, they need to garner some media attention to it.  Grin

After LTC's halving, everyone thinks that the price could go on a run. Take note that it's just a run and not the bullish run that we think of. But the opposite happen, the price seems to go on a downward spiral.

However, it this is a strategy to pull down the price by attacking it, then it doesn't make sense to me. Why would that single entity attack it when there are other ways to hurt the price? But I like your theory of stress testing though, maybe that someone is within inside Litecoin and what better ways to attack the network by spamming it. Interesting enough, but we don't have the real answers.

Yes, we don't have answers for now or we may never will. Again, perhaps this is just a way to stress test the network or not. LTC's halving didn't push the price either, so there's a lot of conspiracy behind.
5531  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: You selling to buy Xmas gifts or using bitcoins to buy Xmas gifts? on: December 18, 2019, 02:42:41 AM
On the contrary, it's better to stash more in this holiday isn't it? The price is too damn low, forget the Xmas gifts, it will come and go, you need to look at the bright side of it.

In my case I have prepared at least 50% of my gifts to family members and extended families. So my bitcoin is safe at the moment and there's no way to sell it today. I bought it way below the current price, so it's easy profit for me, but I'm not going to do it.

The Strange Network Activity behind Litecoin Active Addresses.
Franklyn Richards

There’s an interesting pattern emerging amongst active Litecoin addresses on the network that suggests large periodic automated actions are being taken by an unknown entity.

On average the network typically sees around 40,000 active addresses per day, however according to data from bitinfocharts, every 7 days this value is spiking to over 70,000 before abruptly dropping back down. This has resulted in an almost sawtooth like pattern that’s pretty evident given a cursory glance.

This behaviour appears to have begun on the 20th of August 2019 and has continued to occur every week since to varying strengths. Prior to this a very noticeable dust attack occurred on the 10th of August 2019. Unless a large economic network entity has implemented a method for automatically managing and moving its Litecoin holdings (something that would seem unnecessary to this degree and so often), then it appears this activity may be related to the august 10th attack.

https://litecoin.com/en/news/the-strange-network-activity-behind-litecoin-active-addresses

Can someone chime in and enlighten us what the hell is going on with Litecoin? Is someone trying to screw up the network here?

We have seen bitcoin being attacked by network spammer in 2017 and we don't know what the economics behind. But in Litecoin, the investigations show it on a weekly pattern, so I'm not sure what this is for.
5533  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Cryptocurrencies: A (Crazy) Decade in Review on: December 17, 2019, 02:44:58 AM
As per article:

January, 2017 — Peoples Bank of China begins major crackdown on crypto exchanges

The PBOC took a strong stance on cryptocurrency exchanges in early 2017, beginning with a meeting with representatives of the major Bitcoin exchanges in China (BTCC, OKCoin and Huobi) to urge them to focus on compliance with regulations related to exchanges. This lead to a decrease in trading volume in China, and eventually the major Chinese exchanges halted withdawals and shut down fiat trading. A lot of trading volume was coming from Asia, so this painted a grim picture for the future growth and adoption of cryptocurrencies.

As far as I can remember, there are no Chinese related at that time. PBOC grew concerns about the so-called bitcoin exchanges, offering "no trading fee", and they realized that something is not right from behind and there could be manipulation or even fake volumes.

And that's how this whole crackdown started. The PBOC even called them just a "website" and not exchange, and so the rest is history.

Anyways, good list and I'm sure we look forward for more insights in the next ten years.

We will see now the Mavericks playing without luka in the whole game against the streaking bucks.
Las time against the heat, they rally in the 2nd half to make it a close game, can they do the same with the Bucks here or even stop the streak.
IMO, i think they will struggle as they lost a PG and their main scorer so buck here could probably dominate the Mavericks.

I'm thinking you are right.  Think the bucks are only favored by 10, I can see this game get out of hand early and see the bucks leading by 10-15 by halftime alone.  They are the real deal, excited to see the bucks lakers game soon.  Bucks -10 should be a decent bet.  Can see a 125-100 type of game here.

For me +10 will be a decent bet for the Bucks and they can easily cover that. They are averaging +13 this season and steam rolling opponents with or without Giannis.

And with Luka out, the spread of +10 - +13.5 is very attractive.

They're criminals, so I'm not surprised that they are going to used every avenue to cash out what they have stolen. The thing is that if they used DEX then it's going to be difficult to follow their tracks because everyone knows how DEX works.

Probably EOS for these criminals are just a testing ground as how they are going to manuever and hide their trail.
5537  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: In 2019, Students Demanded Blockchain Education. In 2020, It’s Coming on: December 16, 2019, 03:06:07 AM
I would not be surprised if some countries join in the train of offering blockchain courses or degree because whether you like it or not, the blockchain technology is a great tool with so much benefits to help curb the escalating rate of bribery and corruption. Blockchain technology needs to be exploied to the latter. In the meantime some industries i heard some universities across the globe do offer online blockchain courses as well.

already happening but i guess more universities will integrate blockchain tech this coming year. blockchain tech is indeed a great tool to address many issues such as transparency in operations and its corresponding cost.
young generation would be the new crypto users very soon. more adoption means better crypto valuation in the market.

Yes, I think many schools have been offering blockchain courses already, so I wouldn't be surprised that in 2020 we might see a boom.

Demand is already there, it's that the market is short of experts right now. But with proper education in the next year demand can be filled and adoption will follow.

How many confirmations are equivalent* to 6 Bitcoin confirmations?

You will be surprised,  Smiley

https://howmanyconfs.com

How are these values calculated?

Quote
It's easy to compare blockchain hashrates when the Proof-of-Work algorithm is the same. For example if Bitcoin has a hashrate of SHA-256 @ 40 PH/s and Bitcoin Cash has a hashrate of SHA-256 @ 2 PH/s, it's easy to see that for a given period of time the Bitcoin blockchain will have 20x (40/2) the amount of work securing it than the Bitcoin Cash blockchain. Or to say that differently, you need to wait for 20x more Bitcoin Cash confirmations before an equivalent amount of work has been done compared to the Bitcoin blockchain. So 6 Bitcoin confirmations would be roughly equivalent to 120 Bitcoin Cash confirmations in the amount of work done.

However if the Proof-of-Work algorithms are different, how can we compare the hashrate? If we're comparing Bitcoin (SHA-256 @ 40 PH/s) against Litecoin (Scrypt @ 300 TH/s), the hashes aren't equal, one round of SHA-256 is not equivalent to one round of Scrypt.

What we really want to know is how much energy is being consumed to provide the current hash rate. Literal energy, as in joules or kilowatt hours. It would be great if we had a universal metric across blockchains like kWh/s to measure immutability.

However that's fairly hard to calculate, we need to know the average power consumption of the average device used to mine. For GPU/CPU mined Proof-of-Work algorithms this varies greatly. For ASIC mined Proof-of-Work algorithms it varies less, however it's likely that ASIC manufacturers are mining with next generation hardware long before the public is made aware of them, which we can't account for.

There's no automated way to get this data and no reliable data source to scrape it from. We'd need to manually research all mining hardware and collate the data ourself. And as soon as newer mining hardware comes out our results will be outdated.

Is there a simpler way to get an estimated amount of work per blockchain in a single metric we can use for comparisons?

Yeah, there is, we can use NiceHash prices to estimate the cost in $ to secure a blockchain for a given timeframe. This is directly comparable across blockchains and should be directly proportionate to kWh/s, because after all, the energy needs to be paid for in $.

How can we estimate this?

Get the blockchains Proof-of-Work algorithm
Lookup the average price per hash on NiceHash for this algorithm
Multiply price per hash by total hashrate per second
Now we have an estimated total Proof-of-Work metric measured in dollars per second ($/s).

The $/s metric may not be that accurate. Miners will mark up the cost when reselling on NiceHash and we're making the assumption that NiceHash supply is infinite. You can't actually rent 100% of Bitcoin's hashpower from NiceHash, there isn't enough supply.

However that's not really an issue for this metric, we aren't trying to calculate the theoretical cost to rent an additional 100% of the hashrate, we're trying to get a figure that allows us to compare the cost of the current total hashrate accross blockchains. Even if the exact $ value we end up with is not that accurate, it should still be proportionate to kWh/s. This means it's still an accurate metric to compare the difference in work done over a given amount of time between blockchains.

So how do we compare these values between blockchains?

Once we've done the above calculations and got a $/s cost for each blockchain, we just need to factor in the average block time and calculate the total $ cost for a given number of confirmations. Then see how much time is required on the other blockchain at it's $/s value to equal the total cost.

So to calculate how many Litecoin confirmations are equivalent to 6 Bitcoin confirmations we would do:

Bitcoin (SHA-256 @ 40 PH/s) or ($100/s)
Litecoin (Scrypt @ 300 TH/s) or ($10/s)
Bitcoin's average block time is 10 minutes (600 seconds)
6 Bitcoin confirmations on average is 60 minutes (3,600 seconds)
Bitcoin's total $ cost for 6 confirmations is ($100 * 3,600 seconds) $360,000
At Litecoin's hashrate of $10/s it would take ($360,000 / $10) 36,000 seconds (10 hours) to complete an equivalent amount of work
Litecoin's average block time is 2.5 minutes (150 seconds)
The amount of Litecoin blocks expected over this period of time is (36,000 seconds / 150 seconds) 240 blocks.
Therefore we can say that 240 Litecoin confirmations are roughly equal to 6 Bitcoin confirmations in total amount of work done.

lol Just DNA will be enough to see compelling evidence of fraud here. If proven he faked his death, how are they going to find Cotten in India?
Curious about this investigation. If indeed he did an exit scam, he may not be there anymore if he is alive. Probably in Thailand where he can easily ask for cosmetic surgery.  With $180M he can shapeshift so anything.

Well that's one speculation of Cotten, that he is still alive and living somewhere else.

And this whole exhumation process will finally settle everything about his death. But as far as the missing funds? It can't be recovered unless he goes to a procedure like this Meet the Tiny Bitcoin Wallet that Lives Under Your Skin.

People are creating topic like this every week. The simple truth why there are so many hype around bitcoin - it was first. A lot of people think that this is the only one true crypto currency. This is not about tech, this is about status

And it's about where you can make a lot of money, and that is bitcoin. And it has alot of enigma behind it, Satoshi and some drama behind it.

Yes, Digibyte or any other altcoins there are far better that bitcoin, speed wise, security and scalability. However, most of altcoins are simply being used for pump and dump scheme.
