This does not change the fact that in the current capitalism system, money rules. And as you say, anarchists are against rulers.

See, there's the problem, money doesn't literally rule. Basing political ideologies off of idioms is not a useful practice. It's like trying to stop someone from wearing a loud shirt by invoking noise abatement laws.

Perfect counter-argument: your loss.  And then you'd drive away in your Ferrari.

It works better in person.

And with a Ferrari

1)See potential purchase
2)Buy bitcoins for purchase
3)Wait 5 minutes
4)Purchase purchase
5)Profit.

It's not about discussing bitcoin. It's not even about putting down bitcoin. It's about talking smack and ratings. TV news has turned into the WWF.
5566  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Butterflylabs Huge SCAM on: April 01, 2013, 07:10:44 PM
Agreed @ BFL being a scam.

If you guys paid with your CCs, I would suggest requesting a chargeback within 120 days of your transaction, otherwise you'll be out of luck (assuming it is a scam).

Visa/MC have 120 day limits on chargebacks.
Willing to put some money down on BFL being a scam?

By some definitions, some might say they have already proven to be so.

Wait, this is the mtgox tracker thread, right? I'm all ready for $100 but have we switched over to bitcoinity now?

Well, Bitcoinity follows Mtgox...

Fair enough Smiley

Woot.

If you copy the qr code, it goes into the clipboard as the plaintext string. You can then do what you wish with it.

If you have the ZXing barcode scanner, you can paste the text in there and it will turn it into a qr code which can be shared. I have the brother printer app so I printed it out but you could also do all the other standard sharing things (just don't share to Facebook).

Perhaps Jan could add sharing directly in a future release.

I think it helps to not think of the worker as beholden to the big, evil, fat-cat factory owner, dependent on the largesse of said owner to provide rags and gruel for his family and rather as a free agent, entering a voluntary contract to exchange labor for payment at a mutually agreed rate.

Of course, if the voluntary contract is not there, there is an issue. If the worker is unable to acquire capital, be it money, land or factory of their own through overriding restrictions, be it serfdom, legislation, taxation or whatever, that is an issue. But that is typically an issue with the political system in place, not with capitalism in and of itself.

I think the issue here is that there are terms which have a prima facie meaning, "anarchism" and "capitalism" and Rampion is attempting, to attach additional prejudicial, and in the case of "capitalism", pejorative meanings based on the writings of people with an agenda.

Now, personally, I'm not a fan of the word "capitalism" in any case but this distortion of the meaning of words by the left grows tiresome.

Does anyone else enjoy the eerie quiet?

It is Easter, so a little quiet is to be expected.

Thanks for the reminder, I always forget when the Goy holidays are.

The Christians just borrowed it.

True. But there is a saying about being in a hole...

I'm not quite sure why big miners would be in a pool anyway. I understand it smooths out variance but if I was at the level where I was mining a block about every month or so, I'd probably solo. As it is, I'm such a small miner that there's a good chance I'd *never* mine a block so it makes more sense to throw in with others.

I figured that was per share of the eventually mined block. I guess there's room for both types but it seems odd for me for the pool organizer to be taking all the risk. I was on the Slush thread and I see their pot got emptied soon so it seems like this is not an uncommon problem.

i believe around the 18th or 19th at one point it was "only" about -250

I don't understand why payouts aren't made from profits and thus no deficit should ensue.
5576  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I changed operating system from windows to linux and I lost my original wallet on: March 30, 2013, 04:50:32 AM
Stop using the hd.
Install a fresh copy of win or linux on pc.
Hook up old hd.
Run recovery file software on old hd.
Pray.

Definitely agree with step #1 above.
It's possible you might be able to recover your key(s) by just searching the block device (/dev/sda probably though it will be something else if you mount it on a different machine). Unfortunately, there is no easily recognizable header on the wallet.dat file which complicates things. There are some recognizable strings you might be able to search on.

If you have actually written over the piece of disk the wallet was on, you're about out of luck. Though you could get lucky and run across a piece of the Windows swap file that contains the key or an old copy that was marked as deleted.

How many bitcoins are you talking?
5577  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I changed operating system from windows to linux and I lost my original wallet on: March 30, 2013, 04:32:53 AM
Why would one ever install one OS over another without taking a full backup of the user dir (at the least) first? Let alone the wallet.dat should be backed up anyway.
5578  Economy / Speculation / Re: i'm torn. what would you do? on: March 29, 2013, 11:25:55 PM
personally, I just sold my computer to buy more btc, and will be watching the market from now on via my phone.

If You Do That, Make Sure To Get Your Wallet.Dat Off First. Smiley
5579  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Libertarian my ass! on: March 29, 2013, 09:07:38 PM
Nearly every action in my waking life is regulated in some way backed by the threat of violence. 70% or more of my job is related to supporting regulations enforced, again, by threats of violent action for noncompliance.

Please provide one concrete example, and explain how it does not exist in anarchy.

Well, I think we know that first we'd have to get you to agree that fines backed by threat of imprisonment is violence for many of them. However, consider something like Sarbanes Oxley where penalties include imprisonment (sorry, that's not violence in your book either, I'm sure) for certain types of transgression.

Statism Anarchy *is* violence.

Fixed that for you.

In that whole "War is peace" kinda way.
5580  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy 1 Bitcoin or Not Buy 1 Bitcoin, thoughts? on: March 29, 2013, 08:59:37 PM
Go ahead and buy the bitcoin. It will focus you on studying more about what it's all about. If you decide you don't think there's a future, you can sell (likely for more than what you paid I expect).
