561  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Consolidated BFL Board Development Thread on: June 21, 2013, 07:27:27 AM
If each chip does 4ghs. Why does my jalapeno use 2 for 5ghs?

If you had paid more 100 US$, for the proposed BFL upgrade, it would be giving you 7 GH/s instead 5 GH/s, with the same 2 ASIC ships...
562  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Interest in 'native' Android Electrum client on: June 21, 2013, 07:20:11 AM
Is there any interest in a native Android client?

I want to bring alive the Android client with the same impressive experience that the desktop version has. I have 6 years professional experience in software/hardware cryptography & security, much of that mixing C, Lua, and Java systems together cooperatively. Recently I've done some Android development, so it is not a foreign concept.

Since my free time is at an extreme premium, I intend to start a bitcoinstarter kickstarter to make it "non-free" time and give people the opportunity to have a vested interest in the project. It would also help make me accountable, since there is a "paying customer" and known user base, unlike other side projects I've been involved in.

I intend on bringing some of the plugin / advanced features from the desktop client, including:
  • Labels
  • Label sync
  • QR code scanning / generation
  • Import of wallet.dat files from Electrum client (client may or may not use this format, likely SQLite based for Android speed)
  • Multiple wallets
  • Expert mode operations (freeze, priority, ...)
  • Proxy support

For the kickstarter, I intend on producing various work items to let backers know what to expect:
  • a documented work plan
  • user interface mockups
I will end up releasing this as open-source (MIT licensed for simplicity), however as an incentive to some donators, there will be "rewards" that will provide early-release builds + source code.

Some advanced features, like label syncing are "likely" to be implemented, however if a certain amount is reached above the goal level, it will guarantee such a feature is put in the roadmap.

I also strongly suggest that the community helps form this by providing feature requests, and I'll see what I can do about them.

Thoughts?

Also - should I call it "Electrum" or would there be a more appropriate name? I don't want to stomp on the chosen name, but I do want it easy to associate due to the fact that they will be running off the same servers and have the same general workflow / backup usability. Perhaps "Aurodium" - a "Star Wars" 'Outer Rim' currency metal... (Electrum is a metal used in Star Wars as well)... and both used in "Lightsabers" - which all know is a good protector of personal wealth Wink

I intend on having a "bitcoinstarter" link up soon.

I like the idea and I like the Electrum name. Good luck.

I propose another feature: Import wallet private keys.
563  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Heat on USB ASIC Erupter on: June 21, 2013, 05:41:44 AM
What happens if you don't have enough airflow?  I figured there were engineered to be just used with the heatsink, but I don't see a reduction in performance even after they've been running at full power for 24 hours (I do take them off for a few minutes a day while I'm rebooting my computer etc just to give them a break)

I think the lifespan of the ASIC will be reduced. But it's to early to know...
564  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Better Heatsink for your USB Block Erupters on: June 20, 2013, 11:05:05 PM
Greetings.

I have 2 CPU fans blowing directly my 2 USB Gizmos and now they don't go higher than 40ºC. But with a ARCTIC Breeze Mobile (or another equivalent), it will stay fixed to the same HUB you are using for the USB Gizmos.

I already bought this kit @ eBay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121059845105?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

The kit contains:

  • 1 x SoC Heatsink with pre-applied tape (14x14x10mm)
  • 1 x LAN Heatsink (8x8x6mm)
  • 1 x Voltage Regulator Heatsink (8x6x5mm)
  • 1 x Thermal Tape
  • 1 x Installation Guide

As the BE100 ASIC ship is the one who has more thermal emission and measures 6x6mm, the best heatsink of the kit is the Voltage Regulator Heatsink (8x6x5mm). But as the 8x8x5mm LAN heatsink also fits in the space, I'll use it for the ASIC of my second USB Gizmo.

I will glue those heatsinks directly on the ASIC's with the included thermal tape.

Best regards.

Good luck with the selling. I hope mine will arrive still in this decade...

Of course, I will post if the sample chips are shipped (and PM OP the tracking)  Wink
I check my order page at least once per day, so no worries of me missing it.

Thanks for the update, John K.

Nemesis is correct. There are a number of orders that are before the first Bitpay order, dating back well before #1600.  Garr, you can officially piss off at this point and take your accusations and stick them straight up your ass.  I tried to be nice and I wanted to help you and you give me all sorts of shit and accusations.  This is why we no longer give a shit about this forum;  Everyone here is monumental assholes, no matter how accommodating one tries to be.  Garr, you'll get your order when it comes up in the queue, I'm done looking into your problems or trying to help you.

As one of the guys who initially posted in this thread, I'm also included as a "monumental asshole". What did I do wrong to be offended by you, Inaba?

573  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL Jalapeno received today, Chip Die jagged edge question on: June 19, 2013, 08:33:00 AM
I've found jalapenos running generally really cool (38-42 deg C) if this is at all comparable to GPU temps heat shouldn't be an issue for longevity.

That said the higher the environment temp, the more hardware errors you get, the lower they seem to clock themselves.

It would be interesting to see if the 7 GH/s upgraded Jalapeño's still run @ those cool temperatures.

Ok, a little higher @ 46º... not bad! But 2% of HW errors...

Starting tomorrow (the 19th) I will be making updates to the wiki to bring it up to speed as well as add how-to's for various functions and hardware.

Thanks for agreeing to do this DBG, it is really appreciated.

To tell you the truth there are now so many people using MinePeon supporting it has become a part time job (one that does not pay unfortunately, not many people make use of the donation feature and seem to set it to 0 when they set their timezone).

With your help getting the wiki into shape I hope to be able to spend more time adding the features that people want (better stats for a start) and less time helping people out getting it running.  (Perhaps I will get time to do some new articles on mineforeman.com too)

Anyway, thanks.

Neil

Ok, I confess... I was one of the selfish guys that put the donation box to 0, as the Stats option doesn't work yet and I do need it working (I don't like te screen -r console).

I selected again 15 minutes.  Roll Eyes

Me alegro que tu te lo puedas tomar a risa Grin Josue, yo estaba sudando cocacola!

I think I will pay more, as in Portugal, the IVA is 23%. If you have a political corruption, we have the Troika and a Government of same color as your's...
I know that feeling of absent democracy friend, in bitcoin we have a hideout from banksters and
politicians, but I'm afraid it will not delay much until the Troika gets its dirty hands on our loved coin...

See what Troika is doing to Greece... It's trying to do the same to Portugal... I hope they wont do anything bad to Ireland, but Spain is still in risk... For now, the Troika's money only went to some Spanish banks... But ok... this is off-topic... less politics, more hashing...

Sorry, i'm on strike. I want my third gold coin back.
I'm not sure if you're serious or joking.  Either way, why does rank matter?

Of course I'm joking... but I did liked those 3 Gold Coins... Now I only have 2...  Cry

Greetings and thanks for the videos, NaXxow. I loved the language used in second...  Grin

Did BFL included a receipt with the real value of the Jalapeño at the outside of the package, including post & package, for the "Customs taxes"?

You are welcome, ct1aic! Excuse my uneducated language in the second one, it broke my nerves! About the receipt yes they did:

It reached 42,34€ of custom taxes but I don't think you country robs you like mine do, in Spain we are over the top in political corruption.
(Sorry about the censorship, its for my legal and personal safety, you know how internet works these days...)

I wish I was first to respond to this thread because I was going to say "We caught you scamming and demoted you", but now I see that joke would no longer be funny.

Hi Matthew. It's always funny! But probably you wouldn't like at all that some rule demoted you from Hero Member and took some gold coins...  Grin
