I have being hearing about Bitcoin for a very long time and I really don't know what it entails. I will really appreciate if I can get materials to aid me understand perfectly what it entails!

Dear all
I'm also new to the forum. I still learn everything myself from my predecessor's posts.
It's true that people on the Bitcointalk forum share very enthusiastically. I hope to receive everyone's advice.
That's a good start for you as you are reading old posts in thid forum. There Are different threads you can check in here that contains different topics. One of the threads you can check are the forum rules, merit system, rank guidelines and more. Continue reading more in this forum and then you'll gain knowledge sooner or later. That's what I've been doing until Iearned the basics and other informations.
Yeah exactly, because I can vouch that this particular pattern help me too in my improvement here, because at the time I started here it was like a hell hole of confusion and I really don't know how I would meet up with conversation as I loved to express myself but was always speaking off until I later got advice and started reading offline. I always read more and studied the link that were dropped and believe me it helped me a lot in terms of my growing here.
562  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Martingale betting system on: December 29, 2023, 02:24:51 PM
The more you lose the more you need higher amount of money to continue gambling if you are using martingale strategy. But you should have it in mind not to use the amount of money that you can not afford to lose to gamble. Also have it in mind that you may not need martingale strategy if you want to stay long gambling because it will make you spend little time. You can martingale with just $20 to $50. Go for $5 first, the $10 second, $20 third and $50 as the fifth. If you do not win in any of the 3 or 4 rounds, stop gambling for that week if you are not collecting more than $1000 weekly. If you collect like $500 weekly, make it up to $20 and stop gambling if you do not win in any round. If you won ones, also stop gambling for that day.
I don't think am okay with this type of gambling because what I see here is just someone getting addicted very fast to this type of gambling especially if the person isnt all that strong enough to meet up with decision and believe me there are lots of humans like that which at first start easy but when the gambling gets to their head they just tend forget their selves and let their emotions get to them and of you are that type of gambler then this particular system or pattern of gambling isn't the one that will suit your gambling health.
563  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: HODL!! the origin story on: December 28, 2023, 05:55:39 AM
I have later found some documentary on X app TWITTER UPDATE about this trend and it's even more popular as this halving is drawing near and investors are all hyped up due to the speculated bull season that comes with or after the halving.
That terminology emanated in 2016[/b[, a halving year, and under a tipsy circumstance. Most of us know the story and so I won't go into all that. However, my observation in what happened then, in 2020 and now is that there seems to be much excitement and noise from crypto loving people during halving years. I guess it's so as there's often an expectation that portfolios which have gone near comatose would be revived and new investments (both in Bitcoin and alts) get nice ROIs.

Now I think you are starting to get me confused because the original thread itself on the forum here shows 18 December 2013 and you are saying the word was coined or should I say misspelled a few years after the topic? Or you actually made a mistake because I'd like to think that any advice or information coming from you would be a good sourced information so I would like for you to reference me the link that confirms what you said or actually correct the date on your write up so you won't get any newbie confused upon reading it.
564  Economy / Speculation / Re: High transaction fees affects those who DCA on: December 26, 2023, 09:26:10 AM
The current Bitcoin fees wouldn't have mattered to me because I am not selling, but the fees do matter because I DCA, and I don't want to leave my coins in the centralized exchange. This month, I have spent roughly $5 to $10 in transaction fees when I DCA every week. It may seem small, but in my country, it's enough to cover my feeding expenses for a month cumulatively.

I discussed this issue with my friend, and he suggested I use an exchange that utilizes the Lightning Network. According to him, this would help me get off with no fees any day. While I'm considering this alternative, another option is to wait for a month or two, then use the amount we kept for weekly DCA, hold it for a month or two, and lump sum. This way, i would incur just a one time fee. What are your thoughts on this? I feel like I may use the money kept for DCA for other expenses.
That's true, because I also faced this fee challenge now and it got worse few weeks back when the fee was crazy high, I normally buy Bitcoin through binance P2P trade and although it's a small amount but I really don't care so long the process is a continual one but the problem now is not buying but actually when you want to move the coins to a non-custodial wallet like electrum for safe keeping because with all the incident I have read and happening that have occured, I can deduce that keeping your coins in an exchange is not an good idea at all but the issue is how can you move coins out when the fees are fucking crazy.
565  Other / Meta / Re: BCT vs BTT abbreviation for this forum on: December 26, 2023, 09:11:11 AM
D-oo-oo-h!  How in the world did I miss this topic?

I don't know why BTT is even used as an abbreviation for BitCoinTalk, and I've seen it used so many times that I've just stopped wondering.  And hey, even though I'm an opinionated bastard and am an ardent supporter of "BCT" as shorthand for our forum's name as well as a strong opponent of using mBTC as a unit of measure, this is crypto.  This is bitcointalk.  Everyone is free to write what they want as far as those things go.

And maaaan.....I missed the voting deadline for the poll.  My Christmas is just ruined now.

Sorry man, I guess the whole period has hectic for you. I would like to commend you on your writing skills though, I mean how is it that whenever I read your replies you tend to portray to your readers the exact way you feel and I am really impressed, I wish I had same writing skills, well maybe because english is not my strong language and am writing to be as creative as I can.

566  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Should security be employed in local bet shop? on: December 26, 2023, 08:56:08 AM
For those persons who prefer gambling in local bet shops instead of gambling online. I know that most times some persons carry huge sums of money to come to gamble and I understand that if it was a local casino there would be securities. Now, in the local bet shop, why are there no securities? I know a local bet shop close to where I reside. There are no securities there and there are people who act strange and mentally unstable there. They could cause fights, noise, and cheat. So for other persons to feel safe betting there I think securities should be employed there.
Common man it's gambling we are talking about, so yes there should be security, only the frustration of someone losing his money in a local bet shop can and have made the person go a-wall and started beating the workers for them to refund him that the money is not his and he needed to pay it back and the police was immediately called to come quench the tensed atmosphere because gambling can someone go crazy. If am to play at the local bet shops, I will for one feel safe when I know there are securities there that can resolve whatever issue that might come up.
567  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin is highly uncertain on: December 26, 2023, 08:50:34 AM
some people believe that cryptocurrencies could play a more significant role in the future, it's challenged to paper money for using in future but is it really possible to beat paper money for Bitcoin ? Prediction about Bitcoin is more complicated rather other cryptocurrencies.will it possible entirely replace traditional paper money in the next 10 years where few countries already taken step and work for vision 2030.AI and others developed technology already worked in it and people accepted happily.Public acceptance will heavily influence in every invention. It's essential for me to understand what will happen if the paper money is out of Bank how people survive with new currency ?
I don't know if you have heard about this popular statement "change is constant". This is the only thing nature and human race have agreed on so the possibility of paper being kicked out and being replaced by digital Bitcoin is very much big and I think time is just the prime factor to that determinant. Before now the world wasn't very familiar with paper money but change and evolution came in and it accepted whether they like or not and I feel thats same thing that's gonna happen although it might take long but this adoption is very much there and before you know people view will change especially the government. My government has already changed their view and lifted a ban already implanted on restrictions of transaction between the local fiat bank and crypto transaction but it was lifted this late part of 2023 and this brings positive hope for Bitcoin users in the nation.
568  Economy / Economics / Re: How to gain money on: December 26, 2023, 08:42:32 AM
Where am from, content creation is all the rave as its brings cool cash to the table but for that you will actually need to be talented if not you would be stuck without the attention and crowd that you need for it to be monetize. Again internet is everything and you can make lots of cool cash from freelance jobs online, this is because of how bad the nations currency have fallen out so you actually earning little in dollars can make a really big difference when converted to the normal fiat money.
569  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2023/2024 on: December 26, 2023, 08:35:21 AM
I think both teams can score. Aston Villa are in very good form at the moment but it won't be easy to come back with a win at United's ground, I think the match will be a draw.
Manchester United easily records defeats on their ground this season. Remember, Newcastle United thrashed the Red Devils at Old Trafford 3 nil in the carabao cup, Bournemouth thrashed them 3-0 in EPL round and it was also in Old Trafford,  Manchester City nailed them 3-0 at the same Old Trafford and Brighton & Hove Albion humbled them 3-1 at Old Trafford, no regards at all for the Red Devils at Old Trafford. Nothing connects draw because Aston Villa comes for winning and same with Manchester United but they don't have the capacity to held Unai Emery and his firing squad.
Manchester united are not the same in any way and that's why they have accumulated this much defeat on their home soil and I doubt that the red devils can with unai emery and moreover he has some winning records against Manchester united when he was at Seville and I know he would love to continue by winning this game. Of it's was another other period I can bet that Manchester would given them a really though game but this Aston villa team has evolved and I doubt that Manchester united can survive them, I mean if Manchester city and arsenal couldn't survive then it's clear what might happen to united.
570  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: HODL!! the origin story on: December 26, 2023, 08:27:47 AM

Also I want you to understand that the word "HODL" was actually a misspelling of HOLD by Gamekyuubo and since he was the first person to use HODL on this forum with the actual intention of HODLING, the word gradually became adopted overtime and hence it's actually uniqueness to Bitcoin although sometimes people use it when referring to other crypto currencies.
Thanks for the information but I think this here thread is meant for the community to actually drop hint or lecture on other famous events or popular words if any was formed again like this one here. And I have read your thread a really informative and educative one too.

And also if actually you took your time to read, you will see that I have already gave that insight about the word actually being a mistake or a misspelled word that later became adopted by the Bitcoin and crypto community at large.

Hello friends I thought I should share this Bitcointalk masterpiece and historical post that gave rise to the famous word HODL that is been used through out the entire crypto space and especially the Bitcoin community.

DECEMBER 18TH
A famous Bitcointalk member @Gamekyuubo gave rise to the now word HODL that is so famous for its use by Bitcoin enthusiast and crypto lovers in the aspect of using Bitcoin as investment means
note: the actual original thread I AM HODLING

Like me, most newbie and I can bet even some upcoming users here don't know how this famous word came to be. For me it has been something of curious thought of why this actual word is not spelled the way it's supposed to be HOLD instead it's spelled HODL and this was what led to my search and I discovered that the word itself was actually a mistake that came around and later got stuck and deemed perfect to use. I have later found some documentary on X app TWITTER UPDATE about this trend and it's even more popular as this halving is drawing near and investors are all hyped up due to the speculated bull season that comes with or after the halving.

The word formation came through an interesting way and most people here didn't actually know this so I will like for the community to educate me more and others too if any other famous Bitcoin word was formed here also and also correct and add too if there is any detail I missed out too

573  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: You only got what you deserve on: December 24, 2023, 09:35:04 PM
In cryptocurrency generally you only got what you deserve, we might complain of how bad  or the terrible experience you have had during trading or holding the wrong asset, but in reality you only got what you deserve.
Look at those that have DCA into Bitcoin over the years, right now, they will still be in profit because that's what they deserve, you might decide to hold an alt and let go at the right time and come out profitable, because of the knowledge you have on how to navigate your way in the crypto space make it deserving.
You might decide to lose your money by holding shit coin, instead of Bitcoin because of your lack of knowledge in the crypto space.
If you still want to keep holding Bitcoin, which means you believe in it, so when the bull runs comes and you start reaping your rewards, you deserve it.
Because you were patience enough to hold the right currency which is Bitcoin.

As a newbie or experience trader, if you decide to do revenge trading, emotional trading or high leverage trading, and you lose everything, that's what you deserve, because you lack the knowledge and discipline required to know when to stop and when to continue.
In this space we all get what we deserve.
Sometimes lack of the right knowledge is the major cause or should I make it more appropriate by calling it ignorance because most people know of the DCA but tend to ignore and choose a faster route to their Bitcoin portfolio and knowing full the risk involved they still take it and it's always a two sided coin when it's comes to taking huge risk, it's either you win or lose it all and if you ask me I think slowly gathering your portfolio will be better as their no certain fear of losing all saving at any wrong turn of choice making.
574  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Know when to ride and stop! on: December 24, 2023, 09:12:26 PM
I decided to create this topic as a tip to fellow gambler that wants to have a slightly increase chance to win on gambling.

Fella should know when to ride when you are on a win streak. You can test the water first by betting slowly until you get the tempo of winning streak then slowly increase your bet while you are still winning. Stop immediately when you encounter a lose or two because there’s a high chance that you will be tilted and chase loss until you lose everything.

This is exactly the problem here, because alot of people don't know when to stop gambling, well it's because of the winning streak they encounter before the losses start coming and this lose tend to cloud their judgement to actually know that their is an actual opposite of winning streak called losing streak and it's way more deadly than the winning streak because it makes you increase your staking to the level that you actually lose everything in a split second or minutes.
575  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2023/2024 on: December 24, 2023, 08:58:21 PM
It's a big blow for the Blues to get up and improve their fortunes this season, if I'm not mistaken, R James has been sidelined twice this season due to injury. An endless misery befalling Pochettino squad, the latest defeat to Wolves adds to the complexity of the situation they are experiencing. As one of the players and also the team captain, James absence means a big problem that Pochettino must find a solution for.

Injury problems have been one of the factors in Chelsea decline this season, many players have been in the treatment room one after another. As many as seven players are currently sidelined, it is very difficult for Pochettino to achieve the target and finish in a more appropriate place. The composition of players who lack experience adds to the coach's headaches, the back line is not their only problem this season.

I feel this Poch’s Chelsea is facing so may difficulties especially upfront and to crown it all the injury problem. Yes Reece James has been on the sideline twice due to injury but that’s not a key player, I feel the loss of Caicedo to injury was one reason why they lost this match. Though injury isn’t an excuse in football because he has replacements just that his replacements aren’t fully fit.

Now let’s check the players ratings, you see that yes they give their all but when they get in to score a goal they seem pretty weak and fragile up front; this is one major challenge, Pochettino needs to take care of it very fast else this Chelsea will just be a shadow of last season and that’s one thing the fans will kick against especially with the large amount spent in the transfer window, and I'm pretty sure they'll still spend alot more.
Chelsea loss today shouldn't be blame on Caicedo injury, Chelsea as a club hasn't been playing well even with Caicedo on the pitch. Sometimes I begin to wonder if the glory days of Chelsea ended Abramovic. Chelsea and Manchester United are always in the news for the bad reason.
That club as a whole needs restructuring and samw think applies for Manchester united, the two team are in one big hell of a problem and I doubt that they can manage to squeeze their way out of it if the management doesn't do something. The case of Chelsea for me is more severe because for some reason they have spent all  the money on acquiring players but still yet no results have been gotten from the huge money on players.
576  Other / Meta / Re: BCT vs BTT abbreviation for this forum on: December 22, 2023, 07:13:31 PM
This thread inspired me a lot and now I don't prefer any abbreviation or short form of Bitcointalk, I simply use the full name "Bitcointalk" when I tell someone about it. I think we all should prefer to use full name of the site instead of using those abbreviations.
Although I won't count myself as an expert but I think the crypto community as whole is filled with abbreviation and shorted words so actually calling the number crypto community with a reference abbreviation is no bad idea at all. Well am not too familiar with the terms of any of the abbreviation but I think this new update sounds and feel more legit #BTCT but it's a little long for abbreviation though as abbreviation is supposed to be brief, short and simple.
577  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Inflation rate and Bitcoin. on: December 22, 2023, 06:19:29 PM
.
.

The vice presidential candidate of Indonesia, santiaga Uno, in expressing interest in Bitcoin and for his campaigns said he would raise Bitcoin experts in order to help the country's economy. Let's not even dive into the fact that the Nigerian government has shown no interest whatsoever in Bitcoin talk more of accepting it for Economic purposes. Let's move into the facts that Santiaga wants to raise Bitcoin experts meanwhile, we have Bitcoin experts in this country why isn't it helping the economy even if it's a little? Or does it have to be a political thing before it makes an impact on the economy?

Well I think the rave at which politicians are starting to use Bitcoin as their agenda manifesto is just starting to look really odd although I would or might count it as a good development as the adoption of Bitcoin would be on a larger scale but one thing that should be understood is that a politician promising to work closely with Bitcoin might be just a strategy for them to win their election because they definitely know the masses will follow them just like the dramatic Argentina president and his flaunting talks about Bitcoin.

Bitcoin is good in many aspect but am sure its not a magic saviour that can wipe out the inflation like the way we are proposing it to be or even make the country okay overnight and I say this with El Salvador in the picture, even though they have made Bitcoin their legal tender doesn't mean there are not still facing challenges.

579  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Is online bank good? on: December 16, 2023, 06:58:16 PM
Many Nigerians are used to online banks and funny to say online banks gets more customers than banks like Firstbank, Access bank e.t.c. So my question is that is online bank good? Is it safe? These are the questions I ask and some people normally ask. Many people don’t like online because it doesn’t have any office you can run to in case of any issues.

Can it get hacked?
I would actually say yes it can get hacked. It’s very easy to hack online banks.

If the phone gets missing, can you block the account?
No, if your phone gets missing and you’re using an online bank it will be easily hacked or they can easily take all your money while other banks, if you’re phone or ATM card gets missing you can go to their office and lay a complain and they will close down the account or card.
My brother so far technology is concerned there is no system nor software created by the human mind that cannot be hacked. So thinking that online bank are unsafe due to security breach is just a silly excuse, because I believe even the commercial banks can be hack and before now that online banks were not this popular, many people and I have witnessed many myself, have complianed that someone hack their account and sometimes it may be to the ignorance of the owner of account.

If Bitcoin wallet and transaction which are said to be decentralized and more tightly secure can be hacked then what are online banks and commercial banks that are controlled by human and bankers like me and you that cannot be hacked. Because I liked to believe that most times, if an account information is leaked the bankers are widely involved in it.
