561  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Tether Confirms Extensive Collaboration With DOJ, FBI and Secret Service on: December 20, 2023, 08:23:04 AM
That's a total disaster and against the number one feature of crypto and that's decentralization. They could have partnered or collaborated with other companies or agencies but definitely not the law enforcement agencies or any organization directly partnering with the government because these people don't like the whole idea of decentralization in crypto and all they want is either to gain control of crypto or bring it down if they can't.

I know that Tether is somehow tied to US Dollar but it's still  crypto and shouldn't be controlled or regulated by anyone, especially not the government. Well then let's see what comes out of this alliance.
562  Economy / Reputation / Re: Looking for a honest Escrow on: December 18, 2023, 03:29:15 PM
Try this: Send 0.0001BTC from Trust to Exodus (or whatever you feel like, but NOT an Exchange) with 10sat/byte. You will be able to use the 0.0001BTC on Exodus after a minute. (At least what I think and that have worked for me)
This long time waiting if a wallet requires confirmations. If I am wrong please don't laugh i am still new, but I am pretty sure this works.
So the mempool fee's won't affect this.

Bro, all you are doing is sending unconfirmed coins. If the parent transaction never confirms, it will be like you never sent anything at all. Nobody who knows what they're doing will accept them for payment until they've been confirmed.

Absolutely! You are entirely correct; if the parent transaction isn't confirmed, transferring unconfirmed coins is only making "promises" of coins that might never come true. Accepting unconfirmed coins as payment carries a big risk because you can never receive the real currency. In summary, confirmation is required if you wish to send someone bitcoins and have them truly receive them. To ensure that the transaction is authentic and final, confirmation is essential.
563  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Jpg monkeys are making the fees impossible? Just use a meme coin! on: December 17, 2023, 05:01:56 PM
Sometimes life gives you a few examples of sweet irony, completely mindfuck or mind-blowing events that just made you worry of what's next!

So, here we are, fees over 200sat/v , meaning at least 12$ for the smallest tx, if you have like 5 inputs and not one you can simply just leave it to the next year and it's all supposedly created by ordinals or how some (including me) call them: jpg monkeys.

Now, being spammed by the those monkeys, the obvious solution is....to use a meme coin! Yeah, you heard me right, a shitcoin meme coin! And guess what? Most are doing it!

Self explanatory graphs!

Despite doge making 1,336,216 in the last 24 hours compared to 665,734 for BTC, the median fee is  $0.0094 compared to $24.97.

Why? Dunno..
Something about the capacity of the blockchain or something but it is what it is, I mean it's impossible for BTC to get the same capacity as Doge, imagine spending 150$ for a 6tb ssd for your node or needing a 10mbps internet connection, this is just impossible, we have been told numerous times that 1mb is the maximum that can be sent over 10 minutes around the world, it doesn't matter that I'm downloading's something over bittorrent with 60MB/s right now, it's just a fluke!
/rant over

I just hope Santa isn't buying presents with Bitcoin, fees will bankrupt him!
/ second rant over

Yes, that is a very ironic and humorous circumstance! It's amazing how the rise of ordinals, or jpg monkeys as you may name them, has increased network fees for Bitcoin. And the cherry on top is that individuals are now turning to meme coins as a way to avoid the exorbitant fees! It truly demonstrates the unpredictable nature of the cryptocurrency market and the inventiveness of people involved.
564  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: [Dec 2023] Fees are high, wait for opportunity to Consolidate your small inputs on: December 16, 2023, 10:54:01 PM
But the question is will nodes relay that transaction and will other mining pools receive that? I doubt it.

Mining pools have a dozen nodes around the globe, and more specifically , they are perfectly connected to one another, it's essential to avoid orphan/stale blocks, I don't remember hearing about any orphan race for ages now.
It is true that mining pools contain nodes all around the world, and that these nodes are interconnected to prevent blocks from being stale or orphaned. This is an essential component of their business since the miners would lose money if there were any orphaned or stale blocks. Orphan races are extinct thanks to the network's resilience and high degree of communication between nodes.
565  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Think i have lost all my bitcoin :( on: December 16, 2023, 10:02:35 PM
Someone correct me if I'm wrong here, but even if you had an extended seed phrase, I don't believe you need to use that when you're trying to open the wallet using Electrum or Sparrow.

That is correct: you do not need an extended seed phrase in order to open a wallet using Electrum or Sparrow. These wallets utilize a standard seed phrase, which can consist of 12 or 24 words, depending on the user's choice. Wallets that support multi-signature transactions or other more sophisticated features usually use the extended seed phrase format.

Yes you need to add the custom word that you use to extend the seed. Without it you will be getting a total new different wallet, it works like a passphrase. The extended seed in electrum is basically to create multiple wallets from one seed phrase with just different custom word at the end.

Yes, it is a really good explanation of how Electrum's expanded seed phrase functions. In order to generate a new wallet with a distinct set of addresses, the custom word (also known as the passphrase) is effectively a "salt" that is added to the seed phrase. This feature helps users to keep their money organized and distinct by enabling them to establish several wallets from a single seed phrase. But in order to get into the wallet, you have to remember the personalized word.
566  Other / Off-topic / Re: Truth about what is going on in space on: December 16, 2023, 09:24:39 PM
Every subatomic particle in your whole body is becoming farther and farther apart.   All the stars and galaxies are moving away from each other... expanding universe.

Sentence 2 is true right now, but sentence 1 is not.

The measurement between subatomic particles does not change within the atom.  The expansion force you write about (dark energy) is currently spreading galaxies and stars apart, but not the stars themselves.   Gravity there is still winning.   Once those stars start to be torn apart, the strong nuclear force of the particles everywhere is still many factors of ten stronger than dark energy.     Eventually the Big Rip will occur, unless there is some other force we have yet to detect.

Interesting stuff for sure!

Indeed, There is no direct impact of space expansion at the cosmic scale on subatomic particles. Since the impacts of space expansion are felt on a far greater scale than at the atomic level, they are not directly witnessed. It is also very true that the behavior of matter within stars and galaxies is still dominated by gravity; hence, the space expansion is not stretching the particles that comprise those formations.

Still, it's an intriguing thought to wonder what would happen if space were stretched to the point that atoms were literally being torn apart by it! Physicists have obviously thought about that possibility, but it's unclear if it will truly come to pass. Considering the fact that we really do not have a complete knowledge of the rules of physics, it is difficult to make any kind of predictions about the long-term future of the universe.
567  Economy / Reputation / Re: Need to adjust my trust list on: December 16, 2023, 03:43:00 PM
I'll get to investigating and see if there are any other untrustworthy or suspicious users.
And how exactly are you going to do that, considering that your account was created less than 2 months ago? Perhaps you already read all forum thus you know who is scammer and who isn't?

I can't recall usernames, but there was that charity scam a while back, the Coldkey scam in the Collectibles section, and maybe a couple of others.  I'm sure that doesn't help, but I thought I'd just mention it if anyone remembers the details/names.
I believe the username of the user that pulled off the Coldkey Scam was Yogg
568  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: No risk no reward on: December 16, 2023, 11:33:11 AM
Before making an investment always put it at the back of your mind that the higher you stake the more higher your income will be, In this case is like we do forget one thing that it's not about winning all time but actually loss also. When you admit it that you earn and at the same time you might loss. That means you are also capable of making a run into the crypto currency world.
That's why it always good to read and understand something before you engage yourself into it, or neither trying to introduce someone into it for example if your investment is on (BTC) make sure you have learn more about it.
But it always about risk and i do believe everyone knows whenever there's no risk no reward.

It's true that without risk there'll be no reward, but you'll agree with me that not all risks are worth taking. There are risks that you should pass, because it'll never bring any reward but put you or your investment into jeopardy, those are the kinda risk that'll change your life forever, if you manage to pull it off and the odds fall in your favor, then it'll definitely change your life for the better but if the opposite, then it'll change your life for the worse.

Every investor knows that investment is all about risk, you need to take certain risks in order to gain, but it's also very important that as a wise investor, it's important and necessary to walk away from certain risks in order to save your self from doom and bankruptcy.
569  Economy / Economics / Re: Gold is up to new ATH, silver is up, BITCOIN IS BACK BABY!!! on: December 13, 2023, 10:42:50 PM
As of today when I checked the price of gold & silver, they were both down quite a bit, whereas bitcoin seems to be rebounding from that little dip it took.  That much I'm happy about--bitcoin going back up, that is.  Hopefully that dip was just that, and bitcoin is in an upward trend.  Guess we'll see, and I'm on the sidelines rooting for it like a parade watcher.

Investors' sentiment towards Bitcoin is quite optimistic following the current trends now. Bitcoin is without any doubt considered as a safe haven asset right now by investors and unlike gold and silver or every other asset every little dip right now is an opportunity for more investors to join the moving train and invest more on Bitcoin, which makes it very easy for Bitcoin to recover from any little dip effortlessly.
570  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: message Not enough funds. You need to set a lower fee. on: December 13, 2023, 10:29:45 PM
When I try to pay I get message Not enough funds. You need to set a lower fee. But I have enough money on balance to send to receiver and to pay mining fee. The balance was 0.379 mbts. I had to pay 0.22. The mining fee was approximately 0.9 mbts. I wanted to pay using ETA.  Please write me, how to solve the problem when paying by ETA or static. If I do not want to pay with mempool.
Regards,
Alex

This often happens, I've had similar experience some time ago. It's also possible that the error message is indicating that you don't have enough funds to cover both the transaction fees and the associated mining fee. The few times I paid with ETA, I figured out that this often occurs because the estimated amount isn't always enough to cover for both the transaction fee as well as the mining fee. In this case you can try increasing the amount you're paying or you can also try to adjust the fees and see if it works.

If this persists you could try an alternative payment method, I'll highly recommend STATIC, unlike ETA static payment method will guarantee the exact amount you're paying and you can as well set an actual fee, I believe you wouldn't encounter such problem with STATIC
571  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: A gambler takes his own life after a loss. on: December 13, 2023, 10:07:55 PM
Question: Is there any amount lost that can make you commit suicide?
If yes, then don't ever use such amount to gamble.

There are more reasons why this person died than this. As I read this in one of the country's new papers, the main reason this person took his own life was as a result of not using only his money to play this bet. But after a series of losses over the month, he finally saw a game he taught that would make him recover all that he had lost in the past, and wagering with just a small amount was not enough for him, so he insisted on taking loans from colleagues and friends, whose money he took from them was even higher than what he put in the game himself.

So what makes him take his life is not knowing how to repay back all this loan he took and the share of facing those who he has borrowed money from who know the excuse that he used to take that loan.

It's just a pity that someone will borrow to gamble and lose instead of looking for means necessary to repay, like selling property, pleading for extensions, or anything else, he decides to take his own life over money he can make within a year. Now he knows nothing about what the family is facing right now as a result of his selfish decision.

This exactly the reason why it's advised never to gamble with loan money or use gambling as a backup plan because you might just end up being disappointed and not everyone can be able to manage such a disappointment.

I understand what the fellow must have been through, but he's supposed to have truly understood the true nature of gambling, you can't completely rely on it to solve your immediate problem because you don't know luck will be on your side, it may fall on the day you least expect, if he had really understood this then he wouldn't have used gambling as a backup plan to raise money to repay his debt. But this still wasn't enough reason for him to take his life, several times we can find ourselves in situations that seems to be the end of the road for us but there always turns out to be a way out, I'm pretty sure if he had held on a while longer, he would've gotten a way out of his predicament rather than taking his own life.
572  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin mixing is NOT money laundering, per se on: December 12, 2023, 06:59:19 AM
If we're to choose over and over again I'd still choose anonymity and this is what Bitcoin mixers brings to the table. There's absolutely nothing wrong with me deciding to hide and conceal my business from the rest of the world,  I really didn't like the idea that anyone would be able to track my transactions  and trace it back to you so Bitcoin mixers partially solved that problem for me.

Now we all know that there are and will always be people who abuse anything and everything,  there are people who take advantage of this opportunity and use it for their selfish interest but it would be wrong to term mixers and Bitcoin mixing as money laundering because all it has done is increase anonymity in the use of Bitcoin
573  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Risk only what you can afford to lose on: December 12, 2023, 06:43:12 AM
First of all, your thread subject doesn't quite introduce your message, I was expecting to see something else that related to the subject.

But then again, choosing the safest way to store your Bitcoin is a personal decision, depends on different people's preferences and of course certain factors may also contribute. For you the safest way to store your Bitcoin is via a Hardware wallet, but there are also people out there who believe using a highly secured software wallet is the best and they have their reasons why they think so. Does it mean that they're wrong? Or does it mean they're outdated? No. Everyone sticks to what they believe is best for them and works more effective for them.

But whatever storage method you ever decide to choose, we should have in mind that it's not 100% safe and anything can go wrong at anytime if you're not careful enough.

You high ranked members are supposed to guide newbies because they're like infants here, rather than sounding sounding so impolite.
Impolite?
Which part of my post sounds impolite?  Can you rephrase it?

Just some advice, besides, I give a link where Op is supposed to start.
You're depending on OP too much as I see, hmm I do smell not something good.

Maybe the word IMPOLITE pissed you.
I mean no disrespect, all I'm saying is that there are more polite  and less harsh ways you could relate your information to OP.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with OP posting on the forum as a newbie. Learning and contributing doesn't in anyway contradict common sense.

And I can't wrap my head around what you mean by DEPENDING ON OP TOO MUCH or what you're trying to say, but what I can say is that you've seen wrong.

My observation is that there are more polite and less harsh ways to convey your message and if you find that offensive, then SORRY.
575  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I am new here on: December 10, 2023, 01:21:58 PM
I need materials to further my knowledge about Bitcoin or crypto space generally. Plasey I need your help
Welcome to the forum, first, you should avoid posting incorrect typos.

I suggest you spend your time first reading rather than posting, here in this section, where your first post was created it should be enough to learn those basic principles in the forum and the cryptos as well.  See on pinned topic above.

I can also suggest this site, https://bitcoin.org/en/.
It has supported many languages that might be where your country belongs.

Good luck and see you around.

Give the dude a break man.
He's just arrived to the forum and you're already giving him the impression that the forum isn't a hospitable space.

He's just a newbie that knows absolutely nothing about the forum and has indicated interest to learn about Bitcoin and seeking for materials. You were once a newbie Mate.

You high ranked members are supposed to guide newbies because they're like infants here, rather than sounding sounding so impolite.
576  Local / Politics and society (Naija) / Re: Better way to earn a merit on: December 10, 2023, 11:08:14 AM
It obvious am new here yea am a newbies. What make a post earn a merit ? What are the characteristics of a good post and how do we earn a merit for our post and other activities happening here and how is Bitcoin always important in the forums . So Member, full member, hero member, Lagendary and so on pls let have the tips thanks 🙏❤️ #bitcoin Lords

You're welcome to the forum.
First of all, you should ask yourself why you're here on the forum, this forum is somewhere that provides you with all the Bitcoin knowledge you require and new in your Bitcoin journey, this is the primary aim of this this forum, and then alongside that, their are other incentives that comes along with the knowledge you acquire, which is the gaining of merits and attaining a significant position on the forum and joining a paid signature campaign and then start earning from it.

The problems that we encounter here on the forum as newbies is that we fail to understand the reason for the forum and then we prioritize gaining merits over the learning and seeking knowledge which is wrong. It's just like the bible said, seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and every other thing will be added to you, so it is here, seek first the knowledge embedded on this forum and the merits will follow as rewards.

Rather than making merits your priority, I advice you dedicate yourself to learning and acquiring knowledge here, then you'll have something to offer, because you can only earn merit here when you have something productive to offer, that's when you'll be rewarded with merits, so how can you earn merits when you've got absolutely nothing to offer?

This is what many newbies fail to understand and in their quest to seeking merits rather than knowledge, they end up spamming the forum and making irrelevant and unproductive posts and comments just because they're hungry for merits, you won't succeed here like that. Everyone in this forum who has attained a certain significant position all have something to offer and something they've offered to the forum and are now reaping their rewards. So the best way to earn merits is to go first for the knowledge, do your research and then you'll be surprised how the merits will start coming in their numbers.

578  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Someone Deposited Money Into My Bitcoin Wallet. Can He Withdraw it? on: December 09, 2023, 01:21:56 AM
Someone owed me money and he wanted to pay me in Bitcoin.
So I gave him my Bitcoin wallet address and he transferred the funds.
It's now complete.
But can he now withdraw the money since he has my bitcoin wallet address?

It's a No...
You're the only who has access to your Bitcoin, except of course maybe your account is been compromised, or you shared your wallet secret phrases with him, but if you didn't , then you're sure that your funds are safe and can't be accessed by either your friend or someone else.

And if you're concerned about your Bitcoin's safety and security, perhaps this thread may be of help to you https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5312045.0

It may worth mentioning that anyone who knows your bitcoin address can check your transactions.
So, if you care about your about your privacy, you shouldn't reuse addresses.

Yes, and this helps maintain transparency in the Bitcoin Network, although it might look like this feature  makes Bitcoin users not to enjoy complete anonymity and make Bitcoin transaction traceable and every man's business. Although there are some anonymous wallets that are not easily trackable even when you have the wallet addresses.

And OP you made a little typo error in your statement.
579  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is Bitcoin really risky as they say? on: December 09, 2023, 12:32:30 AM
Generally, most people sees Bitcoin as being of high risk , meanwhile, others tend to disagree with the fact of being risky.

Bitcoin can be understood from different angles on how it will become beneficial to one. Either as a store of value(So as to avoid taxes), Investment or means of payment.

I believe there are a lot of different ways to invest your time and money, with a little work and the right teacher, one can easily invest in bitcoin.

In a case where some persons tag Bitcoin as being Risky(Yes it is), I have experience losses because I lacked those vital principles one should understand even before investing. Also knowing when to sale out my investments for profit, permit me to say more of a paper hand(panick and sell when price is down) and this should not be encouraged.

This forum has helped me very extensively on different levels, knowing when to buy, how to buy and wallet much safer to store my investments.
Being on this forum has helped me a lot I now know how not to fall for scams and by foolishly Linking my investment wallet for Airdrops or giveaways.
This is believing... Knowledge is wealth

Indeed, Bitcoin is a volatile asset, but that doesn't make it risky to invest in, if you think Bitcoin is risky, then try Altcoins. Bitcoin in my opinion is the safest asset to invest in irrespective of it's volatile nature,, because no matter how much Bitcoin dips in its price, it always comes back up and reach for hight heights so if you keep holding, even  during the dips, you'll see that Bitcoin is a safe haven compared to other crypto assets.
580  Economy / Economics / Re: What class of an investor are you? on: December 07, 2023, 08:07:36 PM

The Ponzi scheme Investor
One who invests in ponzi scams continuously is this. This is the person who thinks about get-rich-quick schemes.

People might think that this set of investors doesn't exist, but I can confirm that there are people that are addicted to Ponzi scheme investors. Regardless of how much they lose, immediately they see another Ponzi firm they will still put their funds. They are impatient people that want to make a profit without any stress or delay. I have a friend that dislikes investing in Bitcoin because he thinks it is a waste of time. He prefers investing in businesses that promise large profit within a short time.

Lol this just reminds me of a friend I have, he's just so addicted to Ponzi schemes that he sees it as the only way that'll make him rich, regardless being duped and scammed several times, when asked why he was still very persistent, he'd always say, the times he lost money wasn't his time and that his time will surely come and he'll hit it big through the Ponzi schemes.

He was the person that introduced me to Ponzi, that was when I started looking for ways to make money online, then I wasn't quite familiar with Bitcoin. It only took me two experiences of loosing my money to realize this was a total bullshit and I started sorting for other ways and that was how I learnt about bitcoin.

This dude has even device techniques of following the Ponzi, deep down he knows they're all scams but he has also devices means to cash out from them, he'd always look for new and fresh Ponzi schemes and then invest his money because he believes whoever invests in the earliest stages of the project wouldnt loose money, and funny enough it always works for him, he makes good money from them but it's a very risky venture and that's a risk I can't afford to take.
