561  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Would it be fair to say Satoshi is a British Mathematician? on: April 15, 2013, 02:51:23 AM
Let's assign to Satoshi a nationality. Of all nations, China is most populous. Therefore, it's most likely Satoshi is Chinese.

How about an occupation? The most common occupation is a retail salesperson. Satoshi should therefore be a retail salesperson.

I've got it, folks: Satoshi is a Chinese Retail Salesperson!

Close. Satoshi is actually a Chinese Relic Collector.
562  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-04-12 Roger Ver Rocks on FoxBusiness!! on: April 13, 2013, 11:08:14 PM
+1 to Roger.

He was composed, direct, rational and had solid arguments. What a relief after the cringing TV appearances of Amir Taaki recently.

The professor was just spreading FUD with blanket statements like "It is a game", "It can be hacked", "Nobody knows who created this thing", "The gold standard failed". I did sense a "deer in the headlights" look his eyes though. Disruption is a bitch and it is coming straight at ya Prof.
563  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NOTROLL.IN admin overnight withdrew 25% of our coins from our balances ! on: April 11, 2013, 05:45:06 AM
I came back from work today and checked my notroll.in mining balance and was a bit confused:

My account claimed I mined 9.77130678 LTC in the last 24 hours.

However my balance and payouts in the last 24 hours only add up to 2.50750158 LTC.

So where did the other 7.2638052 LTC go?

This thread explains part of it, but it seems more than 25% is missing.

Needless to say, I'll be moving to another pool. Good day to you sir.
564  Economy / Speculation / Re: Recovery or bull trap? on: April 10, 2013, 11:34:37 PM
Easy.  Bull trap.

Oh proudhon! You came as I called!

Clearly this thread is a Bear trap Smiley
565  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why aren't I filthy rich yet? It's been like two months. on: April 10, 2013, 02:46:28 AM
"what's to stop someone else from copying the idea (or improving upon it) and coming out with 'Bytecoin'?"

Hah! That would *never* happen.
566  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: April 09, 2013, 11:02:49 PM
It implies that mining bitcoins with namecoins can give 13% more earnings. I wonder if thats true but if yes, then it would be a not small loss. Too bad that its not possible with stratum.

Merged mining NMC would provide 5.5% additional profit according to http://dustcoin.com/mining

567  Economy / Speculation / Re: $236 - What BS - Selling OUT today! on: April 09, 2013, 10:54:05 PM
Bitcoin is the crack in the dam holding back an ocean of fiat.

drip...drip...drip...

568  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Gavin and Evoorhees May Be Giving Wrong Advice on: April 09, 2013, 07:56:59 PM
Do you think Jesus became popular because people said, "Jesus is a good guy, but don't believe everything you hear about Jesus."  NO!  People said, "Jesus can walk on water!  You will go to heaven!"  Look at where Christianity is now.  As Max Keiser said, the crypto-christ has returned, and his name is Satoshi Nakamoto!

I'm not saying that one should lie about bitcoin, but one should explain bitcoin in all of its glory about how it can change the world.  Smiley

Okay Jimbo, time for you to lay off on the Kool-Aid for a while Smiley
569  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: April 08, 2013, 10:47:44 PM
Would it be possible for ASICMINER to issue a stock dividend instead of weekly BTC payments?
570  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Amir Taaki needs to stop talking about bitcoins on: April 07, 2013, 06:05:19 PM
Amir was really nice to me when I had to work with him with Bitcoinica going down.  I guess perhaps he fucked us Bitcoinica users with releasing the source code, but I mean hopefully we get those coins back.  I think there are some things you could fault Amir for, but this interview is not one of them.  I thought this was excellent!!!!!

Same here. I think he has good intentions but has a clear tendency to fuck up. I'd wish I'd seen more of these videos before handing my coins over to him. Clearly I would have thought twice about it! Amir was directly responsible for the last Bitcoinica hack when he leaked the source containing password data to their MtGox account, his response was along the lines of "I don't feel bad for people with a lot of coins. It is just numbers".

And yes, we all know Bitcoin is revolutionary but that does not mean you have to dress up like an Anarchist and act like a 16 year old overly attached girlfriend. Bitcoin is a-political. I'd rather see a more trojan style silent revolution. No 3D printing of guns and throwing of bricks necessary here.
571  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: April 3 BFL ASIC update. on: April 05, 2013, 01:17:39 AM
Actually, I prefer this one:

https://products.butterflylabs.com/60gh-bitcoin-miner.html

Cheaper than a 25 Ghash/s !  Grin

I'm wrong. It's $50 more expensive than a 25 Ghash/s  Grin

And it's gone!

How about this one? https://products.butterflylabs.com/hdmijaijwo3625sqpkc0953nxoq540md.html
572  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: April 3 BFL ASIC update. on: April 04, 2013, 05:35:36 PM
Now they've changed the Jalapeno to 5 Gh/$274. Can't seem to make up their mind, lol.

They've promised to deliver the rated hashrate to customers, so a 25GH/s Little Single plus a 5GH/s Jalapeno would satisfy that, as would a 50GH/s Single plus two Jalapenos.

Nailed it.
573  Economy / Speculation / Re: Peer to peer digital Ponzi. on: April 03, 2013, 08:04:49 PM
what did you buy whit bitcoin in 2010 ?
how was bitcoin mined in 2010 ?

What's your point? I still think Litecoin is a joke.
It offers little to no improvement over the current protocol.
Just a bunch of GPU miners sad they finally got axed from Bitcoin.

Well if it is a joke it certainly is a profitable joke! http://dustcoin.com/mining
574  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: First BFL ASIC! on: April 03, 2013, 03:39:06 PM
BFL has been playing us all for fools. Pre-order customers and BoB betters alike. Welcome to the club!
575  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: First BFL ASIC! on: April 02, 2013, 07:26:15 PM
1) The fact that BFL seems to care more about winning a bet than delivering a solid product to customers speaks volumes.

2) The way they tried to win this bet speaks volumes about the dishonest way they conduct their business. It is borderline scammy.

I'm sorry, but as far as BFL customers are concerned this is a FAIL on two counts. Regardless if BFL wins this silly bet or not. Get a clue folks and set your priorities straight.
576  Economy / Speculation / Re: [[SMOOTHIE PRICE CALL]]: This week Bitcoin breaks $100 and Litecoin breaks $1 on: April 01, 2013, 08:43:22 PM
I like the idea of Litecoin, but I can't get over how retarded the whole scrypt thing is.

ASICs are good for a digital currency, end of story. The more security = the better.

I'm mining Lite just to get Bit atm.

I would argue that miner diversity is good for security. Where BTC mining is becoming a specialist business. LTC mining is open and profitable for anyone with a GPU. I'd rather put my security bet on a legion of teenagers in basements running GPU rigs on parent subsidized energy costs (and perhaps the next generation of game consoles) than a bunch of concentrated datacenters running ASIC hardware.
577  Economy / Speculation / Re: Seriously...are you buying at these prices? on: April 01, 2013, 07:56:53 PM
No. Instead I'm buying ASICMINER shares and mining/buying altcoins (mainly LTC, as profitability is awesome right now! http://dustcoin.com/mining)
578  Economy / Securities / Re: [WTS] 204 ASICMINER Shares for 155BTC Total (0.75/share) (SALE PENDING) on: March 30, 2013, 04:49:01 PM
I have received confirmation from friedcat that the shares have been transferred.

This concludes the deal. Thank you all!
579  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin is a ponzi, a pyramid and a pump and dump scheme and crap, too on: March 30, 2013, 02:32:11 AM
I recently got into LTC after being in BTC for 2 years now.

LTC has 2 major differences from BTC: 1) using scrypt instead of SHA256 and 2) 4x the block generation.

LTC is similar enough to BTC to make it trivial for merchants to support both, and different enough in the sense that it is memory intensive and thus favoring GPU mining.

The difference between cryptos a big one because the coming of ASICs in BTC will likely push out GPU mining resulting in more centralized mining operations (and thus the BTC payment network). This in turn can lead to higher fees and security vulnerabilities. (e.g. you just have to raid the ASICMINER datacenter to take control of 20% of the hashing power). LTC will remain more decentralized because of the GPU friendly aspects. This is a good thing. Also if BTC transfer fees are higher than LTC, more people will prefer to use the latter (and vice-versa)

Also I think there is space for multiple crypto currencies, especially after FinCEN. I prefer not to touch fiat in my trades since it makes my tax situation more complicated. Trading between BTC and LTC avoids these issues.

When it comes to price. I do think there is a strong interconnect between difficulty and price. If it becomes too difficult for me to mine I tend to just purchase the coins. For now, I'm mining LTC and am pretty happy about it. I do worry about the lack of developer support though. (the last commit was Dec 2012..)

I'm optimistic about Litecoin. Just as multiple payment processing networks (e.g. Mastercard and Visa) can co-exist. And multiple fiat currencies (EUR, USD, etc.) can co-exist. So can multiple crypto currencies exist, and in fact augment each other.
580  Economy / Securities / Re: [WTS] 204 ASICMINER Shares for 155BTC Total (0.75/share) (SALE PENDING) on: March 29, 2013, 01:38:51 AM
Sorry for the delay in response. I had a bit of running around to do after work. Just got home.

Anyway I can confirm reciept of payment in full. The shares are free to be released. I will send a message as-such to friedcat now to remind him and confirm the ball is rolling on the share transfer.

Thanks for the prompt payment ninjarobot!

Thank you sir. I will update the thread once I have confirmation from friedcat that the shares have transferred successfully.
