561  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ixcoin difficulty estimate at block 20055? on: August 31, 2011, 10:24:29 PM
I don't understand Ixcoin's higher valuation over I0coin, unless it's being propped up by nothing more than speculation.  I mean 96 coins per block (Ixcoin) vs. 48 coins per block (I0coin).  Shouldn't I0coin be 2x what Ixcoin is?  That's why I chose to get out while the gettin was good.  Of course by my action alone it will mean Ixcoin will double to quadruple in value with my luck Tongue

Edit: Woops, I meant 2x, not 3x.

i think iocoin was more sour grapes that ixcoin mined 300k before starting it.  I tried to mine iocoin but could only get 2 connections to the network so I deleted the whole thing.  ixcoin has a website and a forum and some site.  As disclosure I have 1000 ixcoin, of which I brought 800 today.  But, I would like to mine if the difficulty is low enough.  That is what I am trying to figure out.
562  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: solidcoin24 Exchange - No fees, full trading API on: August 31, 2011, 06:37:05 PM
Is there anyway you can fix the site to exchange between solidcoin, ixcoin, iocoin, namecoin,  and bitcoin.  bitcoin could be used as the main coin to trade, but why be prejudice against the other coins?  bitparking is a pain because you have to have a different account for the the different coins.
563  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / ixcoin difficulty estimate at block 20055? on: August 31, 2011, 06:31:52 PM
A new difficulty adjustment algorithm will activate on block 20055.

What will the difficulty be when it hits this?  Seems network is really slow now, but it might be Christmas again if it starts out low.  Bitcoin lovers calling this guy dumb, he was smart enough to see the problem and fix it early.
564  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Fastcoin on: August 31, 2011, 07:14:23 AM
Did you use to work on kanotix?

In an ideal world you could allow the block to grow and grow.  But we live in reality.  bitcoin block and index is pushing 700 mbs right now, and when I load the client it takes a minute before the client pops up.  Takes a long time to catch up to the block chain.  New users might have to wait 12 hours to get the whole chain.  Much of the bitcoin drop is failure to get new people interested in bitcoin.  The reason is who wants to download a block chain that takes 12 hours.    IMHO, bitcoin use has dropped off about 30% from 2 months ago and the block chain is only growing 3 mb per day when it use to grow 5 mb per day.

1 year 2 years or 3 years 5 years does not matter.  The point wallet.dat in bitcoin will in 10 years will be massive, in 50 years it will not be a decentralized currency.   Who is going to download 1 tb to use it?  The idea is we have a mechanism to clean out the block chain easily.  Maybe instead of 1 year it should be 3 years.  If you don't use bitcoin in 3 years you don't deserve to keep them as a store of value.

All you need is an api to connect to any wallet, and you could develop a single app to use any wallet.  It would be fast, and even today if you want a fast bitcoin, you are going to have to accept 0 unconfirmed as payment.  Wallets should be used for most business transactions, as they can also be tracked easily.

In many ways solidcoin does what  I want.  However, bitcoin could be fixed with a 0.1 transaction fee.

Updated.  I want to give ideas to create a small fast sustainable currency.
566  Bitcoin / Mining / AMDOverDriveCtrl mid-level voltage linux on: August 30, 2011, 07:40:41 PM
I have a 6870 card and AMDOverclockCtrl does not allow me to change the voltage on this card.  I tried Radeonvolt without luck.  I would like to use the mid-level settings on the card.  Is there any way to use aticonfig to force the card to use the mid-level settings.  Is there another tool?  Can I use RBE someway to  underclock the voltage?

Thanks

There is stuff on youtube, and Gavin gave a speech.  But, maybe it was not well attended.
568  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Fastcoin on: August 22, 2011, 09:02:04 AM
The purpose of this is to create a fast small decentralized currency.  The bitcoin block chain is growing 100 mb a month.  The idea is that the currency will never be used for business transactions.  It will only be used to fund wallets and be exchanged into other currencies.

1. Blockchain limited to 1 years worth.  All fastcoin older than 1 year old will be deleted (the block chain will be cut). It might be possible to check the blocks and update coins before they are deleted automatically.
2. 1 block found every 2.4 hours is to keep the block chain small as possible and discourage transactions. 10x365=3650 blocks are maximum.
3. Difficulty change every block.
4. All mined coins out in about 1 year, thus coins put out at steady rate.  20,000,000,000 in existence.
5. To cut the creation of fastcoin. All transaction fees mandatory fixed at 3% truncated and rounded up to 1, 100% deleted.  Thus if you do a 100 coin transaction, 3 coins will be the transaction fee.  In hindsight the fees might be logarithmic to prevent attack.
6. Software to determine remaining coins in existence and age of your coins. Coins combined and wallet cleaned updated with every transaction.  A transaction is required to update wallet.
7. Two weeks lead time prior to start.
8. If possible a businesscoin linked to fastcoin with a free exchange built into the client.  businesscoin might have your name address attached to a ledger so all transactions can be tracked openly.
9. Mining software built into the client where everyone submits shares, thus there are no solo or pooled mining.  The client is a big pool.
10. At the end of the year, 2,000,000 put out a year at a constant rate.  This is a 0.01% inflation rate to make up for a small percentage of lost coins.
11. It might be better not to have mining for the 1st year and distribute all coins by bounty.  100 messages on this board might earn you 1,000,000, why waste electricity.

Please send bounty if used. lgpl
569  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: PC just died on: August 22, 2011, 05:50:11 AM
Check if fan came off cpu
Check that video card settings are default.
Check power supply.
Check temps if you can get it started again.  Did you downclock memory.  If you did try it  in another computer.
Check to make sure memory is seated solid.
Check to see if power cable to board is snap on, tug it a little.
Make sure 4/8 pin is attached to mobo.
Check to see if video card is in snug.
Pull memory out and put back in same slot.
570  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ONLINE WALLETS, theft may be a good thing on: August 03, 2011, 05:45:25 PM
I can add bitcoin is slow money, a confirmed transaction can take an hour.   I think the bitcoin should be converted to USD to be used in fast money situations.   Raising the debt ceiling only steals grandmas $100,000 nestegg and about $10,000 a year.  On a daily basis it is less than 1%.  Most of the money supply might be bitcoin, but the fast money your pocket change can be used with the us dollar.
571  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / bitcoin stores are bad for bitcoin / bitcoin atm on: August 03, 2011, 05:39:44 PM
So you go to meze grill and buy a sandwich, to help the economy, I think you are doing more harm than good.  The bitcoin system is too slow to use on less than 5 minute transactions.  If you use a wallet, you are not using bitcoin, you are using a centralize play money site.   Paypal, dwolla, and poker sites are examples of play money sites based in U.S. dollars.

Meze grill is based in dollars.  It is basically an exchange.  You buy a sandwich, he gets the bitcoin, he sells the bitcoin on mt gox to buy lettuce.  The transaction could have gone, you have bitcoin, you sell bitcoin for $, you go to Meze grill and pay in cash.  So meze grill is an exchange, why is that bad?  It is bad because the transaction is small 0.5 BTC.  It is just going to load up the system with small transactions.

Now I love the idea that Meze grill offers to sell bitcoin (maybe buy too not sure).  Thus you go in with $100 and buy 10 BTC.  Thus they are a real exchange.  It just hit me you can easily have a bitcoin atm.  You stick a usb stick in the atm, you put a $100 bill in it, a wallet .dat is added to your usb drive.  You can also sell, put a wallet.dat on the usb drive and out pops some cash.

This just made me think of another idea, bitcoin block chain that holds wallets not bitcoins.  Your wallet is stored on the block chain and a monthly fee is added to your wallet, if your balance goes to zero it is deleted.

I is nice to have hundreds of exchanges.  Thus if one goes down you can use another.  But, I forgot what I wanted to say.  But still like the post so I will fix it or delete it later.

You technically can already.  You can buy meat, jerky, hotels, motels, socks, shirts with bitcoin.  If you own a house you can buy solar panels.

574  Economy / Economics / Re: Bernanke is Wrong - Default will help the economy. on: July 25, 2011, 11:38:23 PM
The fed should conjure up another $15 trillion (sidenote: can you imagine being the guy sitting at the terminal typing in that amount of money to just create?), ship it to treasury, and call it a day. National debt eliminated. At the same time this happens, a balanced-budget (or at least no deficits beyond X% of GDP for X time allowed) amendment should be passed. We'd experience an immediate, one-time inflation of 100%, and that would be that. Any takers?

This would be a bad idea imho.  When the debt becomes due you can just issue new bonds bought by the fed at zero interest.  But, if there is no ceiling increase, Congress could not issue any new bonds as it would increase the debt.  Thus, they would have to cut and as another post said they would choose the program that would give notice by the public, social security.  Social Security is the only government program that sort-of works.  The reason is they government does not spend your money, they just give you cash.  Except for the disability part of the fraud.   Social Security is the only program that will be noticed by the workers.  You could cut medicare and force states like Florida to accept the North Dakota quality of care.

If the bond is say $100 million and when it becomes due issue $100 million in cash, it will not really be the source of the inflation.  The inflation was caused when the bond was first issued, all the new debt minus the debt that is rolled over.

If this makes any sense.  Not increasing the debt ceiling is the same as a balanced budget amendment.

575  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / decentralized wallet. on: July 21, 2011, 10:05:05 AM
This pertains to sites like mybitcoin.com and not wallet.dat.

Is it possible to have a decentralized wallet that uses BTC as a base?  BTC -> DonkeyCoin -> Everybody uses the fast Donkeycoin M1 for shops.  The donkeycoin can be converted into BTC by the user.

BTC is sent to donkeycoin.  Donkeycoin stores the BTC in a block chain.   A new block chain is used for say 1 month, before it is deleted.  The donkeycoin might automatically be sold to BTC temporarily, then the new money lioncoin is created.  Why do this, to keep the block small and fast as possible.

I notice there is a list of the 100 largest wallets.  That gives hope that the block.dat can be cleaned out.  As all the new owners could be placed in a new block and the old block can be ignored.
576  Economy / Economics / Re: Bernanke is Wrong - Default will help the economy. on: July 20, 2011, 10:36:29 AM
The biggest problem with a default is that the ratings agencies will downgrade US Bonds from AAA to AA, and all the world's funds that are, by their own contracts, required to only keep AAA securities, will have to dump all their holdings on the market. The result will be a very severe crash of the USD. Even high interest rates will be meaningless in the face of a crash like that.

Also, don't forget that our chief exports are military hardware and USD. It's the only reason we as a country can buy so much more than we export. Kill off one of those....

All it shows is the danger of having fixed contracts.  If the rating drops and they are forced to sell, individuals may again start to buy the old treasuries at 20-25% effective rate.  The old treasuries will still be out there, and pumping out 6% interest every 6 months.  However, if they are forced to sell the price would drop drastically providing a great buying opportunity.

The new debt issued can be done so at 0.1% interest, and the fed would buy 100% of them.   China and Japan would cease to own debt and just hold the cash.  If the United States continues on the path of 10% deficits, Japan and China will be forced to raise prices, buy commodities, and to buy American goods like they are suppose to be doing anyways.

I am much more scared of keeping things the way they are.
577  Economy / Economics / Bernanke is Wrong - Default will help the economy. on: July 19, 2011, 08:27:49 AM
Last Friday Bernanke was on the hill claiming if we hit the debt ceiling and default on our debt, it will be disaster for the financial markets.   Mr. Bernanke also mentioned they buy most of the federal debt.  So if we default on the debt, will interest rates rise?  Yes, but for a good reason.

After default, congress tells the fed to buy all treasuries at ZERO percent interest.   Basically it is Bill Stills dream.   Congress would be in complete control of the money supply, not the fed and banks.

What will happen is saving and checking accounts would be higher than the t-bond rate.   Basically treasury debt would cease to exist.  The fed would not receive the 6% profit on the debt interest they bought with nothing. Thus everyone will have to compete on an equal basis for credit.

I ahave a pci ->pci/e adapter and it works.  However, I am using it on a biostar via c7 fanless motherboard viotech 3100+ I think.  I am having problems from which I don't believe is the adapter, but from the cpu.  I can still squeak out 500 mh/s from it at 400 watts.  But, I was hoping for good perfomance and It is not.  linuxcoin does not work, unless there is some option in start-up I have to set in us 32 bit?.  Only 1 core. 1600 mhz.

6950 2.59 mh/J 328 mh/s
6870 2.85 mh/J 246 mh/s

How did you get these numbers? Did you measure cards individually?

I have the base of 98 watts turn one card on write watts, turn card off and turn other card on write watts.  subtract 98 from them and (mh/s)/watts = mh/J.  so I don't measure individually and I am not 100% of my baseline because it was once 86 watts.  I am amazed the slight lower voltage really cuts the watts.  I know I can do better.
