561  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [Mining OS] SimpleMining.net - Easy to use GPU MINING Operating System on: March 18, 2017, 05:34:45 PM
Hey Tytanick,

I tried SimpleMiningOS today on a system with the following configuration :

Asrock H81 Pro BTC V2
Intel G1840
Corsair DDR3 4GB
Liteon 64GB SSD
Corsair RM1000X
6 X Sapphire RX 470 4GB on V006 Risers

And here's my feedback :

Takes too long to boot : The OS takes a while to load at each boot, much longer than windows for me (could be because its booting of a usb pendrive)
Headless mode does not work : With Onboard display enabled it will boot into the OS, but you lose the ability to change Clocks/Fanspeed or the DPM undervolting. The Settings appear to apply but no change in power consumption or performance. Booting with Onboard Display disabled, and no HDMI connected does not work just like in windows (but that's a problem with the board I guess)
Etherium hashing slower than Windows : Hashrates I see on 8.1 in SimpleminingOS are about ~2% lower than what I get in windows. Didn't check other altcoins yet.

Overall I love the amount of control that the dashboard offers and will be migrating all my non ProBTC based rigs to SimpleOS. The ProBTC rigs however, will stay on windows because of the above issues.
562  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GPU >Help with RX on: March 18, 2017, 04:28:24 PM
Hi guys!

I wont to start mining with gpu so whats the good to start with , msi rx480 4G , or , msi rx480 8G , and whats The difference between them in the process.

Thanks .

Lower memory in itself has no impact on m ining performance, but the 4GB variants usually come with slower clocked memory than the 8GB variants which reduces performance in some algos.

The MSI RX480 4GB can do a maximum of 28 mh/s
The MSI RX 480 8GB can do a maximum of 31mh/s
The MSI RX470 4GB can do a maximum of 28 mh/s as well, so that is the most cost effective option

Getting to those maximum values though is the tricky part. Browse through the forums and you will find several guides. Happy mining.

I see at least a couple people have written strap decoding programs, but I can't find publicly released.  I was going to write one and release it publicly, but I figured if someone else has already written one...

I haven't seen a publicly available program yet, would be great if you could do that man Smiley

H61?  weird all I have is H81

Is that just an older chipset because that looks exactly like R1 of H81 board

Yes, the H61 was the first True BTC board built by Asrock. Then came the H81.
565  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Are you the best PandaMiner reviewer we are looking for? on: March 17, 2017, 02:44:21 PM
Kinda disappointing with the price. I was hoping the move from RX480 8GB modules to RX470D 4GB modules would reduce costs significantly.
Maybe I was being naive but I was hoping for a $1500 tag. Especially since you can build an 8 card system for ~$1700 albeit in a much larger frame/case, but that has its own advantage of resellability/upgradability.

1)the reason why should pick you and

The reason you should pick me is because I have been the number 1 mining gear reseller in my country ( New Zealand), I have the number plate "MINERS", I have helped sell over 1000 baikal units

2)how you can make a perfect review of PandaMiner GEN II.

I will make the perfect review by getting my gorgeous girlfriend to do a video review in lingerie, you will all love it.....

LOL... looking forward to your promotional video  Cheesy

Just to be completely clear here.

Before others start to fly and think they can undervolt..

0 - 7 are the DPM stages for the core clock.

You don't undervolt, you just set your core differently on a specific dpm stage.

As an example.

Open up polarisbioseditor, you'll see that there are 8 stages for the core clock. 0 -> 7

As you can see here, on the left you have the preset core clock settings and on the right you have the voltage settings.
300Mh being the only one with a preset voltage offset.
The other 7 will be auto calculated by the GPU. (By adding Global VDDC Offset in the rom, this can be manipulated).

What happens here isn't really "Undervolting", the only thing that does happen is that driverwise the core clock of a specific dpm stage is being modified, therfore the voltage remains the same as it was previously on that specific dpm stage.

So you are basically forcing a specific core clock to run on a specific voltage.

It's like this example:

Which is

1. Definitely not stable in most cases as it's not being autocalculated anymore.
2. Not how it "should" be.

It's a way, i'm pretty sure it'll work okish, but i'm also very sure, if you start messing around to much, your gpu's will fail.

That's the difference between forcing voltage or adding a global vddc offset in the rom where the voltage controller starts calculating from a lower voltage offset.

Just to be very clear here, it is "not" possible to really "undervolt". This can only be achieved in the rom itself.

Oh and for the Fans, or better, the haters, i'm not bashing anything here, i'm just writing down facts.

Greetings!

Hey Heliox (kinda sounds like Hail Hydra Cheesy )
Quick question : isn't this the same as using a windows tool like watttool to set clocks and volts at each boot?
568  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Buy cards now or wait? on: March 16, 2017, 06:45:45 PM
The RX570/RX580 are supposed to be priced slightly lower than RX470/RX480 MSRP's but we know how long it took for these cards to be available at even the MSRP, let alone cheaper.
That, coupled with the fact that the new cards will just be re-brands with a 3% increase in core and 5% increase in memory clocks, means there's ZERO benefit in waiting for the newer cards.
If you have the money to buy now, just buy now while the cards are cheap. You will have made almost 20% of the cards cost by the time the new ones show up in retail.
569  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Pcie 1 to 3 Port 1X Switch Multiplier HUB Riser. Which motherboard works. on: March 16, 2017, 11:17:03 AM
I'm curious if this custom solution will work with 8GB cards, or only with 4GB cards?

Its a custom solution that would work with ANY card, could be future Vega 12GB cards as well.
570  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Rig badwidth usage on: March 15, 2017, 07:17:48 PM

Beyond the convenience for rig management, it also could save few $ in lan ralated stuff (still have to check feasibility)

I would recommend you look at the Simple Rig resetter made and sold by Tytanick in the threads here, especially if you plan to scale your farm up, as his device can manage 8 systems for an asking price of $95 or $12 per system, and if you scale up from there, the cost per system can go down to under $8 per system.
571  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 20 GPU - opan air case - no risers - 5 motherboards on: March 15, 2017, 03:52:06 PM
hey all,

I am working on a new project

thanks to phill for showing me the biostar boards that have 4 x 16pcie slots

this project I think could look quite nice set up. it involves 6 individual rigs one on each level, nice and tidy if you ask me.

I am looking to sell these "cases" if anyone is interested

right now I am gauging interest atm, let me know what you all think

My two cents : I assume the depth of each rack would be 300mm atleast. Then for 300mm x 500mm x 925mm this is too inefficient in terms of space utilization.
Also I would recommend some kind of support for the GPU's mounting bracket to take some of their weight off the motheboard.
I am working on a rack design inspired from the 4U cases for my home setup, will share pics later.

Also, for sharing pics, just right click on the imgur pic and open it in a new tab, that will get you a direct link, you need to paste the direct link here for it to work.
572  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Please advice on which card should I use on: March 15, 2017, 03:44:13 PM
XFX Radeon RX 480 4GB
it is best

I first said that but the sapphire has 8gb
Thanks, and is it worth it buying a 8gb instead of 4gb as here the price difference is big?

With all of these cards, the 4GB is running at 1750 mem clocks. The 8GB is running at 2000 mem clocks.
For some altcoins, Ethereum for example, that results in a 10-15% increase in performance and greater power efficiency. Since the price difference is small, the Sapphire RX 480 8GB looks like a good buy. Also Sapphire is the best when it comes to RMA warranty claims.
I personally only buy the cheapest RX 470 4GB cards as I find them to be the best value for money. If you can get them for under $230, then those would be the best option.

574  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: RX 470 / GTX 1060 / RX 480 / GTX 1070 on: March 15, 2017, 02:30:05 PM
How much power supply do I need?

How much each amd 480 need?

The specs say that it needs 500 w power supply. Do AMD 480 need 500 w power supply or just 100 w power supply each? If I have 6 AMD 480 how much power supply would I need? What about disk? Do you use SSD or HD?

Ram? is 4GB of CPU ram enough?

No 480 needs just above 150W / card, 470 is 120W i guess, I m not sure pls check. But a 1200W Gold/Platinum should be good for 470 if you mining Zcash. Eth is more power hungry.

The RAM doesnt matter, 4 GB is enough. I run a system at even 2, and it does fine.

HDD, again you just need to run the OS, if you running Windows just get a 16 GB Flash, the cheapest option. A linux can even run on even 8GB.

When mining at full speed at stock settings, an RX 480 can consume upto 200W, and an RX 470 can consume 160W. If you are going to go the Windows route, and underclock/undervolt your cards, then target consumption of 120W per card with tweaks. If you are going to go with linux, unless you get a custom ROM made by someone else, your cards will consume 150W so plan accordingly. It is recommended to have a 20% power capacity buffer on the power supply, so for a system consuming 1000W, get a 1200W PSU.

Also, RAM does matter, go for 4GB as that is a good price performance balance, the smaller your system ram is the more the paging file is used, and it results in frequent swaps and stale shares sometimes.

As for the HDD, if you are using a plug and play OS like EthOS or SimpleMiningOS, then get a 16gb SSD. If you are using Windows, get a 64GB SSD minimum as you need to allocate 16GB to paging file which you can not do on a 32GB SSD.

@ deadsix - If you can return the MB, do so.  This MB is a pain in the a$$ and BIOSTAR support sucks.  I've only tried 4 MB out of my 15 and issues I've seen is enough for me to smash them.   For Mining the Biostar TB85 is good.  Cheap, no fuss and everything is fully detected by Windows / SimpleOS, no network driver or anything needed.  There's money left over to buy sexy LEDs to wrap around it.  =)

regarding the biostar yes, tb85 has almost 0 to none issues, perfect bang for buck mining mobo. i'll be getting a batch of tb250 lga 1151, in abt 3 weeks or so. i might get few for myself to try it out, rest are for custom rig orders.

happy mining.

Hey guys, wanted to ask you both, have you tried running the TB85 board headless with RX470/480 cards? Is it free of the issues that the Asrock H81 ProBTC V2 have like not booting with onboard vga turned off, or unability to change clocks/fanspeed etc with onboard vga turned on?
576  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: LGA 1151 motherboard suggestion on: March 14, 2017, 07:35:41 PM
Biostar TB250 BTC motherboard, hard to find, but coming soon to NA and Europe, availible already in south east asia in offline retail.
577  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: THIS IS THE GOLDEN AGE FOR GPU MINING on: March 13, 2017, 04:02:42 PM
waiting with baited breath for 8 RX 470 4GB variant that is much cheaper
578  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Just a few questions from a mining noob! on: March 13, 2017, 03:59:37 PM
Thanks for going through it. So I buy 3 Radeon RX 470s i should be making 91.90$ a month not including pool fees? But then why have I heard so many people saying mining is no longer profitable when with less than 1000$ of equipment you can make over 90$ a month?

Because negativity.
Also, you can get your RX 470's to hash at a higher 27-28 per card, and reduce wattage from 150 to 120W per card with tweaks. You have the basics right, figure out the more complicated stuff, and mining is pretty profitable.
579  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: rig 7 gpu ? on: March 13, 2017, 03:56:39 PM
Hello

Of people among you who have a rig with 7 gpu on motherboard?

I would like to ride a rig with the asrock btc pro, but out of stock,

I saw this motherboard with 7 pci-e, but I wonder if it will be stable.

https://www.asus.com/fr/Motherboards/H81GAMER/

your opinion ?

thx

This board has 1 PCIe 16x slot, 3 PCIe 1x slots, and 3 regular PCI slots which are useless. So this board can run a total of 4 cards maximum.
580  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Can mining altcoins be profitable on a gaming PC? on: March 13, 2017, 11:36:38 AM
I am completely in the dark when it comes to mining and am quite new to cryptocurrencies in general. But was wondering if it is possible to still make some money on my PC.

I believe mining mostly uses GPU, and if so, would a radeon R9 390X be sufficient to make it worth the effort?

(P.S. I have it overclocked and watercooled as well if that would make a difference) and im paying just under 12 cents/Kwh.

The R9 390x is a beast on the Zcash algo. Download claymores miner from this forum and mine away. Do not forget to underclock and undervolt your card because it will be running 24/7 and power efficiency matters (you dont need the 390X overclocked, even for gaming, that is serious overkill).
