I have done a mistake presuming that a 7 PCI-E board would take 6 GPUs and got the MSI Z170A KRAIT GAMING 3X  Angry along with G3930 CPU and 2X4GB HyperX DDR4.

Please advice what board should I get to still be able to use the RAM and CPU with 6 RX470s.

Why on earth someone would build a 7 slot PCI-E board which cannot run more than 3 at a time  Huh

Thanks

very few z170's do 5 or 6 cards

I will have a build on the cheaper z270  by thurs if you wait.

the z270s will use your ram if it is ddr4  they will use your cpu if it is an:

 intel
i3 6xxx
i5 6xxx
i7 6xxx

or a g4400

I am putting an intel i5 6400t  in my new board.

Update bios to last version. Enable in bios "4G Decoding" and you'll run all 7 GPUs on this mobo

did you ever see a full size rx 470 card what u can plug in straight to the PCIe 3.0 x1 slot on your motherboard ?

That mobo you mentioned have 3 x PCIe 3.0 x16 slots (support x16/x0/x4 or x8/x8/x4 modes) and 4 x PCIe 3.0 x1 slots

Those pci-e slots are not designed to run 7 vga cards at full speed , those slot are designed to accept  few VGA card (3 x PCIe 3.0 x16 slots) , with single , sli or AMD CrossFire configuration , and another PCI Add-on Cards or Extension Cards (4 x PCIe 3.0 x1 slots) Smiley

Reviving old post.

I have MSI Z170A KRAIT GAMING 3X, updated bios, tried your suggestions but still can't get more than 4 GPU's working. 2x4GB RAM, 6x Gigabyte G1 RX 470 4G, G3900, W10, quality risers.

Anyone else have this motherboard? 5+ GPUs?
