okay so 500 + 500 + 330 =

1330 mhs

you burn about
2kwatts

2 x 24 = 48 or 50 kwatts a day

at 20 cents = 10.00 usd
at 15 cent =    7.50 usd
at 10 cent =    5.00 usd
at   9 cent =    4.50 usd
at  8 cent =      4.00 usd
at  7 cent =      3.50 usd
at  6 cent =      3.00 usd

if you mine at viabtc 1330 mhs = 1.33 gh which is  1.33 x 0.01158 ltc = 0.0154 ltc a day

and 2000 x 0.0154 ltc = 30.8 doge

31 x .0773 = $2.40
.0154 x 65.77 = $1.01

so they earn $3.41 a day before power cost

so if you are at 8 cent power or higher you are losing money

I would advise you to mine solo 1 day a week and shut the gear off the other six days if your power cost is over 10 cents.

I would advise you to mine a steady pool 6 days in a row then mine solo for 1 day if your power cost is 8-10 cents

if your power is 7 cents or less I would mine the steady pool every day except for the 1st of the month mine solo on that day.

Well the problem is the printer was here all of 2022.

They were printing money for all Long Term Care insurance companies.
They were printing money for all social security benefits.
They were printing money for all I savings bond holders.
They were printing money for all TSP holding the G-Fund.

Do the math for the above and the money already dished out to the people above is remarkably close to 1.7 trillion dollars.

But the mass media did not talk much about the above.

Oh in 2023 all of the above are still on schedule for more more more.

1) Now as an I bond holder - nice
2) as an 401Tsp g fund holder - nice
3) as a social security beneficiary starting in 2023- nice
4) as the caretaker of the owner of a Long term care policy - nice
5) as the husband to a person that has a federal pension getting 8% raise - nice

as a BTC miner - not nice
as a BTC holder - not nice
as a guy trying to be like JJG Just DCA - neutral to nice.

All of the above illustrates why hedging is okay to do.

Only USA people can do the I-Bonds
So do some 1 a month for 100
and DCA at least 100 a month for your BTC

or just complain that the telegraphed moves by the fed suck even when they are easy to hedge.

Am I fortunate that I get a benefit from all 5 listed not really.

1)It means I live in the USA - lucky I guess not sure

2)It means my wife's 401 tsp never got big stock gains last 10 years.
3)It means I am older (66 in 30 days)
4)It means my bro-in-law is really sick (dementia)
5)It means my wife is getting older 67 in 3 months

As for 2-5 I rather be 35 years old and working hard as long as I was with my wife.

Oh to all of W.O

Merry
Christmas!

I will open this in January of 2023.

Edit:

Opened this a few hours ago.

I quoted this at 12/07/2023 10:20 pm set

Alas V2 is, by definition, transaction bias.

Not allowing all transactions in the blockchain is a very bad idea for the free open bitcoin transaction system.

Mara pool tried doing this and stopped because of the obvious expected backlash.

Not sure why anyone would want to promote this.

It doesn't give you more blocks on the blockchain, it allows you to do 2 things:
1) Remove transactions "you don't like" = transaction bias
2) Put cheaper transactions in your blocks = devalue bitcoin and get less reward mining

I highly suggest everyone to avoid this.

Okay with crazy high tx numbers that we have now. could this set the bar higher?

Ie no fee under 400 sats a byte when fees are high and it cherry picks higher  by 50 %  would it be more likely to get a block with 3 btc in fees while a non biased one would be more likely to get a block with 2 btc in fees as it allows for low fees.

In my example above it would appear on the surface that he would hit fatter feed blocks.

Or am I simply wrong.

BTW if I am right his method is only good when fees are high.

right now if you set 120 sats as your cut off and I set no cutoff leaving it alone does he  hit higher fees  then the open non biased pool

I think he wants to leave that impression that his way results in bigger fees.

and I am asking is that true or false?

Houston (TX, USA) weather:

Dec 15: 71F (21.7C).
Dec 23: 17.6F (-8C). A crazy temp drop during just 12 hr, multiple power outages, but no system-wide outage this time. My home lost power for about 12hr (I cannot install nat gas automatic generator due to some bs with zoning requirements-will try to force next year regardless, screw warranty).
Dec 28: 77F (25C)<-predicted

This is the CRAZIEST weather ever. I don't know what is causing it, but if it continues, it would be trouble.

Re early 2023 in bitcoin: we shall see if it would develop like in 2018 to 2019 OR 2014 to 2015 or something new entirely.
Imho, chances are 45%, 35%, 20%, respectively.

Right, what could it be, its like happening worldwide, almost like global something something or some such thing?

Guess its just too complicated for anyone to figure out, really wish someone had warned us this was coming

You know the Greenland meltdown is getting quicker maybe it melts out in 20 years and raises sea levels 20 feet. That should be even to get some real push at fusion reactor power.
5646  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Do you think that Bitcoin is more worth buying than the ASICs? on: December 24, 2022, 01:49:12 AM
The key is zero debt and cheap power.

I have cheap power and zero debt..

Guess what I am making far less than 2021.

Our gpu's used to earn 9000 a month with me getting 25% this was 2250 a month
Our gpu's earn 700 a month with me getting 25% that is only  180 a month

Our LTC/Doge used to earn 11000 a month with my share 2200 a month
it now earns 4000 a month  with my share 800 a month

I won't reveal BTC numbers

but they are down.

If I had debt I would go broke. As it is my alt coins dropped from 4450 a month to 980 a month

New pandemic could alter it.
Greenland Ice caps melting out in a super speed raising the seas 20 feet in 90 days would also change my predictions
Putin dying Russia leaving and admitting full guilt by pointing finger at Putin could alter it.

So many other outside macro events could alter use fed plan of hiking until the April- June time frame. the list gos on.

I don't get this kind of thing, Texas is full of gas and oil and relies on electricity for heating, we don't have gas and oil and we rely on gas for heating, and in Siberia, they rely mainly on central heating having entire towns not connected to the gas network.
Who planned this s***!

So, before the blast hits, after Core declared bankruptcy,  Greenidge is next in line, NYDIG will basically purchase 2/3 of their machine and give them some extra money till next year, turning them from a mining farm to almost a hosting company and they will probably get suspended from NASDAQ too as they shares have gone well beyond $1 to 25 cents, from $18 a year ago.

Quote
Under the deal, which is currently in the form of a non-binding term sheet, NYDIG will purchase 2.8 exahash per second (EH/s) worth of Greenidge's bitcoin mining machines, and extinguish $57 million to $68 million of the debt. That will leave Greenidge with 1.2 EH/s of machines, and the miner will also pledge the rest of its unencumbered assets to secure the rest of the loan, which will be somewhere between $6 million to $17 million.

And mentioning Core, how nice of them, even being bankrupt they still plan to help:

I think the bigger problem with ERCOT is that as an ISO, it is isolated from other grid interconnections.

Pros and cons to isolating from rest of country last year we saw a shit ton of cons'   And the leadership should have been jailed for failing to cold proof the systems.

they were not jailed so it got cold lets see if they fixed their shit.

In every case it allows the powers to be to freeze out well over 60% of its people. SO it seems pretty well planned to me.

I would guess you can have 5 or more acres and two large propane tanks. This allows you a 2 year supply of fuel.

It allows means you have a nice explosion risk with that much propane.

Fireplaces can be helpful in an emergency. It is pretty easy to store a few cords of wood. Even if you only have a 1/2 acre of land you can store a lot of cut wood.

If someone wants to listen to macro story:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EI_M4o2mrs8

F. Zulauf is amazing, I wish i listened more to him at the end of last year.
He used to be Barron's round table member for decades.
However, they did not discuss bitcoin, just stonks and bonds.

From their discussion: Fed will probably pivot in Q2 and it will be risk-on in the second half of 2023, but before that-recession and earnings decline.
I figure, end of Q1-early Q2 might be a perfect time to buy pretty much everything, including bitcoin.
However, they predict that this would be just a cyclical rally with more interest rates jump in 2024 into 2025.

Likely correct they will pivot say mid may but rates will rise again down the road.

Juggling interest rates in a way that  the multi trillion dollar long term care industry can survive means higher rates for a while.

by moving them up in late jan 50 bp and mid march 50bp then one last bump in very early may say 25 bp

LTC funds will get much more stable..

Pause rates in late june and august to assess the various finances of other companies .

of course the Ukraine 🇺🇦 vs Russia 🇷🇺 conflict could alter shit radically.

lots of variables  there.

...
The theft or loss of pool funds is not the miners' responsibility.
Miners pay a 1.5% administration fee in exchange for the administration of the pool and its processes.
...
Interesting ... the last pool to lose a block (which was the administration's fault)
members of the community paid him to continue running the pool when he wanted to quit Smiley

IIRC He paid the guy the coin owed and was depressed did not want to do it again. We encouraged him to stay.

The operation of this pool is not offering to pay the top guy his 6 btc.

It is a bit different set of circumstances.
5653  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 22, 2022, 07:19:15 PM
Government passes a hugely inflationary spending bill and we're heading down? Logic.

people want high fed rates for their bonds.

If you have $$$ and get a five year bond at 3.71% they are betting rates go up and they will stagger up.

Ie buy a five year today at 3.71
buy a 5 year in six weeks at 4.20
buy a 5 year in 12 weeks at 4.71
buy a 5 year in 18 weeks at 5.21

then hope for pivot.

you are loaded up for next 5 years with rates between 3.71 and 5.21

and the USD is the best dollar token there is.

This does not attract a guy without $$$

but if you have $$$ it looks like a good play.

5655  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Investing in solar power and miners on: December 22, 2022, 04:17:45 PM
Hi,

I am thinking of investing about value equivalent to 1BTC at today's price 16.K in a dedicated solar power panels at my roof and use the energy produced for mining bitcoins.
If I buy second hand miners with 200TH hash power included in the package, how I would calculate time of investment return?

   -   As per my understanding of what you are saying, you want to mine bitcoin, using solar power to generate electricity when you mine Bitcoin? Why is electricity expensive in the country you are in or is electricity consumption cheap there? If you have a solar power panel you can somehow save on your electricity cost.

Not really, imagine the start up cost of building a solar panel.  It will cost you thousands of dollar more just like stated on the earlier reply.  Then you have to buy a second hand miner, at least according to the computation you can have a ROI at the shortest time of  2 years (according to joniboini) and longest of 11 years (according to  philipma1957).  That is not factoring the possibility of the solar panel or the miner malfunction during the operation which may turn to worst thing of not getting ROI at all.

Because from the tone of your story mate, it seems that you have an idea that the cost of electricity is also expensive when we mine bitcoin, this is if you first buy the surplus miners that are sold to you. But my suggestion to you, is don't get into that if you don't have enough knowledge about bitcoin mining.

The OP had realized that buying Bitcoin is financially better option for him.

So much depends on the power company and if you can grid tie at fair offset rates.

Our largest field for mining does 280kwatts.

we burn 60 and offset 220. We do 5-6 hours a day yeah days last 19-15 hours in New Jersey but first 2 and last 2 hours are lower. So it comes to 5-6 hours depending on season.

So 5.5 year round. thus 5.5 x 230 = 1210 offset.

and 24-5.5 = 18.5 x 60 = 1110 pay back when it is "dark" So we gain 1265-1110 = 155  kwatts a day. this means  mining the gear is negative cost of 155 kwatts which is squared up on April of each year. The warehouse complex use other power so that 155 is spent.

this was an 800,000 build with a 27% tax credit from Feds first year. so 800,000x.73 = 584,000  after 1 year.

and state of NJ offers addition credits  of 10% so 584,000-80,000= 504,000 after first year.

you still get the 10% from NJ for 9 more years so 80,000 x 6 = 480,000 . thus in year 7  504,000- 480,000 = 24,000 on the loan.

This does not count the mining this does not count interest on the loan for the build. they are close to the same. unless there is a bull run.

So by year 7. the loan is done to 24,000 you still have 3 NJ credits coming for a grand total 240,000 over 3 years.

The gear is insured and warrantied.

But this is small scale commercial and it is good for NJ, USA as NJ has good programs for solar.

5657  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will The FED pivot? on: December 22, 2022, 04:56:10 AM
Well I am not the dullest tool in the shed or the sharpest.

As you can see there is a website devoted to clocking the possibilities of going bankrupt for long term care companies.

I never would have thought to apply it to clock fed rates.

I found it last year when my brother in law got sick.

I used it because I was checking on genworth to figure out if my brother-in-law would be able to keep collecting his long term care insurance.

As I kept checking it the bankruptcy dropped from 45% to 32% and the company became more solvent. In time with the fed rate increases.

Did my research an realized close to three trillion in value is held by long term care companies in usa.

In the last year the industry has recovered 15% in value.  about 450 billion in value gained.

I am sure others check that website to figure out the health of insurance companies like genworth.

The are smart and skilled at guessing the when companies become safer or safe from going bankrupt.

From what I can see these companies could use till June and keep loading up better bonds.

I lean to The June date not the April date for the fed to pivot.

So I believe rally could start in April-May time frame as a response to guessing pivot starts in June.

Lots of outside factors can make all of that wrong.
ie Ukraine 🇺🇦 vs Russia 🇷🇺 has a sudden turn.

Ukraine wins Putin dies Russia gives all of Ukraine back = monster rally.
Ukraine loses Putin becomes more powerful = big ass slump
Ukraine and Russia drags on for a few more years sideways sideways sideways.

not sure where to post this. but all three of my miners crashed and won't restart.

anyone have this issue?

I have them in different spots.  about 3 miles apart so I do not think it is an internet issue.

Found issue

this pool was dead

us-grin.2miners.com:3030

moved to this pool below:

us2.grin.herominers.com:1125

all is well

I also updated from 2.49 firmware to 2.52 version

No issues for me on 2miners... been mining with them since I received the units from the group buy.

Any idea what the new firmware adds / fixed? I was thinking about upgrading a couple of weeks ago, but decided against it as miners have been pretty good so far.

my pool issue may have been an optimum provider internet issue.

it is working now. i am pointing two miners to the newer pool and one to the old one.

as for 252 vs 249 firmware I have two on 2.49 and one on 2.52 seem close to the same.
5659  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will The FED pivot? on: December 21, 2022, 10:34:36 PM
As I have said in multiple posts the fed has found a way to bail out all the USA long term care polices.

How simple raise rates.

If you realize just how much the long term care companies were in the hook back in Jan 2022

and how much they recovered in one year it is pretty obvious that they will continue to boost bond yields which are pretty much the only thing long time care policies invest in.

my brother in law has dementia. he has a policy with genworth a major long term care policy company.

they were rated to have a 45% shot of going bankrupt december 2021
they are now rate to have a 32% shot of going bankrupt december 2022.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5430871.msg61478856#msg61478856

read this post and you can see how poorly genworth did with low bond interest the 2019 to 2021 time frame

read how they did 2021 to 2022 with high bond rates.

hint they went from 99 billion to 114 billion

there are 14 companies like them.

all were next to dead december 2021.

all are coming back due to the feds actions in 2022.

I see at least two more hikes to continue to help the ltc industry.

maybe four hikes.

If you check the top long term care company ratings and compare dec 2021 to 2022 you can see this was a huge bailout for them.

btw.  these rates are a huge bailout for federal workers starting jan 2023 and social security payouts.

they will likely not stop.

keep checking on genworth at this website

https://www.macroaxis.com/invest/ratio/GNW/Probability-Of-Bankruptcy

I suspect that rates will rise and improve their bottomline for as much as June 2023 .

Keep in mind there are about 14 companies that are like genworth and everyone of them is getting this “help”

so maybe april but likely june  we flip.
