I no longer think bitcoin needs my help dispelling rumor and myth. Let them talk all they want, you and are going out partying. With bitcoin of course.

I still don't get what the point of this is
Perhaps he is hedging against the highly unlikely possibility that some sort of coin tracking is used in the future. In that case the "taint' of a coin may change it's value compared to a "clean" coin. But again, almost no one wants this and I can't see it happening.

The article is borderline lying. Read the actual bankruptcy filing, and it states that while the theft occurred on the 7th, they didn't discover it until the 24th.
While they may have known sooner, the "anonymous email sources" are not telling the truth about what Mt. Gox stated in their filing.
+1 Why do people believe an unnamed source without even checking his/her facts? It must be related to not believing a credible source that differs from their opinion. Let's just keep our pants on and wait for the trial. You can't just spew crap in a courtroom. Every statement will be checked out and if not true, punishments will be handed down.

Sorry to hear that man. Thieves suck.

Inviting constructive criticism, please dont post one line replies that hold no meaningful points.
Like the title of the thread? But seriously, you should search before posting. Your assertion has been made many times before and fully refuted by the fact that bitcoin is breaking out of it's shell. And has been for years now.

Great for cashing out your Dirham before leaving the country! sweet.

I would re-balance my investment portfolio to include post-apocalypse blue chip stocks such as slaves, ammunition and canned goods.

The most likely, logical and simple explanation is normally the right one. Who could have done this? The crew seems most likely to me; I see why they are focusing on this theory. Someone started shutting down comms with the outside world then drove off with a plane making no demands or claims. It must surely be in the ocean, right? You would need a big airstrip to land that pig, and I can't see that going unnoticed. I think the pilot (or other crew) planed this out as part of a disturbed suicide. What an screwed-up thing to do.

Whether the information TBI had is incriminating enough or not, he should stick to his word and release it. By chickening out, whatever accusations he makes in the future will not have any credibility.
Future credibility? Let's see he released a "leaked" Gox document that turned out to be fake. Then he accused the foundation of corruption and failed to produce any evidence. Then he claimed to have a meeting with Satoshi and that never happened... What past credibility did he have? The document itself is likely to be fake, the information is not. There is strong evidence it was created with inside information coming from the Bitcoin foundation. Mark said himselsf the document was "so so" about its truth, Foundation already knew of everything( and did not warn anyone btw ). So just the origin is fake. What Mark said was that the info was basically a close guess. Of course it was fake, it looked like a 3rd. grader made it. You say "the foundation knew everything". Could you be more specific? Who do you mean and what did they know? I would be interested to know what you know that the rest of us do not.

I believe activity gets updated only once a week, or perhaps every two weeks.
I think that's right.

Such a thing could be implemented, but I can't see it being accepted by a majority of peer nodes. My opinion is that we should not monkey with the code to accommodate human nature. If someone can't get their head around the fact that price is irrelevant then they should trade beenie babies instead.
The attitude of "if you're not smart enough, then f@#k you" is not the way to go. If you want Bitcoin to be successful then it's going to need to be made easier for people. I think we need to unify around using mBTC instead of BTC, that's the simpler solution compared to a "stock split" type option. We may need to split eventually, but it most likely won't be necessary for a long time. But isn't worldwide acceptance the ultimate goal? Don't we want total saturation? If this is to be accomplished, then the protocol has to be presented in a way that is easier to digest for the average non-tech person.
Trying to explain to my wife that there are 100million satoshis in a Bitcoin. And that you can buy and send .001 bitcoin, which we are now calling a millibit is a disaster.
I wasn't clear there. I'm not writing those people off. I think the technology will spawn user friendly applications that anyone can use. But I don't think it's effective to teach some people how the protocol works. Kinda like the internet before the Netscape browser. You could connect via command line, but it was not something that many people could do. It took new tools rather learning for most users.

They drives me crazy, but it's not my world. I think haters should be allowed to talk also. Anyone who trades based on their ideas is likely to fail miserably and may well blame bitcoin for their actions. So what, freedom is the right to make bad choices also.

1. All transactions are recorded in the blockchain, a sort of "ledger". My understanding is that when a transaction is made, your client will see it in the blockchain and tell you you have received BTC.
That's right. Assuming your client is synced with the bitcoin network. You can also go to http://blockchain.info/ and search by address or transaction ID. A searchable copy of the blockchain can be found there.

Except that we are not interested in telling people what they can and can't do with their money. Bitcoin was not designed as a speculative financial instrument, but you can try doing it anyway.
The news is full of statements of the foundation as its members as if it were an investment. Period. And if the foundation was legit they would tell, just tell, people what they can and can't do with it. No country tolerates speculation with its currency for obvious reasons, bitcoin should be no different. I'm a speculator myself, but anything that has the intention of representing bitcoin can't be or have members who are. Ok then. I command you to stop speculating! But seriously, no one can or should make rules about what you do with your money. That would never fly at the foundation.
