Yes, BitInstant is a stellar service which can be used by new people to get money into bitcoin, but this would be even cheaper (and faster?) especially for larger amounts
Are you sure you want to accept traceable USDs for a service like this?

if I sell the stock on GLBSE, the asset holders are the ones entitled to the dividends.
Heh, ... so you'll be getting the 1099 for the dividends (and for the proceeds for when you sell the AAPL shares also)?

From edd: Subject: New Owners! Date: June 10, 2012 – 5:50 pm
As some of you may have heard, BioMike has handed over the reins of Operation Fabulous to myself (edd) and maplesyrupghost of bitcointrading.com. While we haven’t been intentionally secretive, we haven’t made an official announcement yet regarding how each of us will be involved in running the site either, and I’d like to rectify that today.
BioMike will continue on as a technical advisor and will maintain a stake in the business.
Maplesyrupghost and I will be responsible for the direction and actions of Operation Fabulous and may be reached via the Contact Page.
We all have some exciting ideas for the future of OpFab and its role in the Bitcoin Economy, so stay tuned for more announcements in the days and weeks ahead! - http://opfab.net/new-ownersThe problem is, in trying to contact them, submitting on the Contact Page gives: Failed to send your message. Please try later or contact the administrator by another method.

I'm not seeing it. We're probably in for another multi-month slump, at best.
That's fine ... those make for weekend dip opportunities. (Never did get a chance to buy back under $5 after the last weekend dip indicator showed green).

Normally these announcements are posted on the Bitcoin.org news as well. Just a reminder, in case that step just happened to get overlooked. - http://bitcoin.org/news.html

Given that Bitcoin transactions take a few hours how does someone pay for something like an ice cream that requires the payment up front before the goods are handed over?
Presumably, they accept at 0-confirmation. Ya, let's hope there was nobody attempting any race attacks or Finney attacks. In the lab the success rate of an attack is pretty good (unless the merchant takes proper precautions) so this could have been a bad user experience for some merchants. This is a catch-22 problem that is going to need some attention. How does a small / mom and pop accept bitcoin (e.g., on mobile or tablet) yet lessen the vulnerability to race attacks and finney attack?

1.) BFL is probably not keeping the thousands of bitcoins being sent their way from their BitForce SC pre-sales orders. The was a burst of those orders placed when they launched the order form.
2.) Many Bitcoinica folks whose bitcoins were tied up went ahead and bought more until such time that the payouts started. The payouts started.
3.) The great growth story (SatoshiDICE) is flailing about -- their "under 1%" house edge went to 1.5% for a while, now it is at 3%. There's a huge difference between the two as far as a gambler is concerned, and the trajectory for Bitcoin usage fell back to earth after this latest change.

tl;dr: bitcoin-qt is
Have you tried Blockchain for Android? No need to backup, yet Blockchain doesn't hold your private keys. Works with blockchain-based wagering (e.g., SatoshiDICE). Easy to use.

my problem -I live in Australia and wanted to tranfer $3500 to someone in France urgently this weekend and did no have enought bitcoins in my wallet. i could not find a method to topup my wallet that was quick I have credit cards -- paypal - and can get cash out of a teller and yes I can do a TT -- takes 3 days to clear and $25 cost or use westen union/ moneygram is there a way of doing this with bitcoins ?
Funny that you should ask! I see that CryptoXChange accepts cash deposit (at Westpack) - http://cryptoxchange.com/Funds/AustraliaBankDepositThough you can deposit up to $5K AUD, you wouldn't be able to buy that much in BTCs, at least not in one transaction. The cash deposit fee is normally 0.6% but for amounts over $1K AUD, the fee is waived. - http://cryptoxchange.com/Funds/AustraliaBankDepositIf you couldn't buy everything you needed at once (without overpaying) you can always send a CrytpoXChange coupon/redeemable code and let the recipient buy bitcoins with the funds. There are other cash deposit methods in Australia as well. SpendBitcoins.com and MrBitcoins.com though the fees are higher.

it hard to get bitcoins fast - bitcoins would be a bitmore usefull if you could buy them with credit cards / paypal
There's just no way possible to make it so Bitcoins can be purchased with payment in PayPal -- it is a violation of their terms of service and they actively pursue any violations. Credit card might happen again, some day, but you'll be paying well above market rate due to chargebacks. Some options include: - http://bitmint.weebly.com/buy.htmlWith VirWoX you can buy SLL using credit card, then trade SLL for BTC: - http://www.VirWoX.comPhysical Bitcoin, paid for with credit card: - http://memorydealers.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=bitcoinif you want to tranfer money to someone via bitcoins and it a weekend how do you do bank tranfer take time cash deposites take time(and usably closed on saturday / sunday)
Cash deposits through BitInstant at 7-11/WalMart/CVS/etc. in the U.S. are nearly instant. Using BitcoinSpinner from inside a 7-11, you can have bitcoins five minutes later, before you've even left the store.

Many people mining from mobile, it will be amazing.
One $100 GPU can mine at the level of about 700 high end smartphones. A mobile mining 24/7 would produce about one penny ($0.01) worth of bitcoins per week.

I just noticed that the script that generates the statistics doesn't know that you can send 0.0054321 BTC to an address to set the payout address for your winnings. Good catch!
